Hi I've been coming to eat at pureto Nuevo my whole life, been to every restaurant with my family but this specific spot found about 4 years ago and never stopped coming back since, it has 4 levels and there's always parking. The top floor view is amazing and I recently learnt last time I went they are going to be adding a habachi like the pink floor has always been my favorite to eat on the let u bring your own bottle and smoke your own weed while u wait for it food and drinks, if u also want the mariachi comes and can sing songs for you as well. Also on the way to eat on the road the ramos was 88$ so definitely get one read more

We were passing by puerto Nuevo. Asking for recommendations to eat lobster. Young man offered us free guacamole and other places to visit. We just wanted lobster. We came, very secluded place, looked lonely. But once we got there, immediate attention and food was top tier. Service was amazing. Would come back 100 times more. Highly recommend! I'll point out the positives first. Servers are attentive and courteous. They really try to make you feel welcomed, so much so that there is a guy waving your vehicle down to follow him for the lobster special. They have a secured parking spot which is great. The view from the rooftop is magnificent as this restaurant sits higher than many, and you get a great ocean view. Now onto the negatives. The lobster must have been frozen and boiled. It was tough, overcooked, tiny, and tasteless. There was only a tiny bit of butter that was not enough. The food took forever to cook, as in over an hour, and they came out at very different times so we cannot all eat together. If you wait the food will be cold. I don't mind waiting over an hour, but there wasn't another customer there. There are so many options in town, this is not the one. Visited Puerto Nuevo on a Friday night and was approached near the main entrance to the port by who we later found out to be the owner offering us a special that was hard to beat. For two people it included 2 lobsters w/rice, beans, tortilla seafood soups and two margaritas for 590 pesos or $29.95 dollars. We ended up ordering two of these specials as there were 4 of us. I was reluctant at first as I don't like to deviate from my tried and tru spot but I couldn't resist the opportunity to save over 3x's from what we usually spend to eat here. I agreed to his offer and followed him to his restaurant. We parked in a stall underneath the restaurant. The restaurant is huge. 3 levels including a rooftop outdoor patio. Capacity seems to be in the hundreds. He sat us on the first level. We were the only ones in there. That was the first red flag. The second red flag was that the place looked rundown. It has lots of potential and I could easily tell this must have been a popular place at some point with a huge seating capacity. The owner stated that the restaurant had been closed for 10 years and it had previously belonged to his grandmother. Our server was a 14 year old boy that was inexperienced. He was courteous and tried his best to cater to our needs but it took about 45 minutes to get served. Part of the special included seafood tortilla soups for 5 of us. It was tasty but my wife found a rubber band piece in her soup. Probably from the one holding the cilantro together. The lobster had really dark almost black browning. Indicative of old or heavily used cooking oil. Lard in this case. And it also tasted of old burnt oil. The dipping butter seemed to be diluted with oil. Tortillas were pretty standard as you would expect in Puerto Nuevo. Beans were sub par and rice was hard. Overall the meal was not what we were used to. The music playing was making startling loud popping noises and he had to turn it off and resort to continue playing on a portable speaker. I couldn't tell but it seemed like the owner was preparing the meal as we didn't see him until after we were served when he sat down near by until we were done eating. I feel bad leaving this review as the owner was really nice. But I have to be honest as I come to yelp for direction on places to eat at. It seemed to me that he has control of this restaurant now that was once hustling and bustling but he is just trying to get by without putting the effort to bring it back. It's a shame as I feel this spot could be huge and make a comeback under the right management. If price is your priority, you don't care for quality and don't mind the not so great service, then this is the place for you. read more

Stumbled upon this place because it was the only place open and I'm so glad we did!! We told the staff we were celebrating my birthday and they were so sweet and generous. Their lobster deal is amazing!! You get 4 lobster halves, rice, beans, soup, and a margarita for only $18!! They gave us multiple rounds of free shots and also let us taste a private reserve wine. They really made my birthday dinner a wonderful experience. If you enjoy delicious lobster, yummy drinks, and wonderful service, you have to try this spot. read more

The food here is excellent. The lobster is fresh, the tortillas are homemade deliciousness, but the butter they have here is the BEST! Most of the places in Puerto Nuevo serve the lobster with regular butter. Isaac and the staff here at Jatay definitely went above and beyond with their delicious butter. Puerto Nuevo #1 was my family's go-to spot. But now, it's Jatay. Back in March, I visited this place 3 times!! Couldn't get enough! Definitely worth the drive! This place from the beginning was bad vibes. The guy said his grandma owned it and it was amazing, so me and my family thought we'd give them a try. We got to the location and the building was falling apart. There were no customers but 2 girls that probably got tricked into eating here too. We sat down and they gave us 2 wrinkled up menus that we can barely read. Ordered the special to feed my family and not only did it come hour later. Food was cold and under cooked. Steak for nephew was raw had to send it back. We had to ask for butter for lobster and they gave us 1 for me when our party of almost 15. We all had lobster, I felt so bad. They didn't have enough food for deal. Everyone was mad for nieces birthday. They didn't wanna honor their pricing from the beginning. They had to get horchata from mini mart down street bc there was none. This restaurant should be shut down! We told them about poor service and etc for some sort discount for dissatisfaction. Got into an argument, threaten my family and locked us in the building bc we said we were going to walk out. We saw a cockroach running thru the kitchen while arguing about dinner. We paid bill while arguing with workers with our kids and had to make them open front door. Super scam restaurant, I don't even think it's a real restaurant anymore. I give this place a 1 but if we could give negatives it would be -5. Me and my family will forever live we this horrific memory of my nieces birthday. We were the only customers in the whole place a party of 8. Took them over an hour to get our food out.. I almost wish they had never brought it out. The best part was the bottled cokes. We ordered chicken nuggets these were refried with fish oil and fries were soggy not crispy, lobster ranchera looked awful and tasted old and like vomit, the beans and clam chowder were cold they had to reheat... The mojarras tasted old and bland, mariscos soup was bland and the lobster that was in there was just the shell no meat. This place has probably seen its better days. read more

