After being referred to take my dress here I was extremely disappointed. I dropped my wedding dress off in September and was told it would not be a priority item and would therefore not be ready until late December. Fine, I did not have a problem with that. Upon picking up my dress, there was very noticeable discoloration on my buttons on the dress. The owner reached out to me 5 days later with no real good explanation or solution. After I provided the idea of getting replacement buttons from the designer he said "well 99% of the time that's not possible". I went ahead and asked the shop I bought my dress from if I could anyway and I was indeed able to get replacement buttons. It's now February and buttons will not be in until May. I asked to pick up my dress and get reimbursed for the buttons and the replacement of them done by my seamstress who recommended them. They said okay - with no other compensation. I asked if they would do anything else for me and they did provide a credit of $100 on a $350+ service. When finalizing the reimbursement, they let me know they had already removed all the damaged buttons from my dress which really disappointed me. I picked up my dress and will be handling all the repairs on my own. It was disappointing I had to ask for and tell them what they should do without being offered anything from the beginning. If I would have preserved my dress I would have never seen this issue until decades down the road. If you preserve your dress with them I would make sure you inspect the dress after it is cleaned before you lock it up in a box. Will not return. Initially, I'll admit--I was impressed. The services, the organization, the professionalism--it all looked great. However, you really see the true colors of a business when you have a complaint. That's when things changed. Once I raised a concern, the friendliness disappeared. Instead of accountability, I was met with defensiveness and blame--all because I questioned the pricing of my garments. As a customer, I expected professionalism, not accusations. It's unfortunate, because we had planned to do a lot of business with them. We buy quality pieces and often choose to dry clean them to maintain their condition. That doesn't mean we're unwilling to pay--but we do expect fair pricing. We dropped off about 10 items--mostly dresses, pants, and shirts. No printed estimate was provided, but I received a text saying the total would be around $200. That seemed a bit higher than some other cleaners, but I accepted it. I was told when the items would be ready, and I even said there was no rush. I stood there as the employee inspected and accepted each item. Later, they pushed the pickup date, which didn't bother me. But when I arrived, the bill had jumped to over $300--$346 to be exact. I was shocked. These were standard items, all of which I've had dry cleaned before without this kind of pricing. I asked for a manager. I was told the owner wasn't in. Ironically, the "manager" was the same man who had been so warm and friendly during drop-off. Now, his tone was cold and dismissive--as if I was wrong for questioning the charges. Two dresses alone cost $100 to clean--$50 each. One had a few rhinestones, and the other had some sequins on the shoulder. Neither was stained and both had only been worn once. One of the dresses cost $20--they were now charging more than twice that just to clean it. The other was a vintage piece with a simple patch of sequins. Nothing complicated. Then there was my husband's silk Versace shirt. They charged more because it was Versace. I was told the name warranted a higher price. That made no sense. It's a silk shirt, and should be treated like any other silk garment. I've already paid for the name--I'm not paying for it again just to get it cleaned. What made it worse? My husband also dropped off a Limited Edition Robert Graham shirt--covered in beading and worth several hundred dollars more than the Versace shirt. Yet they charged less for that one because they didn't recognize the name. That's when we realized: they charge based on what they think they can get away with. The last straw? They charged $8 to clean a small polyester handkerchief. My husband was furious. He called to ask how they determine their pricing. Suddenly, the "manager" became the "owner"--or maybe he was pretending. Either way, he dodged the question and got snippy. One of my t-shirts was returned covered in white lint--it looked awful. Had I not checked it before getting home, I would've been even more upset. They expected nearly $400 from us and were willing to return something in that condition? Unacceptable. My husband told them we wouldn't be returning and that we'd be writing a review. A fair price for good service is fine--we're happy to pay for quality. But we will not be hijacked at the dry cleaner. My wife and I have taken all our higher end clothes to Janet Davis for a few years. Let's face it they are not cheap. Recently I took my Burberry polo shirt to be clean, it came back discolored. When I showed them the shirt they said it wasn't supposed to be dry cleaned. So they said they weren't responsible for the discoloration. I would've thought a cleaners should check and double check. I will never go back to Janet Davis again and won't recommend them. read more

