He is a good plumber, but I can't recommend him. He has a very poor attitude towards customers and doesn't take responsibility for issues that he causes.
Case in point... I hired him to swap out a hot water heater. In the process of moving the old one out, he crushed the rubber oil lines of the furnace next to the heater. It was an honest mistake, and he didn't realize it happened. However, I saw it happen, but didn't think much of it since they were rubber. Unfortunately, it caused the oil pump in the furnace to blow a seal which made the furnace send smoke in the house when it turned on a few minutes later. Fortunately, he was right there (since he was working on the water heater) and we were able to turn the furnace off, so very little smoke got into the house.
When I told him that I had seen the water heater crush the lines as he was moving the old heater, he pretty much denied that he had anything to do with it, and disavowed any responsibility. I had already planned to have the furnace technician come out for a different issue with the furnace, so I was willing to work with him regarding the repair costs (such as his waiving the labor on the next job I might have him do), but he would not even consider negotiating. I asked him if he had insurance for situations like these, and he basically cut off any conversation about it. I suppose I could have filed a lawsuit and his insurance company would then get involved, but the overall cost of getting the furnace fixed was less than the trouble a lawsuit to recover those costs would take.
As I said, it was an accident, and could have happened to anyone trying to move a heavy water heater. It isn't a reflection of his plumbing skills, which I considered good enough to rehire him for additional work (and I had planned to do so).
But... I recently called him to ask about putting in an electric anode in the new hot water heater (the hot water has a bad smell which is not uncommon with well water - it has to do with the type of anode in the heater). He didn't return the messages I left, and when I did get through to him, he was very terse on the phone, and said he was not going to do it. I asked him why, and he said he wasn't interested and promptly hung up (and he didn't say he wasn't interested in a particularly friendly way). My guess is that he just didn't want to own up to the mistake he made. I wasn't even going to mention it! He lives down the road from me, and I thought he would like to do a fairly easy job that was close by. But apparently his attitude got in the way. So, it prompted me to write this review.
Terry, if you read this, I think you understand why I wrote it. I was still willing to hire you for plumbing work, but I guess with the attitude you show your customers, I will have to find someone else. I hope your plumbing business can be successful, but you might want to consider that the way you treat some of your customers is not helping. read more
