Have shopped at Penney's for years and years and have shopped at this store for over a decade now. It's extremely well stocked and all departments have staff available, although you sometimes have to ask for someone. We visited the jewelry department today because we wanted to get earrings. When we entered the store, we both were handed a secret coupon, which upon opening showed an additional 30% off what we might purchase. This department store is really only one of the few that still have staff overseeing the cases and they have not only a large selection of costume jewelry, they also have a great selection of fine jewelry as well. Wife found a pair of silver hoops and I was successful in finding some 14K hoops. Both were part of their sale currently going on so 50% right off the bat and then with each of our 30% coupons, it brought the costs down even further. We ended up saving over $500 which is appreciated in today's economy. We were helped by Sam and another associate who actually fixed one of the hoops I wanted to purchase...the clasp was closed and needed to be opened a tad and she fixed it perfectly! Sam was great with her friendly manner and allowed us to look at so many pairs and once she understood what we were looking for, she also offered ideas as well. Went in for a JCPenney portrait session and had a fussy newborn baby Lauren went above and beyond to make sure that we grabbed some beautiful photos of the new baby and we ended up getting a metal print with our bundle package and we absolutely love it. The Solon was clean, easy to find and get to, and the staff was nice and friendly. Booking an appointment was easy and someone calls to remind you about your appointment the day before, which has been super helpful! Veronica has been cutting and coloring my hair for the last year and she always does a great job! When I ask for her opinion/advice, whether she thinks a particular style would look good on me, if I should start layers here or there, best way to grow my straight across bangs if I'm planning on switching my them to curtain bangs down the line, she always gives me her honest opinion and offers other options if one would be better suited for me. I hadn't been to JCPENNY in years but stopped here after visiting a pal who lives in the area, for a Candle. Shout out to Roshini for having fun while checking me out on my Clearance Christmas stocking and Clearance candle. Apparently. my statements were funny to her because she was cracking up at me when I mentioned that all of the Security in the store made me crack up at how discrete they "weren't"!!! Lmao I guess if I were a theft, that I'd come into the store with a bigger purse and lose fitting clothing but instead, I had on tight jeans due to weight gain, a cross over small shoulder purse due to the Holidays(not trying to be robbed for what I don't have) and a ski vest since I was cold.... unless, I could hide clothes in my high heel boots, I'm not sure why the fella followed me around. DUDEEEE!!! ‍ Moving on... I love that when there's items on sale at JC, that it's even cheaper when you go to check out because of all of the Sales going on. A win!!! This is the best time to check out the Clearance sections in stores, for just not only, Christmas items but, for all items related in Christmas colors. There's plenty of onsite parking and it's easy to locate as it's just off off the highway. Give Roshini a raise and a MONTH OFF because her customer service is FANTASTIC!!! Purchased a couple of swimsuits. Selection decent and I could try them on which I really liked. Very few employees around to ask for help, so kinda on your own to find what you need. I have had a credit card with then for over a year. They never have items I need so I never buy much but when I do I use my credit card. After paying off a balance, I received a letter stating that they have decided to closed my credit card!!!!! I have never closed my accounts at for them to made me upset. Once speaking to someone on the phone she told me exactly what the letter said as if I couldn't read and then said if I have changed my mind I can reapply and open another one as if I'm the one that closed my card! Worst customer service and Cashier that I have ever dealt with in any retail establishment. If you are not a friendly person and don't like people then you have no business working in a position in which you encounter multiple people daily. Will never ship at this store again. My last 3 transactions were with the same older cashier, long black hair with a streak of gray in the front. She is absolutely horrible and has no idea how to do her job appropriately!! I placed an online order and had to return a couple of items. I simply wanted to exchange for a different size. She made me go through the hassle of refunding my money to my credit card and then repurchase the items. Later I found out another item didn't fit and had to return it. She improperly refunded me for the wrong item on my first return and then said I had already returned this item and I shouldn't still have it!! She implied I stole it!! WTH - why would I steal something I was returning because it didn't fit?? She and the manager refused to return my money after I spent 30 minutes at the register with them!! If I could do -5 stars I would. This is the worst retail business in Ahwatukee and needs to be closed down. read more

I give this JC Penney store a 3.5. There are some really good things here and some not so good things. I like the Hair Salon. As a matter fact that's why I came here this morning . I had a hair appt. The store has a lot of parking which is nice and they open at 10AM . Perhaps they were extremely busy last night. So busy that they didn't get a chance to put all the clothes and items back where they belong on display. This store with the clothing is very crowded. Everything jammed together and everything's been torn apart. Which drives me crazy . It's really a mess with the clothing. Women's section and children's. Prices are good and they have a lot of great sales and coupons. This Penney's has recently started caring appliances and mattresses. It's not the largest store. It's only one level but ,it's not bad. There are some great people that work there. Very friendly and helpful. One young man particularly is very helpful always and very pleasant. His name is Josh. All of the girl that does my hair in the salon ,Chasidy . The Sephora here is probably one of the worst I've been to. It's always dirty and messy ,as well is they're always out of samples. So I didn't even stop in there today, it's always a disappointment. However, they seem like they're always working on trying to improve it. So it's worth a try if you're over there and you need to stop in. read more

