I finally had a chance to try Fufu from The Taste of Africa along with some other dishes and I'm…read morehappy to have had the opportunity. The fufu with peanut soup was a vegetarian dish and besides having a nice aroma, the taste was just as top tier. The pounded yam with egusi was my favorite as you really can't beat how fresh and delicious this was. The pieces of goat and beef along with chilis, onions, peppers and I believe the other bits were either squash or pumpkin was amazing. The jollef rice could have been a little less wet, but I'm not an expert in this field. I still enjoy it, but slightly drier would have been my preference. The honey jerk chicken was juicy and tender. It was full of flavor and the sweetness balanced the savory well. Everything was made fresh and even though it was for a take out order, everyone loved it.

This restaurant was small, but felt very cozy (as if you're visiting someone's home)! There were a…read morelot of customers that came here for take out, but my friend and I opted to dine in. We ordered the egusi and spinach stew and it came with a big portion of fufu as well. All of their stews also come with goat meat and beef, which was really nice. This was our first time trying fufu and we were given a bowl of warm water to wash our hands and no utensils. My friend and I got to learn how to eat fufu and we really enjoyed it! The soup was very flavorful and spicy and paired well with the fufu. It was very filling so we had leftovers (I think this meal can be shared between 3-4 people)! I am definitely going to try their other soups.

Have you ever had Ethiopian food before?…read more Nope, neither have I. I was hanging out with a friend from across town & I wanted to try dinner at another restaurant further up on Commercial Dr. So we decided on drinks here first at Harambe Ethiopian Restaurant, while we waited for our standby reservation to come through at the other restaurant. My friend had been here before & highly recommended we come back again to eat. I got to try Ethiopian Honey Wine for the first time. It was refreshingly delicious. Sat at the bar & chilled. Saw various dishes coming out of the kitchen & the look & smell were causing my stomach to growl. Got to meet the owner Daniel - a very nice gentleman. He has been running this restaurant now for over 25 years. He expressed that times are hard, as noted by all the restaurant closures all over Metro Vancouver. But he's hanging in there so if you want to try Ethiopian food - consider Harembe & support local. Look out for more food pictures sometime in the later part Spring when I return.

I was excited to try Ethiopian food as it has been a while since I had last tried. I went with a…read morefriend for dinner and there were plenty of tables available with no reservation on a Saturday evening. I got the chef's choice combination and my friend got the veggie lovers combination. The food arrived relatively promptly and it was presented as a nice spread. Eating with our hands was a neat experience to enjoy the food the traditional way. The server told me to mix all the ingredients together but I wanted to taste each item first. Perhaps mixing it all would have been better as there were a couple items I found their taste to be a bit strong on their own. Personally I also found it on the oily side. The injera was great at soaking it all up but I was unable to finish the injera that was served at the bottom of all the ingredients at the end, with all the oil that was there. Overall it was a great experience and if I were to return, I would skip the combo and order a dish I liked.

Was a bit intimidated to try Simbas because I can't handle very spicy foods…read more I ordered the mchaguzi wa chef (chef special for 2), which is a sample of several things. All of the food was flavorful, and not spicy. Instead, the order came with 5 different sauces, of which 2 could make me cry. So grateful to have these served on the side! Definitely a great addition to this neighborhood.

Tasty but pricey East African (Indian) place on Canada Way at Boundary…read more Parking is available in front of the restaurant (S side), as well as on Canada Way. The building is quite new and modern, and so is this place. Some nice decorations such as figurines and tapestries on the wall. Staff were very friendly and helpful. No complaints. There was an older gentleman who chatted with us a bit and answered our questions. Pretty sure he was the head chef/owner. Buddy and I were unsure what to have, so the waiter recommended the chef's platter (Mchaguzi wa Chef). This platter includes samaki bites (fried tilapia), kuku choma (BBQ marinated chicken), kebabs (minced lamb), and mishkaki (skewers of beef). Served with a pile of rice underneath and a pile of salad. There was also some naan and a bowl of spinach machica (mashed spinach cooked in curry sauce). There was also a plate with small containers of yogurt, tamarind sauce, and shredded coconut. Rather interesting combo. Everything was very tasty, though my buddy was convinced the deep fried tilapia was the frozen supermarket variety. No idea if this is true. The other thing that was special here is they sold Tusker beer which is from Kenya. Never seen it anywhere before, so it was definitely interesting to try. The bottles are 500mL too. Food was definitely on the pricer side, but my buddy and I did leave satisfied. Not sure if I'd eat here regularly, but I wouldn't mind coming back. The food was delicious.

Great food, Customer Service was excellent …read more I highly recommend this place. Enjoyed the ambiance

The owner Naz was very warm and hospitable. He went around checking on customers and us very often…read moreand thanked us for coming when we were waiting to pay our bill. We were a big group of 12 including infant and toddler and they managed everything beautifully. Another big group of 10+ came in when we were leaving around 9+ pm. The place was not huge but they can do big groups. Reservations recommended. This was my second time trying East African/Indian food. I still didn't know much about it. R and I shared a choma (grilled) platter which had 3 types of meat, choice of carbs and raw vegs. The server recommended Chicken Serena which was grilled chicken with some sauce and herbs. This was my favorite dish. The chicken was tender and flavorful. The other two meats were the beef ribs (pretty good) and Mishkaki (skewer beef - a bit dry and hard). I love the masala potatoes which was the best thing on the platter. The raw vegs looked like coleslaw without any sauce. It was just a dab of sauce on the side. Not enough for the shredded vegs. I also had the masala chai which was very weak and very bland. Skip this tea. R tried the on tap beer - Baadshah Pilsner - a south Asian craft beer produced by Magic Malt Brewing in Langley. Interesting. Good to try for $5. There was also live music. It can get quite loud when they were singing. Nice patio out front and parking on street and in their lot.
