I have had many trainers in past years and failed. For the past 5 years I have been working out with Joe and have not only lost 80 lbs. but kept most of it off. I say most of it because my diet has not been perfect. All of us hope to achieve certain goals but the reality is that only we can achieve or goals and maintain them! Joe has always been a great motivator to get my diet back on track and is always willing to suggest better ways of eating to help me with a "complete" lifestyle. First of all, you're getting a lot more than personal training. You're getting a nutritionist as well. The facilities are great. Think of a cross fit gym set up without all the scary cross fit people intimidating you. This gym is only used for personal training so there is never more than a few people there during your session. Joe is genuinely committed to you and wants you to succeed. He's really good at what he does, will call you out when needed -- ie. you ate like crap, you cancelled so you could watch the Bachelor, etc etc. He really knows nutrition and he changes up the workouts every time. He doesn't just willy nilly push you, he has you wear a heart monitor so he knows how far to push you and to make sure what he's doing is effective. I really have no complaints and working with Joe has been wonderful. I have gotten so much stronger in just a couple months. The education about nutrition has been key in helping me work towards my weight loss goals --- if only he could transfer self discipline to me too! If you're trying to decide whether to get a gym membership or try a personal training session with Joe, just do the personal training with Joe. He's very approachable and I'm never afraid to let him know if I messed up on my diet. He gives great advice and it definitely changes my perspective to living healthier. Ok I met Joe finally after purchasing a Groupon and letting it expire. I reached out to see what I could do to get started. I want to box and do crossfit training but I need coaching. I AM DETERMINED TO GET IN SHAPE. My first meeting we discussed what I wanted n expected and what he expects. HE PUT ME THROUGH some exercises to see where I am at to create a program for me. I GOT TO see this amazing girl kick some ass on a personal workout session also. Yes my legs killed for 3 days. But I kept walking ad he asked me to get cardiovascular on my days off. I decided to get on an exercise program to better my health & decided to check out GFT. I joined after my first appointment with Joe. He was very knowledgeable about diet & fitness, & he seemed to really care about his clients. We went through some exercises so I could get a sample of what I would be going through. We went over the membership options & I didn't feel like I was being pressured to join. I've been taking the crossfit & boxing classes with Raj & he has been awesome! Owner and trainer Joe McDonald is honest and realistic with you about where you're at and what it will take to reach base fitness and whatever training goals you set. I received a package of 60-minute long personal training sessions for Christmas to kickstart my New Years Resolutions and boy did my ass get a kick start. I've loved the first couple sessions (they hurt so good) as Joe led and paced me through intense circuits. He clearly understands body mechanics and adjusted quickly to my sad muscle failure. He was realistic about how unfit I was but was very positive and motivating with a clear application of goods sports psychology. He's super huge which is intimidating at first for a 5'3" Asian girl glutton who hasn't worked out in a year after playing at the collegiate level... but he's really a big teddy bear at heart (a jacked one). I highly recommend training at this no-frills facility which is kept at a balmy 63 degrees (believe me they'll heat you up quickly) and nicely away from the sweaty smells and traffic that you get with trainers who work out of big gyms. read more

That being said, Joe McDonald is by far the best trainer with whom I have had the fortune of working out. He has set the bar so high that I don't want to move anymore! I've been working with Arthur for personal training and attending small group training at GFT for the past 3 weeks and have already lost 9 pounds. After a thorough orientation and fitness evaluation, Joe and Arthur work with you to set personal fitness goals, teach you about nutrition, and give you the tools you need to reach your goals. The classes are challenging but Arthur makes sure to explain the exercises, focusing on using proper form and provide alternatives for all levels or to work around any injury. During personal training sessions, Arthur is motivating and challenges me to keep me going when I want to quit. The weekly personal training holds me accountable with both nutrition and workouts. Arthur is knowledgeable about correct technique to prevent injury and creating different and challenging workouts. I decided to join the Total Body Transformation program at GTF about 4 months ago... After meeting with Joe for a fitness assessment I knew this is what I needed to bring my fitness to the next level. It was a 12 week program which included weekly weigh ins where we would then go over my food logs for the week. Having the food log definitely held me accountable for my choices I made during the week. The unlimited group training was very accommodating for my crazy schedule!! I was extremely impressed with how knowledgeable all of the trainers are. There's also a private discussion group which I found very helpful. Joe was also always there to help me along the way. I only do business with people who are passionate about what they do, because they give the best service. Joe is no exception. I am terribly out of shape with lofty fitness goals and was slightly intimidated to do personal training and definitely not interested in group classes, but I will say this: Joe and his gym make this an easy thing. That is, he's a trainer who pushes you, a relentless class instructor, and one of the most genuine people I could ever find to help me with goals I've failed at. He gave me a nutritional goal, coaching, a free intro session to gauge my level and goals and I was able to get his amazing introductory personal training sessions and unlimited classes for a month (they have a Groupon, but you can buy directly through him at the same price!). I was going to wait for all of my sessions to end before I gave a review but I want people who are looking for a gym for the holidays to see this. Could you imagine doing a personal training session one day and then waking up at 4:30AM to get to a 5AM boxing class? Me either. But I did it, I loved it, and I signed up for more - and I love my sleep. A+.