I ordered $160 worth of clothes online, my order came and it wasn't my stuff. I called customer service he was an idiot that did not help me. I got in my car used my time and gas and went to the store. They returned the other person's items that I received and said they could not help me I needed to call customer service because they are completely different. I said aren't you JCPENNEY!?!?! If I was lying how did I have the other person's items?? Obviously you delivered the wrong items. They treated me like I was a thief so I disputed the charge with the credit card company. If I could leave a review with minus stars I would give -5. I came into store to exchange a Christmas gift less than 30 days after Christmas. I first had to search and ask someone to help me. Then I was told that even with a gift receipt that they were going to credit me a fraction of what was paid for item. The salesperson was completely overwhelmed due to inadequate staffing and I had to wait over an hour just to be told they would not give me any credit because the item was past their 60 day policy. I realize retail is dying, but if you want people to come into your store, and maybe buy things, don't have you employees circle potential customers as they're deciding on what to get. Maybe tone down the accusatory tone when asking if they "need help finding anything." Pro-tip - also don't tell your staff to inspect the fitting room you were the only occupant of to "check just in case" within earshot of said potential customer. I like JCPenney. I find great bargains here. My family has been shopping at JCPenney for over four decades now, so I consider myself a loyal customer. I even carry a JCPenney credit card... but my last experience here has left me angry. As a JCPenney credit card member, I have been assured by cashiers and language at their website that I was automatically enrolled in the JCPenney rewards program. The big perk here is that for every $100 you spend (within the same month), you get a $10 coupon. Anyone who hates spending too much money on clothes should like that, right? I now know (after much frustration) that I am required to create a separate JCPenney Rewards account (which means ANOTHER login ID and password) and then link it to my existing JCPenney credit card. This explains why, when I dragged my roommate to a 25% off sale, he could not apply his purchase to my Rewards points. The cashier was not helpful in this matter, because she could not look up my Rewards account with my e-mail address. FYI: It's jcprewards.com where you need to set up your rewards profile. Between the two of us, we spent over $100, but because of JCPenney's inept bureaucracy, I was denied my $10 reward. If I have to do this much research just to figure out what JCPenney's staff should have known anyway, I am less likely to shop at their stores. By the way, this is Store #2846. You may need to know that if you are missing Rewards points and need to manually enter them through your Rewards profile. They ask for method of payment, store number, transaction number, date and subtotal. Oh, and they reset your monthly points to zero at the beginning of every calendar month, so this is good information to know if you're shopping at the end of the month. Lots of fine print, lots of maddening details, all in an attempt to deter you from saving your hard-earned money. For a company that has faced the abyss before, they could benefit from retooling their policies to make it a breeze to take advantage of all of their incentives. Maybe a dedicated salesperson with an iPad who could check with you, while you're waiting in line, that your Rewards profile is complete and operational. Otherwise, train your cashiers to know the nuances of your cryptic system. The fact that these matters have not been addressed is a pretty clear-cut example of corporate laziness. Otherwise, I really like this store. It's clean and bright and well-organized. But I had to dock them two stars because the parent corporation made my shopping experience maddening. read more

Trying to find a baby suit for a wedding isn't the easiest task... especially if you don't want to spend a grip for an outfit that will probably only be worn by your baby one time. After checking out the used kid's clothing store next door, I decided to check-out JC Penny's. They had a great selection of reasonably priced kid's suits but, they didn't carry small enough sizes for my 5 month old. Oh well. I did end up finding a cute outfit for the reception and dinner on their clearance racks... at only $5 an item. :) The sales staff was friendly when you found one but it was kinda hard to find one... Oh yeah, I ended up having to nurse my lil guy in the photography area and while the lady that worked there was nice, she kept trying to sell us a portrait package even though we told her we had our own SLR and several friends who do photography! lol She was a great salesperson but I was glad when baby was done eating! My dad always took us school shopping at J.C. Penney when my brother and I were kids and always found great deals, so I've continued this trend in my own life. I love shopping here because I find great deals and some nice clothes at decent, affordable prices. My friend took me shopping yesterday and we got me 3 new outfits and a nice black thin belt...all from the clearance racks! I tried everything on, found what fits and what doesn't, and we went on our way. The cashier was very friendly and helpful and even filled us in on the fact that whatever it says on the price tag on an item is usually different from what the price REALLY is. This store always has great sales and I like that! I like this store so much better than the one at Arizona Mills also. Their store has a terrible selection when it comes to clothes in my size and the store to me always looks dirty. The Ray store, which I where I shop the most always looks clean and tidy. One drawback is this store only carries toys at Christmas time, as we found out yesterday when my friend asked if they have a toy selection (it was her first time in this location). read more

