Took my dog to get groomed! 5.5 hrs later we picked him up when we got there his fur wasn't cut off top and she fixed that but the cut was horrible and on top of that he was cut by his ear and she never told us about it! Been going to Jan's for dog nail trim. Great price, not a long wait but I go when they first open. They do a great job with my little dog which has crazy nails when we go and nice short nails when we leave. Cash is preferred but they do cards too. Getting inside the building there is a narrow steep ramp which is not suitable for people who are mobility challenged read more

If I can give this place a minus I would. First impression of the building is runs down and need cleaning. and I was like should I leave my dog here? I almost bailed on my reservation and just took off. I should have done that. But since I confirm that I will come. So I want to honor my words. So I dropped my fur Babies at 12:57 pm. So I asked what time will she be done. She said 4 or 5 pm. I said wow that's a long time. Than I came back at 4 pm and they just showered my dog. I was like seriously. And they mentioned they are short handed. I understand but I think they should inform me and be honest so I can make choice should I leave my dog there for 5 hours. And for good customer service, If you can't take that much dog than don't. Bad management with the scheduling work. Now the lady said we are behind and she will be done at 6 pm. I don't know how her scheduling is done. I feel bad for my fur baby staying inside the crate. If she was not showered yet when I came, I will take her home. And on top of it. She also say we don't take card, cash only. Nobody say anything to me when I drop her off.. And they don't take Venmo either. This is place really need majors management training and communication and time management. Btw my fur babies done at 6:40 pm. There is no apology from the owner. I don't want to make a big deal but no more business from me. When we got home: the first thing my dog did was drink. Lots of water. Seems she was not drinking for the past 6 hours and second things is peeing. She also seems been holding her pee for 6 hours. read more

Jan's has gone downhill. We always had our cat groomed here, but the last time they had the cat all day and only washed him. It seems they really need retail management training and a booking system. If I had to guess, they have been doing low priced grooming and are suffering trying to satisfy the satisfy the customers who complain about the price. My advice as a long tome successful business owner is to politely drop all the bottom feeders, charge higher rates and make your mission top service for clients that don't expect you to stay in poverty. Invest the profits in a online scheduling system and have someone answer the phone. I think they must have lost their cat groomer or they overbook her to death. Either way, we lost faith in this business and we bought cat grooming set and are doing it ourselves. It sucks, the cat looks like he went to a chop shop, but at least he he clean and our home isn't covered in clumps of black hair everyday. read more

I have taken my dog to Jan's Grooming the last two times she needed groomed. The first time I brought her I was amazed at how good of job they did. She was a beauty after, with no more under coat! She is a Yukutian Laika, so a big shedder. I vowed then, to only take her to Jan's going forward. Not only the best price but by far the best groomer I have ever found. I returned with her this week. she was shedding like crazy and her white fur was getting very dingy. When I booked her appointment I hoped it was not a fluke, and I just managed to get lucky the first time. To my amazement, they managed to groom my girl even better this time. I didn't even know her fur could be this soft and that she could get so white. Her fur actually glistens. I don't write many reviews, but I actually want to write this review! Been here twice with my dog who absolutely hates getting his nails trimmed. He had a poor experience as a puppy and is fearful of it now. Thankfully, Jan's seems to be good with him and getting his nails trimmed without clipping his quick. We're never in the office for longer than 10 minutes, even as a walk-in, and he's come out happy and without injury both times we've taken him so far. Jan's shares a parking lot with the vet next door, but I've never seen more than a handful of cars there at any time. There's also a decent amount of free street parking nearby if needed. read more

The person that runs this place is a liar and has hurt several dogs. Mine to an extreme extent requiring difficult surgery. I never want to harm a small business, but the upsetting, graphic nature of my dogs injury and lies have made me so upset. Not to mention the money spent to save my dogs life. If you decide to come here, make sure to inspect your dog for deep cuts afterwards, the hair of your dog can mask it. When left untreated they can, of course, become infected and lead to nightmare scenarios. We wish that the owner had owned up to her mistakes and paid the extraordinary costs of our vet bills. I haven't been coming to Jan's a bit now and my experience happened a few months back. I felt the need to finally leave this review now because someone recently had a terrible experience and my review could have swayed them to not come thus saving their pup from harm. On my last visit it was nearing 7 hours, they had told me he would be done in 3-4 and I called and was told he would be done in a half hour. So I arrived and he is still not done and I waited another 45 minutes. When they brought him out his ears were still damp and they asked me if I wanted them to dry them. Hah! At that point I was done and had to get home to my family. When I got home not only were his ears damp they weren't even combed out. Then I noticed him licking his paw and there is a gnarly cut on it. One that they would have definitely noticed when it happened. I understand that mistakes can happen, a pup can move, but the fact that they didn't mention it is upsetting. At that point I had paid for a half finished and injured pup and it took almost 8 hours!! I decided that would never go back. I never brought this up for them to attempt to rectify because I knew I wouldn't want to subject my dog to their care any longer but I wish I would have left this review earlier to warn others of the issues and neglect we experienced. I've been taking my little dog here for the last year or so, and I have to say they are incredibly kind and compassionate. My dog is a senior dog with a ton of issues for her health and they always make sure that she is comfortable and not stressed. I highly recommend them but definitely need to book at your appointment because they are super busy. read more

