The selection at this store is really great. There are a lot of products that are hard to find in other stores. That being said the staff really needs a lot of work. Ive placed countless orders at this store and it's always a headache. Giving any information to whoever is answering the phone is a feat in it's own right. It shouldn't take 3-4 minutes to order a single gallon of paint. I always pay in advance only to show up and have none of my paint ready to be picked up. Everyone knows parking along 7th Avenue is virtually impossible and efficiency is key- that's why you would call to place an order ahead of time in the first place. The manager definitely does his best to try and make things run smoothly but time and time again the staff really isn't doing anything to make the experience there remotely pleasant. I'll have to go back eventually and I hope that things improve in the future. read more

He was most wonderful and a consumate professional in helping us select the correct blinds for our apartment. He made our selection easy and gave us valuable input and had a colleague come to our apartment to measure. They arrived promptly and in a perfect state. They were later installed and they work ideally. He also got us a $100 rebate card from the manufacturer which made our purchase even better. I haven't written a Yelp review in a year or maybe two. The experience at this place recently compelled me to come out of hibernation. The worst customer service I can remember experiencing. Ever. In any setting. A footnote to that is the slowest checkout experience I have ever experienced. I was actively searching for a noose randomly hanging from the ceiling. The worst part of this ordeal was the lady that runs the wallpaper section. Find "helpful" on the map. Go 180 degrees in the opposite direction and you will find the lady that runs the wallpaper section. She doesn't listen, she is rude, and she is most definitively unhelpful. Oh, and I bought stuff here. 500 bucks worth of stuff b/c I had already done my research on wallpaper and paint and wanted to get it done but I regret that decision. It took 90 minutes to get in and out of there when it should have been no more than 30 with some friendly employees and modest efficiency. The prior reviews are all too correct. I wish I would have read them before. They need a new management and all new employees. read more

This was the Janovic on 7th Ave near 23rd Street...if I could give this place a minus star I would. In good spirit, I went here to patronize neighborhood stores rather than big box, but after last Saturday I will never set foot in this Janovic again. The WORST customer service I have ever experienced .... truly surreal . The place is a dump and the staff, at least on this Saturday Sept 29th, were a joke and unbelievably rude. My advice, run, do not walk, to a local HW store or Home Depot to buy your paint or other decorator supplies. I am actually still in shock at how awful these people were to deal with .... just amazing and if this place bites the dust, well it will not surprise me in the least. Tony was extremely knowledgeable about the various shades and what they would look like, and gave me helpful artistic advice on fabric, shade, and pull. He has a great decorating sense. I bought Hunter Douglas shades here 11 years ago. When they recently started falling apart, I returned to this location to look into either repairing or replacing them. I expressed my disappointment, to their rep Richard Latini, that the shades hadn't lasted longer. He looked up my records and contacted the main office and to my delight, he offered to replace them for free (even though they were way out of warranty). I was beyond impressed that Hunter Douglas would stand behind their craftsmanship this way. And Richard was so great - following up with me, scheduling installations and representing his product. Before this experience, I was indifferent as to where to purchase new shades. Now I will definitely return to Hunter Douglas when it's time for new window treatments. read more

I just had the most rewarding shopping experience at this establishment today. I'm sad I wasted my precious time off in the Home Depot yesterday, as that trip was utterly painful and the customer service was horrendous. I'm undertaking a interior paint project at home and I wanted to be incredibly thoughtful before dropping a couple hundred bucks on materials. The Benjamin Moore paint selection here at Janovic is everything you dream of, but more importantly and why you are reading this, CUSTOMER SERVICE is exactly what it should be!!!!! I came in around 9am this morning and I was greeted immediately, I told the staff that I would park in the corner staring at swatches for a bit in my own, before I would need their help, so to be efficient and thoughtful of everyone involved. An 1.5 hr later, I was ready for Latrel's (really hoping I spelled that right because she was phenomenal) assistance. To make a long story short, this woman knows her paint. She gave me her undivided attention and answered my 100+ questions professionally and knowledgeably. Not only am I confident with the options she helped me choose, but I've never felt more pumped to spend a couple hundred bucks and many hours of my own personal time to execute this project. Thank you to Latrel and her knowledge. Home Depot not only made two of the same sample colors when I clearly asked for two separate colors (one a navy blue, the other a medium green), but they made me feel like an asshole for even asking them to do their job (which was done very very poorly). I don't expect workers whistling at work, but I do expect that the employees you hire to talk paint, like to 1. Speak to people and make some freeye contact and 2. know something about paint. DO NOT WASTE your TIME at the HDs of the world, come here and feel taken care of from the start. I will. read more

