We had looked at a number of indian catering venues in the tri-state area. If you're looking around, you may notice their prices are slightly higher but trust me when I tell you it's surely well worth it. The food. Was. Excellent. Having been to what feels like a million indian weddings/engagements I can say their service and food is exceptional. One of my friends said "Man, I never get seconds at these things, the food was great!" If your parents and in laws are worried about what venue you pick, go with Mirage. Every uncle and Aunty will go home happy. The live stations for appetizers were well staffed and kept everyone's plates full. The bartenders worked extra hard for our crowd and the waitstaff was on point, providing baskets of fresh naan for every table. Shekar also has a number of vendors to recommend for stage decor which was helpful to us. Bottom line, they're doing something right and your event is in good hands.

Last Saturday, we had the pleasure of attending a Sweet 16 party at this venue, and it left us with…read morea mix of impressions, from the grandeur of the ballroom to some notable service quirks. The grand ballroom made an impressive first impression, with its tasteful lighting and well-decorated chairs and tables. However, it was noted that the absence of an elevated stage was a missed opportunity, even a modest one-foot platform could have enhanced the visual appeal of the hall. The culinary journey began with a delightful array of appetizers. The spinach fritters, accompanied by yogurt, chutney topping, and a spicy powder, stood out as a true culinary gem. The addition of this spice powder accentuated the flavors and made it a memorable dish. My personal favorite, Vada Pav, was also on the menu, and I couldn't resist enhancing its taste with a sprinkle of the spicy powder. The bar and appetizer service took place outside the hall, and here we encountered a few service hiccups. The bartender was notably absent, which led to a bit of confusion among the guests. However, a friendly waiter came to our rescue and promptly served our drinks when requested. The situation at the bar took an unexpected turn when another bartender, who seemed to be in a pleasant mood at first, began using profanity in a soft tone when asked why he wasn't present. His exact words "Get the fuck out of here" to his own co-worker - ten times in front of all the guests who are waiting in line at the Bar and in front of the guests who are getting their appetizers. This unexpected exchange, while bizarre, didn't overshadow the overall experience but left us a bit bewildered. Moving on to the main course, it was exactly as expected in a Mughal restaurant - rich and creamy, fulfilling the culinary desires of guests. The dessert spread was a highlight of the evening. The Moong Dal Halwa was a standout, leaving a lasting impression with its superb taste. The quality of the Kulfi was exceptional, rounding out the meal on a sweet note. The ambiance was elevated by a dance floor with flashing colorful lights, adding a lively touch to the event. The combination of good music, delectable food, and a pleasing atmosphere contributed to an enjoyable evening. In conclusion, the Sweet 16 party at this venue offered a blend of grandeur, delicious food, and vibrant ambiance. While the service quirks at the bar were unusual, they didn't overshadow the overall positive experience. The standout appetizers, rich main course, and delectable desserts ensured a satisfying culinary journey. The addition of the dance floor and good music added to the overall charm of the event, leaving us with fond memories of a night filled with good food and enjoyable moments.

I say this because as it seems lately all we hear about is the death and despair we face as a community. There are a few people who's compassion and willingness to help others restores my faith in humanity. Matthew 25:35 says, For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me. Lystra Lennard and her staff at Venue 518 yesterday did just that as the bible says....... She welcomed and fed people in her community yesterday, no matter what walk of life you came from. Her selfless generosity set an example that as a community together we can help one another persevere. Our first responders, health care workers , grocery clerks, police , and fireman are all heroes in my eyes , but so are the leaders of our community who's feeling of empathy and commiseration feeds our people that are truly in need. So for that I say "Thank You Venue, Lystra , and the volunteers" you are an inspiration that together we shall overcome. #NJSTRONG

For example, in the orchestra you don't want seats from row Q to the rear or on the extreme sides because the sight and sound is not good. And in the balcony you don't want seats from row H on up. Otherwise acoustics and sight lines are good. Bathrooms maintained well. Ushers helpful. Security at entrance professional. They have all kinds of shows here. I wish they scheduled more blues, like Kenny Wayne Shepherd 10/2/26 and rock, like Joe Jackson 7/8/26. Parking in New Brunswick downtown is in parking garages. Staff were organized and friendly. I had my purse searched upon entry; all bags were looked at. My ticket was purchased through Vivid Seats, and apparently they didn't provide me a legit theater-issued QR so I had to visit the box office. They were friendly and promptly issued me printed tickets. Lobby was a con because it's just small and cramped. This old building probably didn't have to house as much food and merch purchasing back in its day but the multiple concession lines were blocking people from just getting to the theater and accessing their seats. They have tons of low quality junk food for sale. The huge group sitting next to us had chicken fingers, fries, a ketchup smell that wouldn't go away... it was honestly ridiculous the food they allow in people's laps just to turn profits. I was surprised these people were buying full huge meals (that had to cost $40+ each for junk) at 3:30pm to hold it in their laps for a 1.75h kids' show. Whatever. Point is, if you haven't eaten and want to pay $40 for crap that will linger in your body, you will not go hungry here. Clean bathrooms were the right size to allow a packed house to process themselves in the 20min intermission timeframe. This includes the ladies room, which always takes longer, and it was for a kids' show, which adds even more time. I recommend pairing your visit with the Rutgers Zimmerli Art Museum if you have time. They are open until 6pm most nights.

I wasn't able to make the Sat morning…read moreaccession because I was out late on Friday but it worked out as balloons did not ascend that morning. We came for Sunday morning and had to wake up bright and early to make the drive down. The event is super well organized with many signs and people pointing to the parking lot. Be prepared with cash for the $10 parking. Yup people charging for parking in the middle of a field in NJ. Wish they would just add the price of parking to the ticket price. Also they are very strict about bottles of water and made us throw out our bottles even though barely any vendors are open for the morning accession. I had to rate it a 4 stars because of how much fun I had and I think if you don't get a chance to see the balloons ascend, it's pretty much a bust - so gambling on the weather for the weekend. Fortunately weather worked out for me - look at all the balloons. Love that they played music while balloons are inflating and when they are released - for example they played the Tasmanian devil soundtrack when it took off. There was barely a breeze on the ground but the winds higher up must have been wild because the balloons did not even hang around and quickly went out of view. Therefore I wasn't able to get the shot of probably like 40 plus balloons in the sky. Right after the balloons took off, they had a 5K and the human cannonball was the starting gong! Very exciting start to the race. We then went for a tethered ride which was 25 bucks for 2 minutes in the air and total 5 minutes (getting in and out and going up). Worth it to float above ground and get a sense of you feel comfortable in a balloon basket before spring for 200 per person for a real balloon ride. We didn't hang around for the rest of the day but your ticket allows you to re enter so if you did live nearby you could probably come back during the evening for the afternoon accession. Tips: - check the weather forecast before buying tickets (the organizers cannot control the weather and they need perfect weather for balloons to go up) - bring lots of cash - be open minded and have loads of fun.
