UPDATE FROM MY INITIAL REVIEW:…read more I recently attended a tournament at this bowling alley and, unfortunately, my experience was disappointing. I brought a concern to the staff regarding the integrity of the tournament. While I did receive a response after messaging privately, it was dismissive and unnecessarily rude. I was told that my concern was unfounded and even that I had not approached table attendants--something that is untrue as I did approach them. I do not have concrete proof beyond what was openly admitted and bragged about by others, but the way my concern was handled left me with little confidence in the fairness or professionalism of this establishment. Beyond the tournament itself, my overall impression of the facility was not positive. Concessions were overpriced, the menu was difficult to read due to constant blinking, and staff at the counter were rushed and curt when taking orders. However, after experiencing their customer service privately with an issue and as displayed in the owner's comments below any review less than perfect on Google, the rudeness I was greeted with is no surprise. Further displaying the lack of professionalism. Given the number of tournaments this alley hosts, I regret that my experience left me with concerns about both organization and customer service. For bowlers and families seeking a fair, welcoming, and professional tournament environment, there are other options in San Antonio that are more reliable.

I understand that most bowling places in…read moremilitary bases need maintenance work because they are old, outdated, smell bad, look terrible, etc... I get that. So, what truly got to me while visiting was the unthoughtful costumer service. Due to COVID19 restrictions they sell food but not drinks.. explain that! I wanted coffee they got none (because of the restrictions) I went to the small px next door purchased 6 coffees for me and my party and when I come in (happy with 6 coffees) the staff tells me I can't bring it in. Really?! Yet, you sell pizzas without a box or any container to cover them. The only reason this bowling place gets a 2 star is: 1. Price (good for brand new enlisted soldiers) 2. The bowling software does have a neat feature where they take pics of you and show during the game. So of you are in training, you can't go off base and there is nothing else to do Fort Sam Houston Bowling Center is the place to to go. Otherwise, go off post and be happy somewhere else. The place literally stinks.

So, the bowling alley snack bar has been my go to for burgers. They are usually the absolute best I've ever had. Not this time. Sadly. The burger was burned. Black on one side burned. I could gag down 1/3 of it before I just gave up & threw it away. I've had great burgers here before, hence the 4 stars. Just not this time. Of course I'll go back. I stick by my statement about snack bar burgers. The fries were perfect. The guy was not as friendly as he has been in the past, but one never knows what kind of day someone is having. So, no grudges. There is something about on Base bowling alley for me. The ambience, the sounds, the vibe - I love the place. Now, I have heard the wings are pretty darn good. So, maybe next time I'll go for the wings & update my report.
