Not sure how this place isn't ranked #1 cafe & bakery in Mariposa. The tastiest homemade pies...try the peanut butter cream pie. Service and food quality and care in presentation were top notch and generous. I believe it is Mennonite-run. They truly walk with God. The whole staff and owner/manager were so "on it" and serving all kinds of people quickly and personably. Besides being totally full on scrumptious sandwiches and pie, I went away feeling: Thanks God(!) these folks exist and are doing what they do in this turbulent world. Thanks Jantz Bakery. read more

2/04/25 Getting a sweet treat! Arrived and it's a cute little shop. Inside & outside seating. They have a LARGE variety of sweet treats. I bought a lemon bar and double chocolate chip muffin. A really nice selection of amazingly digit, delicious pastries, and a full selection of pies they make themselves. The service is friendly. The prices are pretty good too. They serve freshly made delicious sandwiches and soup too. They have a bathroom, which is really nice in Mariposa and in it you'll find local art that you can purchase. read more

I am updating my review because they need to hire people that aren't worried about their phone over customer service. They have decent pie and the snickerdoodles are the best. The past few times I have come, one time it was a day they were closed, another they were closed on a day they are said to be open, with nothing in the window saying why they were closed. I went in today and asked if they had apricot pie and the girl had her phone in her hand, obviously her phone was more important. She said no they dont have apricot, they have peach. So I said I would get a slice of apple and the razzberry one. When she took the pies in the back, with her phone in her hands. She had the pie in one hand and her phone in the other, then put the pie down, was texting, then cut the pie slice. I noticed an apricot pie in the case and was telling my daughter "See they do to have apricot and she said they don't". She said she can get me the apricot and I said she said they didn't have apricot but there is a whole pie, if it wasn't too late I would get a slice of apricot instead of the razzberry. She scoffed and grabbed the apricot one and cut me a slice. Came to the register, phone in hand, looking at her phone, so I just sat down waiting for her to get her act together. She finally rang me up, still phone in hand texting. Sorry, but if you are at work, you are NOT supposed to be on the phone. How hard is it to put your phone down and stop texting your friends to help a customer out which could be a 2-4 minutes transaction that turns into 10-15 because you want to be on your phone. The owner should review the cameras to see how much this girl is on her phone instead of working and getting paid to text her friends. This really deters me from shopping somewhere. A lot of places have a strict no phone policy at work, let alone when customers are in the shop. Oh how dare I interrupt her texting. read more

Jantz! While visiting Mariposa we stumbled across this cute little bakery, we grabbed a few things for our picnic and everything was incredible! Especially the Pecan pie, key lime and eclair :) The woman who helped us, Lucy, was very sweet and also made us a delicious sandwich. Yumm! read more

Found this place on yelp as we were staying at autocamp. It's located off the main road. Street parking right in front. We had no issues parking but I wonder if there's a parking lot in the back or something. It's located in a building with several other businesses. It's very small inside. There was one table of seating for two inside. The rest was out in the patio area. In addition to pastries, they have pies, sandwiches, salads and drinks. Ordered - kolachy (season and berry?) - Cinnabon (w butter cream & cream cheese on the side) - turnovers (strawberry & blueberry I think) - cake pops (chocolate) - cheesecake (blueberry) - chicken salad sandwich w/ potato salad. Came with pickles and a peppermint candy - meat sandwich alone Everything taste great. The Cinnabon was freshly made and soft. Glad I got 2 cos he ate them both. I wanted to try the kolachy cos I don't think I have before- it tasted like a fruit streudel to me with very dense dough. The turnovers were ok. Cheesecake was really good. I got the chicken salad sandwich as the worker said it's most popular and my husband got the meat as she said that was her fave. My husband and I agreed the chicken salad sandwich tasted better. Potato salad was good. great portions. Definitely recommend this place. FYI doesn't look like there's a bathroom inside but we didn't need to use one. read more

Last time I came through town, I got a box of different baked goods here and they were excellent. So much, that I had to come back. However, this time I tried a slice of their apricot pie and it was terrible. Something about the crust is completely wrong. I noticed what looked like to be a moldy spot on the crust and pointed it out to the cashier. She said that it Was not mold but it had something to do with how they packaged/transported the pie. I took her word and brought it back to our hotel. Needless to say, I had to throw the pie out. In thinking about it, what the cashier should've done was offered to replace it with something else :( The eclair that my son had however was still awesome. read more

