We had a very negative experience yesterday at the JCPenney salon. It wasn't the salon itself... But the provider Adrien/AJ. I hesitate in writing a "negative review" because.... it is not my desire to hurt anybody. But I think that our experience needs to be shared. I dropped my 21-year-old off to have her haircut. She has longer hair and was looking for a simple cut- no layering... just a clean up. She had specific pictures in mind that her hair could potentially do . When I came back near the end of the appointment, ... The first thing I saw was that her bangs were cut much higher than she had told me she wanted. I asked her about that while AJ/Adrian was still working---- I said: "wow your bangs are short-- you went a lot higher than I thought you would go". I could see the concerned look in her face-- So I zipped it from there. Not only were they shorter, but they were very blocky with absolutely no blending done . They just had a blocky chunky- flip- forward movement. The back was not anything close to looking finished either. I asked him about the point that her hair came to-which was off-center. She was trying to be positive and said, "that's what I asked for"----- but I could see it was a jagged offset point. It looked like a craggy shoreline. There were also stray long hairs here and there in the front angles. In addition to not blending the bangs into the corner/temple-line of her hair--- He cut the bang wedge very deep -- instead of the wispy Front bang she wanted. So it just went from a chunky bang- to long front temple corner pieces --- not graduating at all. It really looked bad and blocky and totally unblended. This haircut cost us $60. I went ahead and tipped the $10- I should not have tipped him... but it was habit. And I hadn't really looked at her hair yet to see just how bad it was. We did that when we got home. It was really heartbreaking. In the salon, I didn't have the heart to critically look at it because she was already upset... But trying to hide it. Two hours later we found another Stylist who was able to blend and thin the bangs into something that made my daughter very happy. It looked so much better!! In addition to the bad haircut we got by Adrian/AJ..., I would say the negative energy that came from him towards both my daughter and myself when I showed up to pay... was palpable. When we left the salon- I asked her if his energy had been so negative during the whole appointment. She said, "yes -- it felt very tense". The poor quality of cut felt 'spiteful' to her. Not sure what is going on in his life right now, but I would avoid him for the time being. On a side-note ----, the savior-stylist's name was Jasmine Tamayo at "Jasmine Loren Salon And Blowdry Bar" -- She was so empathetic, and saw us immediately. She was ready to put the apron on my daughter to 'fix it" ... But immediately read her body language that she was not ready to trust her because of what had just been done to her hair. So she put down the apron and just chatted with her. Jasmine gave us advice about how to move forward and what could be done in the immediate. She won my daughter over and gained her trust. Not only did she fix it, but I would say it's a style that my daughter might lean towards-- with a longer bang. Her blending skills were off the charts. On top of this, she only charged us $10 to do a bang cut. Of course I tipped her more than she charged. If you want a great haircut... Go see Jasmine Tamayo at Jasmine Loren Salon And Blowdry Bar. Penny's gets 4 stars for being the only big-box retailer that reliably carries "slim fit" menswear. We drove out here on a wish and a prayer 3 hours before a wedding in Monterey and found the perfect navy slim-fit jacket on 50% Doorbuster clearance for $70 (suck it, $300 crappy Men's Wearhouse jacket!) Lots of selection, and the menswear is of surprisingly durable quality (not so for womenswear). This store will continue to be our go-to for dressy events. Thanks for being a lifesaver! read more

Your salesperson, Debbie is a shining example of what customer service should be. This Five Star rating is for her. She is your saleswoman, affiliated with Women's Wear. However, I give your check-out process -5 Stars. I had a wonderful shopping experience with Debbie and she helped me tremendously! I truly adored the items that she hand selected for me. Yet I must mention the negative part of my visit to your store, the Check-out process; After waiting in line for several minutes, the cashier walked away without acknowledging anyone in line. I went to another register and saw one cashier and a very long line. I decided to leave my desired items behind. *Please make your checkout process more efficient and less time consuming. This is an edited version of my original review, which was removed because it someone at Yelp decided it promoted "bigotry." Well, we can't have that, now can we? I believe the "problem" with the original review is that I said negative things about a designated minority. No matter that they were true; we're not allowed to say anything bad about certain groups, so in my new, "bigotry"-free review, I refrain from mentioning any specific group. Here we go again! Simply awful. The quality of the merchandise is--well, you get what you pay for, and Penny's is cheap. Too bad; once upon a time, their stuff was inexpensive yet of reasonable quality. What makes this store so bad, though, is not the merchandise: it's the clientele. The people who make up the bulk of the shoppers here are the sloppiest I've ever seen. I say that because because someone--and I don't think it's the clerks--is leaving garments strewn about the floor. When I was growing up, I never saw messy department stores. Now, that's all I see at this mall. There are also children running around, playing (seemingly) unsupervised, even yelling in the store. It is not a pleasant shopping experience. Save yourself disappointment and frustration and shop elsewhere. read more

My mother and I were passing through Salinas last night and visited the JCP Sephora at Northridge. She had never visited a Sephora and I had never visited the Salinas location. We should have kept driving....! We hung around for at least an hour, "browsing" since the 2 employees were busying themselves with ONE customer each; one girl (an African-American woman with enormous penciled in eyebrows) kept giving us the brush off and was putting makeup on a customer and couldnt be bothered to just POINT to certain areas of the store to help us out. She came around alone when we first arrived to ask if we needed help, yet once we said we did she said she was helping a customer...and we never saw her again. I feel very much insulted and Sephora lost a potential customer in my mother. She was open to try many Sephora products and will likely not bother again. Sephora is my favorite store, but the Salinas location is just trash. Skip this one if you can. read more

