The one thing that could be said about Churchill's in the past is that you never quite knew what you were going to get.
It wasn't that the owners were so adventurous they would buy in products from across the world. Nor was it anything to do with new special offers cropping up all the time. Instead, it was merely because the shelves were almost always completely bare.
A trip for some rolls, cold meat and soup for lunch could quite conceivably end up in a loaf of out of date bread, cat food and a pair of gloves (the magic ones that fit all, but still).
Thankfully those days are gone now and Churchills is back to being the excellent community resource it had been in the distant past.
Well stocked shelves, generous opening hours and a good selection of wines and beers ensure this place does extremely well from the residents of Kirklee and Dowanhill, and perhaps more importantly, that they rarely have to make the slightly longer journey to Byres Road for every day essentials. read more
