A customer seemed to be returning 100 items and once line got to 6 people, the staff called for help. What a ridiculous decision after seeing the customer literally returns what seems to be a rack of items! Another staff arrived to help with the long line and a person several of us thought was with the person with multiple returns, took the next cashier. So selfish. read more

Recently I had a winter coat malfunction. I mean, I just bought this new winter coat two months prior and the zipper on it broke, to the point where I could not keep the jacket zipped and I looked ridiculous. I was about to head on a trip and I was in need of a functioning winter coat before leaving. My faith in department stores have dwindled as they have shrunk in their footprint from their overall commercial footprint to their in store footprint. I wanted and hoped that JCPenney would be helpful in finding a winter jacket. When I walked in, I was upset because, in the midst of winter, they had already started to clear out the winter gear and replacing it with the summer gear. I mean, yeah, I get it, you want to get a head start on the sales, but we were still in the prime winter months and you had a mere handful of winter jackets left over. In sizes there were either too small or too big for me. I was exhausted at this point as I had been to several other businesses that day looking for winter coats. Then, well, then I found one. I took it off the hanger, tried it on, and it fit perfectly, or at least as close to perfect as it could. With my stature, I still looked like that kid from A Christmas Story, but it worked. It was warm, had a removable hood, and most importantly, a workable zipper. Then I saw the price...yikes! I was determined to see if the price tag was correct. I took the jacket with me in search of a price check scanner in the store. Lord, was that a mistake. I searched high and low for a scanner only to discover JCPenney does not have one. See, this wouldn't have been a problem except for the fact that it was on a sale rack and not listed as one of the items actually for sale. After traversing the store and seeing the lines at the registers, I found myself in the jewelry department of all places. Here is where I asked the gentlemen behind the counter if there were any price check scanner and he told me no. He offered to scan it for me and I found out that the price was actually 60% off. I thanked him for doing that and asked if he could ring it up as well. He obliged (and saved me so much time instead of standing at those long lines at the other registers). He even went the extra mile and walked with me toward the mall entrance to ensure I had a bag to cover the coat. Place the coat in it, tied it shut and I was on my way. I'm going to go straight to the point! It's Monday April 9th and as you can imagine the mall is so dry and there's nothing going on. I booked a photo session at JC Penney. You ask why? Well because my first experience 5 years ago was memorable but today it was an eye sore. My appointment was for 2:45p and we arrived at 2:50p and the person who attended to us ( I know her name. Notice I said person because I refuse to call her an employee because I am very sure she does not represent the JC Penney brand) acted like there were 100 other guests. She kept saying she had a timeline and we were 5 mins late. Really 5 mins!!!! She was so unaccommodating, rude, unpleasant, useless, unprofessional and so much more!!! This deserves a ZERO stars but I'm giving it 3 stars because I know this is not JC Penney. To JC Penney if you care about this comment give me a call and I will let you know who the person is and share the name with you. Our experience today was horrible and I came with children. My husband and I came in to browse for clothes for an event. We didn't find anything in the color we wanted. The clearance section for the men was nice and is considering on coming back to look for items for my son. Saw some reasonable priced shirts in various sizes that will make a great gift and for donation. The lines for check out were rather long and it didn't seem to find any sales person on the floor that could provide any assistance. I will say, I almost tool faint due to the heat was extra hot in the store, thatbI ended up coming out of my coat. read more

I went to pick up a order that I placed on line and unfortunately Bibi was the cashier. The white woman in front of me was greeted pleasantly and thanked for her patience. When I got to the counter I was greeted with a simple hello and asked for the barcode and last 4 digits of the credit card (she didn't ask the white woman for her cc number - which was a first for me). I explained that I would get the code and she responded in a very condescending tone "well, I'm going to need you to have more information before I can help you). I told her once again that I was retrieving it and she went to the back. When she returned I showed the barcode and she condescendingly announced, "so you do have the code". I explained that I retrieved it just as I told her. In today's age customer service should have no color and I was very disappointed in the service that I received from this employee. There aren't many JC Pennys around and with staff like Bibi I can see why. read more