The people working at the Sephora in JCPenney's really need to dial it back. I am a lot more inclined to spend if a sales associate asks if I need help *once* and then leaves me the hell alone. I've shopped here multiple times and every time the two sales associates (always the same two women) hound me with anecdotes about their favorite products, are astonished that I haven't tried those products, talk and talk and talk about their other favorite products and products I should try and would I like to try this, no? How about this? I'll just grab you the tester! Argh. I have never had this happen at another Sephora, so it doesn't seem like it's corporate policy, rather policy for the individual store (or perhaps policy for the Sephora's in JCPenney's?). Purchased some pants on clearance months ago that security tag was left on. I walked in with pants cashier seen me stated sorry no receipt can't remove tag. I asked for manager (Sara) very rude I asked well how much are these right now price was higher than marked . I had a very good experience today at this store. Everyone I encountered was helpful & knew what they were talking about & able to assist with what we needed in men's wear. When we went to children's wear for newborn infant clothes, we were able to find some great deals. I had to deduct a star because sale items were mixed with regular prices items, it was difficult to know what sales went with 40% off or $50% of on buy 1 regular price. It was confusing & there was no one to assist us to answer questions, but when we went to checkout, Guadalupe and Alma were great in customer service, friendly & very helpful when the register was acting crazy not putting correct prices, but they solved the problem quickly. So that's why I did not deduct another star. Customer Service is very important to us. I have no problem coming back to this location to shop. read more

With the new design, it is ridiculous that you have to wait in line with everyone else trying to buy their products. The point of online buying and picking up at the store is so that you can go in and out. I shouldn't have to wait half an hour in the checkout line, then a other 15 minutes trying to get my items. 5 STARS IS FOR NANCY MEDINA IN WINDOWS!!!! We came here on an errand for the church to order some window coverings, through the whole process she gave us several recommendations, pros and cons of certain window coverings and at the end we found the PERFECT combination. Because of her knowledge and attentiveness we were also able to find some new window coverings for our house! They go so well with the rooms chosen, they definitely feel more homey. Im glad to have been given the pleasure to deal with Nancy, she is amazing!!!!! THE STORE ITSELF IS A 2: hate the layout... always get lost... don't know employees are (no uniforms). I went to jc penny was very excited to see they sold applications my LG stove was just what I was looking for so I bought it, less than a year later it stopped working. this happened at the end of January, jc penny dose not back there products, so as far as jc penny is not there concerne good Luck getting it fixed , I have been dealing with LG since January they send someone that didn't know what to do with it just a guess he changed the motherboard still didn't work they sent someone else they changed the intender. It still doesn't work that was in march 25 still I have no stove how much longer should I have to wait till I get a response on fixing my stove. Here it is April 16 still no response. Jcpenney in the north ridge mall is a terrible place to shop. They don't have enough registers open on weekends and won't ring up clothing in the jewelry department even though there are 6 people standing around doing nothing. The customers service is terrible also. Can never find anyone to help you on the floor and when you do finally find someone, they're new and can't help anyway. Northridge mall sucks, it has gone to shit. Don't shop there. They're goods have gone down in quality also. The items you look for in store they never have stocked. Always empty! read more

I went into the new JC Pennys the other day and was shocked at how messy things were. Lots of clothes on the floor in the aisles, clothing displays unfolded and good luck finding someone to help you with questions and if you do find someone they are like deers in the headlights. The sephora at jcpenney is awesome! Small but normally has everything I need or the ladies order for me over phone so I get free shipment. The customer service is really good too! Even though their busy as heck most days they are good at taking multiple clients. Kinda do agree with the post above though, clients here are messy or their kids are:( I couldn't believe the mess this little boy made with the lipsticks! First, it was impossible to find an employee for help until I finally interrupted a cashers and asked. Then I got directions which were impossible, something like "Over there." So I left. It was as if they didn't want my business and I was in the way. If I can't find what I need, then I can't buy that item. Time to go elsewhere... JCP Portrait Studio Not only were the associates rude, but the so-called "photographer" took terrible pictures and made my nephews cry! She was awful with kids and it was clear that she did not put in any effort to try and get some smiles. I was beyond disappointed and they did nothing about the fact that the pictures taken were terrible! She has black hair and has her hair up in a bun most of the times I go. They are always very low in stock of their products. Started my day off with a purpose to buy some new shoes and clothes before I had to go to work. They opened late. Found half of what I was looking for in the shoe department with a problem only one shoe. Looked all over for the matching shoe but no luck. Searched for somebody in the shoe department to help but they must be somewhere with the missing shoe. Finally found help only to find out he gave me the wrong size. Told me I should order it online. Since I felt I was aging in this store with no resolve, I decided to leave before I needed a wheelchair. read more

I thought the battery of on old watch was going dead. Even though I was only trying to fix a watch & not buy a new one, Jasmine in the watch / jewelry department was extremely helpful in letting me use the tools to open the watch to replace the battery. They had a battery for my watch, which I was about to purchase but they were smart enough to bust out a tool to test the quality of the existing battery which turns out, it was fine so I didn't need to buy a new one. The customer service I got from Jasmine was outstanding! read more

Its a 'walkthrough' store, which means its a major point of egress/exit at the mall so there is a lot of traffic. The selection is decent, but the dressing rooms can be sort of gross at times. Sometimes it is hot on the weekends, and there is a long line at the checkout counter. Its got a good selection of clothing, but I hate that I can't always find my sizes as they appear to have sold out of a lot of the larger sizes. read more