Portrait Studio is AWFUL Went and had some family pictures taken, don't waste your time. There was no attention to taking good pictures, they just pushed everyone together and snapped a bunch of pictures, hoping to get at least one good one. If there wasn't any good ones, we had to pick from the least awful one. You get what you pay for, especially if they know you have a groupon or lvingsocial deal. Find a professional if you want pictures you would want to hang on your walls, otherwise, call up a friend and have them take pictures with their smart phone, you'll get the same results. read more

Black Saturday, 2019, 4-5pm. I braved shopping and was in a lot of pain as I'm awaiting surgery on a fractured hip. When I asked about a shopping cart I was told by a portly woman with dark hair whom I think may have been a manager that I needed to stand and wait until someone checked out so I could get theirs. NOT. I can neither stand still for more than a couple moments or hold any weight at all in my hands or its excruciating. She then just walked off, and wasn't a cashier. I laid what I was going to purchase on the counter, said "Nope." and walked out. I'm told its pretty obvious by looking at me how much pain I'm in. Even if I wasn't, it was still pretty rude. Customer service is dead, as my Penny's account will be also!! They were losing my business prior to this as most of their clothes are that cheap microfiber material which is very hot, especially in Arizona. Ive found that if the TMP location doesnt have something in my size, this one will. Its hidden just north of the exit for Ray/ I 10 south. Ive never had a problem w/ customer service here and, unlike the one at TMP, I like that they have a traditional register set up. I love the Worthington line for work. THIS REVIEW IS FOR THE SEPHORA IN JCPENNEY!!!! I have been to many Sephoras but NEVER have I been so impressed with a location and their staff before. I was just coming in to pick up my birthday gift and then me with zero makeup on in a Sephora noticed my skin was getting red and I had other places to go so im looking in the mirror like how can I fix this and a gentleman named Ezekeil came up to me asking me if I'd like a colormatch for anything. THIS GUY sat me down, grabbed cleansers, moisturizers, brushes foundations and explained everything to me. He was just so naturally friendly. HE WAS DOING ALL THIS AND STILL GREETING PEOPLE WHEN THEY WALK IN!!! I had no pressure to buy anything at all. Excellent customer service. Ezekeil you did amazing! Little kindness goes a long way and I am very grateful!!! I have very pale skin and it's hard to have someone be patient enough with me. The last time I went in a Sephora elsewhere I was told I was too white for the lightest shade and they didn't offer a different brand to me. P.S. the avocado pin was super cute. This place is a dump. I went there to buy several pairs of dress pants and shirts. It looked like nobody had worked there for days. There was clothing, hangars and trash everywhere. The dressing rooms were filled with piles of tried on shirts and pants. The inventory selection was dismal. Also, there was not an employee in sight for help. I wound up not even making a purchase, instead I went home and bought everything from jcpenny.com and had a nice online shopping experience. read more

We set up an appointment for 445 for new born photos. My husband called a few days before, and even asked on the original phone call what the latest appointment could be. Today when we showed up at 450 (full disclosure we were late) they had already closed down the studio. The employee who was supposed to take our picture saw us and came back. She explained they closed at 5, and all appointments are only 15 minutes long. Then she back tracked and said new borns always get an hour. But we set up a new born appointment, they left before closing, and clearly had no intention of keeping our appointment. New born photos are time sensitive, this was really frustrating. read more

However, when I stopped by here to return some items I received as a Christmas gift, I was expecting to see the same drab store I remembered. My daughter ,my son and I went shopping here and we were in the bra/panty section looking around and chatting and laughing, well my son notices the lady working that department watching us and I laugh it off like let her do her job maybe she is looking at is bc we are laughing and we move in to another rack and low and behold her she comes , checking the previous rack we just left like we stole something. So I cross the isel to look at the clearance racks and she moves right over by us again. She never asked if we needed help or anything just watched us. So another lady comes over (she was an older white lady)and she asks her do you need help finding anything? The lady does need help. So the employee says just a minute and goes in the back and has another employee come out to watch us!! At this point I'm furious bc she is racially profiling my children and me. I ask you speak with the manager and both ladies disappeared and didn't return until they saw is leaving the section. I will not go back ,it was my 1st and last visit to a jc Penny.