My husband and I got married in May 2023 and dropped off the wedding dress and suit a few days after the wedding. I should note that we don't often dry clean our garments and if we ever need to in the future, we will certainly not take them to Janet Davis. At the time of drop off, my husband's suit was expected to be ready for pickup within 2-3 weeks and I was told that my dress would be ready for pick up after Labor Day in September. I should note that my dress is fairly simple, it's a satin slip dress with no embellishments and I asked for a basic clean and steam, I did not get a preservation package. I asked why the dress cleaning would take so long and was told it's because many brides get their dress cleaned before the wedding as well, so my dress was sent to the back of the line for cleaning and would be pushed further if dresses were brought in with a wedding date sooner than my pickup date. This was really surprising since many dry cleaners have a 2-4 week turnaround even for special items. You would think that the longer you wait the more difficult stains will be to remove and priority would logically be based on drop off date. The main issue started with my husbands wedding suit. It was a lovely sage colored suit with matching sage shell buttons. Shell buttons are fragile and sensitive to heat and dry cleaning chemicals. Janet Davis did not take the time and care to remove or protect the buttons prior to cleaning, so all of the buttons on his suit broke. The negligence was very disappointing since this is such a sentimental item. About three weeks after we dropped off the suit, Janet Davis informed us that the buttons broke and that they were looking for replacements. Communication was very inconsistent from there. They said they would send photos of replacement buttons but never did. If we wanted to get an update and see the buttons they picked we had to stop by in person. We live 30min away so this was very inconvenient. We returned to the shop 3 times to look at buttons that absolutely did not match and left empty handed. They insisted that they couldn't find a suitable match for the original buttons but even I was able to quickly search and find a better match online. My husband returned to the shop once more this week (August) to finally pick up the suit. The buttons look nothing like the originals but at this point we are tired of going back and forth with Janet Davis and we've accepted that if we want matching buttons we'll have to do it ourselves. I should note that Janet Davis did refund the cost of dry cleaning the suit. While we appreciate it, we are still disappointed they didn't try hard enough to return the suit in its original condition. I received several messages about reviewing our experience. I rated our experience as 1 star and received a popup that said "leave a negative review here", so I clicked that link instead but it nothing happens. Beware, their reviews are likely inflated and they make it difficult to provide negative feedback. You can find more affordable dry cleaning at either New Magic Drycleaning in Royal Oak or Rembrandt, for blazers they charge around $9 and pants are $6.50 to $8. read more

I took my wedding dress in for a steam and press with only 3 weeks to go before my big day. I was a little stressed as they hadn't cleaned the dress prior to resale (bought it consignment) and the cleaners at janet Davis went above and beyond to make sure that it was spotted and looked perfect. They were so kind and understanding of short time frames and even did the spotting for free in light of the fact that they were unsure if they would be able to get it done on such short notice. I can't fathom the idea of dropping off my most expensive garments at a $2.29 cleaners in fear of them botching the job and ruining a piece of clothing I love. So for those special items that I plan on and want to last a lifetime, I bring them here every few months to freshen them up. We were in Detroit for a wedding and were staying at a friends house in Berkeley. We looked up the closest cleaners and it was Janet Davis. When I stopped by Thursday evening I spoke with Bree and said we had a shirt, a pair of pants and a dress that needed to be pressed and steamed but we needed them by noon the next day. She checked make sure it could be done and the next morning at noon all three items were done. Service was excellent.! Terrible customer service and support, will not be returning!! Did not get out spots requested, so they said bring it back for a redo, which I did. Said it would be done my Monday, but got text stating it would require "wet" clean, do we have your permission...........YES, but no acknowledgment from them. I called Monday at 6:25pm to talk with someone and no answer after several tries. I also sent a couple text, still NO reply!! Called Tuesday morning and talked with somone, Jenna, who said some should have told me the down jacket would take several more days!!! NO, on our way out of state and needed the jacket. The lady on phone said there is currently a lot of "miscommunication" between front desk staff and actual cleaning folks in the back! Total scam! Seriously. As a father of a girl who needed her high school her white formal dress cleaned, this place is outrageous. Because the dress was purchased as demo at a boutique, they called it a 'wedding gown'. Tried to charge my wife $170 to clean it, even though it is not a wedding gown and never worn. Kept saying place of purchase decided price. Counter girl kept going in back to speak to the owner, but the owner never came out. Jerk! Kept trying to up sell a wedding gown box package for serious $$$, but my daughter needs this dress to wear. Said it would take 2 and 1/2 months, but then begrudgingly said could be done in a month. When my wife asked how much to clean her dress for the formal, it was only $30, because it was not a wedding gown, despite being more ornate. After getting pissed, my wife left and called the bridal dress cleaning shop in Grosse Pointe. They said $30 and done in 2 weeks. I don't know what scam the wedding dress industry pulls on brides, but this is at the heart of the scam industry. As an elite reviewer, I never rant. This place deserves a negative rant. I got a letter from Kyle Matthews ("fanatical master cleaner at Janet Davis") saying " all I want to hear from you is... complaints" so hear goes. I have been going to Huntington and decided to try Janet Davis a try because its supposed to be the most high end cleaner in the area and I had a high end Givenchy dress shirt that I spilled a smoothie on. This was the first cleaning for the