I have a fiesty/sassy/abused rescue Persian. She won't let me brush her so off to the groomers we go. We went to Jared the Cat Groomer before and she bit him with no warning! Plus, he's quite spendy! Not a lot of places will groom cats so I was stoked when I found out Megan (the owner) of Jan's does cats. After a nice morning cocktail of gravy and gabapentin, off we went. Ive been taking my dog to Jans for 8 years, after they open after covid took my boy to get groomed, nails the works he was there for 9 hours, got him home and he started coughing , gagging and 5 months later he's still coughing and gagging, took him to vet one month after visit and was told his trachea was damaged from a collar around his neck being pulled , well i thought it was kennel cough which he gets every time after i have him groomed its normal 5 months later hes still coughing and gagging so sad yes Jans only charged me 25.00 but 9 hours later and several vet visits later im so angry , my regular groomer there left I found out after the fact , and I was sitting in waiting room waiting 2 hours the staff would rather talk about what they were going to do the up coming weekend then take care of my dog with a neck wrap around him, so wish i could find out where the groomer went who groomed him for 8 years at Jans, cause i refused to take him back there, so sad they did this to my boy dog, its horrible how he coughs and gags after his last visit, I feel so bad for my little boy to have to go through this and my vet says damage is done and groomers should know not to put a collar around small dogs cause it will destroy their Trachea and once damage is done no going back!! I took Rosco the bichon in today as a walk in. I have been trying to groom him myself because I can no longer afford 60 to 70 dollars for his groom. Had a 10 am drop off on 8/11, specifically for an 8 month old poodle, poodle cut. gave my pup a mild sedative, let them know. At 1:33 called and asked how much longer, told me to give them an hour. At arrival at 2:20 they asked me how I wanted him groomed. 3:33 we walked out the door. They complained they didn't realize I wanted the summer sport cut. Bottom line, not once between 10am and 2:20 did they reach out to me to clarify the specs on grooming. My pup was in a crate for over 5 hours. Never ever again! read more

I really wanted to be graceful, but unfortunately my second experience with Jan's grooming was really frustrating. After three days of miscommunication in scheduling, they were able to get my boys in, which I really appreciated. When they came home, we noticed a skin infection on one, and the other was coughing. We thought it was mites but the vet confirmed that it was a bacterial infection due to poor grooming hygiene, and the other got kennel cough. My poor boy has to get antibacterial and fungal treatment, has scabs and peeling skin all along his back, and the other one is coughing non-stop. I almost wonder if the groomer was inebriated as well as she appeared unorganized and incohesive. They were there all day for nearly 8 hours. at pick up, could not find their collars and was shaky... I should have followed my instinct with the many errors that presented before the initial apt... Which by the way, was scheduled on a Thursday... with no communication, I waited a 45 minutes before leaving. Was told to come back Monday, the groomer was not there. She was able to get me in on Tuesday, with another groomer, but that was all a disheveled mess I am hoping the owner can contact me directly as I believe strongly she should know how her business he being ran.. I also believe that Jan deserves better to maintain the reputation that she has built.. All to be going down hill due to some sketchy stuff going on behind the scenes. read more