After having brunch at Sugar Pine, my SO and I were craving something sweet! One of the workers had recommended Jantz Bakery for the Kolachy's-- so we decided to give it a try! PARKING: Fairly easy with lots of parking in the back. STORE: Yes! There's tons of pastries and pies to choose from.. but as delicious as they all sound, Jantz Bakery, DOES NOT ADHERE TO THE COVID-19 SAFETY MEASUREMENTS AND PROTOCOLS. - None of the staff members were wearing masks or gloves ( did not care if customers wore their masks or not ) - Did not care about limiting the amount of people inside The store itself was clean but it was alarming to see the store being careless of the safety of its employees and customers. With Mariposa's population, I'm sure their cases aren't as bad as other places... but we are still in a pandemic. WHAT WE ORDERED: - Strawberry Kolachy: our fave one out of the two! - Berry Kolachy: to us this one seemed really bland. On a recent visit to Jant's Cafe in Mariposa on July 27th, 2024 I was disappointed with the level of service I received. The young woman who assisted me had a bitter demeanor and appeared unwilling to accommodate my request for a sub. Despite Jant's reputation for delicious subs, she claimed that preparing one would take too much time and only offered items that were already available on the glass counter. I left the cafe feeling dissatisfied with the negative attitude and level of service provided. Fire her!! read more

This is the perfect spot to stop by to pick up a lunch for a picnic! Though customer service is a bit lacking, the food is pretty tasty. My fiance and I purchased the black forest ham sandwich box with fresh fruit and a peanut butter cookie along with a chicken salad sandwich with potato salad and a chocolate chip cookie. The chicken salad sandwich was great! The perfect combo of chicken and mayo with lettuce. They even added a crunchy pickle and tomatoes on the side. Chocolate chip and peanut butter cookies were delicious too. Very soft like I like them. The ham sandwich was good, but wasn't as great as the rest of the food. Unfortunately we didn't have the opportunity to try the potato salad - we got too full off the large amount of food they give you and didn't have a place to refrigerate it. I wasn't impressed with the customer service here though. The person taking my order took a long time before saying anything to me even though I was the only one inside waiting - they were doing something on the board near the entrance instead. They never said hello to me, just asked me what I wanted then went off to make it. While making my food, an older person came in just to buy a cup of coffee but also wasn't greeted or asked to wait a minute. As we were leaving Midpines to go back home in the Bay, we had to drive through Mariposa to get to the highway. While driving through town, I saw a sign with a piece of pie on it and knew I had to make a stop. After making a u-turn and finding some parking, I headed in to get a slice for myself and my partner. The store is located in a small building with a few other businesses. The bakery itself is pretty small with room for one small table indoors (unavailable for usage due to covid), two display cases full of baked goods, and small counter space for a cash register. It took a few minutes to be assisted since there were a couple other customers in front of me, but once I was assisted, the (who I believe is) owner was patient and answered all my questions. There were only five pies available to choose a slice from - Dutch apple, rhubarb, pecan, lemon meringue, and coconut creme. After the owner's recommendation, we went with a slice of pecan and a slice of Dutch apple. They were SUPERB. Well worth the stop. Even after saving some for the next day, they were still absolutely delicious. Will definitely always make a stop to pick up some goods! read more

Just stopped in here on our way out of Yosemite, hungry and hoping to get sandwiches and some pastries to go. The young girl behind the counter has zero interest in helping us and told us they were out of almost everything. When I asked specifically what they were out of she was annoyed and said most of the things and said if we wanted anything to let her know as she huffed away. We are currently in the Mariposa area and Maria and I really wanted to try their pies especially because the fruit looks like it's locally grown nearby. What we ordered: Boysenberry Pie Rhubarb Pie Fresh Veggie Sandwich We wanted to try something new and decided on boysenberry and rhubarb pie. Two flavors we both never tried before. And we were delighted when we tasted them! Both of us unanimously agreed the rhubarb pie was our favorite of the two. Still hungry but wanting to feel healthy, I ordered the fresh veggie sandwich. Call before you come. We assumed that all hours on Yelp, Google, and Jantz's website were accurate, so we drove 3 hours round trip to try a pie. Got car sick on the way up because of the windy mountain road and arrived to a closed sign at 1:30 pm, even though all internet sources (including Jantz's own website!) said it was opened until 3 pm. I was disappointed. In these days, it's easy to update your hours and not to do so is irresponsible of these business owners. After reading other reviews, I think I'll save another trip up here to something else. Doesn't appear that service is good or welcoming. read more

Food is good. The lady at the counter was rude and wasn't wearing a mask or gloves. We got a half order of biscuits and gravy and a chicken salad sandwich- both were huge and tasty. Unfortunately, they clearly aren't taking many covid safety precautions at the store, as the woman helping us was not wearing a mask or gloves and multiple customers came in and out without masks on. I didn't notice any hand sanitizer readily available for customers either. The same woman was rude and seemed annoyed to have to answer simple questions, like "what's in this sandwich?" The cinnamon roll was exceptional. The sausage gravy was OK (but huge portions - the whole order would be enough for 3). I was surprised by how unfriendly the woman was who worked there - for a bakery that is chock-a-block full of bible quotes and Christian symbols, it was a really discordant experience.
