Update: After speaking with the district manager, Martin, I'm even more concerned. While he apologized, I was told that because the associate, Maxine has worked there for a long time, he doubts "she would say that." That response felt dismissive of my experience instead of addressing my concerns. It is evident that there is a dire need for customer satisfaction training. As a woman of color, I encourage other people of color to be aware of this location and to shop with caution. I'm very thankful for the random stranger that brought those hateful remarks to my attention. Today I visited the Polaris location with my two children. While waiting to check out, another customer rudely stepped in front of us in line. Instead of creating a scene, I chose to leave that line and use the children's checkout since I was mainly purchasing clothes for my kids. I appreciated that the next associate that helped us was very kind and attentive. However, while I was actively checking out, another customer that was shopping, approached me in front of the cashier and stated the other associate from the first counter believed I was stealing and that I "must not have wanted to wait and pay" for my items. I was completely shocked and humiliated by this accusation, especially because it was made within earshot of my two young children. There was absolutely no reason for Maxine to make this accusation when there's other counters to check-out at. My family's nice shopping trip turned to an experience filled with hate and unfortunately my young children had to witness this and we'll have to have a serious talk about shopping while black. After completing my purchase of over $500, I spoke briefly with a manager to report what had occurred. I have also contacted corporate because I believe this incident deserves further attention. I sincerely hope this matter is addressed with Maxine so that no other customer or family has to experience the same humiliation. This was an extremely disappointing end to what was supposed to be a pleasant Friday afternoon with my children. read more

Back again on a Saturday night. They are open later than the rest of the mall so it gives extra time to shop. He found quite a few options on clearance. Didn't have too much time for myself sadly, but did get another polo (most of my work shirts are polos it seems). Lots of clearance throughout so budget plenty of time. One sale was so amazing that my coworker was convinced they were closing (spend $100+ and get 60% off, while shopping for homecoming dresses so great timing). Finally, the Penney drops. At the Polaris, that is. Pretty typical Penney location at the Polaris Mall, and it's big and sometimes pricey, but when you come during a sale or find one of those special deals then it's not bad at all. Today I went shopping for a new lightweight jacket, I found this red and gray one that I really liked. Didn't have it in my size so asked if they could check another store or online? Yes! They had it online, and it was cheaper than listed in the store! So I am having them ship it to the store, otherwise they would charge me 9.00 for shipping. JcPenny's may have a bad rap just for their low prices but they deliver the best attire for those low prices. I am proof their attire is just perfect. I was at an event recently for professionals of my field and many people didn't come "dressed to impress." Those who did turned faces like me. They were asking where did you shop for that suit that looks over $100? I was not scared to say where and you should have seen the faces. You do not have to break you wallet or bank account for nice looking attire. Just be smart about where you are shopping for those items. I think about how much each thing costs prior to shopping for all my items on my list. I do a little research online and then go to that store and pick it up. People, just because it's called "JcPenny's" doesn't mean it doesn't deliver the best looking items you need to look great. Do me favor, get out of your comfort zone of spending over $50-$100 at that brand named store and step over to JcPenny and just check a few items. I hate leaving bad reviews..... but I'm still a little annoyed about this store! Maybe it was because I came here straight from having a pleasantly surprising experience at Kohl's, but this kind of thing is why mall anchor stores are becoming more and more unpopular! The store is cluttered and dirty, and I honestly thought most of the items were so ugly. We went to make a Christmas gift return - first there was no one at the register although multiple people were waiting for help. Then when staff did appear there was no apology for the wait (I'm assuming that when there isn't a line the staff is supposed to go tidy areas of the store or help customers, but it was a weekend so there should be someone at each register!). The employee smacked on gum with her mouth open the whole time (HUGE NO NO) and again, didn't thank us for our patience or apologize for the wait (I worked in customer service for years and said "thank you for your patience" a dozen times a day, it's not hard). She ran the return wrong (placed the refund back on the card used to make the purchase, which was not mine because it was a gift) so it added extra time to get a manager to fix it. I know I sound overly cranky, but I have worked in retail and customer service, and the bare minimum is a smile and apology for that kind of thing - neither of which we got. We had to get store credit instead of cash back, but I was so overwhelmed by the messy store that I came home and used my store credit for an online purchase. The salon here has been good to me but I have heard horror stories so enter at your own risk. Horror stories in particular about the waxing but on the same hand, I have heard excellent things about the hair services, etc. They offer reasonable prices for all salon services and they offer salon- only products that aren't readily available at drug or grocery stores. JCPenney jewelry department is a joke. my husband bought an engagement