I am not very religious but in these unprecedented times of uncertainty one can look deep amongst themselves to find comfort. I say this because as it seems lately all we hear about is the death and despair we face as a community. There are a few people who's compassion and willingness to help others restores my faith in humanity. Matthew 25:35 says, For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me. Lystra Lennard and her staff at Venue 518 yesterday did just that as the bible says....... She welcomed and fed people in her community yesterday, no matter what walk of life you came from. Her selfless generosity set an example that as a community together we can help one another persevere. Our first responders, health care workers , grocery clerks, police , and fireman are all heroes in my eyes , but so are the leaders of our community who's feeling of empathy and commiseration feeds our people that are truly in need. If I could give this place ZERO, I would. My sister is having her first child and is due in a few months. She wanted to have a baby shower at this Venue. Unfortunately, because of the current Covid Pandemic, we are not able to have the baby shower. It's MANDATORY. So, we called the venue, assuming that they would understand the circumstances and asked them to refund our deposit. We would have NEVER cancelled. We printed invitations and everything! We HAD to cancel. The result, well, they said they can't give us our deposit because we agreed on that date already but they are more than willing to move it to a later date. IT'S A BABY SHOWER. The UNBORN BABY is not waiting for this Covid Pandemic to go away. She's due when she's due! My sister is upset enough not being able to spend any time with family and friends during a time that's supposed to be wonderful. She's afraid of the risk and harm that can come to herself and the baby! And now she has to worry about not getting her deposit back! A $500 deposit is not a small amount!! And then, they kept saying it's "corporate"s decision. Is this a chain?? Don't you have insurance on your business?? I don't understand. The last time I checked this was a privately owned business. I personally booked an event for this weekend, and had to cancel and when I called the venue I was using they gave me my deposit back immediately. They said they understood the situation. I didn't even have to ask!! And my event wasn't for a baby shower. It was just a regular party. I also called in the beginning of this whole Covid thing, when events weren't being forced to be cancelled yet! I am so upset for my sister and this place in my opinion is HORRIBLE. Unfortunately I have to give this Venue one star. My mother had a deposit for catering for March 22, 2020, the day NJ shutdown. Obviously since canceling our party was out of our control, we were hoping to receive a refund. A first email said, yes we will refund you after April 15th. Then a second email saying no refund, it was in the contract; it wasn't in the contract. I decided to use the deposit for my son's birthday this past weekend. When I first reached out no one responded. Once I finally got through, I booked the catering and thought maybe this was the end of the issues, but they continued. I spoke with Lysta twice two days before my pickup to confirm, etc. Day of my mother was picking up the food at 1. She hit some traffic and I'm getting a semi unfriendly voicemail asking where I was at 1:07. Upon pickup, they refused a credit card saying it was cash only. No one ever told me cash only (even though she was sarcastically telling my mom she told me and it was my fault I didn't relat the message) nor does it say it on their contract. This topped off how frustrating it was to work with this venue. Cash only seems odd to me since there is no way to track. Food was 5 stars! Customer service was 0 stars. read more

We have had the absolute pleasure of hosting a bunch of parties at Madeline's and we, along with our guests, left super happy! Staff is amazing, food is delicious AND you get a bang for your buck! The lady who runs the show works around you, gives you choices after choices of clothes, linens, food choices etc., She's wonderful! We had our ski club 50th anniversary party there in October. We were pleasantly surprised with the Quality of the food and the service. We had a small room for 30 people. It is nice that they have different size rooms. The large parking lot is also nice. read more

After looking a a number of other venues, my wife and i came across Venue 518 to host my daughter's Holy First Communion and Father-in-Law's 60th Birthday celebration. During my first walk through i was pleased with the size cleanliness of the rooms and the decor available. The flexibility of the menus, and the offerings and the competitive prices sealed the deal. On the day if the event there is not a bad thing which could be uttered about Lystra, Mary of any of the hospitable staff which worked our event, their welcoming helpful and courteous attitudes made a hectic day come off without a hitch. Lastly and i will say for me and my guest best of all, the food was wanting for better words, AWESOME !!! read more

