Jay's Steakhouse has become one of our regular spots in FLL--we visit a few times a month, and they consistently take great care of us. The food is always fresh, the drinks are full of flavor, and we've never had an issue with the service. The staff is incredibly accommodating and makes every visit enjoyable. We love having two areas to choose from: the main dining room with live music and entertainment, and the bar side with more tucked-away seating. We've also been enjoying the new sushi menu--it hasn't disappointed! A huge shout-out to John, the manager. We love him! Celebrated my mom's birthday here on a Saturday at 5 pm (your reservation is good for 2 hours) so we unfortunately did not witness the cabaret experience nor live music. It was a bummer but the ambiance was still elegant and being inside a 1920's church made the celebration all the better. We were a party of 5 and ordered a variety of options to share as it was recommended by the server. Sourdough bread was amazing (4 slices though), the creamed spinach was my least favorite but i thoroughly enjoyed the puree (mashed potatoes but even smoother consistency). The lamb skewers are a MUST & the lamb chop meal was appetizing. Also We also ordered the rock shrimp tempura which was delicious & for my drink I got the French Kiss--similar to an Aperol Spritz & it was yummy. I split the skirt steak strips with someone else in my party and it was a good portion, i also tried the vodka pasta which was OK. The lychee martini was strong but good, as well as the 2 Hours to Cancun (tequila cocktail). Overall, we were throughly impressed with the high quality of food & service. Street parking is available close by, there's also a parking garage. The bar was nice and we got a complimentary birthday dessert (chocolate) so that was a nice gesture. Jay's Fort Lauderdale was such a beautiful dining experience! The restaurant is actually a transformed old church, which gives it such a unique and gorgeous atmosphere. My friends and I went for happy hour, and everything was delicious! The food was seasoned to perfection, and the drinks were really good. They have great happy-hour specials, including 50% off the dinner menu from 4-5 PM and a variety of food and drinks for $5 and $1 from 4-7 PM. Everything we tried was so flavorful and well-prepared. I've heard mixed reviews about Jay's, and after stopping in for happy hour, I can see why. It feels like they're trying to be a fancy restaurant, nightclub, and happy hour spot all at once, and the vibe gets a little lost. Personally, I'm not into the club-ish atmosphere and red curtains. It's a beautiful space, but I wish they had kept it feeling a little more elevated. The happy hour deals are good. They have $5 drinks, including martinis, but they are pretty tiny. I wasn't a fan of the rosé, but the margarita was a proper-sized drink and much better. The $1 oysters are also a great deal. The real reason I'd go back, though, is the lamb skewers. If you go early, from 4:00-4:50, you can get half off the full menu, and the skewers were only $12 for two decent-sized portions. Absolutely dream-worthy. A church turned into a restaurant and bar? I couldn't help but wonder if that was a little blasphemous. The venue itself is beautiful, but parking is limited for such a large space. There's no valet, so expect to find paid parking nearby and walk across the street to the restaurant. We came expecting live music based on the schedule posted online, but instead there was a DJ. The manager acknowledged the mix-up and kindly removed our drinks from the bill, which we appreciated. As for the food, it was unfortunately very salty. I ordered the steak with creamed spinach. The steak was cooked perfectly, but both the steak and the spinach were overly seasoned. Our bill would have been around $800 for four people before the drinks were removed, so it's definitely on the pricier side. Overall, it was a nice experience to try once, but between the parking, entertainment mix-up, and food, I don't think it's somewhere I'd return to a second time. I'd give it 3/5 stars. read more

Was perfectly cooked MR, but had not a drop of seasoning. NOT EVEN A SPECK OF SALT!! I returned it, removed it from the check and left. The Burger for $27. Very odd presentation. My friend who ordered it, immediately upon arrival of the burger, said, "Well I'll be stopping at McDonald's on the way home." And isn't that sad Chef of Jays. It's cut in half, then placed on the plate where the inside face of it is face down on the plate, with some mushroom flavored LIQUID of some sort!! Liquid!! So you're picking up wet buns! As if a burger isn't messy enough, they place it in a strange liquid on the plate. The Ugly: As I sat down and said hello, as the bartender was cleaning glasses from the previous people, he does not say hello, smile, ask me for an order, nothing. I had to request that he bring a rag and wipe the water from the bar that was left over. He didn't notice