Jans Dog grooming I think is one of the best. They do not require a shot record and the prices are reasonable. It is nice to be able to drop your dog off and to know he is safe. They take great care with your pet. So just to trim nails is 5 dollars and a complete makeover depending on the dog size is 40 to 60. These are are at prices and I have never been disappointed. The parking is average but since owners drop off there is room for parking. There is a seating area with refreshments and yes our pets even get doggie bones for being such a trooper. They don't speak the truth. They don't stand by what they say. I have had my pet in there multiple times and the price is different every time. I have many friends that take their pet there that I will tell them to not take their pet there again. If they don't speak the truth. And change their prices as they want. I will have my friends take their pets to another place. That I can drop in and the price doesn't change. It's not OK for one price today and a different price tomorrow. For anyone who has fur babies who get groomed...DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT take your dog to Jan's Dog Grooming. Myself and my family have been loyal customers for YEARS, and recently they have had a large employee turn around and their staff now is absolutely horrible! I had a horrible experience with my dog in July, and decided to give them another chance (given people make mistakes...we all do), so I scheduled another appointment. I spoke with Megan and I made specific requests for how I wanted my dog groomed: NOT to cut her eyelashes (because they did that last time), clean the hair out of her ears, and a small all around trim. Her Appt was scheduled for 1pm, and my bf wasn't even able to pick her up until almost 6pm. Her eyelashes were cut off, her ears were not cleaned out, she was extremely dehydrated from not being given water there and they burned her nose. I confronted them about it the next morning and they had no excuse. And on top of all of that, when I showed up to talk to them, two other customers were waiting to bring their dogs in for appts and no one was there!!! They didn't show up until 8:45 and they open at 8am! One lady had an Appt at 8am and the other at 8:30am!!! Something really fishy is going on there and I'm not going to stand for it. My dog is TERRIFIED going to the groomer now. I feel so awful for her. So, because she has no voice, I have to be her voice and will gladly do so! I have reported them to the city/animal control services. I am a reasonable person and my first time experience could very well have been a one time situation but how it was handled really made me upset and I will not be going back. I do not doubt that they do good work. But i want to make people known of my experience I called 9/28 to make an appointment, they were kind on the phone and made my appointment for 9/30 at 12pm. I informed them on the phone and when i dropped her off at 11:50 that Riley, lab/border collie/mutt, sheds out this time of year and just needs a bath and a good brushing. Should be about 1 to 1.5 hours with a bit of waiting, understandable. THREE HOURS LATER I am wondering if maybe they had called me and weren't able to get through to me so I called to check in. Immediately get the VM and it says they "don't answer while grooming". Ok no problem, ill just stop by. I show up a bit after 3pm, Riley is in a crate behind the front desk, not a problem. I ask if she is done and am told they haven't gotten to her yet. They are THREE HOURS BEHIND AND NEGLETED TO TELL ME. They could have told me when I dropped her off that they were behind. They could have called me to let me know. They could have texted me. A quick 2 second heads up. I would have just offered to bring her back later when they weren't so slammed. Riley is not a crate dog. I don't care if she needs to be in there for a bit but three hours is RIDICULOUS at a groomer. Her leash hadn't even been taken off of her which is dangerous. I told them I wanted to take her and would just bathe her at home. I spoke a bit sternly but I wasn't unkind. I get her out to the car and she has a pool of drool under her chin from stress. (which i know is because she is not used to crating and that is not their fault, they didn't know that) But if a wait time like this happens, I feel that the right thing to do is let people know. read more

This has been one of the best grooming places I've found in Vancouver. I swear, they are like dog whisperers. My old little lady (12 years old dog) would go crazy every time someone would attempt to clip her nails. But here, it is so quick, careful, and well done. I'va been taking my dogs to Jan's Grooming for over thirty years. Sometimes I just pop in for a quick nail trim. no appointment needed. But most often, I schedule a full session. That's a bath and a hair cut. I think that all the groomers are highly qualified and truly love the dogs. But last week I had a new groomer take care of my 12 year old Stella, and it was the best cut she has ever had. It's not easy to run a small business and keep good employees. For years as we drove along Fourth Plain we would see this sign off the road near St. Johns that said Jan's Dog Grooming. I've got to say from the road it did not look particularly welcoming. We assumed it was just some old lady named Jan working out of her house. The fact is we never in a million years would've actually stopped there to check it out as there is zero curb appeal. Well then we changed our Vet and there it was, right next to Veterinary Hospital and from the back, it looked completely different. It looked welcoming and professional and because I was already there, I dropped by to have my dog's nails trimmed, not an easy task as Cooper is over 100 pounds. The inside of the place was such a nice surprise! Clean and bright and fun. They took Cooper into the back, had his nails clipped in under five minutes and only charged me five bucks. Heck, I gave them ten and felt like I had discovered gold! Someone needs to work on their curb appeal! Cut those bushes down, add some lights... something, anything so that people know what's really going on there. The place is a diamond, hiding in plain sight! read more

Absolutely love taking my family member Bella our three-year-old German Shepherd to Jan's she's been going there for nail clippings since she was two months old. Megan also grooms her for the winter time so she doesn't track in as much mud. I love the way she does her nails with the Dremel due to she has Hollow nails and they could otherwise split. I was very nervous when I first met them but Megan came right out in the waiting room and clipped and finished with the dramal on my brand new puppies nails on the spot and made me feel very comfortable and safe from then I've been with her. I used to have a Shih Tzu named Athena So I know a little bit about grooming this is a great place. Happy holidays ladys. See you again soon. read more
