The owner however was very vocal about her opinions on immigration and politics and made me very uncomfortable. I decided to talk to her about it instead of just leaving a review because I wanted there to be a chance of understanding. But she got incredibly defensive and dismissive, saying my youth is the reason I feel that way (I'm forty) and apologizing for "me being offended" instead of for saying offensive things. By the time I left, she was literally yelling, pointing, and saying I'm the judgmental one. If you agree with the statement that "ICE needs to clear out Newburgh" then you will have no issues at this salon and you should go there. They did an incredible job on my hair. If you hear that and feel like you are not a welcome community and not in a safe place, then find somewhere else to go.

I feel that since I have to suffer through at least six months of waiting for this tragicness to…read moregrow out - I should share some of the horrifying embarrassing moments as I endure them. At work the other day and a Contractor walks in, takes one look at me and says what the hell did you do to your hair? Without hesitation I looked at him and said 'how do you know this is not what I wanted?' He looks me dead in the eye and says 'there is no way in hell that is what you would ever want' . At a meeting generating ideas to drive programs. I said well if we meet the goal- could shave my head - coworker responds 'you're almost there' another responds 'could only help' Wore my hair down for a couple mins in a back office out of public sight. (Wearing bobby pins and pulling back to hide my chop job is painful) a coworker walks in looks at me and asks if maybe it would help if I cut the tail off because it almost looks like a mullet. Came home from my appointment with Debbie. My son looks at me and says 'wow they really did a number on your hair. You actually paid someone for that?' Went to see Debbie based off a coworkers hair. It's simple, clean and her color is nice so I decided to give her a try. Since this was my first visit with Debbie I was very clear - I do not do brown because it is mousy and unflattering on me. I do not do ash because it ALWAYS turns and I was ok with losing length in the back as needed but I do not do Bob's and short layers up front. We have all had not so great hair cuts and colors. Then we have had the BAD haircuts. I have had 2 BAD hair cuts in my life. This being the second. It was all I could do not to cry right there in the chair. I walked out of there with layers up top that give me a mushroom pouf on top of my head. When I straighten it I have a late 70's early 80's horrifying feathery elongated bowl cut. The only thing missing is the tragic straight-line -cut-way-too-short bangs. And too add insult to injury my hair is an awful mousy brown with gray tips. I showed her a pic of the color and style I always get. The only difference is I asked for my roots to be left darker. I wouldn't be so disturbed if I didn't know that what I want is something I get done religiously. It is beyond me how this went so tragically wrong. Maybe I should have gone to Sharon. She has great reviews- needless to say I will not be returning.

I looked online to see who would take me the same day or at least the next day and I landed at the "Creative Touch Salon." Maureen is very professional hairstylist. She is patient and takes her time to understand your needs and the hairstyle you like. I have had several bad experiences with braids or extensions where the braids were too tight so I took them out the same night, the next day or within 3 days. I went to a different stylist prior to Maureen and although the ladies were very nice, the box braids were huge, not what I wanted and my head hurt so bad I had migraines and sores in my scalp that began to puss. I didn't last 4 days with them and took them out. I have had similar experiences with extensions too tight or they irritated my scalp, where my scalp was tender. Maureen took her time and she allowed me to express my concerns and questions. She explained the hair I needed to buy, and her technique for styling the hair. I didn't want to be a nag, but in my nervousness I asked a thousand questions and I had contacted her a few times about the style. However, she answered all my questions in stride without hesitation. Since I have been going, she always answers politely without getting upset with me. She is awesome. I love my hair and it is going on 4 weeks. I have washed and conditioned my hair, and it still looks wonderful. My hair is growing quickly so I will have to get this redone soon. I am so pleased. I have no sores, no irritation on my scalp, no dandruff, no migraines, I can easily wash my hair and scalp and I am so delighted I took a chance and went to this stylist. I also made a new friend. Maureen is absolutely wonderful.
