I'm not sure where to even start. I really enjoyed going to Club Pilates in Glen Ellyn. I had been…read moregoing there for about three months when I had to have emergency surgery. I know how rigid they are with everything so as soon as I was out of the hospital, I called and filled out a medical pause on my account and I could not come back until I had doctor clearance. Not only did I lose the three credits that I had already paid for for the month of my surgery, but my card kept getting charged even after filling out and returning the medical pause. I had to keep calling, emailing, leaving messages at the location. All while recovering from surgery. I was told the manager was not there, the manager was on vacation, someone would call me that afternoon. Well, I did take days for someone finally to call me and refund the charges. Well, then low and behold, a few months go by and they charged my card again. Again I had to make phone calls, emails, I even emailed Club Pilates corporate, I ended up canceling my membership and arguing back-and-forth that I was still not released from my doctor, they "allowed" me to be released from my contract, but still kept one month of dues as a cancellation fee. I would never step foot in a Club Pilates again for their horrible customer service their lack of understanding when people are sick or in my case, laid up from an emergency surgery. The instructors were wonderful, but that's really where it ended. I have heard people have better experiences at other locations. So maybe it's just this particular location in Glen Ellyn, that has completely horrific customer service and lack of understanding. I just was flabbergasted at my treatment. Especially because one day I got all the way to class and the class canceled for whatever reason, did I get an extra class credit to my account for my inconvenience? No, they don't practice what they preach, but I was understanding. Also, there's never anybody answering the phones, if you have an emergency or you're running late or you have a question- forget it the front desk staff maybe answers one in 10 phone calls if you're lucky. I would try a different location if you wanted to check out a Club Pilates. My rating of two stars is only because of the instructors. It would've gotten the minimum otherwise

Don't expect a refund and realize it is very difficult and costly to get out of a membership. This place draws you in on the 6 Week Challenge but it is all a money scam. The staff push the membership instead and offer you a flash drive with meal suggestions which they consider the nutritional offering. Maybe if you hesitate enough, they may even throw in a pair of gloves. But you pay for them too because you can't easily get your membership cancelled. The staff "forget" to cancel your membership or there is a paperwork error only to realize you are continuously being charged. I had to call my credit card company and tell them to block this charge in order to get it to stop. This was only after being charged an additional $200 "early cancellation fee." The whole thing is a money scam. I met very few people who were regular members and stuck with the exercise plan. In fact I witnessed health crises where people had to break from the class to rest or actually leave the facility only to be called out by the staff and humiliated for taking care of their own health. There is no acknowledgement of fitness and out of shape people are brought into rigorous classes with no regard for health and conditioning. It's a scary health situation that is a disaster in the making. I recommended the staff create leveled classes. For example, beginner to learn the fundamentals, middle to push the exercise, and advanced for the full out program. I was told this is not the place for that and if people couldn't keep up they shouldn't join. But clearly many out of shape people looking for a chance to get back into exercise are signed up with no regard for health and ability to keep up. There is a heart attack waiting at the door of this place. It is not worth it especially because there are many well respected and caring trainers available to work with people for far less the cost than this place. Think before you sign.

Tara was my instructor and she took the time to explain the class and the materials (aka props) that we would be using during the class. They recommend doing the class barefoot, but I was more comfortable keeping my socks on. Beautiful space. Although I didn't join, I would recommend if you are looking for some regular fitness. Good for all levels as modifications are shown for each move.

Fast forward three years and I have taken 114 classes at this location. B3 is amazing and this location is part of my life primarily because of the staff. Mariel is of course terrific, but she doesn't hire just anyone. And, all instructors must first attend a training in Oregon (where the company was founded). While each instructor has certain strengths, they are all great and committed to your individual success while simultaneously making the whole group working out feel like everyone matters. You can't get more efficient than that. The trainer, Grant, will help you modify any exercise to your fitness level. The equipment is state of the art and very clean. A bonus is that you can peek in on the kids through a window throughout your workout, which is great for peace of mind. I had no expectations when I joined Burn 2 years ago. They train and encourage all members. There are other trainers but I have not worked with them. But from what I know of the culture I'm sure they have that same welcoming and encouraging strength. The classes have different levels of difficulty and can be modified for any type of comfort level. Amy and Jackie are usually at the front desk checking people in and welcoming everyone. They have taken the time to know my kids names and also welcome them when they walk through the door. Truly this place is such a great place for everyone. There is also a sit down consultation to find where you can improve on your eating and see results of the progress you're making. I do not take as much advantage of this but I probably should. I'm not ready to give up my food but I can say I feel stronger and there has been a change to my body. I will recommend Burn to everyone I know. If you're on the fence I say jump. You will not regret it.

A nice, intimate yoga studio in downtown Lombard! Woohoo!…read more I have been practicing yoga on and off for the past 15 years. Yoga is a great way to stretch and strengthen, as well as, a way to center your mind and clear your head. It has been difficult for me to find a yoga studio that is close to home and has hours for people who work. When I saw Shoucha pop-up in a Yelp search I was elated. This is a small place. The classes I have attended have about 6 students. It looks like 9 people could fit in the space. At first I thought that was bad but then I realized that it made the class feel more personal. The instructor can pretty much see you at a glance and can offer suggestions and adjustments to your poses. Bring your own mat. If you don't have one, they have ones you can rent. I think it costs $1. You can use a multitude of props at no cost. I don't think they do walk in classes but you can sign up for one easily on the website. There is a new student special; $20 for unlimited classes for two weeks. This place has regular yoga and some yoga body bootcamp thing that I want to try. They also offer guided meditation that I will check out later this week.

Soft carpeting warms the floor while hanging plants and the soft glow of Christmas lights give life to the picture window seen from the outside. The soft "hum" of the cars on Main Street and St. Charles will eventually just become part of the studio's presence, rather than an annoyance. Music is played throughout class, (60-75 minutes), and will vary each time. What you take away from the sounds will be different for each person. There's a class for everyone, ranging from Vinyasa Flows, Meditation, to Boot Camp classes. It's recommended to view their schedule on the website or send an e-mail to the studio if you're not familiar. Age is not considered a factor for the practice, you just need to be willing. Each instructor will work with you on variations to each pose, and props are provided. Forgot your mat? There's extra to rent for $1. You will discover what you're truly capable of at Shoucha.

Disorganized & Frustrating Cancellation Process…read more I signed up in May for a $89/month membership after taking a free class. Unfortunately, I never made it back, so I submitted a cancellation request through their app about two months later. That's where everything went downhill. I received a vague one-line email saying my request was "initiated" but needed more information. I replied multiple times asking what was needed--no response. I called, left voicemails, and sent several text messages over the course of months. Still nothing. Meanwhile, I continued to be charged for August and September despite actively trying to cancel. I eventually had to stop payment through my bank. Even after that, I kept reaching out about using the credits I had already paid for. Every time, I was told "Rich will call you back." It took two more months to finally speak with him. Then I was told I only had 30 days post-cancellation to use my credits--something that was never disclosed when I signed up or during my attempts to cancel. Even worse, I was told the only way to use the credits I already paid for was to reactivate my membership and start paying again. To top it off, I found out my account had been sent to collections with no prior notice. This entire experience was frustrating, unprofessional, and completely avoidable with proper communication. Make sure you fully understand their cancellation policies--and get everything in writing--before signing up.
