I came in here with my husband yesterday to see if they had a sale on the jeans he wears. Lucky for us, they did have a sale, and we found two pair in his size. I never really see employees in the store, and nobody ever talks to us. So customer service is severely lacking. I kind of miss them having cash registers around the store. Now it's just at the back of the store, and the line seems stupid/cheap. They have all these cheap crappy "eye level" items lined up along the way to encourage impulse buying. The store is usually pretty clean and decently organized though, so that is a plus. I've never really had a bad experience in here, but nothing fabulous either. Would I return? Because they sell the jeans my husband wears for work, yes. Without that, probably not. It's a mediocre store with nothing memorable about it, and I struggle to find a reason to come in. This store is the worst. I can see by the 2 star overall rating that I am not the only one super disappointed. I went in looking for underwear and was told that the dept was no longer upstairs and directed to where it supposedly is now but after following the directions exactly, I came to the men's department. No underwear there even for men. So I found another associate who directed me to the exact same place. The men's department. I walked down all the aisles around but no underwear anywhere. What a dump. Even the employees don't have a clue. Dine with Penneys. I just cut up the credit card. read more

Wow. I'm traveling and popped into Pennys to pick up a pair of Levi's... Never have I had better service even at Nordstrom or Neiman's. Connie in the dressing room was more than willing to get my sizes and ran over to the reg to help me out with a tag issue and the young woman who checked me out could not have been more pleasant. I love shopping at JCPenney because when their stuff goes on sale it goes cheap. I also seem to end up buying socks here a lot, but again on sale. It's especially good for baby clothes, so it will probably be my go-to for kid clothes for some time. Baby pants for $2? Yes please, and I was surprised to see how many I actually ended up with when I got back home! Service was fine. There weren't a lot of staff around but the folks at the cashier station were helpful in getting my mom's card looked up and making sure to save us as much as possible. I did notice that the socks I bought didn't ring up properly, so we had to go back to the display to confirm and all--they were indeed on sale, so I'm not sure why they didn't ring properly. And I had purchased some prior and although the woman at the register said I needed to bring them back so they could return them and re-ring (impossible, since I'd already thrown them in the wash) the woman at the return desk was able to make a price adjustment for the prior purchase without that hassle. read more

RUDE CUSTOMER SERVICE. It was 6:40 pm when I got to the JC Penny store at the Valley River Center . I knew they closed at 7:00 pm on Sunday, so I hurried to in to shop for luggage. When I got to the "up" escalator, they had turned it off and blocked the way with trash cans. There was no sign posted and no employee in sight so I quickly went upstairs to look at the luggage. When I got to the luggage, an employee looked right at me, used her radio to say in an angry voice that "people were upstairs", then turned and walked away without saying "hello", "do you need any assistance". Nothing. As she walked away, I asked if we were not allowed to be upstairs? ...and why didn't she say "hello" or try to help us? She walked back toward us and let my wife and I know that the store was closing in 15 minutes and walked away. (it was now 6:45 pm) Trying to quickly shop in the luggage department, all of a sudden someone started to making overhead announcements that "the store will be closing in 15 minutes"... in 14 minutes... in 13 minutes... The announcements were so loud that shopping became pointless, so my wife and I left. Before we were downstairs, they shutoff the "down" escalator even though it was well before their closing time of 7:00 pm. My wife and I were both out of the store and in the parking lot at 6:52 pm with plenty of time to run over to Macy's next door where they were kind, greeted us with smiles, and answered our questions. It was a MUCH, MUCH more enjoyable experience than JC Penny's. I would rather pay a higher price at any other store than have to be confronted with trash cans in front of escalators and unfriendly sales staff that just glared at us while at JC Penny's. I will NEVER set foot in the Eugene JC Penny Valley River Center again. read more

Got my hair done the other day at JcPenney Salon in Valley River Mall and sat in a chair for 3 hours. barely anything got done when i asked to go lighter. my hair had caramel highlights that were about an inch to two inches grown out. Once they finished, they didn't style it or anything. so once i got home, i styled it. Come to find out, it was chunky underneath and VERY spotty everywhere. I spent $170 and tipped her, she was good at hiding the spots by not styling it lol. Now i have to go to someone else to try and fix this. more money down the drain. do not recommend. read more

