If only I could give this business ZERO stars I would. We used Jay's Moving Co. in August of this year to help us wrap pictures and load our truck for an out of state relocation. The only, and I mean ONLY, good thing I have to say about this company is about the 2 people who wrapped our pictures. They were AWESOME! (If only I could remember their names, because they deserve recognition!) Unfortunately, the rest of our experience was HORRIBLE!
I will start by saying that we had several antique pieces that required wrapping and loading onto our truck. Long story short, we have easily over $1500 in damages and multiple family heirlooms that could never be replaced... and we just 2 weeks ago received a $180.90 check to cover it all! Yes, $180.90. And according to the General Manager, (or as he stated to me, "he is the company") that $180.90 was because they were gracious enough to give it to us.
Now, for some of the details. I will spare you the minor ones because I truly do not have enough time to write about my entire experience...and you will get the point quickly if you haven't already.
We had to ask the movers to wrap certain things with furniture pads as they loaded them on the dollies because they must not have felt like some of the items (antique ones, mind you) needed protection on hard metal surfaces. In fact, our tv dresser was damaged because we did not catch it in time and we saw the mover take a step down with the dolly and the furniture slammed down chipping it.
The movers placed heavy items on top of items that could not stand to have that amount of weight on them. (ie. an antique table that had 2 big screen TV's placed on top. One being 42 in and one being 60 in.) This in turn, led to 3 of the legs of the table totally breaking off.
In total, I believe that we had a total of 13 items that were damaged either completely beyond repair or minor that will require touch ups or replacing due to the fact that I don't feel like they are as nice looking with holes/dents in them!
NOW, on to my other complaint. When it came time to filing the actual claim, I was given 10 days to do so. I did my part and mailed in all of the items. Low and behold, they didn't receive it. (Silly me, I didn't pay the extra money to get a sign upon delivery because I didn't want to lose any more money.) I also attempt to contact the GM 3 times to see if my claim was received. Finally after hearing back and finding out that it indeed was "lost", I ask for the fax number so that I can fax it over. Oops, they do not have a fax machine. Ok, so I scan everything. They finally get it all. I wait, wait, wait and hear nothing back. I call to speak to the GM and he isn't in the office. I leave a message and hear nothing back. So I decide to contact the GM again via email so that I atleast have a paper trail. I hear back that the "claims department" is still reviewing my case and that I would hear back soon. And I finally did with a letter and a measly check. The letter sates that their company did everything in the power to minimize damage but things happen. Yes, I am aware that things happen...but I am also aware that my family has been able to move across 2 states, twice, and to 4 different houses, using different loaders and this has NEVER happened. So, I not so nicely called and was told that the GM had already left for the day (around 3-4 pm) and that I can leave him a voicemail. I am not pleased with this so I ask if I can have the number to the "claims department." Oh goodness, the lady informed me she didn't have access to that and that only the GM did. So I ask who the owner of the company is and ask for his name/number, and ofcourse she did not have access to that either... but conveniently, the GM just so happens to walk back in at that moment. So I ask him for the claims department number because I want to speak with someone who went over my file. Turns out, he was "one" of the people to do so...so he said I was indeed speaking to someone and that there was no number to give. So I ask him who is above him and he states that the owner is. I ask for the owner's information and am told he cannot give that to me. I am then told by the GM that he "is the company," so basically telling me that I've lost this battle and proving to me that Jay's Moving Co. is as far from professional as possible. I told him that I planned to file a complaint with the BBB and he so happily bragged about their A+ rating (What?! A+...HOW??)? I ended our conversation telling the GM that I was going to do everything in my power to change their A+ rating and that since he "was the company" to have fun running it.
To tell you that I was/am disappointed with Jay's Moving Co is an understatement. I think "disgusted" is the more accurate word. If they respond, they will probably say something about how I didn't get extra insurance and blah, blah, blah... either way, I'm sorry I put my trust and furniture into their hands. read more
