Since my first review, I've had my frenectomy and gum graft. Both turned out perfectly. Dr. Choi is a remarkable periodontist and an extremely kind person. There isn't a lot that I can say about my procedures other than they couldn't have gone any better. After both, Dr. Choi called me from his home on the evenings of the procedures to make sure everything was OK. He also offered his home phone in case I needed something. I've had something called Tori under my gums. They're small bony growths. I think it's pretty common, but I had one that was sharp and was starting to cause problems. I received a quote at one point for about $5,000 to remove two spots. I really only needed the one removed as the other wasn't a problem at all. During my graft procedure, Dr. Choi removed the troublesome spot and refused to accept any sort of compensation. Not only was this incredibly kind of him, but it helped me avoid future expense, pain and recovery. While it may not seem like a big deal, it was. By doing this for me, Dr. Choi puts himself on the hook for any liability or complications resulting from that work. That's a pretty big deal and I'm grateful to have met this man and to have had him do my work. read more

Dr. Choi was recommended to me by my regular dentist Dr. Chacon (who is fabulous!). I needed gum grafting, and even though I am a complete wuss on these things, Dr. Choi and his staff were marvelous. He explained everything he would do "in plain English" without the medical mumbo-jumbo. Everyone treated me very respectfully and with great warmth. He showed me a PowerPoint of the procedure so I knew what to expect. On the day of the procedure, everything went great. I was nervous, and it was so nice that his assistant patted my hand when he gave me the shots to numb the surgical site. He provided his cell number for questions and I thought that was great. No one wants to have periodontal work done, but if you need it, then go to this doctor. He and his staff were courteous, professional, warm, caring, and really great. Dr. Choi explained what needed to be done and my options. As most people I am little reluctanct to see the dentist until it is absolutely required. His procedures went smoothly and I was more than pleased with his work. It was a rather extensive periodontal procedure and he followed up with a phone call that evening to see how I was doing. I have never had a doctor do that. I have since returned to him for more work and I would highly reccommend his to anyone. read more

Dr. Choi is a very skilled, knowledgeable and gentle Periodontist. He pulled a tooth for me and subsequently gave me an implant. Both were a first for me. It was all seamless. He explained the process all very well, both pre- and post-procedures as well as swelling/pain management, if any. They use nitrous oxide which is a plus for me. The dental chair is extremely comfortable (massage-setting). The office staff is very pleasant and they explain/breakdown the fees clearly so you know what to expect. The office is in an office park with ample parking. I was able to get all of my questions answered in follow-up visits and consultation appointment. read more

After reading all the great yelp reviews, I am very disappointed with my consultation. From the moment I walked in, he didn't even introduce himself. He immediately just start measuring my gum lines. Also, Dr. Choi was very rude and impatient when I did not have my x-rays sent to his office. In most cases, all the dentist I have seen would take new x-rays in their office or have me wait a few minutes to have my general dentist office send him the x-rays while he can work on another patient in the meantime. But he did none of these. Instead, he asked me to come back another day and did not explain anything about the gum grafting procedure. His tone was very condescending and I did not find this consulation very useful. read more

I was referred to Dr Choi and wasn't able to get in for 6 weeks. Upon arriving early and filling out the necessary paperwork, I was taken to the exam room where I was asked the same questions that I just answered on the paperwork. Dr Choi seemed nice and confirmed that I needed a procedure but when I asked for the price he had to confirm with the front desk. No big deal. He came back and told me that I needed to speak with the front desk. The lady at the front desk said that she couldn't give the estimate because she wasn't able to verify my insurance since she had been looking at the wrong insurance plan and didn't know that until I came in with the card. She said that she couldn't get a hold of anyone at delta dental because they were all in a meeting. I then asked her why she hadn't called me in the past 6 weeks to get the information she needed to get an estimate prior to my appointment. She said she tried to call my dentist that referred me but didn't get a hold of them. I again reiterated my expectation that she should have called me or continue Jed to call my dentist over the past 6 weeks. She then said, "yea, but I didn't". Frustrated with having spent 1.5 hours driving, filling out paperwork, and listening to her explain her incompetence, I told her that I was leaving and not coming back. OK, looks like "Patty S. " gave Dr. Choi a ONE star review on this site and yet the review reflects absolutely NOTHING about this dentist's competence. This is the problem with YELP. The public has no clue how to rate a healthcare professional. Pathetic. This is NOT a reason to give a fabulous dentist a one star review. Poor staff shouldn't pull down a good doctor's rating. I'm in health care and familiar with Dr Choi's work, reputation and skill. He's also a graduate of UCSF School of Dentistry which is one of the best dental schools in the country and one of the hardest dental schools to be accepted into. He did an amazing job for my husband's issue. He has an incredible reputation among the medical and dental professional community who know what to look for. I will put up with an incompetent front desk staff to get the best. Furthermore, this reviewer has a discounted dental plan and expects the staff to focus their time on an insurance issue -- sounds a bit entitled. REALLY? Great doctors who are focusing on their skills, diagnosis, medical and professional issues for their patients don't always have time to watch what their staff is doing and to be the perfect business people. read more

Nobody enjoys going to the dentist, or periodontist. And nobody expects a pleasant experience for any sort of surgical procedure. However, Dr. Choi's level of professionalism and his skill made my experience more than bearable. Scheduling was easy. The start of the appointments were prompt. Comfort level due to bedside manner of Dr. Choi and his entire staff was great. Procedure was smooth. Finally the results look fantastic. Thank you to Dr. Choi and everyone at his office. read more

I saw Dr. Choi for a dental examination, after the first visit I left feeling that they are money hungry. They recommended procedures that i feel where not needed. I am glad I went some where else. read more