This is an anchor store located in the Mall in Columbia. It has just about everything for the whole family: -men's dept -women's dept -children's -shoes and accessories -appliances -furniture -fine jewelry -Sephora (cosmetics) -salon -portrait studio I like that they have a clearance section throughout the store that offers deep discounts. They also have circular coupons regularly. Today I had a coupon for $10 off of $10 or more. I found a shirt in the junior's dept that was on clearance for $10.49 so all I owed was 52 cents. Score! My only feedback and wish was that the petites dept had more trendier styles. I guess the clientele that shop at this location is a bit older than I am. Consequently, I also shop in the junior's dept. Today I discovered that I should go to the children's dept as they have plus sizes for girls. Since I am 5" this benefits me as the clothes would be cheaper in the children's dept. Lastly, when I roamed throughout the store, I also discovered that JCPenney also sells appliances and furniture. I was not aware that they sold appliances. The sales didn't seem as competitive as other appliance stores. read more

Was told at time of purchasing a ring, that the "sizing" would be included in the extended warranty I purchased for $58.00 and it would be two (2) weeks; was also told it'd be two (2) weeks for sizing at a prior store same day; was told in a telephone contact follow up after ten (10) days, that the ring would be available the next day - That day came and went, then was told it'd be three (3) weeks; JC Penny's customer service contact resulted in being told there was no information they could provide, nor help with - I insisted on being transferred to corporate office (with no invitation offered for such); Corporate states the third party vendor would be contacted and I"d get a reply within 48 hours - requested contact within 24 hours, as 48 hours shouldn't be necessary for a contact of the third party vendor and subsequent contact of myself - ever evolving info.: "next day" ready, no help from JC Penny's customer service without insisting on corporate contact info., two (2) weeks becomes three (3) weeks, third (3rd) party vendor contact takes 48 hours. Too much resistance to assistance, too much resistance to resolution of my concern re. 48 hours. Think twice about buying any item one can't leave with immediately, as I mull ending my relationship with JC Penny's and evaluate the steps I'll possibly need to take for JC Penny's to uphold reasonable levels of customer service and merchandise promises. read more

Unfortunately the staff are so focused on getting people to open accounts that people who just want to buy their merchandise and leave are unable to. I stood for almost half an hour in line waiting for the cashiers to deal with issues associated with new account openings. If I didn't need to merchandise I would have walked out and left, as several other customers did. The experience was horrendous. I ended up going to another section and paying there, but the frustration is hard to forget. read more

The store is kept pretty clean and the employees are very helpful if you need assistance. I came in looking for Levi's jeans and within minutes of walking in, I found the section. There was a rack of jeans to the side which looked like they could be on sale but had just been left out. A little confusing but hey. There was a little confusion as to the policy in regards to opening the store doors after they close to let customers out and into the mall to walk to the exits closer to their cars. I actually had to walk out their exit around the mall to another entrance to get back in and to the exit to the garage. I would recommend having an employee at the door to open them for guest at the end of the night. read more

I'm not sure what my expectations were when I came to this JCPenney to pick up some drapes, but I was really surprised in a good way. The store was so clean and orderly and actually was pleasant to walk through. The downstairs is a little confusing and could benefit from some extra signage but the upstairs with homewares is very bright and spacious. My online order for in-store pickup wasn't ready yet but the staff were so friendly and accommodating and insisted they find my product right away instead of making me come back later as I offered. All the staff were very helpful and professional. In contrast, I walked over to the Macy's which was very cluttered, disorganized, and had no staff anywhere in sight. I noticed this store has a hair salon and portrait studio as well as a mattress department and clearance corner tucked away in the back, so there's a lot to offer here. read more