it, so when he gave me a menu, that also got wet. I got a mocktail and finished it. No offer for another drink. No offer for water. I have to ASK for everything I want. That is not service. I asked for the check, as I had to pay for a mocktail and shrimp cocktail. I put my credit card on the bar and he took it. But then he brought back only the check. He did not run my card. Jay's Restaurant really blew me away! I've been to so many restaurants in Fort Lauderdale, and I can honestly say this one is at the top of my list. The burrata salad with pistachios was UNREAL. I'm still thinking about it! Everything we had was so good, but that salad definitely stole the show for me. You can tell there's a lot of thought and care that goes into the food. Also have to give a huge shoutout to the managers Blake and John. They were awesome and made us feel so welcome the entire time. And the chef... unbelievable! We had reservations for a party of 10 to celebrate a birthday and military retirement. This review will be based on my husband & my order & the overall experience. We had a nice table up front near the stage where the band was playing. Our server, Jordan, started off very friendly and took our drink orders. I ordered a glass of Prosecco & my husband ordered the old fashioned which was nicely presented but was on the sweeter side. He decided not to order another one. The server took 4 food orders from our table & then walked away. We got his attention and then he took the rest of the food orders. It seemed as he had forgotten. We started off with the Squash Blossoms, which were not what I was expecting but surprisingly good if you like goat cheese, however they definitely had a thick batter, the opposite of what the menu stated. They were stuffed with goat cheese & had truffle honey drizzle. We each ordered the filet mignon, medium rare, & it was cooked perfectly. We shared the side of mushrooms that nicely complemented the steaks. Overall, everything seemed extremely pricey for what it was but the live band was excellent! They played all kinds of music from different genres, English & Spanish, and did a phenomenal job. At the end when it came to paying the bill is when things got a bit disappointing. Jordan told me that we would have to add up what to charge to each card. He didn't help at all which I would think at a restaurant that pricey the servers would have a good memory of who had what to make it easier. We ate 1 Philly steak sandwich. 2- tempura shrimp 3- truffle. We loved the shrimp that we placed another order. We asked the bartenders about the bill. When they seemed a bit confused we asked for a manager. John appeared & immediately he seemed hostile & very defensive. He stated that ladies drink FREE, his bartenders work hard & ladies don't leave a tip. I said "well we aren't everyone & if a tip is deserved then they will get it. I added how Franco & Mateo were amazing" My friends told him I am a server & this bill is $78 in service charge when the food was $50. John stated the alcohol bill was $300+ & obviously we had too much to drink. I told him "Are you calling us drunk? He said"yes" Let me state no we are not. John continued going back & forth, meanwhile I'm the customer ME' John sagee! ' I stated how I would write my Yelp review and that's when he unprofessionally said "you and your Yelp review can go form yourself!" John stormed away & left while I was speaking. He accused us of attacking him. Not true After he stormed off the bartenders were very apologetic and stated it was not like John to act that way. Mateo & Franco also stated that John was going through a hard time because his wife ended things. I said "that is not our problem or business or anyone else's" We have Mateo our card & he stated "your bill does not exist" of course we questioned it. Mateo said "I cannot charge you because the bill is showing it does not exist John removed it" Of course I had taken a picture of the bill and we left Franco & Mateo a $65 tip. Great steakhouse!! Amazing decor and vibes. Feels very upscale without breaking the bank. Located in a cathedral the restaurant is absolutely stunning. Huge stained windows makes us feel like you are in Chicago. We came here for the Thursday happy hour and it was great. Great selection of food. The burger is 12 dollars and really big. We made reservations the same day for 9pm. It took a few minutes but were seated in a booth near the bar just outside of the main stage area. There was a show going on when we got there and were able to catch glimpses of it. Our waiter Zach seemed like he didn't want to be there at all. We put our drink orders in with him and waited about 20 minutes for those to come out. That's when Zach came back and we were able to put in our apps. They were out of the bone marrow so we got the oysters and meatballs instead and those came out pretty quickly. Zach came back after those came out so we could put our entrees in. We asked him to give us some