I dealt with Bill who was truly lovely, helpful, and personable. He however had to acomodate for one of his colleagues who truly dropped with ball in terms of our order, which was not even placed. If you have a project that is time sensitive and you are reliant upon the product then this might not be the place. However if it is something they have readily available then that is another story. I called Janovic to order paint and went to pick up the order later that same afternoon. When I showed up at the Janovic 7th Ave location in Chelsea where I live, I quickly found out that I had called the Upper East Side location for the order. Fortunately, I had the pleasure of dealing with Kevin Turner the store manager. Kevin was very understanding about my mistake, he called the other location told them the situation, transferred my payment to his location and quickly mixed me up a new batch. While I was waiting I observed his interaction with other customers as well as his employees and he is really wonderful. I avoided purchasing shades for my bedroom for years due to a past negative experience at Janovic on 7 Avenue however I went in last November to purchase paint and everyone was professional and courteous. I returned in September to see about the shades. Everyone was wonderful and I had my shades installed three weeks later. Max measured my windows and Richard spent time helping me choose the color and fabric. He replied to emails about the process and length of time. i don't typically write reviews. but i have to say, the experience with the shades department has been SO awful that i have to write this. the woman who helped us there was often unavailable but when she was available was REALLY clueless. we felt obligated to use them because we paid for the initial measurements. the measurements were lost. then they were wrong. then our blinds broke :-( the breaking part is not janovic's fault. they were hunter douglas blinds. BUT the experience to get them fixed was no better. the person that came to service the blinds was rude. the timing when he came was 2 hours too early. the temporary shades were not at all what was promised. the report of what was broken on the shades was wrong. it is almost laughable that everything that could go wrong from a customer service standpoint seemingly has... BUT i am writing this to ask you to think twice before you use janovic as your shades solution. i wish i had. read more

I ordered samples of wall paper and for five days no one has returned my call nor followed up regarding my order.So basically I wasted almost a week waiting! Avoid This Place Like the Plague! I had 11 windows in my home measured by their staff approximately 4 years ago and have steadily bought window treatments from this store and having them installed by the firm. I went into the store to order blinds for the last 2 windows a couple weeks ago and had the misfortune of dealing with "Christine". I explained to her that my measurements for the windows would be in the computer system as they had been in the past and she instantly replied that customer service is closed and she couldn't help me. Luckily I brought with me the printout of the measurements for all 11 windows and read off to her the specific width and lengths that was given to me. She slammed a few keys around and complained for over 20 minutes about how bad her computer system was and eventually took my $330.00 with a smile. 3 weeks later when I called to schedule an installation, I was informed by Marie in customer service that Christine put into the system that I measured the windows myself and therefore the blinds are not refundable, etc... When I tried to explain to Marie the conversation I had with Christine regarding the measurements she told me she was just reading what the computer says. I asked her to check for my measurements in the system and I was told that any information older than 1 or 2 years would not be in their system.. I called Christine and she immediately became defensive and nasty stating the exact same thing....It was obvious that she and Marie had just spoken.. so here's the deal... I have spent over 10k in window treatments with Janovic. Why would the firm delete their computer records after 1-2 years unless they wanted to charge me again for measurements? Why be so rude nasty and defensive during a conversation with a customer. Frankly, I am confidant that the measurements are fine and they will install easily next week BUT I will never set foot into this firm after such miserable treatment by the staff. In reading other reviews on YELP it seems that many customers feel exactly the same way.... AVOID Christine at 7th Avenue! read more