shirt and my first time trying Janet Davis. First they forgot to deliver the shirt and I had to call in and ask what happened to my shirt and the lady apologized and delivered it the next day. Easily Forgiven. However when I got the shirt back, the service might as well been the 1$ dry cleaning down the street. While most of the stain was gone there was still a stain on shirt that they appeared to have missed. More so on the edges of the collar and sleeves, fading was occurring. I have given shirts countless times to huntington and fading has never occurred and after this shirts first clean, fading occurs? Doesnt make sense. When you pay $10 to clean one shirt you expect better service and at least if they were having problems with a stain they should have made a note of informed me. I am going to stick with huntington which is cheaper and does and infinitely better job... Hope you like my complaint Kyle. read more

I recently started a new job that requires business attire every day, and as such, my dry-cleaning needs suddenly went through the roof. I picked Janet Davis because they offered (and I think maybe still do) to clean business suits for free for people who are unemployed and have job interviews. My husband was in that position a few years back, and we really appreciated a company that gives back to the community. So it was off to Janet Davis I tripped a few weeks back, with two pairs of pants in tow; one for a simple cleaning and another that needed lengthening after someone did a hack job on hemming them (I got second-hand designer pants at my SalArmy Boutique, of course). They do offer a pick-up/delivery service, and I might take advantage of it if Janet Davis wasn't on my way to work anyway. First thing in the morning, even during rush hour, parking is a breeze...I can't say that about Saturdays, but I'll get to that in a moment. I explained what I needed and was in and out in about three minutes. For standard cleaning it does take several days (this isn't a quickie one-hour place) so you have to pace your dry-cleaning out accordingly. When I picked up my pants, I was beyond pleased. Both pairs looked brand-new, and the pair I'd had lengthened (with almost zero selvedge left to work with) was done beautifully. Yes, the pricing is a bit higher than you'll pay at other dry cleaners or tailors, but for the convenience, quality, and friendly staff, I'm quite happy to pay it! One word of caution...I won't knock a star off since it isn't their fault, but I'd advise against visiting on a Saturday. Westborn Market is right next door (they pretty much share a parking lot) and although Janet Davis does have spots strictly reserved for their patrons, you still have to back out into a row of hostile road-raging Marketeers all fighting to get onto Woodward. Park in front (not on the side) to avoid that potential deathtrap. Definitely two-thumbs up and a hearty recommendation from me...especially after I got a postcard in the mail a couple of weeks later offering $10 off my next order if I completed a simple online survey. I haven't been impressed with services I've used in the past, but this is the FIRST dry cleaner that I have been satisfied with quality of their laundering, especially of my white shirts. Are they more expensive than others? Yes! But what good is paying $.99 per shirt for dry cleaning if you're not happy? Paying for unsatisfactory service...now that's a waste of money! Their prices are incredibly competitive and my clothes and sheets are delivered in the manner that Fishburns of Dallas used to deliver my parents' cleaning to our home in the 60's - very carefully handled and service that you just don't see anymore. My sheets were so soft and perfectly pressed. The first day I got my cleaning back, I got an email asking me how everything was and was there anything they could improve on. Anything domestic I despise...(except making brownies), so of course you gotta love a Dry Cleaner that delivers your clothes and bills you monthly. I don't use Janet Davis that much, in fact, it's been a minute since I lived in Miami for two years, but the building never changed and the service (last time I checked) remains great. If you want to preserve a wedding gown or anything of value, I would definitely suggest entrusting them to clean it for you. I just switched dry cleaners, from another nearby dry cleaners who shall remain nameless. I have to say, I am EXTREMELY HAPPY, and I am wondering why I did not switch sooner. Finally, my clothes are being pressed and returned the way a request. I am a mom of 2 kids, under 3. My clothes, work and non-work related take a beating. I have to wear women's suits and dress shirts to work; all are returned perfect - the fit, the feel is great. They get out formula, and other yucky baby things - and the material is left unchanged. Totally a different experience from my other cleaners who would try and lift stains and lift the color out - Janet Davis is trained well. I recently had a cocktail dress cleaned there as well. Had champagne that spilled on silk. After going to 3 dry cleaners in the area, who warned me of color change and wanted to me sign I waiver, Janet Davis lifted the mark with no problem. The dress itself did not need to be dry cleaned but the owner was quick to remove all the stains and allow me to leave within 10 minutes with my beautiful, new now stain free dress. WOW! My daughter wanted her baby girl to wear the same christening gown and hat that she had worn 41 years ago. This gown had been in a plastic bag in a box all those years. I had not preserved it as I never expected that it would be worn again. Therefore, it had yellowed in places and had an overall "tired" look. Janet Davis Cleaners returned it to its original white ... it looked brand new and was absolutely beautiful! We could not have been more pleased. Also a note about my interactions with their personnel. Everyone was very friendly, cordial and took care of business.