suggestions as to what sauces/butters went well with the steaks but he was having a hard time. After we put our orders in about 20 minutes later he came back to tell us they were out of the dauphinoise potatoes. A few of us ordered that and when one person said they would sub for truffle fries he assumed everyone else who ordered them wanted that and left without checking. We caught him running by after another 10 minutes and asked him to change the other order to pommes puree. It took another 15 minutes before the food actually came out. We got 3 filets, a New York strip, lamb chops, and rigatoni pasta. One of the filets was super undercooked and she wasn't able to eat it. We had to track down Zach again to ask if they could cook it more but he wasn't really responding. At that point I asked what was going on and why there were so many problems tonight. He immediately went to go get the manager. The manager didn't really ask what was wrong just immediately offered to take $200 off our bill, threw in 2 free desserts and walked away. Our friend still couldn't eat her steak and was starving and so we had to catch Zach again to beg him to just cook it for us because we came to eat food. We've been here before when it was Holly Blue and was sad that it closed. We heard great things about Jays from friends who have been here so we decided to take our son here for his birthday. The inside is beautifully decorated, however the music was a bit too loud. We had to scream at each other just to talk. And the DJ seemed like he had a nervous tick, changing music every few beats. I don't think we heard one full song. He just kept switching the music and the music was all over the place. One second it was old school hip hop, the next it was pop, and then it was reggaeton, and continued in the same fashion. I will say, the wait staff was excellent. They all worked together in unison and we never had to ask for drinks or water refills. They were always on top of it. I heard so much on Yelp about Jay's that I had to try it. So on Jim's birthday we went to church. Jay's replaced Holly Blue, and while the front bar and dining area looked similar, Jay's raised the sanctuary to another level with a huge bar, tables and a cute DJ on the raised altar. It was loud and hard to have a conversation so we were glad to have been seated in the front room. The crowd averaged on the younger side (to us!) looking mostly 25-35. Most were dressed for a night on the town. We had a dozen oysters as appetizers. For entrees the birthday boy chose One Great Burger, an awesome blend of wagyu and bacon. It was accompanied by enough French fries for the whole table. Rick loved his Maine Lobster Risotto. As San Francisco is my home town, and Jay's claims to emulate SF's storied House of Prime Rib, I had to try the City Prime Rib. Just like "The House" it's rolled on a trolley and sliced table-side. It was a perfect medium rare as requested, and very flavorful. Unfortunately the creamed spinach and potatoes were really too salty for my taste, and I couldn't eat them. I was so impressed by J's. This place is beautiful, unique, and definitely one of the standout restaurants I've visited in Fort Lauderdale. The building itself has a story--our server explained that it was originally a church that was moved brick by brick from another part of Fort Lauderdale. It opened just a few months ago as J's. You can truly feel that history in the architecture. One side of the restaurant has a lively entertainment vibe with performances on certain nights, while the other side is calmer and perfect for an intimate date night. I ended up on the quieter side and it was lovely, although I really wish I had visited on a Thursday-Saturday to catch the live shows, because based on other reviews, they know how to put on a whole production. Service was excellent--knowledgeable, warm, and great with recommendations. Now... let's talk about the espresso martini. Hands down the best I've ever had. Perfectly balanced espresso flavor, not too sweet, beautifully layered, and topped with what I think was a French toast cream that just sent it over the edge. It's served in a tall, chilled martini glass and honestly? It's a whole moment. If you order a cocktail here, get that one. I wasn't super hungry that night, so I kept it light with the tuna crispy rice--which was delicious and perfectly textured--and the burrata salad. The tomatoes were surprisingly sweet and everything tasted fresh and bright. My partner ordered the steak topped with crab, and we wrapped up with a classic crème brûlée loaded with real vanilla bean. Everything was well-executed. Overall, J's is picturesque, romantic, and perfect for a date or a night out where you still want great food and ambiance. This has quickly become one of our favorite places in town to take guests because of their wonderful prime rib which everyone orders and loves! But first, a little about the place. Jays is located in an old historic church. If