JCPENNY is Horrible!!! On January 7, 2022, I contacted customer service regarding a defective mattress cover that I purchased. The associate that I was transferred was not helpful to say the least. After several failed attempts to convey the information about the mattress cover, I terminated the call. This is where the story gets crazy. The associate proceeded to call my phone, back to back, over 13 times!!! When I did not answer the phone, he started texting me messages spewing explicit words in addition to some racial and homophobic slurs. I immediately contacted customer service and asked to speak to a supervisor. I was connected to "Dazzy", who identified herself as the call center floor supervisor. After hearing my recount of the situation Dazzy seemed unfazed and was unapologetic about her associate's behavior. I asked for a corporate phone number, and she told me there wasn't one. Instead, she gave me an email address and instructions to make my complaint there. After the call I did a quick google search and discovered the phone number for the corporate office. I called corporate and was told someone would contact me about the situation. Still waiting... Needless to say I will NEVER, under any circumstances, patronize JCPENNY again! Never again read more

I recently purchased three suits in the Mens department at the Columbia, MD JCPenney store in the Columbia Mall. The salesman Murray was awesome in fitting me for the suits and offered lots of good suggestions in size, color, and material/brand. I was very pleased with the service and the price in addition to the suits! I would highly recommend going to JCPenney's at the Columbia Mall, but call first to make sure Murray is working in the mens suits department. read more

As I approach my 30th birthday, I thought it would be a good time to put my grown up face on. I did something my mom has been encouraging me to do for while and got my makeup done here at the Sephora store inside JcPenney . I am pretty clueless about most things makeup but Beth was patient and spent a good amount of time with me. In turn, I spent a great deal of money. I got home and realized quickly that it was a bit too much and had to retrurn all but one thing the next day. I was recently going out of town for work and looking for some business casual apparel. I was pleasantly surprised to find a fantastic selection here! I'm 6'4 250, pretty big guy but not sloppy and when I find dress shirts that fit in the neck, 17 1/2, they rarely fit my arm length 37. I found exactly what I needed at JCPenney. I picked out 3 pair of trousers, 3 button up shirts, 5 pair of socks and a belt They were "on sale" and I would have been happy with that price. When I got to the cashier, of course I was offered a JCPenney card, which I always decline, except for today. I was given 35% off on top of the sale prices..The prices are unbelievable really. All in all, I walked away with high quality items for $154! Great value, great selection for size, color and style! Highly recommended! read more

We selected a men's shirt for purchase but the SALE price did not come up. The cashier would not check the price by calling a manager. We then took the shirt back to where we found it and showed the sign to a manager on that floor and only then were able to get the correct price. Luckily, we were shopping during the mid afternoon lull. They have very few registers open and often have to wait in a long line. read more

Portrait studio review: I have been coming to jcpenny portraits for 10 Years and this was the WORST experience. We had a 1:00 appt but I got a phone call requesting we arrive 15 minutes early. We were not seen for an hour after we arrived with the manager citing technical difficulties this morning. I get it, stuff happens... but a courtesy call to let us know they were running late would Have helped immensely. We could have grabbed the kids a snack instead of waiting for an hour like idiots. With 3 small kids that I have to plan naps around..:. By the time we got in they were a cranky mess and I will honestly be surprised if we got even one good picture. We also used only one of their props even though i was told they had wreaths, lights and more... The staff is nice... maybe they should book the appointments further apart... something... cause it was an epic fail and felt like a waste of time. Not to mention incredibly stressful. Also... with it being a huge inconvenience even a courtesy offer of a free picture or something would have been nice but .... nothing... It was hugely unprofessional and that is what appointments are supposed to be for. I will say the photographers did their best once we were in but as i said my kids were tired and hungry and it was all unnecessary and could have been prevented with a simple courtesy call. read more

When asked about the issue, the employees are rude and condescending, especially the young man with the long beard. This review is for JCP.com to be fulfilled by the Columbia Mall store. I ordered 2 of the digital hot mugs and a pair of mixit slippers on December 5. The phone rep told me I could pick the mugs up on the same day, from the store. I went to the store and was told there were no mugs to fulfill the order. I went downstairs, found two mugs, and used my coupons to purchase those. My order was still outstanding. I get an email a week later telling me that the same mugs were on sale on JCP.com. I went to the site and it said they had sold out. Today I get an email from JCP.com telling me the slippers were ready for pick up but I would have to wait another 4-7 business days before I could get the mugs! It is Dec 12. Wld the order make it for gift giving? They sold the items but did not fulfill my order made on Dec 5. Someone is not on the ball! read more

