I love this random little hut! I know most people are reviewing it for their coffee, but I want to give them a shout out for their amazing smoothies! My family goes on an annual trip up to Oregon every year, and this little gem is a regular stop for us. You must try their smoothies! My sister loves the raspberry, and I love the strawberry. We only get this twice a year (once on the way up to OR, and once on the way home), and they are delicious every time! This is one of the very few times I get anything with whipped cream, too--they make some delicious whip! Can't wait to go back! read more

This is a stop I make pretty much every day when I am visiting CC. As Kyle knows, my favorite drink is the vanilla blended chai with extra nutmeg; I have yet to find another establishment that makes them as good as Java Hut does! When I lived here, I got a variety of drinks and they are all delicious. Definitely a higher quality coffee than what you'll receive from across the street. I like this place. It's hard to find on a rainy dark evening but worth the look. Small place with comfortable seating, music in the background (but not to loud) and friendly staff. It is a small place though, I could see it filling up quickly. The coffee is good, not excellent, but better than the commercial chain across the street. I prefer to frequent local places whenever possible but won't go to one if the coffee isn't good. Nice selection of munchies. Please read this review all the way through! Lattes are very good, ice caps are most excellent with everything....but my daughter had a problem with her drink, she told them no chocolate in the drink, they did put chocolate in and she returned it and they remade it, no problem right....she got back into the truck and took a drink and remarked how terrible the drink was, my other daughter took the drink back into the Java Hut to replace the drink, she got back into the truck and told us they would not redo the drink because they had already replaced the first drink( the drink they messed up ) I told my daughter to just go ahead and drink it, she told me to take a drink of it... Wow it was terrible, tasted very powdery. Well I took it into the hut and they tried to explain to me why it tasted so terrible. That's fine, I would like to reorder the drink for my daughter. She told me that they have already made the drink once and that would be 10 bucks that they would lose ( more like 75 cent in product ) So I said that the drink is terrible and I would like to return it. Again she try to explain to me why it tasted so terrible. I finally ask, so your not going to return this drink? She said NO I'm not. WOW.... this is the down side to a mom and pop shop, not much customer service. When the time came for this business to shine the service just flew out the window, after one replacement that they missed up on it was no longer about the customer. Next time through town I will stop by Starbucks right across the street knowing if I ever have a problem with the drink or service they will "make it right" There is a bright side to the Java Hut, north a few miles up is another Java Hut, we pulled in and explained our dismay and dilemma with Madison, WOW what a gem of a employee, she remade the drink for us and it was fantastic!!!! So next time I'm traveling through Smith river I will make it a point to stop by this Java Hut and buy a cup of deliciousness from them because this Java Hut believes in customer service. I go here multiple times a week because I get my two children child's size hot chocolates. lol. THEY LOVE THEM!!! The mesican hot chocolate is what I usually get because I don't really like any of the chai's they offer, which is like, 4 varieties. The service is mostly good but is still a hit or miss and is pretty much my only issue with this place. There are 2 young girls, one is blonde, the other is asian and they are soo sweet and I love it when they help us. The wait time is non-existent. This spot was a great surprise! Placed in the middle of a parking lot in Crescent City this cafe is cozy and has very good coffee. The staff was young and very friendly. Great little unexpected coffee shack that was a lifesaver in the evening because it was open until 10pm! We had been traveling all day and needed signal to download maps and info for our road trip. The fires in Southern Oregon had changed lots of campers plans and made available campsites very difficult to come by during the summer season. We had stopped by 4 or 5 different campsites that were full by the time we arrived at the site. A lot of campsites have a few sites that are reservable online, but mainly have first come first serve when the sites turn over at 11am or whenever guests leave their site. The Barista lived in the area and had lots of great suggestions for camping sites only locals would know. She also suggested to visit two areas of the Redwood Forest with the oldest trees, 1000 years old or older! We were pleasantly impressed and so grateful for the recommendations! read more

I enjoy Java Hut 99% of the time. Java Hut has been my go-to coffee place since it's opened years ago. I love the variety of drink options, the friendliness of the staff, the timeliness of the orders and the overall environment. I consider it one of our local treasures. However, I find myself going at certain days of week or time of day only because I know a particular staff member will be working and I like consistency. Too many times have my drink order been wrong, my drink luke warm, or the prices inconsistent. I think this may be to new owners and staff over the year, but I think more consistency would be nice. Before I met my husband (from Santa Monica) I drank Folgers coffee and was fine with it. My husband who LOVES coffee converted me. I don't think I am a coffee snob - although we do live in Seattle. It is rare that I cannot drink the cup of coffee that I've purchased. As my husband told me, I have a higher tolerance for bad coffee than he does. We both ordered non-fat latte's Saturday morning. Mine was so bad I did not finish it. It was one of the worst cups of coffee I've ever had. My husband's coffee did not taste as bad. While everyone is entitled to making a bad cup of coffee once in a while, you are not entitled when it is your business, when that's all you do. If we lived locally I would have gone back to complain. By the time I took the first swallow we were miles away with a long trip ahead and too late to turn back. read more

If ever back in town or near Crescent City I would detour to go back to THIS stand (assuming it's still open, as they are that great) I regret NOT getting a second espresso before leaving town, but two drinks within 3 hours would have been a bit much before getting on the road. read more

I would not listen to any of these reviews saying to go to Starbucks or Dutch Bro's over this great local place. That is a ridiculous statement from people without taste. The drinks here are great and staff is always friendly besides one time the girl was very rude after being slammed by many people in the drive thru back to back and having us walk in, i heard her say "are you kidding me" very loudly when we walked in and We walked out immediately, that girl doesn't seem work there anymore. They hire high schoolers so obviously you get what comes from those in that age bracket but their behavior is on them, there usually doesn't seem to be any older workers there to keep them in line. read more

Cute, cozy little place. Good coffee, BUT since this is not just a drive-up coffee kiosk (there's a nice little sit-down space with about a half-dozen tables), they should have a restroom! I needed to use a restroom and was directed to the fairground facility about a block away -- in the rain! -- only to find the restroom locked. Upon my return, I was informed that they used to have a key but don't anymore... When I suggested that they just let me use the facility that the employees use, they said that would be "against the health code"... Isn't there a code -- if not legal at least moral -- that requires a restaurant to have a restroom facility for their customers? read more