ring there and the whole diamond on the top broke one day while I was cleaning. we had a lifetime warranty on it and they said it wasn't repairable. they promised us through the warranty that we would get a refund for the ring. they refuse to get us a refund. dont buy any jewelry from this company. Every time I've gone here, I haven't had an appointment. Every time I've gone, I've had a different hair stylist and walked out satisfied which is, as most would agree, hard to find. Why 3 stars for such service? The front desk folks are mildly annoying. Either, they don't greet you and go to the back for a long time, or they ask you a thousand times why you're there. Then, there's a lady who does your eyebrows "The old fashioned way" ie. with string, and tells you how she can get rid of your double chin for free...even if you don't have a double chin. Penney's is my never-fail, always can find something store. I will never be above shopping at Penney's, but today was not my day. I've been on the hunt for just a pair of basic black dress pants for work, and after not finding what I was looking for elsewhere I decided to go to Old Faithful. The first issue I had is that the racks of pants were a total mess. Nothing was in any sort of organized order, and there were about six different fits all shoved everywhere together. Also, they were not in size order, so I literally had to look at every single pair of pants for 1) the size I needed and 2) the fit I wanted. I could not find any of the fit I wanted, so I decided to branch out and try a different fit. Grabbed the size I needed and headed to the fitting room - and there was a line like I have never seen. Apparently there is only one fitting room open now, so all of the others are just used for storage I guess. I was so mad already I just put everything back and decided to order online and have it shipped to my house. I am trying really hard to support brick and mortar stores but it's almost like they don't want customers to shop in person anymore. read more

I generally think of this place as a second rate deparment store and rarely visit. A few weeks ago I decided that I would no longer put up with packaged guacamole or hummus, so I was i need of a food processor. I asked around and everyone told me to try penney's since I didn't want to spend to much money. This was excellent advice. I found a small counter top processor in the housewares department and it was only 20 bucks! Unfortunately I couldn't find the item on the shelf. I brought it up to the counter and asked if they had anymore and after the staff had a heated discussion about selling display items, i was told it was all mine for an extra 10% off since it was display. The girl that settled the argument felt really strongly about allowing customers to buy display items so I decided to push my luck and ask for 20% since it was also scratched. She agreed. Awesome. I love when big stores act like small ones and allow you to bargain. I will keep coming here for housewares. read more

I am literally hanging up the phone with this JC Penney agent and rushing to Yelp her/the company/customer service because it was literally THAT GOOD! As you can see from my profile I'm not a real active Yelper. I'm lazy. So for me to be here typing this right now....it's GOOD: I was approved online yesterday for a JC Penney credit card and it offered me a special savings for my first purchase. Long story short which led me to have to call customer service is that I (think) I screwed up when I registered for my rewards number, so I couldn't sign into my account properly and I lost my special new card holder discount code. So two problems I was with. And a side note...I avoid calling customer service at all costs...I always use the chat feature if there is one. I generally hate calling the 1-800 number because (no offense) but the representative either doesn't know diddly squat about what I need or how to help me, and/or he/she is so sickeningly sweet with an obvious script that sounds so not genuine....I just can't take it. I'd rather be leveled with. (You don't have to treat me like a robot customer and act like you care about my issue...just be real)....blah blah blah.....bottom line....I avoid calling and prefer to chat. But today the chat person didn't know didly squat about what I needed (LMAO - that's funny right?) I don't know if she cared about my problem or not but she led me to the 1-888 number that led me to ERIN MARTIN - CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE OF THE CENTURY. After I told her my problem logging in and that I lost my discount code she at first put me on hold for what must've been a while (I was busy computing so I didn't totally notice) but she came back on the phone and TRULY apologized for it taking so long - but it only took the time it did because she was on the other end figuring out exactly how to help me and that's exactly what she proceeded to do. She walked me through everything.....telling me to take my time, she was going to stay on the phone to make sure it all worked in the end......And she was like "tech support"...she described the screen, etc....She went way beyond any service I've ever received for a lost password and lost coupon code. She explained how the rewards system worked, and she basically answered every single one of my questions so that I literally could check off that problem on my list because this girl took care of it! Nice! Then she went on to the coupon code discount and she told me she would need to take my order over the phone so she could manually put in a discount code - - and I was like, OK....so I read her the stuff I wanted....and when we were done she said, very concerned, the stuff you're buying doesn't qualify for this other discount that JCP has going on right now...but she didn't want me to have to pay full price just because I wasn't shopping from the right department...So she asked if she could put me on hold so she could get approval to offer me a personal discount. Meanwhile, the internet in my house