This review is for Sephora in JC Penney. It's a small portion of the revamped JC Penney, but they should seriously consider expanding. The women who work at Sephora are knowledgeable and super helpful. I was looking for mascara and they literally gave me 15 options depending on what I was looking for. Not only that, they helped me decide on various other cosmetics by advising me on products that they personally use. I was in awe after my AWFUL experience at my local Ulta store. I will never return to Ulta, I would go out of my way to go to Sephora. Pay attention make-up stores....THIS IS HOW YOU DO IT. read more

Upon entering. You're NOT greeted. Entering through the mall entrance feels very weird. Since the service counter is presumed no longer utilized and mostly just there for decoration since there's never anyone usually at the mall entrance service counter. They had the AC on last time I went but there has been a few times when there was barely any fresh free flowing cool ventilation. Also they no longer have REFILLED sanitizer stations at the door nor wipes for the shopping carts. While browsing the store. The first thing you noticed is the complete disorganization of most of the clothing sections. Some sections are in complete disarray as well as merchandise completely located in incorrect spots. The dress clothing section was almost laughable with mostly irregular shirt colors to suits available. **SEE PICS** The pricing here is VERY CRAZY. Even in Macy's. They don't charge this much for some clothes. At this JCP some shirts were almost near the fifty dollar mark for ONE SHIRT. The pillow section followed closely behind in the pricing with certain basic pillows being insanely expensive. Also the overall presentation of most of the merchandise makes it nowhere near appealing for the price really. The mattress section is almost laughable as well with near two thousand mattresses with stains on them when you really look at them. It's understandable accidents happen by customers. But someone is not going to spend an insane amount of money while looking at a juice or soda stained mattress. The only section which seemed to be fully stocked and active was the Sephora part of the store. I can't really comment on the employees since it would seem the only employees are at the registers and the customer service counter mainly. There's virtually no employees on the sales floor besides the Sephora & jewelry sections. The dressing rooms are almost autonomous since there were also no employees near the dressing room areas either. The overall noise level was normal for a retail store. It was almost too quiet in the store however at certain times. The general crowd is mainly adults. Some kids. Everyone seemed mature and disciplined. Overall this location is a DUMP. Management needs to be fired. I can't say how many times I've been inside this store and always seen customers looking for employees only to never succeed. That with the complete lack of disorganization and insane pricing makes this store a complete failure. read more

There's a reason the stocks are penny category. I don't like to be cruel, but no employees, products desired, or anything of relevance. It's been time since I've been here. If I was a betting man, this and other locations will be following Sears. A shame one of the oldest, but when you don't evolve, what can you expect? The Saint John's clothes are from the 90's I guess. They have some decent pajamas. That's probably about as high of a mark, that I'll give them they look sharp. A lot of empty shelf space here, and I won't be returning. Even for nostalgia purposes, this one doesn't cut the mustard. read more

Horrible. I got a formal dress here for a trip to Florida. First it took forever to find the single fitting room that was open and looked like a tornado had come to try on dresses. Then it took forever to find a register to pay. After nearly 45 mins I pay and I leave. I get to Miami a couple weeks later to discover they sold me a damaged dress. Ripped at the seam NOTICEABLY and I am now going to have to scramble to find another outfit. Beware. Not even sure how they haven't closed yet honestly. read more

Horrible experience. Got a ring, bought a care plan, and they sent it to get it resized. They said it'd at most take 3 weeks and I was really counting on getting it back before Christmas, but here we are, a couple days past the ready date and no ring. I kept calling to check the status of the ring and that in itself was a horrible experience. The first time I tried to contact the store I had to call 3 times to get through, and finally the person that picked up took my name and number and told me they'd look into it. Well they never called back. I called the next day, same thing. The day after that nobody picked up the phone at the jewelry department, but I got through to their main line and they told me to hold, then after 15 minutes I heard them pick up the phone and hang up. Today I got through to the jewelry department, same thing as always, they'd look into it, but I asked the lady if she could just look up the order number and found out that it wasn't even sent out until 10 days ago and she said it'd be 3 weeks from that date. Needless to say, never relying on this store ever again. Thanks for ruining Christmas. read more

No idea how this store survives - it was like they didn't want us shopping there at all. No one was available to ask questions, fitting rooms were complete chaos, and check outs were all closed - in spite of the actual sign that says "check out here". When asked, the woman working literally right next to them said we had to go to the back of the store and "find someone else" and then just completely ignored us. What was originally going to be a multiple suits and outfit purchase turned into just leaving without buying anything since they so obviously did not want the sale. We visited the store yesterday and had the displeasure of being falsely accused of theft by an apparent employee of the store, which for some odd reason could not be found after the fact. Her way of handling things was very unprofessional and unwarranted, even when she checked our receipts and confirmed we had not done any wrong. The girl had no name on the shirt or anything and she was not dressed for work so I don't know if she lied about working for JCPenney. After the girl made me embarrassed because there were people outside and she said it out loud, I went to talked with the manager and he told me that he didn't know who she was but he was sorry, That he has a guy for the security not a girl. I was going to leave but I was angry so I tried to find the girl but I didn't find her. This cannot go unpunished. I hope the store manager, are able to locate the said employee because I didn't buy it when he told me that he didn't know who she was (you are the manager, you are supposed to know your crew ) with the way he dismissed me and told me not to roam around the store. Maybe they know her and hide her at the back store. I have my receipt as proof I paid for my item, this is not how a customer should be treated. If someday someone goes through that (crazy employee) and you did nothing wrong then go talk to manager first. read more

