I had read the great reviews on the company in our neighborhood ListServ. I called and spoke to Mr Nelson who scheduled an appt for me. I had a giant block of snow and ice on the street in front of my house and was unable to remove it myself. The company owner came at 8am the next morning for an estimate and within 30 minutes , the job was done with their tractor plow. They worked quickly and efficiently. I got estimates from 5 tree service companies, and JC Tree offered the most competitive rate. I got a large sycamore tree cut, stump removed, and they identified another sick tree in my yard and removed a dead branch from it. They removed a panel from my wooden fence and used a crane to get the grinder in my yard to remove the stump - something other companies told me was impossible. They made it look easy! I had a stump in a very awkward location that other tree company's either refused to grind or wanted to charge me an exorbitant price. Jose with JC came out and gave me an estimate, excellent price, and completed the job all in one day! They had to use a crane to get the stump grinder over my wall, then use railroad ties to build a ramp to get it around my home, and they completed the job very quickly. I found Jose and his whole crew to be very responsible and professional. They cleaned up once the job was done and the stump was removed! I can't speak for the low reviews other people left regards firewood, but they do a good job cutting trees. Took down 2 large trees. All day job, they stopped for like 30 min for lunch and powered thru the rest of the day. I paid for stump grinding and they did a good job leveling out the ground after. I am going to have a landscape company do the reseeding so can't speak to their restoration service. Price was fair with respect to the other estimates I got. read more

I had two trees that were not on my property line so we have to ensure we got the OK and able to access it to complete the job and your team made it all happen. The clean-up was perfect, all debris was carefully stacked or taken away. Your crew was very professional, safety-conscious, and efficiently attached are photos of a few shots of the actual work getting done. All this happened in two days and for a reasonable cost. Juan and his team work quickly and are reliable. Having dealt with a few other companies that give you quotes, but then have to rent machines, I was pleasantly surprised that they came ready to do the job with all the necessary equipment. I recently had two large trees come down in one of those crazy storms... one a 100 year old oak, the other a mature cherry...I was referred to JC through a friend and they showed up within 45 minutes to have a look and provide an estimate. Their pricing was extremely reasonable and they not only took out these massive trees but ground them out for me as well... having to disassemble a fence in order to get the stump grinder into the back yard. While their communication can be lacking, they have shown up... on multiple days... and done exactly what they said they would do... including taking down the cherry, which had hit my porch and was a difficult removal and they couldn't use a crane. JC Tree Service removed 3 very old, large, dead Red Oak trees for us. The trees were over 150 years old and were starting to drop branches and large limbs. JC Tree Service staff, all 9 of them on this job, worked diligently and carefully for 9 long hours to cut down the trees, chip the branches and grind the huge stumps, cut and stack firewood for us, and thoroughly clean and remove all debris from our yard. We very much appreciated their expertise and would not hesitate to call on them in the future. Lastly, they were very reasonable in their pricing for this work. Job well done! read more

While they did a good job removing our tree, their post tree removal landscaping restoration service was very poor. They used poor quality topsoil that has not been able to support either the meager grass seed they put down or the supplemental seed we've put down. We've asked them to remove what they've put down and redo it in the fall and have been met with excuses or silence. I would not use them again and will dissuade others from using them until they remedy the situation and stand behind their work. read more

