I gave writing this review a lot of thought. I do base many of my purchases and services on reviews and I think it's important for people to tell of their experiences with services. Especially when significant investment is involved. I chose Jamco because I personally knew the owner and the work he had done for many years. The owner is minimally involved and his son Tyler has taken over the business. Had I realized how inexperienced Tyler is, I would not have chosen Jamco.
The initial estimates were acceptable. I loved the cabinet line. There was not really any design involved as the footprint was being replaced for the most part. Tyler is not a designer and can give no suggestions as to what cabinet and countertop would look good together. He has samples, so I was able to figure it out on my own. I informed Tyler that my contractor who was doing the demo, floors, ceilings, and walls would not be ready for the cabinets for a couple of weeks or so. Tyler said that was fine "I can store them in my shop since there aren't many". Tyler ordered the cabinets and they came arrived in about 10 days. A few days after they arrived, I start getting pressure from Tyler about having the cabinets delivered to my home. I had no place to store them inside or out as the work being done in the house would make it difficult for the contractor to work around. A few days pass, and more pressure to deliver the cabinets. Tyler reports "he has no room for them". Tyler also requested that he be updated "daily" with the progress on the kitchen. Since I am not one to be pushed, I told Tyler I will rent a storage unit down the street from my home. They can be delivered there. Tyler responds, "No, I will keep them, no stress" after it appeared to be a crisis with all the texts. Tyler stored the cabinets for a total of 10 days.
All the kitchen installation is subcontracted out. I was pleased my contractor was able to "guide" the installer with a couple of suggestions. The installer did rip out a piece of sheetrock about an electrical outlet that had to be repaired by my contractor.
I think what really did it for me was the quartz countertop. Tyler informed me that the quartz comes in 25 and 50-square-foot slabs. I needed 27 square feet. Tyler said that the remnant will remain at the quartz fabrication location. When it sells, I will get a profit (several hundred dollars). I happen to visit the fabrication business in Safety Harbor. There were many remnants there inside and out. I looked around. I told the owner that Tyler said a left-over piece of quartz with my name on it at his site. He looked around with me and asked me how big it was. The owner stated that the slabs come in 44 square feet and if the leftover is 15 square feet or less, he throws it out. Depending on how my slab was cut, chances are there were 15 or fewer square feet. I text Tyler and asked him about it. He said he would get back to me. That was 4 weeks ago.
So, no. I would not recommend this company simply for the fact that the communication from Tyler is extremely poor. Yes, I know it's busy, but if you're too busy trying to run a business and be educated about the trade simultaneously, running a business may not be a good path. read more
