Late review from Napa visit last month. Jarvis was supposed to be the highlight of our 10th anniversary and it fell flat on its face. Walking through a cave tour for an hour sans hospitality glass felt borderline ridiculous. When we finally made it to the tasting room, Rob hit us with the world-record of small pours. To quote Paul Giamatti in Sideways: "Just give me a full gd pour!" It was a milestone anniversary and Jarvis knew it going in. I reached out to customer service afterward and Sil eventually followed up. Although she did apologize, she also confirmed that our lackluster experience was standard procedure. Jarvis had one job and they completely missed the mark. Cool caves, but we won't be back. read more

Jarvis Winery is definitely a high-end experience and is by appointment only. One thing to be aware of is that designated drivers are still required to pay the full tour price, even if they do not drink. Otherwise, they have to wait in the lobby area. That was a little disappointing since many wineries either take care of their designated drivers or offer a discounted tour-only option. You would think there would be some type of reduced price for someone who is only participating in the tour. That being said, our guide was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. We were surprised to learn how young he was and that he had only been working at the winery for two years. He did an impressive job. The tour itself was great. I loved hearing the story behind the winery and learning about the owner. The property is absolutely beautiful and massive. There is even a waterfall inside the underground caves, which was such a cool feature. The tasting experience was also very nice and informative. This Friday we took our young generation friends to start their Napa Wine Journey in a positive direction. We were greeted by David who is such a personable guide and makes learning about wine and the history of Jarvis an adventure. Not only does he take us into the history and production of Jarvis wine he makes it relatable to your interests and personal wine journey. We were paired in a tour with two out of state couples. David enabled us to mesh and create an immediate friendship based on the love of wine. In sort of a Wine Cheers way. While in the Founders Room, which is my favorite tasting area, we toasted to Founder, owner, William Jarvis who Recently Passed. His wife Leticia and son Will carrying on the torch for what they built together in 1990. I spoke about my respect for what he created and the memories he made possible for everyone that passes through the cave and what the Jarvis will continue in his memory. Along the tour we ran across Wine Maker Scott Morrison who takes time to say hi and ask how you're enjoying the tour and new offerings. I also had the pleasure in meeting Sil Coccia Vice President of Sales and Hospitality. He made the time to seek me out and introduce himself. We talked about what it meant to be a member and how Jarvis not only has the passion for producing quality wines but how they appreciate their members and guests and are hospitality focused. I am a partial member and highly recommend visiting Jarvis and experiencing what they have to offer. Not only for their well curated, estate only, cross section flavor profile wines but come meet the Jarvis Family. What I also appreciate is there is never pressure to join their wine club or buy wine. You are presented with the information, taste their offerings and the rest is up to you. Unreal. Truly nothing like it. I love, love, love Jarvis. What an incredibly beautiful place to tour, learn and try some outstanding wines. Our tour guide was hilarious with a dry sense of humor, and he kept us guessing the whole time. We had a party of 8, all with very different palettes, and yet we all had a favorite and none of us left wanting. We got to try quite a few different wines, and loved the pairings with the cheese, crackers and dried cherries. Breathtaking views - I've never seen anything like this... I understand why my parents wanted to come back a second time to experience it again. Small winery, good business, nice people, delicious wines - what more could you want? Highly recommended! The best informative wine visit I have ever experienced. Our tour guide was absolutely remarkable with her level of expertise, information and professionalism. The winery starts with an entryway into a mountain off the beaten path up in the hills. It takes about 15min to get to from downtown Napa. Upon arrival, the greeting was enjoyable by the staff there. Everything seemed perfect. We took a cave tour that was absolutely beautiful in every way. Even the bathrooms were beautiful. Upon taking the cave tour, we witnessed beautiful things all over the place including a water fall in the middle of the cave system. The sounds of it along the running water was just romantic and stunning. Definitely a picture moment! The wine tasting was hosted in a private cave room and had a fun friendly feel to it. Amazing ambiance, literally just a massive winery in a absolutely massive cave. Natural water spring runs through it, and they turn that into a waterfall in the middle of the cave. David our tour guide took great care of us, shared many insights on the cave history the vineyard history family history all of it. We probably would have skipped this stop, but it was