While visiting Toronto we discovered this gem of a restaurant in a small storefront. I have to say, we agreed that we have never had better sushi anywhere - and we have visited sushi restaurants in many of the major US cities and one time in Italy. The fish is amazing! We couldn't stop talking about it and if we had another day in Toronto we would have come back for another round. Nice people on staff, and they allowed us to make them famous (see attached pictures).

Still amazing. Authentic in every way. My favorite are their rolls, but their fish is such high quality, you can't go wrong with their menu.

I order sushi from here quite often. I really like their signature Japango roll (highly recommended). The sushi is always fresh and the service is quick and efficient. If you decide to eat in, the restaurant is quite small, so be sure to make a reservation. Overall, a solid choice for sushi.

Can't believe 5 years passed by... Chirashi was still amazing, fresh fish, flavoured rice and tasty sautéed mushrooms. It's very hard for a restaurant to keep the same food quality nowadays, yet they did it.

I used to eat here when covid wasn't a thing and I was thrilled to be in the area for work and could not resist the chance to pick up some premium fish. I ordered a premium sashimi set and a premium sushi set to go. I must say though, the quality and variety of fish weren't as great as I remembered. Maybe it's the take out factor and I am willing to give them another try when I can dine in on the sushi bar again.

Very quick and courteous service despite being busy! The place is small with a tiny amount of seats but I had no problem getting seated for 2 at 6pm on a Saturday. Worth walking down the side street to see if they have space. Since they aren't on Dundas, they don't have as much foot traffic. Although the constant stream of uber eat pickups would suggest their food is very popular with people who prefer remote eating now. Tea is very fragrant and I want to say it's a mild chrysanthemum? A nice change from standard green tea or genmaicha at other places. Sashimi here is very fresh, well presented, and the chef offers nice thick cuts of a variety of fish. Salmon and avocado tartar wasn't anything super special, but I did like the sauce it came in. Pork Katsu don, I'd pass on next time. Pork was very dry, and there wasn't much flavor to the bowl. I'd come back for another visit since I'm curious what the omakase is like

It's my third time and I love the place. Waiters services were expected from a traditional Japanese restaurant. I like when people are straight to the point. Decent tea and japango should be your choice. Arigato, sayonara!

Hands down the best sushi I ever had in my life no doubt about that, yes sushi is expensive we all know that but the quality and the taste of this sushi was impeccable, starting with the sushi pizza the fish melts in your mouth perfect amount of heat, I mean come on, the spicy hand roll tasted amazing right amount of crunch, I typically don't eat carbs so today was my cheat day I'm glad I cheated on my diet on this place, the Japango roll which is a blowtorch it melted in my mouth and the sauce had the perfect balance of sweet, mix with ginger pickle and wasabi of course, I was lucky I got a seat because if you don't make reservation and come later on most likely you won't get a seat cuz the place is pretty small, clean cut place excellent service, the hand roll was amazing spicy salmon, I can just keep on eating but I'll gain a lot of weight l, great job Japango I can see why you were open all these years definitely amazing quality and best sushi in Toronto

I have had Sushi all over but this place is the closest I have found to eating sushi in an Izakaya in Shinjuku's Golden Gui area. The warmth and charm, I felt I was back in Tokyo. This is definitely a must when in downtown Toronto. The service was excellent. The Sushi was amazing.

There's definitely something magical in a Chirashi bowl...sushi rice sprinkled with seasoning topped with various sashimi, sweet shiitake mushrooms, egg and shiso leaves (my favourite!). I used to get this a lot for takeout lunch at Yutaka but since it's close now, I'm been coming back to Japango. Although I miss the Yutaka chirashi, I'm happy that Japango is still around and their Chirashi is just as good.

Chirashi Don - very good selection and fresh fish

My coworkers and I went there for lunch on Friday since all other places were packed and lineups out of door, so we gave Japango a try. This tiny restaurant was packed when we got there, but there was one table almost done so we waited for 5 minutes to be seated. The service was very prompt and friendly. From the time we ordered, then the food arrived and finished the food only took us a little more than 30 minutes. It was very efficient service for lunch. I ordered the Chirashi don which came with 5 different kinds of thick cut sashimi. The fish was very fresh and nice selection. Rice portion was generous, I wish the bed of sushi rice would have more flavours. The don came with soup and salad as well which was pretty standard. For $19, it was not bad for prime downtown location. My coworkers had the sashimi don that consisted of chopped sashimi with hot sauce. The portion was not as substantial as Chirashi don, but it was only $13. I am glad that I had a pretty satisfied meal at Japango. I would go back for more sushi and sashimi.

There were three add-ons (toro with caviar $25, uni with caviar $35, and caviar sushi). I opted in for the toro and uni add-ons. It was strange they give you the add-ons before any other nigiri. Everything was very good and fresh. Standouts for me was the appetizer, all three cuts of bluefin tuna, the lobster (by far my favorite), and the hotaru ika. I would've appreciated knowing that the omakase included or not included toro and uni before I decided on the add-ons but I don't regret it. It was a splurge night after all. Service was very attentive. Note that the dining space is very small. 12 seats around the counter and two tables. There was a very loud gentleman two seats from me who never learned to use his inside voice and totally ruined vibe. But that's not on the staff. Another note is that gratuity is automatic on the bill.

It felt comfortable, not too loud, and easy to settle into for a slow dinner. We ordered a mix of small plates to share, and everything came out looking nicely put together. The aburi-style salmon sushi was one of the highlights for me.. lightly seared, with a soft texture and just enough flavor on top without being overwhelming. The tuna tataki was also fresh and clean, simple but well done.