The store is no different than any other but what may be different is their customers service. It stinks! I walked through the Shoe department for more than 5 minutes while the 2 women set behind the cashiers desk talking as if no one was around. No "hello" "how are you" Nothing..You can always tell when people are only there for a pay check. I even made eye contact with them while holding a shoe and neither of them stop their conversation to say anything. read more

JC Penney has several problems. Most of my orders are through the online service. Orders sometimes get to me, late, sometimes not at all. Other times they are sent 30 miles out of the way, like to Columbia Mall rather than Woodmore Center which is closer to me. I live in DC. Another order, my last order I will ever submit to Penney's is still stuck in transit, since Dec. 3. It was supposed to be a Christmas present. I have been calling for customer service assistance for the past half hour and have had three hang-ups, two with customer service and the last one was the store manager. One phone call to the department that actually received my one order--never picked up. I was unable to collect it, since the sales person had no paperwork to process my pickup. I asked for it to be returned. Now a more than a month later, I'm told it is just sitting in the store, charged to me and I was told by one CS person who didn't hang up and did answer his phone that he couldn't help me, I had to call the store myself. Contacting the dept, no answer, called the store manager and got a hang-up. I am committed to paying them off and closing my account. Wish I could give them no stars. PS: After traveling 30 miles to Columbia, it took me 20 more minutes to locate the department where the watch was located. It was not in the regular pickup area, it was in fine jewelry. No good signage. Mobility challenged, I had to find stool and sit down rather than wait in line and not one sales person recognized my problem even though I sat 1 foot away from the nearest clerk handling pickups. I truly enjoyed back to school shopping with my middle schooler! The selection was great (some prices a bit too high, imo) & we bought some nice things. HOWEVER, as soon as we walked into the store (entering from their parking lot) the smell of mold was horrendous & hits you right away! On our way out I "examined" the ceiling & saw BLACK MOLD on EVERY air duct (-?) vent. PLEASE, PLEASE FIX THIS!!! How dangerous that is not only for customers but PLEASE do this for your employees! I ordered a bed from JCPenney, and the customer service I received was terrible. First, the salesperson lied to me about when the bed would arrive. Part of the reason I chose JCPenney was because they told me it could arrive when I wanted it to, which other stores could not guarantee. It was supposed to arrive on a Thursday. On the Wednesday before I received a call telling me that they could not have it delivered until the following Tuesday, since they only ship things to my area on Tuesdays (despite what the salesperson said). Well, I worked all day Tuesday and could not get time off work for the delivery. I tried to get someone else to be there, but it was not possible. I finally got the bed the following Tuesday, but the whole process meant 12 days sleeping on an air mattress (which JCPenney said they would pay for, and did not). Overall, terrible experience with customer service and lying salespeople. read more

I went to the regular Sephora for an exchange of a foundation that wasn't my color without a receipt, I was told I can do this with no issue but had to go to the JCPenny Sephora since that is where it was purchased. The cashier Jamya was new and not sure how to do returns. The manager Sheila came to assist but stated the JCPenny Sephora is limited to assisting since it is not the actual Sephora store, she stated a credit of $7 is all I can get for a bottle of Fenty foundation without the receipt. This was not the information I received from 2 other stores. An older woman came to the register with a really bad attitude, she was very rude and didn't introduce herself. She made comments such as "$7 is all she is getting". I ignored her comments for about 5 minutes while I looked in my email for a receipt. I heard her sarcastically tell Jamya "this bottle is empty", then I confronted her and told her she is lacking customer service and professionalism. I showed her the bottle wasn't empty as it is not my color so it was barely used, she made more smart remarks. I asked for her name and department but she refused to provide it, Jamya provided it. I then told her I was reporting her to corporate and she stated: "I don't care do it, I am leaving" and left! Sheila the Sephora manager stated that Cheryl was continuously saying things to her in the corner about my return. This is disgusting and unprofessional. When I found out that Cheryl was the assistant store manager I was even more appalled by her behavior and actions. This is uncalled for, unprofessional and horrible customer service! What kind of company hires an incompetent, unprofessional, horrible Assistant Store Manager as Cheryl?! The lack of customer service is a huge factor in many of these negative reviews and I have experienced just that! read more

