After coming here for 25 years I can't believe I am just now writing a review. That being said, decades ago this review would have been a strong 5 stars but now we are teetering on a high three, low four. The pricing has become ridiculous for this little lobster village. You're no longer getting a deal but you're paying for the view, the vibe, and the fact that you pinch yourself and say to yourself, "I'm only about an hour from home." Now that's pretty cool. The lobster still holds up and when dipped in the clarified butter with those homemade tortillas and refried beans/rice, you have to simply savor the moment. It's delicious. My first time place looks over crowded and hard to get but the was a valet parking area easy. Once we going in the is more than plenty of tables overlooking the ocean with a great view. There is live music going in the background and a great atmosphere. The waiter we did get was not good at explaining how the lobster plates were served or what should we order for 2 ppl. When the food came out even thought it was not as much as expected it was delicious. Lobster was cooked to perfection the beans and handmade flour tortillas amazing. Open later than most in Puerto Nuevo. They do not take Credit card which is fine. Service is kind and welcoming with lots of seating options. Friday ditch day but in the best way. Took the niece and nephew on a foodie field trip to Villa Ortega in Puerto Nuevo, and let me tell you--it was a full-on seafood fiesta with a mezcal chaser. I started with a Mezcalito de Jamaica (aka smoky hibiscus magic in a glass) and dove into the aguachile verde, which was so fresh it practically slapped me with a lime. My niece leveled up with a strawberry margarita and shrimp ceviche served inside an actual half pineapple--because when your plate doubles as tropical décor, you know you're winning. My nephew kept it bold with a Mezcalito de Piña and the aguachile rojo, which was good... but sorry kid, verde over rojo all day. The views? Stunning. The vibe? Rustic coastal charm that makes you want to sip slower and stay longer. It was a Friday afternoon so it wasn't busy but as we were leaving the weekend crowd had begun to arrive and it was on!!! Wifey and I went to this restaurant for Valentine's Day 2025 and it was our Anniversary also. It was our first time at this restaurant and we came because we got recommendations from everyone in Los Angeles we know. This place did not disappoint. Upon arrival you are bombarded with this amazing smell of delicious food. The decor and the ambience of the restaurant is pretty cool. I like a lot of the statues they have made of wood that depicts different character characters. Our server was really nice and patient with us because we had a difficult time knowing the prices compared to US and pesos. The food was delicious. My wife had the salmon and I had the ribeye steak. Wife wanted crab legs, but unfortunately, we could not find crab legs anywhere in Rosarito. My steak was perfect cooked perfectly tasted great. My wife loves her salmon. The best thing the beans and rice the best rice and beans I've ever had in my entire life. Amazing. If you talk of Puerto Nuevo and lobsters, the first name that comes up is, Villa Ortega's. It is a sprawling restaurant with numerous attractive dining spaces, both indoor and outdoor. The majority of the latter is situated on several patios that command stunning views of the Pacific Ocean. I was told that these different outside seating locations hold around a thousand people over the weekends. Once you are here, it is easy to see why that is so. The menu is extensive and there are numerous choices both for meat eaters, seafood lovers and vegetarians. But if you are making the trek, all the way from the SFV, like I did, you have to order the lobster. And that too, Puerto Nuevo Style (after you have selected a table with captivating ocean views). A difficult task because each table competes with the other. My dish came with a tortilla soup and complimentary bread, tortillas, refried beans, rice and two salsas. The tortillas (made with lard) deserve special mention. They were fresh,handmade, with the right amount of chew and charred look and taste. It takes you to another place. My favorite way to eat these is with the refried beans (which were also superb). I ordered a small lobster and it arrived as a generous portion, succulent and full of amazing flavors and taste. Yes, it comes with melted butter too. Every bite was divine. My server was Antonio and he provided excellent service. The place is a seafood restaurant known for lobster overlooking the ocean. We ordered a couple of things to try out different options. We also got some drinks that were really good. The lobster was gummy not the greatest, the aguachiles were super tasty, the cóctel de camarón was refreshing and satisfying l, we got marlin and gobernador tacos. The down side of this was our server seemed she was not having a good day. Since we got there she gave us attitude and just did not seem like she wanted to be at work. Was just at Ortega's Puerto Nuevo this past weekend. Prices were definitely $$$ compared to other spots in the area, and honestly, the lobster was just okay. Not bad--but not what you'd expect for the price. The view is nice, but service was slow. Ironically, the best parts of the experience were the valet and the fresh tortillas--not the lobster itself. Overall, if you're coming to Puerto Nuevo for great lobster, I'd recommend trying somewhere else. read more