you you know me- you know I love repurposed old buildings and they did a great job with this one (so much nicer than when it was Holly Blue) You are warmly greeted when you walk in and then led to one of the many dining areas. There are a couple of bars one in each room as well. I'm not sure why the outdoor patio place still isn't open but once it does, that will probably be my favorite place to sit. The service is spot on. You can tell that they have done a good job training their staff and the manager always comes by and does a table touch too. Now on to the important part . . .the food! If you like prime rib (and all my midwestern relatives do) this is the place to get it. They wheel the prime rib cart out old skool style and then carve you the regular, mid size or the king's cut. A friend ordered the kings cut once night and I swear that piece of meat was 4 inches wide! The prime rib comes with mashed potatoes and creamed spinach and there is a deal on Wednesday nights as of this writing, where you get a salad, the prime rib and sides and dessert all for $65! Personally, I usually get the new york strip which is equally as tasty and I LOVE their lobster macaroni and cheese as a side. They have plenty of appetizers to start with like the shrimp tempura, tuna crispy rice and odds and end bacon which is just what it sounds like! Dinner with a couple of drinks each runs about $150 a person but for the overall experience and food it was well worth it! We had reservations for a Friday night birthday dinner so getting seated was painless. I must say that I was pleasantly surprised with the fact that they seated us before our entire party was there. Once seated our server Tristian was amazing from beginning to end. He was very patient and recommended a lot of his favorite things on the menu. He even gave us a complimentary tour of the restaurant. Tristan if you ever see this, you were definitely a highlight of the experience. On to the food. I truly expected to be blown away especially for the price. The complimentary bread was delicious and surprisingly crispy. I enjoyed my drink but my husband didn't like his Long Island. The oysters were delicious I wish we ordered more. The lobster mac and cheese was very underwhelming. Again for the price it was not worth it because it felt like they mixed some pasta and cheese and threw some lobster on top. The creamy spinach was super runny. This place has an opportunity to be a 5 but, unfortunately, it doesn't get to that level and there are some things to work on. 1) Was the food good? Yes. But it wasn't as good as the price suggests compared to restaurants of the same price range. Some dishes were fantastic but some were just average. 2) the staff is very nice and accommodating. However, they are not as trained and they do not behave as staff in upper-scale restaurants like this one. Example: Carbone and their staff, or Cipriani and their staff. They aren't bad and they aren't making mistakes, but they do not act like the level of restaurant suggests if that makes sense. 3) Inconsistent portion sizes. Some portions are massive but some are regular sized and it is very unpredictable. I'd rather get better quality smaller-sized portion than an entree sized side. Overall, it was not bad, but I do not see myself coming back because Miami and Ft Lauderdale has a lot of other options and nothing really captured me here to make me want to come back. read more

I'm hesitant on giving this place a higher rating simply because of how expensive the bill came out to be compared to how much I enjoyed the meal. Jay's is located in Fort Lauderdale and there is plenty of street parking nearby but I ended up parking in a lot right next to the restaurant. We visited this restaurant on a Thursday evening around 6:30pm and upon entering, we were greeted by a host who checked us in for our reservation and led us to our table. All the staff were very welcoming and attentive, the ambiance and decor in the restaurant is incredible. It's a very spacious restaurant with lots of seating, and during our visit I spotted at least 3 bars. The music is louder on one side of the restaurant than the other, so if you prefer a more intimate and quiet vibe, you can still enjoy this restaurant. Once we were seated, our server came by with the wine menu and food menu and offered us sparkling or still water; if you want tap water it won't be offered, you have to request it. We did not realize this immediately so we said still and the server brought over a bottle of Saratoga water ($10 each bottle). After a few minutes I had a question about the Dine Out Lauderdale menu and the server said she had to go and confirm that it was possible. She then came back with the menus which is where we ended up ordering from. Initially I went in wanting to order from their happy hour menu, but she informed us that this was only available at the bar. In hindsight I wish I would've done that because I feel like I may have