I popped in here to get an iced latte before heading to the Pyrex and vintage festival. I ordered a sweetened iced latte and the woman looked at me like I was crazy because I did not ask for one of the thousand flavors they've got in stock. She didn't have simple syrup or plain sweetener for iced beverages, so she put some sugar packets into the hot espresso before pouring it over the ice. It got the job done! read more

Really weird experience here. When I came in on a Monday afternoon, there was no one in sight. I waited a few minutes and then said "hello? hello??" Normally I would have left, but I had promised I'd return with coffee, so I waited. Finally, a man appeared from the back without acknowledging that I'd obviously been there for some time. Anyway, he seemed annoyed by my questions about the different flavors and drinks and unwilling to tell me what went in to the smoothies and blended coffees. As I don't consume milk or cream, I was trying to make sure it wasn't included, and he was being very vague. They do offer soy milk though. My boyfriend really enjoyed his mocha blended coffee (although we have no clue what was in it) but my strawberry banana smoothie was gross. It tasted like artificial sweetener and I'm pretty sure he forgot the banana. It was really weird that the more I tried to watch what he was putting in the drinks, the more he attempted to hide what was going on. Drinks were $4.50 each which I guess is about average. read more

A trip to Havre de Grace is not complete unless a stop to Java by the Bay is included. Going to Java by the Bay is an enjoyable experience itself. The shop is inviting and the friendly atmosphere shared by the owners as well and the customers is so personable. We have met other customers and shared conversations with them and had many laughs. The owners, Ron and Helen, are very kind and make the visit more like stopping in to see old friends rather than just stopping to get a refreshment. We have tried many different coffees and refreshment drinks and pastries at Java and found all to be especially tasty. (The coconut drink is a real treat.) We stopped in for a quick drink after being drawn inside by the amazing smell. Cute little cafe and gift shop to sit and relax in while taking a break from shopping. We both had frozen coffees (one flavored with almond) that were way better than you'd get at Starbucks (but more expensive at $6/piece). Nice atmosphere and good coffee. A very relaxed location frequented by the HdG locals. However, this isn't the kind of coffee shop to retreat to with your laptop to get a few hours of work done. New people bought this place. We stopped off on our way from DC to Philly. This coffee probably one of the best cups I've had. I had a double espresso (which I think was really a triple) and my husband had a cappuccino. We sat for awhile and just relaxed. They sell a bunch of really neat take home items (cups, books, etc). They sell a ton of beans and had we not been on a road trip I would have bought some. If I find myself back in this town is definitely stop in again. read more

This place is really cute. They have their own selection of whole beans in the back for sale and the coffee is made to order. I got a cappuccino and a muffin when I was here. The cappuccino was good, but the muffin was ehh. The muffin I originally wanted was sold out so I got the cranapple muffin instead. They serve the muffins warmed up (microwaved). This lead to it being pretty soggy. My boyfriend and I took a few bites but couldn't finish since it just fell apart. Prices are reasonable. I'd like to try some more of their coffee next time. read more

I am not impressed by this place. They gave my sister the wrong change back, they took 15-20 minutes to make 3 drinks, and it didn't seem like they cared about us at all. I am not impressed. Stopped in for coffee break on a long ride. The owners are super friendly: they even put a candle in a muffin and sang when I mentioned it was my daughter's birthday. The shop is super cozy and quaint. Great coffees, smoothies, and baked goods, plus some packaged oatmeal, cereal, etc, (which can be helpful if you have a particularly picky kid). Stopped by while shopping on main st in Havre de Grace. This place smelled amazing and was super cute! There were alot of different flavors and choices for my coffee and it tasted great once I chose. We just visited 2 days ago and I fell across this review when I was looking for an address to pass on to a friend. I certainly can't agree with the earlier review! When we visited, the fellow was quite courteous and efficient. The smell of the place was amazing! We have just started a relationship wtih the city of Havre de Grace and will be visiting often ... probably starting each visit at Java by the Bay. read more
