Can't believe I haven't reviewed what used to be my local supermarket! I literally lived on the…read moredoorstep and only ever used this place because I personally think it's better food than the bigger supermarket chains like Asda and Sainsbury's, and it's a hell of a lot cheaper as well! What I like most about Aldi is that it sells authentic food, not brand name foods. I love that I can go in and get German sausage, Spanish chorizo and Swedish smoked cheese all right next to each other, and it's all real, authentically made food, as opposed to Asda's own etc. My one reason this specific store doesn't have a 5* review is that there's 5 checkouts and they never open more than 2, even when it's absolutely mobbed. The staff could also do with being a bit more friendly; they never look pleased in their chosen workplace! ALSO, incase anyone didn't know this because I certainly didn't; Aldi sells William Brothers beer, which is absolutely wonderful!

If you don't know what Aldi is all about then I suggest you visit. They have an excellent selection of Scottish craft beers (think BrewDog, Eden Mill, Tempest, Broughton etc.) and a great lineup of wines too. Lots of their produce is local and they are expanding their range all the time.

I've been coming to this store since I was born. I love this store! Sad I know but maybe it's the…read morefamiliarity. Yes it's changed over the years but it's still the same old Asda underneath. The Cafe's still there, it was closed when I headed down today but I think I may pop in again some day for a brew. It reminds me of my school days of going down the street for my lunch. Hanging around about Asda looking and buying things we've no need for. This was also a fun past time when I used to be part of the management committee at the Terminal One Youth Centre across the road. I still can't believe they made this Asda 24 hours, is there seriously people who want to head to shop in Blantyre at 3 in the morning?! I've no idea but I know I certainly wouldn't. Also why they built a Hamilton 24hr Asda when the Blantyre one's been there for 30 years. Suppose the Hamilton one does have more stuff in it like clothes and electrical etc. Well I did mange to get my dad a new ariel for his tv so he was mighty pleased. You do manage to get most things from there but it is normally for the groceries. I do have one gripe with them at the moment since they've did away with the deli counter. You now can only buy packs of meat slices, which cost a fortune, £3 odd for several slices, I don't think so. I miss the counter where you could just order what you need, maybe 1 or 2 slices. There's still some kind of counter and that's where I asked about single slices, even the women agreed that they shouldn't have did away with the deli. Ah well maybe it will work, maybe it won't only time will tell. It was the same when all those self checkouts came into play. Don't even get me started on them. Also what's with the staff being made to have big hand signs with 'space here'?! Maybe it's to give them jobs when they lost out to the self checkouts. Some people's crazy ideas eh?! As long as they keep the Asda Price low. Do do do-do-do, chink chink! (slaps bum)

I popped in here to grab some last minute snacks for an event at the nearby Craft Pottery. This is a small Sainsbo's with a small-ish range. They did have everything I needed though - which was crisps and paper towel. The guy on the checkout was exceptionally helpful so big shoutout to him (Daniel, I think his name was) and packed the crisps into bags with flair like I've never seen at Waitrose. He's the reason this is a 4 not a 3-star review. Prices are reasonable, they have a good range of home brand crisps and a few of the varieties are even vegan (who knew bacon crispies would be made from beetroot?!). I'd go here over the nearby Tesco, for sure.

A decent Sainsbury's Local on Sauchiehall Street…read more 'Local' roughly translates as a shop that is really small, based on the size of this one and that's the main annoyance here is that it can be a bit cramped. They do a decent bakery and it's good for picking up bits and bobs if you're going to the GTF for e.g. but if there's a Co-Op and Tesco just up the road a bit and a proper big Sainbury's down the road in the opposite direction which stops me from actively seeking this place out.

I went in to buy a selection of ales for a gift; you can do a 'pick-and-mix' to suit your tastes, and I easily filled a six-pack with Scottish ales that I'd never even heard of. I now want to go back and do the same as a gift for myself! Not just beer either - the wine selection is pretty inspiring too. Incidentally, the name 'Valhalla's Goat' refers to the Norse legend of Heiðrún, a goat who stands on her hind legs in Valhalla eating the leaves of the tree Lærað.