given this restaurant a higher rating. We started by ordering the Latin Medicine cocktail which was one of the best things we ordered. They brought over complimentary bread which was also good, it was a warm & herby sourdough. We placed an order for the Oysters Rockefeller & Rock Shrimp Tempura. I would rate the Oysters a 7 out of 10, but the shrimp was too bready and I was not a huge fan, I would give it a 5.5 out of 10. As we each ordered from the Dine Out Lauderdale menu, two of us ordered the Lobster Oreganata, and one ordered the Caesar salad with no anchovies to start. The lobster was good, but I wish it had a bit more salt/seasoning and I wish it was served with some sort of crostini. We used the leftover of the complimentary bread and it did the trick. The salad was good as well. For the main courses two of us ordered the Prime Rib (1 medium & 1 medium rare) and one ordered the Radiatori Pasta with shrimp (+$14). The medium rare Prime Rib was cooked perfectly, but the medium was definitely overcooked so I would just stick to ordering it medium rare if you go for this option. The flavor of the meat was great, and the sides it came with were good, but I've definitely had better. The pasta was delicious and the added shrimp were massive! I would recommend both of those main dishes when dining here. For dessert two of us ordered the sea salt caramel cheesecake and the last ordered The World's Best Key Lime Pie which definitely was not the world's best. After one bite, she ended up switching it over to the Sea Salt Caramel Cheesecake. If you're a Key Lime Pie connoisseur, I would definitely get another dessert option. We finished off by each ordering the Jay's Tequila Espresso Martini which was definitly overhyped. The presentation was great, and we were anticipating drinking this the whole night, only to be let down because it somehow tasted watery. It was nicely chilled but I think maybe they shocked the espresso too soon after brewing and used too much ice when shaking the drinks. We asked for the bill and the server brought over 3 mini chocolate chip cookies which were warm and chewy. The bill ended up being $430 and a service fee of 20% was applied to the bill automatically. The restaurant has a policy where you cannot split the bills, but you can use multiple cards to pay. Overall, I would say the service is great! From the time we walked in to the time we walked out, the staff was attentive and kind. The food runners also had some conversation with us and it added to the nice ambiance of the restaurant. The restaurant also does not skimp out on portion sizes. Even though we ordered from the Dine Out Lauderdale menu, the portions were as if you ordered from the regular menu which I appreciate, because a lot of restaurants who participate in Miami Spice make the portions smaller for those menus. What makes this a 3 out of 5 for me is that for $430, although we had a full feast, a few of the dishes were not as good as I expected and I would not reorder. I also feel like there were ways we were hustled into spending more money; like with the water, overselling a dish; like the Rock Shrimp Tempura. I would however come back to try their happy hour at the bar. I want to try their Steak Frites special, and I also want to partake in their $5 martinis for ladies night. read more

Top 10 on my list for one of the most memorable restaurants I have been to! We were a group of 8 friends gathering at this unbelievable supper Clubs/Steakhouse to celebrate Karyl's special birthday. No other venue has made anyone feel more special ion their birthday than Jay's. First, the venue is located in what used to be a Church. You could not imagine the intimacy and vivid color streaming through the stained glass window. The bar was hopping and the drinks were flowing during happy hour. We arrived at 5:45pm for a 6:30 pm reservation. Happy hour is between 4 and 7 pm. There is great value during that time. The lights are dimmed and the music is playing and the patrons are humming away. The maître D was nice enough to seat all of us when we came in so we can enjoy happy hour at a comfortable table. We were taken into the dining room where there is an upfront stage for a musical presentation starting at 8 o'clock. David was our waiter. David was probably one of the BEST waiters we have ever had. - personable, completely knowledgeable of the menu and helped us individually and as a group to order appropriately for all to enjoy the highlights of the exquisite menu. He forecasted all our needs and attended to them throughout the night. Nothing was ever an issue. Great service! We totally enjoyed appetizers, salad, and probably the best prime rib prepared table side. This was the butcher cut entree with two sides. It was unreal . Even though the menu said 24 ounces it definitely was more than that. Everybody brought home at least half. Everything was cooked to perfection and very flavorful. Royce, the chef was kind enough to come out