Do not buy window treatment here or hire them for installation. As many other reviews here attest, their customer service is inept. After charging me nearly $1000 for 3 blinds and installation, they refused to email an itemized receipt, delaying my discovery of discrepancy between estimate and final charge. The original salesman - Richard Latini - simply stopped responding to emails once payment was made. They then missed 3 different installation dates. When I informed the store assistant manager Roger Davis, he promised to deal with the issue immediately. I'm still waiting for that call. I'm entering my second week of attempting to get installation for which I paid in full weeks ago. read more

These guys always had great painting tips and were quick to the draw in terms of getting the paint in the bucket so we could get back to our apartment and harness the last few hours of daylight to finish the job! I had a great experience with Janovic. I needed to order shades, and after much research decided to do Hunter Douglas. Janovic has a seating place with binders to go through their blind colors and types, and has a good number of samples. It was a tough decision due to the number of choices. The salesperson was helpful in placing an order - but that was it. Once I placed the order, she did not bother to tell me about installation details and seemed as if she could not wait to hang up after the order was placed. I persisted asking for details. They placed the order, the shades arrived in 3 weeks, and I had to call customer service to schedule installation. The delivery guys called me to schedule a delivery time, I asked them if my doorman could sign which they agreed to. However, once the shades were delivered, the delivery guy refused to bring it inside and said he would charge $140 to bring it inside the building, and $175 to deliver to my apartment. I was not present since they said my doorman could take delivery, and they did not tell me there would be extra charges for inside delivery. My doorman, being a nice guy, brought it all inside. It was easy to schedule installation. The guy was running late but installed everything in 30 minutes. The shades look amazing and provide the blackout that I desperately need to escape the bright city lights and have a good night's sleep. Overall I had no problems, just wish the delivery people had been clear about communication else I would have had to pay $175 or come home to accept delivery. I would order again from here, but Hunter Douglas is expensive and I decided to forgo living/dining area window shades and just had them installed in my bedrooms for blackout. Not sure if an online retailer would have been cheaper. read more

The blinds are fine and the price is fair. However, the customer service on this place is a mess. I asked for prices, after waiting for an email back for 3 weeks I went back there and employee said that she had forgot about it... The First appointment for them to come and measure the guy shows up an hourly early (I was not home since I was leaving work early for the 12pm appt). Then, I make an appt for the installation he doesn't show up. Another appt for 4pm he shows up at 12pm (again, no one was home since it was the wrong time). Then the last appt was for Friday at 4pm he shows up one day early (Thursday) at 4pm. Only because of a coincidence I was home and they get to install it. They can't get one appointment right. How do you stay in business being this disorganized I have no idea... Someone give them a calendar please! read more

I purchased a shade, to be custom made, last April. The shade was delivered and installed in early May, but was clearly defective. After contacting Janovic customer service the shade was picked up for inspection and delivered and re-installed a few weeks later in the same condition. Once again I called customer service and was advised that this was a custom made shade and "sometimes that happens." Not an acceptable response! After numerous phone calls between customer service and the vendor, and submitting pictures, the vendor agreed to re-make the shade. This was in June. I waited ALL summer, was called a number of times asking for my patience, as the vendor wanted the shade "to be perfect." The new shade was delivered mid September...while installing the new shade the installer himself commented that the seams were "buckled." Again! After numerous phone calls and e-mails, again with customer service, they agreed to pick up the shade and my money, (over $1400.00) would be immediately refunded. The shade was picked up on October 8..it is now November 8...nothing yet, and no response to my most recent e-mails. Although I have disputed the charge with AMEX, (by the way, ALWAYS make your purchases on AMEX) it infuriates me that they have not credited the charge to date! I have since ordered a new custom shade from a small, local, independent company and, so far, have been pleased. Should have gone there to begin with! read more
