I had some time to kill while waiting to pick up someone, I was in town visiting from CA and thought, I really need caffeine. Yelped a few places that were close to where I was and this one popped up. Super cute little place, I could have purchased way too much. They have lots of fresh coffee, beans and espresso beans and honey and all sorts of goodies, so I check out the menu and immediately focus in on the Montecristo. I haven't had one in quite a while so I thought you know what, why not, I'll take the Montecristo and I'll also try a piece of coffee cake sitting in the display case amongst lots of goodies and a large dirty chai tea. Dirty Chai came with 4 shots of espresso, which is exactly what I needed. It came relatively fast along with a warm coffee cake. Chai tea wasn't your classic chai with cardamom and all the other spices and herbs in it but it was pretty good. It was strong and hot, it was cold out and it hit the spot. Coffee cake was absolutely amazing, super moist and buttery cinnamon crumb was nice and thick, this was on point and I loved it. Sandwich took a bit of time, actually thought they forgot about it. But it finally made its way to my table. OK . . . so I have never seen a Monte Cristo sandwich prepared like this one, I'm use to it having Mayo, Dijon Mustard, red current or raspberry jam and dusted with powdered sugar. As you can see from the photo, it wasn't "dolled up" nor pretty and it was served with a side of maple syrup. I have to admit, I was taken aback, but put a lil maple syrup on top and sliced into it, huh ok well that's not bad, a lil different, but very tasty. Instead of Mayo/Mustard I think it was Cream Cheese? Bread was a lightly dipped French Toast this is where the Maple Syrup came into play. I had a few bites, but took it to go. Came back at it the next day after heating it up in the microwave, again just a drizzle of maple syrup and finally decided, wow this is actually pretty darn good. My ONLY suggestion, the inside needed to be hotter so the cheese would be melted and gooey however, I understand that probably would be harder to achieve with the cream cheese. Love that they serve Collectivo coffee! And the Cinnamon muffin was delightful. There were a ton of people there, so a bit of a wait. But I'm guessing the Halloween Parade was the reason!! Can't say that this is place I'd go to sip and study- but I will stop and grab coffee to go! read more

Outstanding homemade baked goods, and Alterra coffee. The atmosphere is homey, and comfortable. It's not Starbucks, and does not try to be. If you want leather chairs and pre-made baked goods, than this is not the place. Colleen and Jeff run the place, and regulars and newcomers alike are treated like they have been coming there for years. Saturdays they have a singer that plays from 9:30 to 11:30 and while I have been to plenty of places where the music is loud and distracting, this is not one of them. The baked goods are amazing! The donut muffins should be considered a controlled substance, they are that addictive! Overall this has become one of mine and my fiancee' s favorite places to be. Do yourself a favor, and stop in. This is version 4.0 for Java Hut. The hut has been around for 20+ years and this is the 4th owner. For gluten free people or those looking for paleo type cooking, Java Hut is a bookmark for you. I met the owner Colleen and she described her cafe as coming home feel good wholesome cooking. I describe it as highest quality organic, locally sourced almost paleo menu. For example, the turkey breast is local with free range and no additives and organic. I had the turkey cranberry melt with sweet potato, homemade cranberry sauce walnuts on a whole grain bread that was toasted. The flavor of the homemade roasted sweet potato and tart cranberry sauce with the turkey was amazing. The cranberry sauce reminded me of my mothers cranberry sauce at thanksgiving. My wife had the same sandwich but on gluten free bread (additional charge) mine was $8.50 and included chips and pickle. That is value! They serve Colectivo coffee and I had the blue healer. My wife had the tai chi tea. Another sign of quality, they use Sassy Cow milk and creamer. Colleen was accommodating with everything and took great care to prepare my wife's gluten free meal to not have cross contamination. I love this place. The inside is nice and cozy and quiet. Everyone that works there are so nice and helpful. The food is excellent and they have Colectivo brand coffee which is fantastic and is so much better than Starbucks. I recently bought a french press and a grinder and they sell the coffee by the pound with roast dates on them. I highly recommend this place for a morning or afternoon brew or just to pick up a bag to go. read more

If I had to summarize my feelings about the Java Hut, it would sound something like this: Java Hut feels like the kind of place you can go after a few visits and tell Colleen you want "the usual." It's a family owned business that will make you feel like part of the family. They have a huge community following, and there are good reasons why. My favorite thing on the menu is the Elvis, a peanut butter, banana and bacon sandwich on homemade cinnamon raisin toast topped with whipped cream. Ridiculously good. The coffee is Alterra, and you can buy it by the pound or take a hot cup with you. All in all, this is a good hometown coffee shop doing well in the battle against Starbucks and other giants that make the coffee industry so competitive. I have been coming to Java Hut for a long time now. I love the coffee, the food, the conversation, et al. One feels welcome here. Colleen always has something new to share with us in the bakery department and it is always good. Java Hut is really a neighborhood hot spot with lots of good food. I came here today on a whim after driving by several times and wanting to check it out. I'm a huge fan of Roots and wanted to give another place a try. My first impression of the place, even though it was completely empty, was that it had a nice, homey vibe. I ordered an iced green tea and the recommended turkey cranberry sandwich. I sat down and started working on my laptop when the waitress came and brought my drink and sandwich. My iced green tea turned out to be just plain old iced tea and my sandwich was less than impressive. The bread looked like cheap multigrain bread I buy from the store and the sweet potato (I think that's what it was) on it was undercooked. The napkins also looked like they were bought at the dollar store. I would have said something about my tea to someone but the workers went back into the kitchen to gossip and were never to be seen again. I've waitresses for several years and I found it surprising that me being the only customer in the place, I was never greeted when I walked in, asked how everything was, and they never said anything when I left. The two workers that were there just sat back in the kitchen the entire time. The baked goods on the counter looked pretty good, but unfortunately my poor experience will not have me coming back. I ordered the same thing here that I usually get at Roots and the price was about 35% less and I received larger portions. The one drawback is that the cafe was a bit too cold (winter) and we had to keep our jackets on the entire time. Other than that, very friendly staff and great food, highly recommend. read more

Dexter P is obviously a bogus person. Only one review ever written on yelp with no friends on yelp. And obviously his "review" is exactly opposite of all the real reviews. I hope yelp recognizes the falseness of this "person" and their "review" and removes it. I am a regular customer and Java Hut has posted hours that are always consistent. No employees, or the owners, are ever unaccepting of others opinions/beliefs/views (therefore obviously not bigots). The fact that false, slanderous words are used in his comment should be enough for anyone to disregard it. And more than enough for yelp to realize it should be removed. I am a concerned customer and an personally taking action to try to get yelp to correct this.