Great experience with Sonja at J.C. Penney Photo! My family and I were perusing and she invited us to come over to the studio to check out their current deals, and offered our girls an on the spot shoot with two free prints. It took all of 10 minutes. She was great with the kids, great with direction, and she let us select our two favorites from the bunch (with an option to purchase more at a discounted rate). While the girls were getting their pictures taken, there were four high school aged people getting their pictures taken in classic white tees and denim a la JC Penney Photo Studio circa 1995. Super cute idea and I could tell their photographer was having fun with it too. Sonja must've been a mind reader because we had been wanting to schedule a family photo session, which we were able to schedule easily at the same time. Thanks, Sonja! read more

If I could give it a "0" I would!! I Just received a (probably expensive) post card in the mail from JC Penney stating that Starting October 2024 a $1.99 fee will be charged to my account each month that they send me a paper billing statement! ( I received the card at the beginning of November). I can avoid the fee if I set up electronic paperless billing!! NO I don't want electronic billing! YES I like paper but why should I have to pay for that service?! Because you now are no longer an "in house" business? Believe me I tried contacting your local store to cancel my card due to your new requirement but it is IMPOSSIBLE to get through to anyone that can help me with that. Even the phone extensions to departments go unanswered. So disappointing. I will be cancelling my card if I can ever find someone to help me with that. I loved this location when I lived in Eugene. Im up north now but visited even the last time I was in town. Dad wanted some basketball shorts and we happened there at the right time to get sales. I checked this time and again.... great timing. So we went... $10 basketball shorts yes!!! Then I found this crazy sale rack... I got a pull over fleece for $3 and a long sleeve light pull over hoodie for $2... what what? This location never seems busy inside but the line is always happening... Store is well maintained and clean. Well stocked overall... the customer service was awesome. Even she was impressed with my sale prowess. Gotta say great finds... I love going here. I don't go here often, but when I do I find random cool stuff. Last time we were here were checking out the bedding. They looked pretty well made, and decently priced. I was not planning on getting anything for myself today, and found the best ugly Christmas sweaters. They were hard to chose which one I wanted. Mickey, Grinch, Spider-Man!... and the one I settled on was a Storm trooper, and my guy Darth Vader! Super excited! Under cover Star Wars geek here! The Darth Vader sweater lights up. I have also found some nice slacks, and ties in the past here for my Son's when they have needed them. They didn't even cost an arm and a leg. Highly recommend for around prom season! We looked at the tux shops, and were treated horribly, and they didn't even have what we wanted, only to find what my Son wanted here....for way cheaper! During the Holiday's I found the best ugliest Christmas sweater's here! I found a Star War's Storm trooper, and a Dart Vador ugly sweater. Of course I picked them up as soon as I saw them! When I got home we decked them out even more with googly eye balls, and a few other things for some parties we went to to be more original. Gotta love Star Wars gear! Bought a pair of leggings online and didn't fit. Thought "no problem, we will go in and exchange for a different size". They had us return them and ordered the appropriate size. The issue? They charged us an additional $11 because we used a coupon originally. So instead of doing an even exchange, we pretty much had to buy a new pair of leggings. Poor customer service almost every time we have gone in. read more

I stopped by JCPenney's tonight in order to buy some knives. However, unfortunately, they only carry those in an online order even though they do have a display model out. If you're going to have on it on display, you should sell it because if I wanted to order it online I would've just done that in the beginning. They also close right at the strike of 9 PM because apparently there are vampires in Eugene. As a consequence of their security measures they locked us inside the store. Fortunately an employee said she could let us out. Unfortunately, she was also easily distracted, and had to stop and help two employees so their jobs first *before* she would let the customers out of the store. Apparently, customers first" refers to something other than customer service. I don't think I will be returning anytime soon. read more