Venue 518 hosted our Girl Scout's troop Father/Daughter Dance and we could not have been more pleased! From beginning to end, everything about the experience was wonderful. Lystra, the owner is amazing to work with - so professional, accommodating, friendly and genuinely a nice person. She is thorough and mindful of even the smallest details. The updated decor and menu were a positive change from the last party I had there in 2016. I would absolutely recommend Venue 518 and am looking forward to Venue 518 hosting our third party in May for my daughter's communion. read more

Good food but they take advantage of you!!!! Be careful at the end how they try to get more money. I recently had my fathers repass at Madeline's in December of 2019. The place came highly recommended from a family friend. I signed a contract that had 18% gratuity added. At the end of the event, the owner came over and asked me if I would like to tip the help. I stated I prepayed a 18% gratuity when I had to pay in full 10 days prior to event. She then told me that 18% gratuity mostly goes to the state and it would be nice if I would tip the servers. I having been so drained from the funeral just said how much are you looking for? She recommended an amount of 150.00 and told me to make the check out to cash. My family was so upset when they found out later. I was completely taken advantage of. I paid sales tax as well and that goes to the state. I ended up paying a 29% tip. It left a really bad impression that she lied and said gratuity on the bill went to the state and not to the girls and then had me pay more. At any other time I would of questioned more but I really was just so overwhelmed with grief. I do not recommend this facility. They were unethical in their way of doing business. read more

Venue 518 is EXCELLENT!! We have had our annual Club Christmas party there for the last two years (and two years prior to that when they were on Easton Ave) and they have been wonderful! We plan to return yearly. Lystra and her staff are friendly, accommodating, helpful and flexible. The prices are reasonable and the food is outstanding! There is a huge variety of menu choices, and our members love everything. It is one of the few events I organize where I get NO complaints from our members, only compliments. The banquet rooms are a perfect size (we LOVE the fireplace room, very cozy) and well decorated. I highly recommend this venue for any event. read more

I've had many events here in the garden room and for the money its well worth it.. The food is decent & the lady Mary is knowledgeable and helpful. I will he holding my son's 1st birthday here in a few weeks and i'm sure it will be great! read more

I just completed my husband's 50th birthday party. My guest had a wonderful time. This was all because the food was awesome. The DJ was great!. The hall was beautifully decorated for us, we just had to add our center piece. Also, throughout the planning process, everything was laid out so in a simple and easy way. All my expectations were met, I would definitely use them again for my next catering event. read more

I have NO idea what the person who wrote the other review is talking about. The "lady who runs the show" is completely rude and doesn't care about what the person PAYING for the party wants! Only cared and was nice during the first meeting. As soon as she got her money and signed contract she turned into a nasty person! Had a friend that was gonna have a party here and I told her to not do it. I hope this lady knows she's losing out on business as what happened to me is not the first time this has happened. I've heard horrible stories from multiple people! They also have NO sense of time management! Please take your business else where, TRUST ME! All they care about is themselves and their money! Will also fine you $150 if you're ONE PERSON under the minimum!(room for 50+ but you end up with 49). It's ridiculous! read more

Had been to a party here before so was excited to have our own. Food was disappointing! Chicken piccata and pasta was not good. When it came to dessert the rice pudding cups came out FROZEN!!! We couldn't bring in our own dessert besides a cake and that is what we get???? So embarrassing when we were throwing the party. There were several parties going on and they seemed overwhelmed. Sales manager was not the friendliest at times. The staff who helped the day of was amazing though!! Will not be having another party here and will not recommend to anyone. read more

Had the opportunity of working yesterday night at Madeleine's on the Vosseller with our entertainment business as a Dj. The place was very nice and by the guest notice that the food was great as well. But I was very disappointed with the service staff manager. The event ended at 10pm which my guest expect me to play till then and after that we need time to get our equipment together and pack up. The service manager came to let me know that I had 30 mins to pack up and leave. I told him that I need it more time than that because of the complexity of our equipments since we provide lights, speakers, and all our Dj machines that go along with it. He very rudely responded it was not his problem and that regardless had only 30 minutes. As I'm getting stuff together before I could turn off all my machines he turned the circuit breaker off. Shocked as what just happened told him that he didn't have to that and it could cause big damages to our expensive equipment. To what he responded that he didn't care because his boss had insurance and could pay for the damage equipment. Could not believe his rudely respond and attitude. Have worked at many places but never have encounter anything like this. read more