and check on everything and introduce himself twice during the meal. He aims for perfection and he got it. Everything was served on a timely basis. And then at 8 o'clock the performance started. This was fabulous. I understand the music and types of acts change regularly at this venue. The tables were all filled at this point and the fashions were classy and elegant. There's no better place to celebrate than here. Now we were up to dessert. Karyl and Dave brought their special coconut cream birthday cake into the venue. But aside from that, the chef prepared the most incredible tray of his specialty desserts for our table. A sparkler was right on top and we all sang happy birthday. What fun! There was cheesecake, chocolate chip, cookies, berries, crème brûlée, and a double chocolate cake. Then they gave us permanent black marker pens to sign the tablecloth with our best wishes for Karyl on her birthday. Karyl took home the tablecloth at the end. I wanted to love this place because Holly Blue was truly one of my favorite spots in Fort Lauderdale and I was devastated to see it go, so I was hoping its successor would be just as good - but I have to say after two trips here I'm not as impressed as I was hoping to be :( I think the ambience in here is great; the space is stunning, and they have every reason for it to be a great spot with the branding they're trying to do - but one of Holly Blue's best features was the gorgeous patio with seating and string lights everywhere, and they don't have any seating outside!! The patio is completely unused and it's a complete waste of a gorgeous space, I hope this is temporary and they have plans for out there because it's a huge portion of the restaurant and it's totally unused right now. My main gripe with this spot is although they're leaning towards a Miami-esque Gatsby approach to their menu, the food is lacking. Everything is pretty pricy which is to be expected for a spot like this, but having dined at nice spots around Fort Lauderdale, the food quality is not up to par. Everything has caviar and truffle on top of it, not because it actually adds to the meal but just because it adds to the price point $$, which reads as tacky when the taste isn't there. The first time I came here we had some beef tartare that was delicious but it seems that isn't on the menu anymore, and my most recent visit I didn't care for any of the appetizers we got and my entree was good but it was a pretty small portion for the price. I loved the dessert we wound up sharing, that Red Velvet cake is a highlight bc it was definitely delicious!! I would love for this spot to improve because I absolutely love the space and I want them to succeed, I just hope they start taking their food quality a bit more seriously if they want to continue at the price point they're operating at because this area is highly competitive and has tons of options for nicer quality restaurants so they're going to need to make adjustments to stay in business. read more

Came on Saturday for a birthday celebration. Street parking was challenging, but there was a paid public lot right next door. The venue is a tastefully decorated, revamped church with beautiful stained glass windows, and the pulpit repurposed as a stage for live entertainment We were immediately greeted and seated when we arrived. Prices were high for the quality of food received. Neither my husband or I are steak or seafood lovers, so most of this menu was unappealing to us, so please keep that in mind. Our entire party ordered mixed drinks, but no one really enjoyed them, though the wine was good. Our waiter was friendly, but definitely wasn't on point. A member of our party was entirely skipped over when ordering, and two dishes were forgotten. Since most of the menu was not to our liking (again, not steak or seafood lovers), I opted for the burger with shoestring fries and my husband ordered the beet salad with a side of asparagus. The burger was very bland, and the fries were limp and soggy (not worth $27). My husband did not enjoy his salad, and was rather disappointed by the size. The asparagus was delicious, however. Those that ordered steak were quite happy, but two steaks first had to go back because they were cooked to the wrong temperature. I was able to try the dine in Lauderdale at Jay's and I was super shocked that it was not busy on a Sunday night. We all had the lobster oregenata for appetizer, prime rib for main and the cheesecake for dessert. I absolutely loved our waitress, Kelsey, who was so sweet and kind. The lobster oregenata was not bad: it was lobster in a creamy sauce which I had no idea what it was just based off the description. The prime rib was seasoned a little too salty on the sides but it was cooked to a perfect medium rare. The sides, creamed spinach and mashed potatoes, were not bad but I think there could have been more spunk to it. I really loved the cheesecake in comparison to the key lime pie which was way sweeter!