The valet staff was very friendly. The servers inside were not. We had a vegan individual within our party of 10 and were told by a server over the phone that it was okay to bring in outside food since their menu doesn't accommodate a vegan diet. When we got there we were told it wasn't allowed. It was a lot of back and forth until we were allowed to continue on and be seated. Unfortunately the service did not improve much after. It felt like we were being watched the entire time and we couldn't really enjoy our time there. Which is a shame since the outdoor seating area is gorgeous and overlooking the sea. Best Puerto Nuevo restaurant. Don't be fooled by all the other Ortega named after restaurants in the area. Located in the corner with a huge space for parking which typically is full especially on the weekends. Must come here alone to try their delicious tortilla soup with cheese. Free appetizer cheese balls and salsa and chips. You'll most likely see trio's willing to sing a song for a fee inside which is nice and unique to hear one of your favorites songs while enjoying a drink in the sunset. The place is known for their food. There's plenty of ppl trying to get you to pay for parking or to eat at their restaurant. They do have a parking lot to park your car. But you can also park on the street for free. It is cash only and they will you give you the pesos and American price. Total for 5 ppl with drinks and entrees was about 200 bucks. Door was just okay to be honest. Views are nice and they do have bands playing at your request. The brand and tortilla soup were delicious. Honestly, this place is now just hype. Nearly $200 for one seafood tray that felt should have been $50. Lobsters size of crayfish, ultra chewy bacon wrapped shrimp and so on...... bill was well over $300 for family of four. The best thing about meal was the beans and tortillas. We've been to Ortega's many times but perhaps it's time to give up the nostalgic reasons for returning. All that and no credit cards accepted! read more

Chips and salsa with few bread rolls stuffed with cream cheese was nice to start. We ordered a platter which has shrimp Medallion wrapped in Bacon = HEART ATTACK. Along with lobsters, octopus, fried shrimp, and tortilla. The lobster with buddy = yum! We also ordered a aguachile and got rice and beans. The food here was delicious and a beautiful spread. We got a pitcher of their sangria, which was tasty. We enjoyed our time here and the servers were nice to us. They also had a band playing around. We would come again. They have a tiny parking lot, but theres another one that's on the way there where you can pay to park in the "parking lot." To start off the view is amazing! I stopped by Friday around 11:30AM. This location is huge and they easily accommodate large groups. They have plenty of parking available. We were lucky to have Francisco as a server. He was very welcoming and took care of us. We ordered a platter w/ 3 extra lobsters on the side for a group of 7 . It was plenty of food we even had left overs to take home. Everything was flavorful my favorite by far was the lobster, cooked to perfection. I was also a big fan of the hand made tortillas. They are gigantic and taste delicious. Live music if you choose to have them serenade your loved one. When we left the restaurant was packed. So I recommend and early visit. Wow, what a view! I strongly suggest to sit outside if weather permits. You'll get an amazing view of the ocean. The restaurant is quite large, and the outdoor dining area extends until the end of the restaurant. Inside has a huge boat for the bar area. The vaulted ceilings are built as if you're in a boat or some type of arc. The restrooms are clean and decorated in a similar theme to the restaurant. Everything we ordered was amazing! I had the Fish & Shrimp Ceviche served over a Pineapple We also had the Papagayo Shrimp, which was stuffed shrimp w/ jalapeño, wrapped in bacon! It was amazing! The Clam Chowder bread bowls are made and baked fresh in house. You can watch the kitchen make the bread and fresh tortillas, and they are huge!! I wish we could come back to try more of their menu. Everyone around us ordered Lobster. The staff is very friendly. I definitely recommend this place when in Puerto Nuevo. I went to Villa Ortega's for the first time and I'm really impressed with their food and their service. The waiters were polite and attentive, the atmosphere was welcoming and inviting, their mixology was excellent, and the food delicious. We ordered the Ceviche Villa Ortega as an appetizer. It was plentiful enough for four people. It was bright and fresh which was perfect to cool off during a relatively warm day. Their bread rolls were an explosion of doughy flavor with creamy cheese and just enough jalapeño spice to be enjoyed as opposed to burning your socks off. My husband and I ordered the tray for two, which was enough to sample their seafood. It had two