Still everywhere deserves a review, especially when it is the best local Chinese takeaway around here! Shanghai Delight serves up hundreds of Chinese takeaways every day and is always mobbed yet the food is always very good. I am not saying it is sit down city centre quality, but very few takeaways are. It is though very good at what it does do. Personal favourites are salt and chilli chips, salt and chilli chicken, chopped ribs in black bean sauce, beef Kung po, beef curry and chicken satay. None of these of course are advised as part of any healthy diet plan that I can imagine and are probably far from authentic. But they do taste very good. If you are up this way and fancy a Chinese feast then you should give this place a try.

So Shanghai is definitely a delight and does the best Chinese takeaway! If it wasn't packed with delicious calories I would eat it everyday! Owned by a husband and wife who have lived here for year originally born in Hong Kong, the husband the head in the kitchen you sometimes hear chatting in Cantonese to the rest of his crew he never crosses over. Occasionally the wife is on the desk she very friendly speaks English but only to the punters. A couple times a year they will close for a couple of weeks where there take a holiday a go back to HK to visit family. Ok so the best dishes are Salt and chili chips, Kung Po beef, salt and chili chicken. A wee beef curry never hurts anyone! To be honest of i was ordering Chinese and Shanghai was closed I'd just go without. All or nothing!

My boy always orders a crepe covered in Nutella, because he just loves it, and this time I had a portions of Chilli Nachos, (which were delicious). The restaurant overlooks all the shoppers coming and going on the ground floor of Centre West and is good for a bit of people watching. I had a coke and was pouring it into the glass provided when i noticed some of that waterproof lipstick on the glass. As it wasn't my shade the waitress believed me and brought me a new glass. I was now 'down' half a can of coke. I felt compelled to ask for another can so that I didn't lose out on the deal. The girl brought me one and left me with the remaining contents of the first. Result! It's not expensive at all, probably because of all the other outlets all around it. I'd recommend it, even if it's just a cappucino that you're after.

Don't let that put you off, the food is really tasty. They have 3 different homemade pastas on each day and everything seems to be pretty much homemade. I had the bruschetta to start and tuna mayo pasta. Both were well cooked and very fresh tasting. Special mention goes to the Nutella crepe and cream. It is huge!! The crepe was delicious, with warm oozing Nutella. Special mention has to go to the cream...no idea how they made it but it is worth getting just for the cream!! Cut above all the rest of the places in the food court.

Yes it's changed over the years but it's still the same old Asda underneath. The Cafe's still there, it was closed when I headed down today but I think I may pop in again some day for a brew. It reminds me of my school days of going down the street for my lunch. Hanging around about Asda looking and buying things we've no need for. This was also a fun past time when I used to be part of the management committee at the Terminal One Youth Centre across the road. I still can't believe they made this Asda 24 hours, is there seriously people who want to head to shop in Blantyre at 3 in the morning?! I've no idea but I know I certainly wouldn't. Also why they built a Hamilton 24hr Asda when the Blantyre one's been there for 30 years. Suppose the Hamilton one does have more stuff in it like clothes and electrical etc. Well I did mange to get my dad a new ariel for his tv so he was mighty pleased. You do manage to get most things from there but it is normally for the groceries. I do have one gripe with them at the moment since they've did away with the deli counter. You now can only buy packs of meat slices, which cost a fortune, £3 odd for several slices, I don't think so. I miss the counter where you could just order what you need, maybe 1 or 2 slices. There's still some kind of counter and that's where I asked about single slices, even the women agreed that they shouldn't have did away with the deli. Ah well maybe it will work, maybe it won't only time will tell. It was the same when all those self checkouts came into play. Don't even get me started on them. Also what's with the staff being made to have big hand signs with 'space here'?! Maybe it's to give them jobs when they lost out to the self checkouts. Some people's crazy ideas eh?! As long as they keep the Asda Price low. Do do do-do-do, chink chink! (slaps bum)

Once known as Home Delivery Network Ltd, this company underwent a re-brand after being slammed left and right on internet and by the media (Watchdog did an exposé in 2010). It is now known as Yodel: new name, same old crap! Behold my tale of woe... (Apolgies in advance, this review has turned out to be really long.) I've been a loyal Amazon customer since 2006. I've never had any problems, not from Amazon or its Marketplace sellers until now. I'd ordered a particular kind of modelling clay from a retailer in the US on 22/08/12. My seller dispatched from her side of the world using Global Mail, and DHL was to pick up on this side... except they don't deal with Global Mail packages, they turf it over to their partner company Yodel. Now, I was told to expect that delivery could take until 24/09/12 to arrive because it was coming from overseas, so I waited patiently for it to arrive. The 24th came and went, and still no package. So, I contacted the seller to let her know I hadn't received my package. Imagine my surprise when Yodel reported to her that the item was delivered on 30/08/12!!! So I checked my designated safe place, and there's nothing there (not surprising really, as this item needed a signature), asked all my neighbours, who are usually very prompt at handing over anything they received for me, and big surprise... they don't have it either. So I called DHL, who explained to me that their partner company was responsible, and gave me Yodel's contact number and the partner reference number. The first time I called, I got through to a rather vacuous young woman who said: "I can't help you, our systems are down at the moment." No apology, no offer of further assistance, only silence. So after a few moments, I ask her to take my details and have someone call me back when the systems were working again. She takes my details, and promises me a call back the next morning, followed with a short "will that be all?" Telephone manner leaves much to be desired, and as someone who has worked in many call centres over the years, I was appalled. Next morning, I receive no call. I try to get through to them on their premium business number using my mobile phone on my lunch break. After 30 minutes of brain meltingly awful hold music, nobody had picked up and I had to go back to my desk. I tried calling again after I'd left work on my way to a friend's house. 45 minutes of the same brain beating music, still nobody picked up. I was unable to try again until the next morning, when I called as soon as the line opened at 8am, and I finally manage to raise a dispute. Thankfully, the fellow I spoke to was courteous and helpful, and asked me a series of questions. He informed me that they would interview the driver, and I'd be contacted within 48 hours. I was happy with this, until 5 minutes later I received a call back from a woman who said: "You can't raise a dispute over 2 weeks after delivery, the driver won't remember it." Even had I called them on 24/09/12 when I was told to expect my package, it would still have been 2 weeks after. I explained this, and was basically stonewalled. Furthermore, when I asked for the signature that was taken to prove that it was in fact delivered, they refused saying only the sender has the right to that information. They did say it was signed by a mysterious 'N.W', though. They told me they wouldn't deal with me anymore, and I'd have to get in touch with the seller. Who knows who has my parcel? Or if anyone has my parcel? Luckily, the seller I was dealing with was kind enough to give me a swift refund. I feel sorry for her that this company may be damaging her reputation, especially when she didn't trust the package to this company in the first place. On a side note, Yodel's contact number is nigh on impossible to find online, and according to other sources they don't answer their emails. Contact is a chore, and disputes are made difficult. You only need to google them to encounter a wall of internet outrage and horror stories that make mine look like a picnic. Some simply beggar belief, and are worth the read for entertainment value. This company is best avoided, boycotted, and the more people who know about it the better. Amazon users are encouraging people to cancel their orders if they find out Yodel will be delivering, or not delivering as the case may be. Avoid and spread the word!