is sucking so bad our connection was jarbled at times a lot.....and just when she put me on hold to go get my discount....BLEEP.....my lovely phone dropped the call. I was like SHIT! I don't know how to get her back on the phone. It's not like they have their own private lines....and I was like, damn, now I'm not gonna get my special discount....I started to go online to CHAT with someone and ask them if they could find her but then like music to my ears my phone rang and it was ERIN....who took the initiative to look up my number from when I signed up for the account and she called me back!!!! IMPRESSIVE She proceeded to tell me my discount and then she had to manually enter in the discounted price....and when she was all done, she saved me nearly $50!!! I was so excited at how much I saved, I thought, damn, I only get this discount on my first purchase....I should definitely buy more stuff but I haven't looked at everything.... You'd think the customer service rep, who is expected to do A LOT LESS than this sweet girl was doing for her hourly wage, would just be like, yeah well here's your total..have a nice day.... BUT NOT ERIN This was when yelp.com was being typed into my browser: She said well how about I call you back in an hour or so and you can shop the website more? WWWWHHHHATTTT??? Opened an account in May and ordered shoes, was told they would be at the store June 7 and they would call me. June 8, I called them. No shoes and was told the order was canceled. I reordered and was told they would they would be in June 26. No call so on July 1 I called and was told the shoes would not be in until July 24. Went to the one at Tuttle Crossing Mall...went to three different checkouts. Each one, the service person was carrying on at length conversations with the customers. Moving slowly, talking as if they were neighbors across a fence. The first one, we waited and waited and waited. The salesclerk saw the line forming and pretty much did not acknowledge us, nor call for assistance. Went to another one and the line was formed so we go in back of that line. Well, didn't see on the other side of the register was a line forms here sign. So after standing there, and it was our turn, the sales clerk says the people who had just walked up behind that sign were next. I asked why they were taking customers from where we were standing and she said if she didn't take them, she'd get in trouble! Finally we get checkout out, get home and guess what?! On June 11th ,2018 at approx. 12:30 pm I walked into JC Penny Polaris with three shirts that my husband have purchased on his JC Penny card through the online service some time back with the OHIO STATE BUCKEYES CHAMPIONS. We had a number of thongs that had been going on so,this was the first opportunity to get to the store to receive credit back into the JC Penny card. I went into the store with three shirts and the clerk took all three shirts and looked up the transaction and gave me a receipt, as I was walking to go out to my car I looked at the receipt and noticed that there was credit for two shirts and not the third shirt. I went directly back to the counter and ask the clerk why were there only credit for two shirts and not the third. She looked on the computer and said" that there was credit for the third shirt, but she had no ideal how that happen". She keep the shirt not returning it back to me. I went out to the parking lot and ask my husband about the order, in which he would have had to be put in a wheel chair to come into the store, so I went back into the store to ask for the third shirt back. The line was long and I waited in line like everyone else, once I got to the counter their was a new person at the counter and the young lady that had done the original traction had left from the area. I get to the counter and tell the young lady about the issue with the shirt she stated "that she did not know how to look online sells and the numbers off the ideas". Another clerk cut in to help, but claim the same problem, that she had no way to know what shirt was the free shirt. I stated to her that the first young lady looked up the order when I returned and questioned the amount of refund of a original purchase of a total of one hundred and eight dollars and some old cents. She only had a credit of sixty two dollars on the receipt and told that it added up to the amount, I showed her that three twenty seven dollars do add up to sixty two dollars. I was due back on e of the three shirts. The young lady into called for a manger. I waited for a while on the manger to come and help handle the manner. One the manger get there, "she ask who was the person", she seen me and tells the clerk " put her to the side away from the counter", I moved back some away from the counter, as she began doing other and than talk to the worker about the issue as if I was not there. I than was addressed by the manger, with the "statement, if you what the third shirt back you have to pay twenty seven dollars for it". I explained to her that my husband had several issues with the online service and they had given the shirt for free and had credit his account. The manger in turn tells me that I returned the shirt and would have to pay twenty seven dollars to get it back. I told her that I would be more than willing to pay the difference for the shirt and she again tell me that I have to pay for the free shirt. The manger than calls the online service and the tell her that the shirt was given free from a promotion and she was not happy about that and I than talked to the online service there in the store, the man tells me that the shirt was free with promotion. As I was on the phone with him she states, "you have to pay for the shirt ", and I again tell the man that she has the shirt and will not return it to me. I was still on the phone with the on line service and the manger out loud in the store and in front of customers and staff say" you are stealing and that is stealing from the store", I said no you are stealing from me, you have the shirt that I