Think you got a good deal on portraits! Wrong! You are absolutely, 100% wrong because we should have been paid for the wretched experience that was J.C.Penney portrait studio. First bad thing - over an hour wait despite having an appointment. Second bad thing - rude front desk staff. Third bad thing - finally get pictures done and rushed to make a selection. Fourth bad thing - it turns out the photos I selected for our digital album are not what we got. We got some arbitrary crap photos from the shoot that the harried front desk person selected without me seeing until too late. So long Christmas cards! Fifth bad thing - go to pick up print photo of the only photo I actually wanted to discover they will give me prints of the other photos I actually wanted IF I give them another $20. Methinks NOT! I must say that I was truly impressed by the service of yohannes. I worked all day and was tired. and didn't feel like shopping on this day. I went looking for a tuxedo for my son. Yohannes waited on me and hand and foot. He measured my son, matched his shirt up with his bowtie and also recommend other items for him. His service was so great, I ended up ordering 2 tuxedos instead of 1. Great service, wish everyone service was as great as his. read more

Zero stars! Do not waste your money going to JCPenney Portraits at Columbia Mall. These are a bunch of amateurs with a camera. I understand that JCP's executives only care about profits and hiring professional photographers is out of the question, but lying to customers about having professional photographers to steal money from innocent and hardworking customers is disgraceful. The advertisement said photo session with "professional photographers", I arrive to the Columbia JCP Portrait studios with excitement, I spent a few hundred dollars to get my hair styled, bought new clothes for my husband and baby. Well, not what I expected. First, one young lady behaved as though we had interrupted her exit time to go home; she must have been counting the minutes away to closing time. As a result, what should have been 30 photos turned to 7 photos, and only 3 good ones. the Ad advised customers to choose pose ideas from their website; we showed them the poses, and they could not replicate the photos. The Wheaton JCP staff mentioned that the Columbia Mall "has everything" (pertaining to props used in the photos), well, we arrived and they immediately told us that they did not have must props. After we drove 1 hour to get to Columbia, I thought, ummm, let us make the best of this situation. Well, it was hard to because the photos were horrible; amateurs with a camera. The blanket they used was dirty, the girl could not replicate the images that they had in their studio and website. horrific experience! I am no longer a JCP fan after this ordeal, disgraceful false advertisement! The least execs could do is hire aspiring photographers, perhaps they would be enthusiastic about their tasks because it would be all about learning new techniques and somewhat enjoyable since they would be aspiring photogs.... read more

I was in a classic "good news, bad news situation" The good news is that my professional life is heating up and I'm getting a lot of publicity. The bad news was that I didn't have a current head shot to send out - and I hate getting in front of cameras. It didn't help that so many of the price tags waved around by photographers I approached were pretty steep. So I got an offer from one of my online vendors offering a deal at JC Penney's Photo Studio. I was desperate to get the head shot off my list of things to do (and my PR folks off my back) so I booked it. I went in today for the shoot and was simply blown away by how good an experience it was. Ashton, the Studio Manager, was a dream to deal with - intelligent, quite personable, with a really good grasp of what worked for photographing camera-shy business women like me. The studio and equipment were clean and well-maintained, Ashton was adept at using the camera and trying out angles and lighting arrangements that flattered me, and in no time at all I was leaving with a CD of a near-perfect head shot. I'll send the rest of my business associates in his direction and likely return next year for an updated photo. Nice job! read more
