Was just looking to buy a pair of frames without the prescription because I liked how they looked but they didn't take my specific insurance in terms of the lenses. One lady working there was extremely rude and the others pretty much ignored me and my family. It's like they've never heard of anyone buying frames without a prescription. This location is NOT closed. I was just there about two weeks ago in April 2010. Let me first say, I have no insurance. That means that I seriously shopped around (sadly, spreadsheet type shopping) when it was time to go see the eye doctor. JcPenny was offering the best rebate on my contacts along with a lower lenses cost for glasses - the best price in one stop. I made the appointment to go see Dr. Ami Patel a few days beforehand. (Note that she is only in the office 3-4 times a week.) When I first arrived, the area was busy and I wasn't quite welcomed warmly by the staff, but that quickly changed. Dr. Patel was extremely patient as I detailed everything. At past places, I had felt rushed, but here she took the time to explain why extending my contacts longer (aka b/c I was cheap and running out) was a bad thing to do. She was personable yet professional. Furthermore, she was very easy to get into contact with. I was trying out new contact lenses and she was prompt in following up and addressing all of my concerns. After I was done with the appointment, the staff was very helpful in getting me set up. I even got free shipping to home on my contacts (which is great since I live in the city). My one complaint was that my price estimate for my lenses was about $125 off and that was really frustrating (it was one of the reasons why I picked them). They had a ridiculous sale on frames and lenses so I got new frames and saved over $150. While I found a pair of frames, the selection at this particular store was limited. If they hadn't had a sale, I would have gone elsewhere for my glasses. Overall, it was a great experience. So frustrating to travel 20 miles to the Fox Valley Penneys Optical only to be told the 2 pair for $ 99 offer for glasses is really $244 because there is a $25 charge for each pair additionally for my prescription. No mention of this in their add. Bait and switch...I think so! That place is a ghost town. I will never shop there again. read more

I have tried for two years with two different Ophthalmologists, who both really screwed up my prescriptions. I had the same eye prescriptions since 2014 for both distance/bifocal and computer/bifocal. When I moved to Rogers Park, I visited a Target at Wilson and Broadway, who had an exceptional optometrist that got my prescriptions just right, but he left and the entire staff changed come 2017 and actually were quite rude, so not until April 2021, did I remember I visited JCPenney Optical back in 2008 and had great results. So, I made an appointment and Nancy, the Optical Manager was still there! She is a timeless, flawless beauty with superb patience and meticulous skills. She told me she's been there for 40 years. My goodness! I had an exam with Dr. Alla Pasman, and she listened to my needs to custom write my prescriptions and FINALLY, with Nancy's precise eyeglass picks for the two different glasses I needed, I now have the perfect up to date prescriptions in eyeglasses I've needed for quite a while. I hate to write a bad review about the optical center, but this was kind of ridiculous. I came here to get glasses on a Sunday. The hours were listed as 1p-5p, but when I got there at 2p, the place was closed. I contacted a manager at JcPenney who told me that the optical was separate from the store and they did not have contact information to the whoever runs it. How is that even a thing? Anyway, I left because I wasn't going to wait around to see if someone would kindly show up 2 hours late. This was my first time coming to the optical and I was very disappointed. When I called at 4:30, someone finally arrived but they weren't even apologetic. I would understand if something happened that they had to take care of, but leaving customers without any notice or any information was so rude. Maybe I'll try them again, maybe I should have known better. But if someone is so unprofessional, they can't even show up on time, what can I really expect from my second visit? read more

From the first visit, when my daughter was 6, Dr. Pasman put my daughter at ease, thoroughly checked my daughter's eyes and made the overall experience fun. I have been a patient of Dr. Pasman for at at least 5 years now, and I couldn't be more pleased. I take my children there for their yearly exams, and I am so delighted with her service. Both of my children have a very large prescription, and she is always very compassionate and patient with them, I can tell she is a mom herself. Recently, I had a bad case of pink eye, and Dr. Pasman went out of her way and stayed late to help treat me. She is extremely polite, and great at her job. All of her professional advice has gone a long way, and I am overall super happy that we have such a great eye doctor close by. What a relief! read more
