Pictures were easy to hang with Command Strips.
    Karen P.

Hi, I was visiting my son who recently relocated to Soho from Maryland. He had some terrific pictures he found to hang on his wall in his living area. I wanted to help him hang them. I had never experienced plaster walls before and wasn't sure what was the best way to accomplish this. I came to the store and a young woman, so sorry I forgot her name, helped me find the perfect solution with Command Strips Damage-Free Hanging Strips. She took her personal time to help me figure out which type I needed and how I would use them. It was a success and I really appreciate their customer service.

I needed acrylic glaze which is used for Strie paining. The gentleman knew exactly what I needed and was very helpful. I personally like using specialty stores as opposed to big box businesses, especially for paints and tiles. Coincidentally, there is a tile store near here which I will be visiting next. I will definitely return to this store. On a related note, if you have never tried to Strie I would highly recommend it. You can do opposing colors on the color wheel (like yellow and blue, or you can do opposing sheens like flat yellow and gold). It looks very classy when paired with good trim and/or crown molding. Basically you paint the wall with a base color. Then mix another color with the glaze, I would recommend 4:1 glaze to acrylic paint. It will slow down the drying time, and become translucent. Please note it drys darker and more pronounced then when you apply it. Roll out the glaze paint mixture from top to bottom in one roller sections, drag a Strie brush or a chip brush down it. To produce vertical "stripes". It will look like wallpaper. Or you can drag it left to right as well.

Had the most incredible experience! Caroline is an expert color consultant and has extensive interior designer experience so I was in stellar hands. She and Kathryn showed me everything from wallpaper and area rugs to paints. They spent over an hour with me. The customer service is so caring, thoughtful and wise. Run don't walk to this establishment.

Project: 8'x8' living room accent wall in navy blue Veneziano plaster by Vasari Plaster using a 7"x4"x2"ish trapezoid trowel with a polished stainless steel blade. Absolutely Love My Vasari Veneziano Plaster Wall -- Even With My DIY Mistakes! I tackled an 8'x8' living room accent wall using Vasari's Veneziano plaster in navy blue with a 7"x4" trapezoid trowel. Let me start by saying: the final color isn't exactly the navy blue I envisioned--but I'm completely in love with it. I ended up with a rich indigo tone that shifts beautifully between navy and deep blue. Honestly, it turned out even better than what I hoped for. What amazes me most is how forgiving this product is. As a first-time DIY'er using Venetiano plaster, I made several mistakes along the way, but the Vasari product still delivered a stunning result. Here are a few things I did "wrong," and yet the wall still looks incredible: * I primed the wall with a high-quality water-based primer, not realizing it was a stain-blocking primer (a big no-no, as I learned later from Vasari's tutorials). I debated re-priming but decided to keep going--and it worked out fine. * My first coat was thicker than recommended. It's supposed to go on like smooth sour cream, but mine took extra strokes to spread. Between learning the "feel" of the trowel and working over a non-ideal primer, the surface wasn't as spreadable as it should've been. * Despite all that, I started seeing the artistic variation and texture I wanted right from the first coat. I loved the soft burnished sheen that appeared in spots, it gave the wall character and depth. After three coats, I stopped. The color is rich, textured, and full of subtle movement. It doesn't have that perfectly blended, ultra-smooth look from the demo videos, but that's not what I wanted. It's organic, a little imperfect, and absolutely beautiful. Lessons learned for next time: A. Buy the primer and tools directly from Vasari. B. Go lighter and smoother on the first coat to minimize unwanted shine and get better color absorption for later coats. In short, this product is bulletproof--it can handle beginner errors and still produce a high-end, artistic finish. I couldn't be happier with my wall or the journey getting there!

It peaked our interest and wouldn't you know it, there was an actual Farrow & Ball Paint Store 10 minutes from our apartment. I called on a Saturday late afternoon and spoke to Martin (Kesselman) explaining that we were interested in painting our house. Martin was able to steer us in the correct direction and made our vision come to life just by asking a few questions! With the distance between our project and Martin, there were many phone conversations, photos, and painting mistakes (I mixed the colours and made the bathroom look like a bandaid - not a good look!). Martin would set up times with us, and would want to see the progress and always asking for my thoughts and comments through the phases of the project. He was so patient responding to my frantic text and answering all my questions, and the why nots. Can't thank you enough for those calls! We now have a beautifully painted house (different colours in each room) that is warm and inviting (even with our shiny porcelain white floors). Thanks Martin, your passion for what you do really shows in how you are interested and invested in all your client's projects and helped me see through the incredible amount of colours (I wanted them ALL and I'm a white wall and ceiling person) to find the warm, calming palette which is now our home.

Jill Jurgensen a Color Consultant at Janovic on the Upper East side was exceptional. I am moving into a new apartment and had a color palette in mind but was not certain. After spending endless hours on pinterest and looking through design magazines I walked into the Janovic store without a decision. After a warm greeting Jill asked me some questions and looked at photo's of my new space and of the tear sheets I had. I showed her the colors I originally thought I wanted and within minutes she gave me other options explaining why and how the colors look saturated on an entire wall vs a small sample card. She gave me the new swatches, marked which room each was for, her card and offered additional assistance if I needed more information. I returned a few weeks later to re-assess and Jill was on her break. Although the other consultants offered to assist me I decided to wait for Jill. We reviewed the previous color options and again after some questions she was able to narrow the option to the colors that are now on my wall and I absolutely love. Jill turned an overwhelming decision into a pleasant interaction. I recommend anyone seeking color advice to visit her at the Upper East side Janovic location.
