    Its nice to see new businesses opens during this very difficult economic time! Its also nice to see second generation of a well-known and much loved restaurant ( a Vancouver Icon - Sala Thai ) see its second birth ... Food-wise its riding on the now very trendy Asian Fusion wave ... be it Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese and of course here its Thai Fusion ... Personally, I am still more traditional but do appreciate the bravery of todays Chefs, but there are things that do not require or do not go well with being "Fusioned" ... After tasting the items we were presented, I feel that the restaurant needs to re-consider its place in today's very competitive market ... consumers are even more picky and wants both quality & value! When one look at the prices on their menu, one would naturally expect very hight standards ... one example would be their "cocktails" the bar really needs to look at the quality they are pouring out for their customers ... otherwise, they will be hard pressed to maintain any level of sustainable business!

    Lunch time has a lunch service where you would go up to the counter to order anything. I assume it's due to less staff available during the day, but I had no issues with that. Everyone working there was friendly and we had great service. The food portions are on the smaller side, which I expected with the location. However, I felt the appetizer spring roll was a bit too small for one tiger prawn spring roll at $6. It was good, but on the oilier side too. The crispy shrimp wonton was a pass since it barely had any filling. The Pad Thai was a favorite and my kid wanted to eat the whole thing herself. If you can handle a bit of heat I would suggest to add that, but I had to ask for a kid friendly version. The papaya salad was my favorite item, which was refreshingly delicious. It was crispy, not overly sour with the right amount of heat. The spicy drunken noodle has a little kick from the jalapeno even though we asked for mild. I enjoyed this beef dish and it was flavorful. The green curry with chicken was delicious and you can really taste the coconut milk. It was such an extra taste and richness of the cream. This was devoured at our table. The egg on top could have been fried longer. All in all it's 4/5 for food, ambience and service. I'll be back.

    Apparently, this is next generation of the now closed Sala Thai restaurant. The aim of the Jay Nok is to provide a spin and modern update to what used to be Sala Thai. So keep that in mind when you come for a meal here - this won't be the same. However, the first thing that triggered me was the lackadaisical service. The restaurant was not busy and I was left standing awkwardly at the entrance as staff saw me standing there and continued their own conversation. Maybe that's the vibe they're trying to give? Oh, and you get to rock classic Thai pajamas as your uniform- pretty good deal to work here. Food came ridiculously fast. I'm usually not against quick service, but this was borderline suspicious. Like I stated above, this place is not traditional and that was the mistake I made - ordering traditional Thai dishes and expecting the same traditional flavors. Presentation was nicely executed but I found myself missing the classic Thai flavors from what I ordered. Unfortunately this one experience is making it hard to convince myself to come back. The pricing is also a little more than I'd generally expect from what little positives I got from their menu.

    Jay Nok is the offspring of Sala Thai -- one of my all-time favourite restaurants, but unfortunately closed during Covid. It's really hard not to compare the two now that that connection has been made. Jay Nok has a smaller menu and is more of a fast food style kind of restaurant than a fancy sitdown restaurant. Don't get me wrong, the fancy and sit down, still stands, but I do find that it lacks a more complexed menu with more traditional Thai dishes. We also really miss the family styled portion size. The food was great, but the amount was fit for only one adult and not really meant to be shared. Would also like to add that in the items we did order there were a lot more veggies compared to meat. The crispy wonton showed up much smaller than we expected with minimal filling. I would say there is still lots of room for improvement.

    My early birthday celebration took me to Jay Nok Modern Thai, and WOW! The interior aesthetics looks fresh, traditional yet modern Vietnam style. The staff recommended The Adults Only Thai Tea, which was a unique and delicious start. We indulged in Peek Gai Tod (chicken wings), Gong Hom Pha (prawn spring rolls), and the refreshing Central Som Tom (papaya salad). For mains, the Chiang Mai Khao Soi with bone marrow was a revelation, and the Pad Thai Chao Wang was fit for royalty. The Kaow Ob Supparod (pineapple fried rice with snow crab) and Gaeng Ped Yang (duck red curry) completed the perfect meal. Every dish was a work of art! The service was great and attentive. If you love Thai food, you NEED to try this place.

    Jay Nok delivers a refreshing take on Thai. The service is warm and welcoming. It's a bit more expensive than casual Thai, but creativity of the food make it worth going. Try it if you're around the area!

    Came here for lunch and it was an interesting experience. Their lunch hour was "self serve" so you go up to the bar to place the order and you get a number for your table. Worked out well since we had quite a few people. Staff was friendly but it was unclear whether our orders were correct since we were a large group and dishes could have a spice level adjustment. (Most of the table got pad Thai with varying spiciness) They also didn't take the number away after delivering the dish. That was just a bit odd but not a complaint. The food was pretty good although I felt the pad Thai didn't have the same tamarind flavour as other places I've been to. It was a bit too sweet for my liking. Otherwise, well portioned, freshly made, decent price in today's economy. The space was large and spacious. It really lights up beautifully on a sunny day. It was pleasant to sit and chat with others. This was a nice contrast to the establishment that was here before Jay Nok.

    foodie trio back in action another thai venture this time and there's a cute retro vibe as you enter the restaurant. the thai elements are there but there is also an old school arcade machine at one end of the restaurant (near our table ironically lol) a and i obvsly analyzed the menu to the nth degree so we were basically ready to go when our server came over. service is overall good but can get a bit discombobulated when the restaurant got busy. it was hard to get a server at times and drinks took a WHILE to get to your table. drinks-wise - they are strong! i had the put up your dux then the thai-tanic. put up your dux is your typically gin cocktail. i enjoyed thai-tanic but there is a def burn down your throat from the spicy chili! we went all out for food we had the peek gai tod, chicken wings, as our appetizer - they were sizzling hot when they arrived at the table and i almost burned myself. the central som tom (central papaya salad) was refreshing and i love the kick from the chili lime dressing. for mains we had the pad thai chao wang and the pla sam rod. s and i loved the pad thai - the presentation, the perfect sauce-noodle ratio and the taste - all amazing. pla sam rod, 3 flavoured fish, was a sight to behold. it remains me of a shanghaiese dish that involves deep frying a whole fish with a sweet/sour sauce. if you have a large grp, highly recommend!