After walking out from Ortegas patio not because of the food but because of the service ,we stumbled across this restaurant that could be easily missed . Disclosure- If you're into the ocean view while you eat, this is not you're restaurant, if you want some good food then keep on reading .... We ordered six "small" lobsters ;we were contemplating if we "serious lobster lovers" should have gone for the "medium". But I think 3halves is enough for 1 person ----So the deal was: for 20dlls we would get 3 halves of lobster, sides of rice , beans, ofcourse the chips and salsa, garlic butter, tortilla soup and gigantic freshly hand made flour tortillas and a free Margarita. The service was incredible; friendly and super efficient. The feeling of warmth, happiness and gratitude runith over inside. The first to arrive was some complimentary ceviche that the owner brought us as an appetizer, it was AMAZING!!! You could taste the freshness, eventhough I was not there for the ceviche, it has to be one of the best ceviches I have ever tried! (Next time I come , I will make sure to order some along with my lobster) The beer that is sold here was soooooo cold, it went down so smooth. Loved it. Next was the tortilla soup was Delicious, that's all I can say. The lobsters white meat was cooked perfectly and flowed bountiful over the bright red shell. Every single bite was scrumptious and divine; so much so the dipping butter was hardly necessary. Lobster and fresh hand made tortillas - two of my favorite things. This place was outstanding in every way and the food was epic. It's worth even a day trip from Southern California if you want to road trip an hour or so from the border and have a really special although simplistic meal. Did I mention that they have the coldest beer? I definitely will be back!! And just to be fair .....I like to point out the things that need improvement . *The Margaritas were not as tasty as other local restaurants in Puerto nuevo. *We were not fans of the pink chairs tables, maybe a more rustic look better. * it's hard to find this restaurant because the restaurant sign is not very visible , unless you walk looking up all the time. read more

We had a terrific dinner there. We had met the owner the day before and he raved about his ceviche and he was not wrong. The prices were definitely the most reasonable in town but this wasn't why we ate there. The food was outstanding. This place is hard to find but well worth it. read more

originally came for Ortegas. unfortunately they were closed but a big man and a little guy were standing in the middle of the road signaling for us to try out their restaurant. we decided to stop by after they explained their lobster special and already drove from rosarito . firstly , we sat down and the waiter didnt even take down half our group's order . we had to remind him after about 15 mins of waiting. they brought chips and salsa and the chips were burnt, salsa had no flavor. we waited about an additional 30-45 mins and began to get impatient, even offered to help out in the kitchen if they had one staff member working . they eventually brought out their tortilla soup which had the same burnt chips tossed inside w some cheese. not good. food started to come out, almost 1 1/2 hours after sitting down. aguachile smelled very fresh upon being brought out. had a good flavor . i had ordered camarones a la diabla , which tasted almost as if they burned the peppers before blending into a sauce, lacked flavor. the rice was not good , and beans were tasteless . we ordered chicken nuggets which tasted as if it were burnt cardboard. the lobster special was not good, even that tasted burnt! they also forgot to enter two of our groups order. we decided to cancel the other orders because of how long we had already waited . the waiter even grabbed a menu and handed it to us as if we were supposed to show him again what we ordered . one order was a lobster special but we explained they took far too long and we did not want . the big man from earlier had came out and offered to remove the chicken nuggets, and as we stated we no longer wanted the lobster , the big man told us he was going to make the waiter pay for it and walked off. the waiter turned red and hit a chair while walking away . making the rest of us feel uncomfortable, they brought the checks out and we paid and left . read more

Wow! Talk about hospitality and good food. The beans and rice are a new best for us. The most delicious lobster we've had here yet and we've had a few! It's family owned, fifth generation! The owner had a shot with us at our table. Don't let the outdated decor fool you, the food is phenomenal and the price can't be beat! We had the Three Amigos and Mango Margaritas. Honestly the best restaurant in puerto nuevo. The food is amazing with great flavor. As for the service, this is by far the best service I have ever received both in the states and in Mexico! This is a family ran business (wife/husband cook/serve, sister in law serves and children also help out). The owners are so attentive and super sweet. As you drive into Puerto Nuevo you have people trying to get you to come eat at the restaurants, telling you their specials and most of these are for the well known restaurants that are on the main corners but we've tried the majority of those and nothing compares to this place! The flavor of the food is unbelievable. So, next time you are out there if you want great quality food and amazing service I suggest you skip the well known restaurants and give this place a try!