lobsters, fish, a variety of shrimp, and octopus cooked to perfection. It included a beautiful tortilla soup, rice, and beans. Their Villa Ortega margarita is prepared with mezcal and is done table side. It is refreshing with enough alcohol to be enjoyable without making you drunk after the first one. Their prices are reasonable, being a Caribbean Islander seafood is life but living in California seafood restaurant prices are scandalous. So a meal for two that included appetizer, drinks, and the main course with enough left over to take back home for a second meal at approximately $151.00 dollars is not bad at all. Keep in mind that they only take cash, either pesos or dollars. The lobster tasted a little fishy and the beans were flavor less. I had to put salt and butter on everything and I don't know if it's just me or not but I think the tortillas got smaller ??? I took a day trip to Mexico from San Diego and was able to get there pretty quickly arrived in Porto Nuevo and it was a lot of restaurants enticing us with lobster but this restaurant by far the best their tortilla soup their hors d'oeuvres. You can tell somebody's abuelita was in the kitchen, preparing something special for all of the guest. we ordered two margaritas and we have been on a margarita tour all weekend and there is by far the strongest and the most tastiest every time. I'm in Mexico I'm going there. I recommend anybody that wants to get more bang for their book to go to Ortega's you get a lot of food it's quality and fresh. This is my second time going and when I tell you every time I'm in Mexico I stopped there. We was overlooking the ocean. The sunset was perfect and our waiter was very attendant. Our first time to puerto Nuevo. We of course drove to experience their lobster. We arrived at around 2pm for lunch and there were quite a few people sitting outside. Mostly Mexicans. The prices are not that cheap. We paid $20 for a shrimp ceviche that didn't have a lot of shrimp and $94 for a plate of seafood for two that has two pieces of deep fried lobster a few different type of shrimp, grilled, fried and with bacon. 4 pieces of grilled octopus and quesadillas. Let me start off by saying that this place only accepts cash, so be prepared. I have visited this location a few times and I'm always satisfied. They do have parking on site but if you happen to visit when it's busy (typically over holiday weekends) it may be a little harder to find a spot near the restaurant, but don't worry. Lots of parking in the area nearby. We typically do the Lobster, Carne Asada, plate that also comes with a baked potato, guacamole rice and beans. It's more than enough for two to share. It also comes with a giant flour tortilla that is homemade. They provide you with salsas as well as melted butter for your lobster. Add some of that and lime and you're all set! They bring you chips and salsa as well as a few small bread rolls that are stuffed with cream cheese and jalapeños. Delicious!! I've had their Micheladas there, also great! But make sure that you ask them to make a full michalada with all the fixings because there are a few other ways that they make them in Mexico. Aside from the payment methods accepted and the whiff of what seems to be sewer water that you get every now and then, no complaints. It's overlooking the water so you can have a beautiful view if you sit outdoors. The indoor area is also very spacious. Restrooms are always clean! So that's a plus. And let's not forget the live music (typically mariachi or trios.) You do have to tip them to play songs but that's what makes the experience that much better. Enjoy! read more

I have been going to this restaurant for years and Ive always had a good experience until yesterday. My husband got drugged. He ordered a margarita and took a few sips and immediately started feeling off. BEWARE if you're a tourist. I almost had to take my husband to the hospital. This restaurant is popular for many reasons. Amongst them is the very scenic cliff side dining they offer here. The food is great. The atmosphere is very festive. Passing by this restaurant was a really good choice. You'll see that the most popular food item here is the lobster. By the time our group ordered they only had the medium sized lobster so that's all we got at our table as main dishes. For sides we got additional seafood like ceviche and agua chiles. All plates come with rice, beans, and the biggest tortilla I have ever seen! This restaurant was very cool about bringing outside drinks. We had some palomas and micheladas from outside vendors that we were able to bring in and periodically step outside to fill up. Absolutely terrible, the service was good and people were nice. Unfortunately I didn't come here for those things, I came for the food. The lobster was overcooked, the 'butter' was really butter flavored oil, just like you get in the movie theaters. The beans were...beans, and the rice the same. It's no wonder they're cash only, I can only imagine they've gotten lots of chargebacks after this performance. The best thing about this place is the view, but no families or kids on the beach that you can see because the neighboring condos and hotels don't allow locals on their 'private beach'.