still interesting to see. The winery itself is very cool and has a unique vibe, but the experience didn't quite live up to the price. At $150 per person, you're given maybe 5 oz total of wine, and the tasting happens only at the end -- after doing the entire tour without any wine in hand. The tasting portion lasted about 30 minutes. We came as a couple and were grouped with six others (eight total plus the guide), which kept it intimate but it's still a group tour. It's a bit out of the way, and there's no cell service at the winery, so rideshare isn't ideal (though technically possible). The wine was also some of the priciest -- and honestly our least favorite -- of our Napa trip. Total time was 80 minutes which was also the shortest visit out of all the wineries we went to, which is more ironic considering how long their tour portion is. Everyone we met there was very friendly and the setting was undeniably cool, but overall it's not an experience I'd recommend to friends when there is so much to do in Napa. read more

One of my closest friends and I went to Napa Valley in July 2023. One of the wineries that we visited was Jarvis Winery. According to VisitNapaValley.com and JarvisWines.com websites, the Jarvis Estate sits 1200 feet above the Napa city and is the world's first entirely subterranean winery. Jarvis Winery has a 45,000 square foot cave that houses their entire wine-making process from crush to extended bottle aging. The stream and waterfall running through the center of the winery function to maintain the humidity level in the cave at an ideal level for the barrel aging of wines. When we visited in July 2023, we did a wine tour and then a wine tasting afterwards. The cave is beautiful! The pictures I took doesn't do it justice. The wine tasting was fun because it was a lot of different categories of wine and flavors were complex. My faves were their Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. It was my first time trying a Cabernet Franc - and it was definitely memorable. Definitely worth a trip! I also love that it is still family owned, and they have plans to keep it that way! Very knowledgeable tour guide and wonderful tasting. The wines selected were unique and served with goat cheese, brie, nuts and crackers in a private room. The space is soothing and intriguing, with artful touches and unique rooms with crystal collections and light decorations on the ceiling. Outdoors there is a small lake which was very peaceful. One of my favorite wineries I've been to in Napa. Not only does the winery exude elegance, the wines are not overly sweet and well rounded. I quite enjoyed selection that I had to purchase a case. The tour was enlightening and our tour guide was well versed in the process of how the wines were made and was able to tell us a lot of the history of the place. This is my first wine experience. We signed up for the site tour and wine tasting. This place didn't disappoint. My friends and I went to another winery but by far this is the best wine experience I have ever had and my friends also agrees with me. The tour was very informative. Briton was our lovely tour guide. He was very knowledgeable regarding the history of Jarvis and wine. He was so kind to share other wineries around the area. They were about 7to of us in our group and we were all asking where else can be have a winery experience. He grew up and has lived in the Napa for awhile hence he seems the right person to ask for recommendations for other wineries and good restaurants to eat at. Jarvis is unique because it is a cave. We had a unique experience. Jarvis has a huge room that store their barrels. On the ceiling they had fiber optic lighting. They have this massive door the automatically open by a push of a button. I suggest this experience should be captured on a video. A picture would not justify this picture. I also suggest to video tape at the part where your tour guide take you at the water fall. This is a picturesque moment and this should also be captured by photos. We had 6 different wine tasting plus two extra ones that was unexpected. If you are in Napa Valley, this is the place you NEED to visit. I went to a few wineries and this is by far the most interesting one. Not only that, my tour-guide gave me the best experience ever. Their tours are reasonably priced, although they are on the higher-end when compared to other wineries. But what you pay for becomes apparent when you enter their lot. A beautiful, nature-filled road leads you to their gates that resemble something grand. They offer outside parking right before you reach the doors and you walk a short distance to enter their cave; which is where the tour begins. Jonathan greeted me as soon as I walked in and let me know that the tour I booked, which normally consists of a few people, would be private since I booked at an unpopular time. Obviously, I was excited! He led me in and made sure I was well taken care of. I never knew someone could know this much about one particular topic, but Jonathan was well-versed. He taught me everything from how they made their wine, to how the history of this cave was incorporated into the business model. It was very nice to have someone with that much passion show me around. Compared to other places, this was the most informative wine tour as well. At the end of our tour, I was given a notepad and pen to take