The imaginatively named 'Gary's Licenced Grocers' or 'GLG' (not) can be found on Old Dumbarton Road, just by the BP Petrol Station.
Inside there are not very many groceries, and lots and lots of alcohol. They have a lot of wine on sale, many of which is involved in deals such as two for £6.99 etc. It's inexpensive, and perfect for stopping off for something to drink on the way home from work.
They have quite a good selection of beers and ciders too - although don't expect to find anything too exciting or exotic. They do stock Koppaberg Pear Cider though - which makes them a winner in my book! Again, this isn't an expensive place at all to stock up.
Behind the counter you will find a huge selection of bottled spirits. This is slightly awkward, as you have to crane your neck over the owners to decide what you want, but I suppose this is the norm for spirit sales.
Back to my earlier point, Gary's Licensed Grocers do have some groceries, but they very much take a backseat to the licensed goods. I'm not sure that you'd actually find anything that you wanted foodwise here - but the stock and price of their alcohol kind of makes up for that!
The service was friendly, and the lady behind the counter was very willing to help me find what I was looking for. read more