This is actually a review for the online J C Penney Outlet. I never would have thought to go to this site, but I was looking for a very specific piece of furniture and the Internet sent me here. Their online ordering system was way too clunky. When the item arrived, it looked "like sumo wrestlers were playing soccer with it." A 125 lb box was open on both sides, and barely holding together along the middle. Crushed Styrofoam bits, and some of the pieces of the furniture littered my lawn. I managed to get the item inside, only by pulling it in piece by piece, as the box did nothing to hold them together. Many of the pieces were damaged and all of them tossed more crushed Styrofoam everywhere. I was wearing little white dots from head to toe. The damage was substantial enough that I should have returned the item. But I simply could not heart the idea of having to deal with this mess again, and I couldn't begin to conceptualize how to get the pieces back in the "box" flopped over limply on my floor. Outcome: We have a slightly tilted piece of furniture that we managed to piece together using imagination and wood glue. Several of the pieces are cracked, dented, or otherwise a injured, but you can't tell unless you closely inspect it. At least, I hope this is the case. There are still Styrofoam bits everywhere, including all over my front yard. UPDATE: I filled out an online comment form for J C Penney, and got an automated reply outlining how to return an item. I responded to that e-mail, and I actually got a response written by a human being. They said that UPS delivered the item, but that they would give me a credit of 25% of the item's price because of my bad experience. I appreciated that, especially since I never asked for financial compensation. I'm giving them an additional star and rescinding my statement that I'll never shop there again. I might shop there again, but with trepidation. read more

I've never been a JC Penney kinda gal but NOW I AM! I went here today to find a camisole to match my "Easter" suit and they've remodeled EVERYTHING! Not only is the physical store itself new and improved but so is the merchandise AND the customer service! I hate to give a fashion secret away but their "stuff" is super fly with EXCELLENT price tags. Shout out to Ms. Val and the other lady who helped me find exactly what I was looking for. This store NEVER answer their phones, I don't care what department you call. Then if you let the phone ring it hangs up on you.... I called the corporate customer service department and they had no answer nor could they help me with getting the store to pick up the phone. I ask them about my ship to store order that should have been there today and was told that it should be to the store by the 15th & this was not what I was told..This store is NEVER that busy and now I see why. Average store, decent prices, and they offer a Sephora. I do find that this location is like a maze and I avoid going like the plague due to fear or getting lost in there. Almost need them to hand me a map at the entrance. You'd think a venture scout would have a great sense of direction (and I totally do) but it's all out the window at JCPenny Potomac Mills. read more

I used to shop at this store often. Near the house, on the way home from work. Had not been there in a while due to the reduced hours that the store was open. Went today, found items in the sales rack that were not marked down, have learned to ask for a price check. No one at the cash register, three people waiting in line. The Cashier is also expected to help customers on the floor now. Went to the second location of registers- three closed signs in front, one "open" but no cashier. Asked a sales person if anyone was working the cash register, was told to go back to the one I walked away from. Told her "that's Okay", placed the items on the counter, left the store. I will not be back. Their service is now below EJ Korvette's. Remember them? In 40 years people will be asking "Remember JC Penney?" and will be giving the same answer. No one wants to beg a store to take their money. Korvette's didn't get it, Woodies didn't get it, Garfinckels didn't get it- JC Penney's doesn't get it. JC Penney stock closed at $0.17 today. It is a "Penny Stock". Problem with "Penney Stock"- they have a store full of merchandise because no one will take your money to buy it. read more

The reason why I'm giving them three stars is because i litterally walked about for ten minutes to find a register was actually had a cashier. The lady at sephora helped me out with all my questions and gave me some samples of products I wasn't to sure about. She was very knowledgable about the products and made me feel very comfortable. JC Penney has changed a lot in the last 2 years. Things seem to have gone in the wrong direction with this well known store. They used to carry a variety of clothing and the stores attracted plenty of customers. Their deals and the ability to use coupons frequently was always something that made me want to spend money there. Now both the selection of their clothing and the prices aren't as good as they used to be. This store is in the Potomac Mills Mall, which is handy, but I would recommend to not go there during holidays. You'll spend a long time looking for a parking space, despite the parking lot being pretty big. Also, the associates at this store seem to be willing to help, which I appreciate. read more

This is for the Sephora in JCPenney. This has got to be the messiest Sephora I have ever been in. I love Sephora... whenever I walk into any Sephora, I love the feeling of sophistication and quality, as well as the selection and all the styles. Sephora in Potomac Mills.... all I saw was a mess. Nail polishes strewn everywhere, not to mention barely stocked. It was horrible! And then when I went to the register to purchase the several marked down nail polishes I chose (there was a container full of of Nails Inc. polishes marked $2 and a container full of Sephora polishes marked $1), the total I was charge was nearly twice what I expected to pay. I asked the associate why it was so much, and when she looked at what everything rang up as, the prices did not match what they were marked as on the containers. Then, she went around taking all the $1 and $2 stickers off of the nail polish displays. WHAT A MESS! I'll stick with Pentagon City. read more