Review for Photo Studio My girlfriend and I recently set up an appointment for Christmas card pictures to be taken. These kinds of things are always a bit of a challenge because she has a special needs 5 year old son. However, we have experience and knew enough to ask for the last appointment on the slowest day so that we could get in and get out. It is supremely important since her son won't sit still very long and it is difficult to distract him. When making the appointment, my girlfriend made it very clear as to why we needed the last appointment on the slowest day as well as the need for a photographer that had at least some experience with special needs children - meaning the photographer has to be quick, decisive, and know how to at least momentarily get the child's attention to get a photo. We were assured there would be 3 photographers on hand (I have no idea why there would be that many), so at least one would have this experience and we could get in and out quickly with some great pictures. So we agreed. We arrived promptly at our appointment time and checked in. We were told that there was another family ahead of us. Uh oh. This is going to be a problem. I get that places can get backed up, but we made special arrangements to ensure we wouldn't run into a wait. It wasn't very long before we had a child on the floor, screaming while trying to get away because he knows full well there is a play area at the mall. It was only going to be a few minutes we were told, so we took him out of the photo area and we went through the same screaming issue in the JC Penny's store. Unfortunately, there isn't a lot we can do for him but try to keep him distracted, which we attempted to do with snacks and my phone. It didn't really work. After 15 minutes of this we brought him back into the photography area to wait and we were able to calm him down for a few minutes. I am not sure where the 2nd and 3rd photographers were, but there was just one that was still with the same family as when we walked in the door. The calming period disappeared and because another screaming session. Finally, a little bit after 6pm - over a half hour after our appointment was to be - we were told we could come in. It wasn't just the 3 of us; we had my girlfriend's young daughter and my 15 year old son with me (that the photographer kept referring to as my daughter for some reason). Here is another huge problem: the photographer had virtually no experience dealing with children, let along special needs children. She hemmed and hawed about how to organize us. She didn't know how to fit 5 people into a frame. She carefully thought about how things she should look, which is fine when dealing with adults, but we have a child who is visibly unhappy and you have to be quick and able to grab his attention. She could do neither. Eventually, my girlfriend took her son outside and we did some other pictures with her daughter and my son. These were lousy. We weren't fitted together in the photos, they show half of our legs instead of stopping at our laps, and none of them came out any good. My girlfriend and her son came back after he was able to calm down and we said have a couple minutes while he is calm to get some pictures. Once again, our photographer took her time to think about how we should pose and fit together. These things have to be decided quickly and decisively and she was incapable of it. By the time we were done and my girlfriend looked over the photos (I saw them later), they were all pretty bad. A couple of the ones where her son is calm and could have been good pictures are terrible because she took it at an angle that his head is partially blocking my face (he was distracted, so all she had to do was tell me to move or move herself over). Some of the pictures have all 5 of us on one side and a bunch of empty space on the other (because she posed my girlfriend's daughter with her legs out to the side and she fit her entire legs into the shot while the rest of us are on the other side of the photo). She ultimately picked the best of the worst pictures. By this time it was an hour and 15 minutes past our initial appointment. Ridiculous considering what we told them needed to happen up front. I wouldn't go here again. They don't know what the hell they are doing. We were very specific with what we needed and if they couldn't provide it, that would have been fine to just say up front. Instead, they lied and made us feel like they could handle the photos, which really aren't that difficult to do - you just have to be as in-and-out as possible, be quick with posing decisions, and have a method of obtaining a child's attention for just a moment to snap the photo. JC Penny's Photo Studio failed on all of these points and I wouldn't recommend nobody waste their time going there, either. Waaaaay too many other good choices for photographers out there to overpay for awful photos from people who have no idea what they are doing. read more

This place is a complete joke, I bought a brand new fridge from them, brought it home and it didn't work. They told me to either bring it back or to come in and buy an extended warranty if I want them to come and fix it. They treated me like garbage and the supervisor was extremely rude and was mocking me. She handed me off to some young kid who ended up being worse. read more

This JCPenney is probably the nicest I've ever seen. They have a large Sephora too with a wonderful staff. But I should mention, my sister and I went to the salon for a quick trim. No shampoo, no wash, no style, just a quick trim. The master stylist tried to charge is $64 for less than 15 minutes of her time. I was absolutely disgusted and will never step foot in there again. And no way we did not pay that ridiculous price. read more

Went to JC Penny's to get a pair of shoes but when I got there, their shoe department was a disaster! None of the shoes were in their spots it was like there was an earthquake and everything fell off the shelves and then some child picked up the boxes and put them wherever. There was no one in the shoe section either like jc penny fired all the shoe department people it was dark and creepy so I took my money and left I don't want to waste my time or money in that place! read more