Note this company also goes by "Tree Care & Yard Restoration" as well as "JC Tree Services". Both listed as LLCs. Things seemed to start out great. Sandy seemed knowledgable and friendly. She got us scheduled quickly to have a dead tree removed. We said at the very outset that because of sleep/shift schedules for people in our home, we needed to start later morning. She said that was fine, but it might take a second day. We said that's okay. Then the problems started. Sandy told me she would get me the COI so many times I lost track. They texted to say they couldn't do it on the day scheduled and rescheduled it. Then they told me they couldn't do it on that day either. Then the next. This went on with at least three reschedulings that were exclusively due to their own scheduling issues, nothing to do with us. Now we are over 3 weeks on and they are scheduled to arrive next day late morning. Sandy calls me at home and says the person who actually does the work has to start early morning because it's getting darker later, which makes sense because they have repeatedly delayed this over and over and now it's past Daylight Savings Time and it is certainly darker early. But, they want to make their scheduling problem now into our issue. Instead of doing it in two days if needed, as she initially said, now they don't want to do it at all unless they can do it their way at their time. So, after accommodating their scheduling mishandling over and over again, they go back on the basic agreement that we made with them that led us to enter into a working relationship in the first place, which is a later morning start. They made their problem our problem and did not show us the same courtesy we showed them, wasting our time over and over again only to refuse to do the work on the scheduling they initially agreed upon. I'm glad to hear things worked out for others, and perhaps things would have been better in our situation under other circumstances. If you engage their services. You should be aware of a few things: 1) Sandy doesn't appear to be in charge of things, she is an intermediary. If the guy in charge of doing the work doesn't want to do it, he won't and Sandy does not appear to be able to influence the situation; 2) Whatever is going on with them, this company does not have their scheduling act together. Rescheduling three times is a marker of a company that is not organized or has so many internal problems it's spilling way over into the customer experience; 3) They are willing to break their agreements with you. This last issue is actually the very most concerning to me and should be to others as well. read more

I contacted Juan Rosales owner of this company three times to deliver wood to my house. Each time he gave me a day and time of day that the wood would be delivered. The second and third time he promised me that the wood would be delivered. The wood never came. Not only was the wood not delivered but he never called to apologize. I have been dealing with different Tree Services for over two years now. These people were unbelievable... Professional, courteous, and the fairest price I have found yet in the DC area. They cut down 9 trees, grounded stumps, and chipped until all I had left was fresh mulch. It looks like a different yard. I first spoke to Juan 2 weeks ago when I responded to his ad on Craigslist for firewood. We spoke. He was nice. We discussed possible times for delivery, etc. and we scheduled a time a few days out. I live in an English Basement with a house upstairs and the garage where we store the wood technically belongs to the home so I gave them a heads up about its arrival. They informed me that they would need to clear room which would involve renting a truck and going to the dump, so I let Juan know that we were going to have to push off delivery until that was taken care of. There was some back and forth about him possibly hauling away the junk, but the neighbors wanted to handle it themselves. After it was taken care of that weekend, I got in touch with Juan and we decided he would deliver "about" noon on Saturday. I woke up not feeling well on Saturday and I never heard from Juan, so I just didn't worry about it. The following Monday, I called him up and left a voicemail letting him know that I was still interested. Late in the week when I felt comfortable solidifying a time, I reached out to him. He gave me a bit of a lecture about it taking so long and asking if I was really interested. I explained again the situation with the neighbors and did not point out that I had not heard from him either since we had been pushing this out so I thought it was fair of him to voice concern. On Saturday morning, he told me that his little brother could deliver the wood Saturday afternoon. I had messaged him asking if he could do late Sunday afternoon, but I didn't push it when he said Saturday and went out to get cash. When I hadn't heard anything late in the day, I sent him a text and he said he could bring it Sunday. I said that was fine but it would have to be late in the day as I wouldn't be home until then. I suggested that if he wanted to deliver it earlier, one of my neighbors may be able to meet him with the cash. I called him when I was on my way home on Sunday and he told me that he could be there around five. I asked if he could do 4 and he said he would try to do earlier but couldn't guarantee it. I also explained that the garage backs to the alleyway so he would be able to stack the wood right by the truck. He asked me to text him the address (again) and I sent him our address and directions to the alleyway. I spoke with my neighbors and they were planning to be at home at 5 and were happy to meet him, so I texted them and Juan in one text making the introduction and saying that he should coordinate his arrival through my neighbor who has the cash for the wood to which he responded "you waste too much of my time". I inquired as to what he meant as nothing had changed in the plan except that someone else was going to meet him, cash in hand, who is someone I'd mentioned on nearly every call.