received for free and not willing to return it to me and resell it in the store and get the money from my shirt. The manger than yell again" you are stealing" and pick up one of the shirts and throw it at me from across the counter in front of everybody in the store saying," you take the shirt. I left the store very upset about the way the whole issues was handle and for to say that I was stealing and than throw a shirt at me was very unprofessional and very discouraging to return to that store with customers service like that. I would never thought in a million years that I would be accused of stealing and I actually retired from the corrections department, so I truly know what happens for stealing, that not what I do. I could not get anyone to wait on me at the jewelry counter-- the clerk there rudely told me to go to customer service without checking to see what I needed. I tried to call the store to get my question answered and the operator hung up on me after the phone rang 80+ rings. First of all, I love JCPenney. This is just my opinion of this particular store. When it comes to customer service (which JCP has emphasized greatly in the past year) polaris is at the bottom. They put very little effort and do the least amount of work possible, but still get away with it. I have been there many times and they always seem to go out of their to way to avoid work. When I go to the Tuttle Crossing store they are always willing to check and call another store for an item. They go above and beyond. However, Polaris will tell you an item is in stock at another store but will not call and verify the inventory is correct. Also, I have been at the Tuttle location and they willingly called Polaris to check on an item. After waiting for almost a half hour because the four assoicates she talked to hung up "accidentally", were too "busy" and "forgot" (this was a tuesday afternoon, mind you) they finally "looked" and said they didn't have it. Since I live near Polaris I decided to go there myself later that day and check, sure enough they had it...infact, they had two! All in all, if you want a good shopping experience go to the JCPenney's at Tuttle Crossing. If you want a poor experience with lazy associates, you know where you can go. read more

I recently called the home department ( curtains&blinds) to make an appointment for a in home consultation, however I believe when the consultant confirmed where I lived she made up an excuse that she could not come during the time it was scheduled, this has happened to me twice in 6 months time. Hi, So this review is solely about the JcPenny Salon at the Polaris fashion place. The rates are very reasonable, the hair service is pretty good most of the times, so I have been there about 7-8 times, but this review is about my experience the last couple of times. 1. I took an appointment for 2:15 one Sunday afternoon for hair conditioning. I reach there at 2:10. As mentioned by others, the front desk people are very annoying, they dont greet, they treat you as if they are doing a favor (I remember this time the lady's name was Kristin). I was asked to wait. AT around 2:45 I remind them that I have been waiting for 30 mins, Kristin tells me that "Courtney" will be with me in 2 minutes. AT 3:00, after a 45 minutes wait, I walk up to the desk and I am mad, so I tell her that this is why we take appointments so that we dont waste Sunday afternoons. Kristin and the other person at the front desk are not even one bit sorry, and they tell me that "It happens, sometimes schedules slip" (No apology). I asked them to send anybody available, they say that nobody is available right now. after another 10 mins finally Courtney comes and she is at least sorry for the wait. SHe did not do a good job at all, she was fairly new, and dint really know what to do, whether to wash or not, how long to leave under the blower etc. which is annoying but I can understand people are sometimes new and learning, as long as they are polite I can live with that. Kristin on the other hand has been very arrogant. 2. 4 months ago I took an appointment for a facial for 7:15 pm. I had a horror experience earlier where they called an hour before and cancelled my appointment saying the person was not available. SO this time I called at 6:30 (45 mins before appointment) to confirm my appointment and was told I could come. After I reached there at about 7:10, I was told that there has been some mistake and that person has called in sick and is not available, and that whoever confirmed my appointment was mistaken. I am really mad, so I demanded I get the appointment with someone else. At about 7:50 after a 40 minutes wait, I finally did have a facial done, which was done well. JcPenny store managers, your services are good and the prices are reasonable, but if your front desk people are not good enough, then it is really a waste of effort for you and a waste of time for us. read more

Terrible experience with ordering jewelry online then getting it delivered to the JCPenney store at Polaris (Columbus, OH). Order information shows it would be ready for pickup in 4-12 business days but website says usually 4-7 business days. It has now been 12 business and several calls with the store and customer service and the only info I am told is that my jewelry has been "shipped" but not ready for pick up. This has been the status since last week. I was put on hold for over 20 minutes with the store and finally hung up then tried calling back three times and the line kept saying it was unavailable. I was informed by the store associate that they could call the manufacturer and get more details on when my jewelry was shipped but I needed to call back the next day (without reason as to why I needed to call back again). Since I could not get in touch with the store again I called customer service and they said they could not call the manufacturer. They offered to cancel my order, that was the only solution provided and I declined because I still want my jewelry and my card has already been charged!