My sister and I went into Penneys expecting that we would never see a sales person. We were amazed when Gail came up to us and asked us if we needed help!!! We asked questions and she gave answers. She found items for us, she offered opinions, and helped us exchange wrong sizes. My sister and I grew up with clerks who did this but we haven't seen anything like this for years. If you buy appliances through JC Penney DO NOT have them install for you. I waited a week for them to get here and the team who showed up installed my washer but not the dryer!! They said the vent hose wasn't long enough. Mind you they didn't even take it out of the package or even try to install it. When I called about it they said there was "stuff" in the way. I happen to know there wasn't because I CLEARED my bathroom out before they got there. I had everything ready to go for them to make the process as simple and easy as possible and they still couldn't get the job done. JCPenney used to be a nice department store with much to offer. I worked at their flagship store at Northpark Center in Dallas, Texas in the mid 1980's. They had just undergone their big image makeover and it was nice. They dropped hardware and appliances and focused primarily on clothing, furniture, and housewares. They had a fully staffed customer service and catalog order department, a large full service beauty salon, a large, well stocked men's suits department with their own tailor for alterations, impressive departments for fine jewelry, lingerie, bridal, misses, mens, young mens, a big shoe department, departments upstairs for bedding, bath, kitchen, drapery, and a large furniture department. They were staffed with a full fleet of store managers and department managers, warehouse personnel, a full staff of stylists in their beauty salon, and each department was fully staffed with employees to help you and ring you up in that department. All of us had to dress nicely which meant a coat and tie for the gentlemen and dresses or pantsuits for the ladies. Everyone was issued name tags on their first day of training and expected to wear them every day for work. There was a manager who was in charge of doing all of the training before new employees could be released to work the floor. This training was essential for teaching new employees what expectations were for customer service, how to handle certain issues, and learning how to work the cash register. Before anyone could go home, after the store closed, everyone, including managers, had to straighten and organize all of the merchandise to make the floor ready and presentable for the next day. The store always opened on time and closed on time with plenty of warning given to customers over the pa system beginnng a half hour before before closing, then 15 minutes, then 5 minutes, then the announcement that the store is closed. Attention JC Penney shoppers, Our store is now closed. Thank you for shopping JC Penney. Our store will open tomorrow at 10:00 am. If any customers were left in the store, managers and employees alike were well versed on which exits they could take and where to direct people. Nobody was ever forgotten, overlooked, or left locked in the store. Everything was run like a well organized, well oiled machine and it worked. Today, there seems to be very little staff to help anyone. There are only a couple of check out stations where you inevitably have to wait in a line to check out, employees are dressed like customers without name tags, which causes a lot of confusion. Maintaining that higher standard of customer service and merchandise is long gone. I often walk through the JC Penney in the mall near me to go walking in the mall. The floors and carpets look dirty, it doesn't appear anyone straightens the floor each day. Merchandise and empty cups with be out in the middle of the floor for in the same place for over a week because nobody picks them up. The hideous shopping carts they have adopted for use are often left blocking isles literally for weeks before someone finally puts them where they are supposed to be. Instead of having special biannual sales, everything is on sale every day with red sale signs everywhere, indicating a sad desperation to make a sale. I do not find the merchandise they have these days to be of value. There is nothing special or unique. You can get it cheaper somewhere else and most people do. Getting someone to help you is like pulling teeth. When you do find someone, they are not particularly helpful or knowledgeable, and seem to have that- it doesn't matter - attitude. It shows in their dress, their attitude, the unkempt clutter of the merchandise. It isn't like I am really in a JC Penney, but rather a large dollar store. This used to be a great, all American store. Now, I never think about it as a shopping option. Very sad. read more

First and only time I will ever go to JCPenney's to get pictures taken I went last weekend to get my daughter's pictures taken for her first birthday it wasn't a long wait and the staff was sort of friendly but overall it was not a very pleasant experience after the short 20-ish minutes session the lady that took the pictures walked over and started going through templates She spent about 15 to 20 minutes working on specific templates for the photos which we were thrilled about at first until she told us that there was an additional charge for each separate template that she made now this in itself wouldn't be an issue if she would have told us in the beginning but instead wasted our time and lead us to believe that the templates that she just spent all that time making where included in the package that we had selected. Once I finally review the pictures that were sent to my email I noticed that a couple where off center and they also included a couple of pictures that I asked not to keep I'm using this as a learning experience for the future but for now I would recommend spending your money elsewhere not only for better quality but also better service f*** you JCPenney's enjoy spending my hard-earned money don't get scammed by these dime store photographers read more

My mother in-law and I went to JCPenney to find a new pair of shoes for my 93 year old mother in-law, We talked with a sales lady named Bailey she is and amazing employee she pointed out some shoes for us to try so we headed to the shoes and she gave us our space to try on the different shoes so we could feel comfortable to take our time and let my mother in-law look at the different styles and try them on. We picked a pair and Bailey was right there to check us out and answer any questions we had, We bought them and headed out. ( my mother in-law is in a wheel chair) we headed over to the park the she stated her foot was kind of hurting in one spot so I took the shoe off and saw a red spot where theirs a seem in the shoe so back in the store we go. Bailey was right there to help she got a half size bigger and said she could stretch them for us but if she stretches them we can not take them back and we understood, We had them stretched and that made a world of differance and my mother in-law is still tickled pink with her new shoes she absolutely loves them.