notes on, while I was presented with different types of wine, nuts, and cheese and was given a quick pairing lesson on it all. Jarvis is one of our favorite wineries! We have been members with them for almost five years now. We have been back a few times both for tastings and events with the winery. Their hospitality we consistently receive there is always top of the line. It does not matter if you are talking to the receptionist checking you, or William Jarvis himself, they all make you feel like you are family and do everything in the power to make each experience special. Our latest visit we took some family and friends. David led us through a great tour of the caves, explaining everything that goes into the process and the minor details of the cave. The next time we go we will definitely be trying to ask for him personally. And of course the wines are outstanding! The tasting itself gives you six different wines if I remember correctly. They aren't just the latest vintage release either like some wineries do. You will be tasting different wines that are anywhere from 3-10 years old. Awesome experience and a must-do. You need to visit Jarvis Winery! First time to Napa Valley and not much of a wine person. We called Jarvis to see if they had a tour and tasting on a Saturday morning for 3. Staff over the phone were very accommodating and helpful and able to get our group on a tour during the afternoon. When you arrive you are buzzed into the property through the entrance gate and make your way through the property on a beautiful drive to the Cave. The property has EV charging and you can also bring your own plug if you have 110 or 240 or use the CCS plug provided. If you own a Tesla bring your adapter. You enter into the cave through large door into the waiting area. If you are early I would recommend asking to use the restroom where they accompany you through the cave to the restroom, you will get a sneak peek. You will get see the Cave as a preview and it is mind-blowing how gorgeous it is the the cave, if it is your first time. We had Briton as our guide and he was great. He answered all of the wine questions and if he didn't know the answer he would let the group know he would research and get back with us. The cave has large doors and a waterfall in the middle of the cave that helps with humidity. They give you the history of the family, wine, barrels, property, construction, any mechanical information, and any other questions you may have. The tasting is just your group in a large tasting room with great acoustics that makes the experience wonderful. Had 5 wine tastings with 2 extra glasses. They specialize in reds so we only tasted 1 white wine. For a non wine aficionado, the tour was top notch and I would recommend and go back before any other winery in the Napa Valley. If we were to do Napa Valley again I would try to schedule Jarvis as the last tasting because everthing after Jarvis was a let down. Supporting a Veteran Owned business this time, we made reservations to do the vineyard's cave tour and wine testing during the holiday weekend. Most wineries were booked solid so we were quite fortunate they had an opening for us. Driving up to the huge gate, we buzzed in for our reservation. We parked and walked over a pretty bridge to get to the cave's entrance. Howzit, we met Daniel, whose father is from Hawaii too! His tribal inked sleeve gave it away :) Dan was the best tour guide! Visited Jarvis for a tasting tour with a group a friends (pre-COVID). Jarvis offers a super intimate tasting experience and tour, you will feel like your group is the only one there the whole time. Our absolute favorite Estate Winery in the Napa region. If your in the area and are a true wino this place is a must. They are reservation only and definitely on the pricey side, but its well worth it. Came here in March for a private tour and had a great time. The Wine cellar itself is located in a man-made cave located in one of the hills on the estate. The cellar is huge, cool, and something I've never seen before. Now as for the wine, there all delicious. Your tasting is paired with a yummy French imported goat cheese, crackers, and assorted nuts. The most expensive of wine tastings in Napa, but SO WORTH IT. When you're in Napa for the first time, it's go big or go home, right? Outside of the tastings, wines are only sold to club members and to a handful of fine-dining restaurants around the world. Find it tucked away right outside of Napa on Hwy 121 going eastbound. The cave really is a different world, and the staff pride themselves on the intricate production process. A $100 tour gives you a walkthrough of the entire process as you see the different parts of the cave, a tour of some of the iconic rooms, and a tasting of six different wines in one of the tasting rooms. You'll be seated with guests with the same reservation time, and it really is an immersive experience. I got to try: *2018 Finch Hollow Chardonnay ($145/750 ml) *2015 Cabernet Blanc ($140/750 ml) *2016 Merlot ($150/750 ml) *2014 Cabernet Sauvignon ($175/750 ml) *2014 Lake William Blend ($230/750 ml) *2012 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon ($350/750 ml) I don't usually drink reds, but for some reason, I really enjoyed the reds from here. Perhaps it was due to the special production process, or maybe it was due to the fabulous company I shared.