    Our friend took us here for some Modern Thai food. The services were great from the start We were seated right away. They introduced their modern food style from the menu and off the menu. The place is very welcoming and they happened to have a DJ that night. We had dessert after our meal. It's the best pandan cheese cake I ever had with coconut Ice cream. All the food we ordered was delicious. We will definitely come back here when we are back in town again from Cali

    Hmm been wanting to try this new venture of Sala Thai, and was excited until I found that it just didn't hit the spot at all. Yes it's meant to be a modern taken thai food - and the food wasn't up to scratch for what you're paying at all. I just felt that the authenticity of any dish was taken away and made far too fusionized - noting: you can't make any modifications to your meal... So let's talk about why I'm giving it 2 stars - I walked in and there was noone to seat me for let's say a few minutes, how can it be possible that there is noone at the front of house. Once seated all dandy and got a server, had to flag a person down to order, got our meals and the table didn't have enough space for the food we ordered which was disappointing since I had to figure out the space situation myself. Once we got our meals, we realized that it just didn't taste what we expected and the one I was most disappointed with was the pad see ew - I have no idea why there was such big chunks of short rib on top of noodles and also so difficult to cut and the rib - it wasn't cooked through albeit the noodles were cooked well but they lost me with the flavor profile it totally didn't compliment. I have to say all dishes that came were not hot or once served got cold so fast.. didn't make enjoying the food enjoyable. The duck curry was okay - a lot of veges not much meat, I probably enjoyed the papaya salad the most but it wasn't anything special for what I'm paying for it. We stopped eating for probably 30-45 minutes and throughout that time not one server came to check on us or ask us how we're doing. The music was damn loud and it almost was unbearable as a guest dining trying to catch up with friends. I'm really disappointed that the dining experience was sub par and also service was not good - I honestly wanted to just get out of there based on the headache I was getting from the loud music and the poor service. Would I got back to eat the food or try anything else, somebody needs to convince me hard because I don't think so.

    Taste 3.7/5 The spring rolls were so crispy and the shrimp in them was fantastic, comes in a set of three and I would totally order this again. The chicken wings were good and had a unique flavor of garlic and onion, but not worth "best wings ever" and I'd try something else instead. The Pad Gra Prao, steak and thai basil stir fry, was excellent. Highly recommend upgrading to the coconut rice for that dish. The Pad Thai Chao Wang, Pad Thai From The Palace was good, but I've had better. My favorite part of that dish was the jumbo shrimp on top. Price: 2.0/5 I thought the prices were too high for the small portions. I could taste how fresh and real everything was, but the small portion sizes didn't make up for it. Service: 5.0/5 Servers were kind, nice, and helpful on offering what and how much to order. Vibes/Atmosphere: 5.0/5 Inside is absolutely spectacular and gorgeous.

    Great location, beautiful decor and nice staff. However, the food is VERY EXPENSIVE for what you receive. Papaya Salad is SPICY and it doesn't really say that on the menu. Very small 2.5/5 Pork Jowl Pad Thai 3.5/5 Pork was done nice, but our noodles were over cooked. Chicken Wings- sweet & salty 4/5 Adult Thai ice tea drink 2/5 Has a strong booze taste. Wasn't my favourite cocktail. Crying Beef 2/5 IT'S $48!!!! Not worth the price. The chimmichuri is good, but there isn't enough and then you get a small salad. Pretty sure the name is because you'll be crying once you get your bill. Banana Dessert 4/5 One of my fav thing of the night. Not worth the hype in my opinion.

I actually wanted to keep the cup because it was thick plastic and reusable. Weird that at 5:30, they wouldn't let people sit inside because of reservations. Didn't look full by the time we left either so I think we could have sat inside just fine. Anyway ... I don't think I'll be back.

In particular our group loved the tofu salad. My daughter says it's the best salad she ever had. Ebi fritters were outstanding too. Crunchy and delish but somehow light at the same time. The brussel sprouts were a bit spicy. Spinach Gomae has an amazing flavour. The desserts are great too. The banana mousse in particular was sublime. You can't go wrong here for your next occasion.

Both dishes came with impressive amount of crab chunks. They were very flavorful and delicious. The curry was smooth and went so well with rice. The Pad Kee Mao was very well done too! The noodles were chewy, with layers of tastes - savory and herbal (lemongrass/ lemon leaves?) and it has wok hei too! Service was good. Servers were helpful and friendly! The taste and portion was good for the money. The only down side is that there's no free parking around the area. If parking is easier, I would go there more often!

The chicken wings should be called crack wings HIGHLY addictive. The deep-fried squid is prepared the same way as the chicken wings, and the calamari was amazingly tender. The Butter beef was simply fantastic, with flavors that balanced sweetness and saltiness perfectly, topped with delicious accompaniments. I wish the pea shoots had a bit more flavor, but they were cooked just right tender with a satisfying crunch, not overdone. Overall I give this experience 5/5!!
