Serving Colectivo coffee and Milwaukee Urbal teas

This is version 4.0 for Java Hut. The hut has been around for 20+ years and this is the 4th owner. For gluten free people or those looking for paleo type cooking, Java Hut is a bookmark for you. I met the owner Colleen and she described her cafe as coming home feel good wholesome cooking. I describe it as highest quality organic, locally sourced almost paleo menu. For example, the turkey breast is local with free range and no additives and organic. I had the turkey cranberry melt with sweet potato, homemade cranberry sauce walnuts on a whole grain bread that was toasted. The flavor of the homemade roasted sweet potato and tart cranberry sauce with the turkey was amazing. The cranberry sauce reminded me of my mothers cranberry sauce at thanksgiving. My wife had the same sandwich but on gluten free bread (additional charge) mine was $8.50 and included chips and pickle. That is value! They serve Colectivo coffee and I had the blue healer. My wife had the tai chi tea. Another sign of quality, they use Sassy Cow milk and creamer. Colleen was accommodating with everything and took great care to prepare my wife's gluten free meal to not have cross contamination. Atmosphere: 5 stars Quality: 5 stars Value: 5 stars Service: 5 stars

This is Colectivo's Blue Heeler. Super good bold coffee.

Lots of room inside: seating in the front on the lower level, more seating up a short set of stairs (where they have board games like chess and checkers), and another room in the back that can be reserved for groups (not sure if there's a cost). We arrived a little after noon. There were a few other people there. We waited a little while to place our order. The cashier/barista apologized several times as they were preparing other people's orders. Once it was our turn, we got a warm greeting and plenty of help with our menu questions. Lots of nice choices for beverages and sandwiches. We ended up with a couple of chai drinks (one hot, one cold), a grilled cheese sandwich, and a chicken salad croissant. Then we waited... and waited... and waited some more. It took quite a while to get the drinks and the croissant sandwich. Then it took another long while to get the grilled cheese. At one point I asked if they were still working on it (it had been so long that I thought they might have forgotten). They apologized again and explained that the griddle they were using (a panini press) just takes forever. We weren't in a hurry, but I noticed some other customers who were visibly upset. The Chai Latte was excellent, as was the Harvest Chai (an ice cream drink). The Chicken Salad Croissant was also very good -- fresh, with a good amount of chicken and not too much mayonnaise. Nice, crispy textures. The Grilled Cheese was good, but the bread wasn't very "grilled" (maybe a limitation of the panini press?). We didn't get dessert, but they offered a few small samples of the Chocolate Shoppe ice cream -- very tasty. Lots to like about this place, but the wait times were way too long. :(

The vegetarian quiche available when I was there was pepper-jack...awfully tasty and a good-sized slice too. You order at the counter and find a table. We were there with about 6 people and, although it was fairly busy, it didn't take long (on a late Wednesday morning) for us to find a place for all of us. They've got couches and comfy chairs, as well as regular tables and chairs for a more traditional dining experience. We dug the atmosphere and overall local vibe of the place. They're coffees and things that go in the coffees (milks and honey) are locally sourced, so a good amount of thought goes into what goes into what they're serving you. We'd definitely go again!

Inside, there are numerous seating areas for different-sized groups, spread across several "rooms" that give you a sense of privacy. Large front windows let in plenty of natural light, making the space feel open and bright. We arrived right around noon, just as the lunch crowd was filling in. There was a short line that moved quickly. Service was friendly and helpful while we placed our order. We decided on the Brie Salad and the Avocado Toast, along with a Lemonade and a London Fog Tea Latte. I gave them my special instructions for the latte (a little lavender, a little vanilla, extra foam, in a mug), and they were happy to make it exactly as requested. Orders come with a number, and the staff delivers your food right to your table. The wait was short before our food arrived, and the entire meal was excellent. My Avocado Toast was a treat -- layered with toast, cream cheese (yes, cream cheese!), avocado, and feta on top. It was so good as is, but next time I'll ask if they can add a poached egg on top -- that would make it even more amazing. A great first-time experience here. I'd definitely come back for breakfast (or maybe try another lunch).
