Someone at work recommended Honeymoon Chicken to me, and let me tell you--they were SPOT ON!…read moreI stopped in with a friend for a late lunch on a Friday afternoon, and I literally ate everything on my plate. The seasoning was on point, and the chicken was perfectly crispy on the outside and deliciously tender inside. And that roll?! It tasted like a sweet Hawaiian roll on steroids. SO good! The sides were equally amazing and definitely held their own. I don't know exactly how Honeymoon Chicken got its name, but after eating this chicken, I can absolutely see how it could put you in that honeymoon phase. It was THAT good! I'll definitely be back for more.

The Red Hot Dust was especially good, and I loved that they have both fried chicken and lobster options on the menu. That said, the service was unfortunately disappointing during our visit. We received the wrong side sauce and had to ask for water, plates, silverware, and napkins. I also wanted to add a couple more things to our order, but it took so long for someone to come back around that we eventually just gave up on adding them. It felt like we had to repeatedly ask for basic things throughout the meal, which took away from what could have been a really great dining experience. Overall, I would come back for the food because it was genuinely amazing, but I hope the service improves because the food definitely deserves better hospitality.

Spicy chicken sandwich, fries, nugs, and shakes are always consistent and what I expect. Thats all I want from fast food. My only real complaint is that the fries could be larger (company policy, not stores) and could be salted more.

This is a clean store as well and the bathroom require a code, which I wish they printed on the receipt - I had to reline up to ask for the code. Spicy chicken sandwich almost always delivers. And that's the highlight and the good today ended there. My lesson learned is that customizing or removing anything might be tricky since they're working so fast that despite it being spelled out, it still gets missed. I don't mind going back to ask for sauces that were missed, or asking for a replacement since the modification wasn't made. But I think what really was unfortunate and really dampened my experience was they threw away the salad in front of me (I have a weak spot for wasting food). I really think we have enough food for everyone, but hunger exists in part because of this practice. And I know some people pull this trick to get another one for free, and that's also disgraceful. I wish Chik Fil A did something different to be a faith influenced company of being good steward of food. I wrote a private feedback as well but haven't heard back after a week.

My grilled chicken was moist, flavorful, and cooked very well. The fried catfish was not too salty and had great balance where you can taste the fish. The mac and cheese, cabbage, and green beans were all of nice quality, the weakest link is the potato salad, however that is a dish that can be complicated for different restaurants to get the hang of, fortunately I can prepare some awesome potato salad myself. The peach half and half drinks were balanced perfectly well not too sugary and sweet. I swear some of these places make drinks way too sweet and you want to check your insulin levels. The server was highly attentive and a great conversationalist and paid attention to our wants and needs and had superb professionalism and a strong work ethic. He was hospitable and accommodating. The staff was friendly and approachable. We had fun and enjoyed this more than Milk and Honey and even Carolina Kitchen. DC keeps gentrifying and losing its soul, but there are still some hidden gems around. This spot blends in with the Walmart, and funnily enough I have driven past here a gazillion of times and assumed it was some bakery or another spot and did not know it was a soul food joint, something DC has been minimizing and pushing out to Maryland like the city always does. I think it is masterful that they use clear plastic containers for their food making it easier for the staff as that can be expensive and time consuming with the dish washing/prep, sound economical move. It is nice that the business (U Street etc. location) has been in the DMV for over 20 years and expanded to Baltimore in Fells Point. I think Baltimore will like this spot! This felt authentic and soulful in a way that I had not experienced in the city in quite some time, as the city has had a lot of restaurants be sterile, bland, flavorless, and catered to certain demographics while completely ignoring others. I liked the soundtrack with R&B and was able to hear some TLC on the soundtrack which was very nostalgic and a throwback to DC before the gentrification when it was truly Chocolate City! Overall, it is a spot that you can visit more than once certainly not a one and done like a lot of restaurants that lack service, food, and ambiance/vibe.

The avocado toast topped with a perfectly poached egg topped with Japanese black sesame seeds is my go-to order, and the sandwiches are consistently good. Their cocktails are excellent, and the bar side makes a great venue for private parties or larger gatherings. I am apparently in the miniscule minority, but I find the drip coffee a bit too dark and somehow slightly burnt for my taste. Fortunately, they make an outstanding Dirty London Fog and a wonderful London Fog Chai Latte, either of which I'd happily order instead. All manner of alternative "milks" are available as are a pretty decent selection of local beers in their cooler if you are grabbing take out. Be prepared for a wait on weekends--this is one of Takoma Park's most popular brunch destinations. Like many cafés these days, it's a favorite of laptop-wielding remote workers, so tables can be at a premium. In my experience, though, solo diners are often gracious about moving to the communal table when they notice [or more likely are asked polietly if they wouldn't mind moving] a larger group waiting. It's just one more example of the friendly neighborhood atmosphere that keeps people coming back.
