Bridge of Allan is a strange place as I've never seen so many cafe's and tea rooms in such a small village, I was meeting up with a friend and being over an hour early I went here to try them out. Still a pretty new looking place that's bright, modern and very clean, with the weather being cold and raining outside I needed a hot drink to warm me up. I sat near the back area of the cafe where I could see a log burner on display, not sure if this was an ornament but could have done with being lit. I chose the large latte with a slice of the fruit loaf, service was quick but the young server placed my order at the opposite end of the table than in front of me, with the knife being placed blade towards me, I've been in the hospitality trade for over 25 years and this is the first time that I've seen this. In the time I was there that was a whole twenty minutes I was asked for my order twice even though I already placed it at the bar, the confusion was that the servers where not assigned a particular section and clearly didn't know what they where doing. Went in for breakfast on a cold, rainy November morning. The first thing that struck me was how cosy the place was - there's a wood fired stove at the front and another through the back and they were blazing away making the place lovely and toasty. The space is nice - there's lots of room and although it got a lot busier quite quickly after we went in, there was nobody sitting really close to us and it didn't feel crowded. As an aside, I don't often comment on the toilets but I was actually really impressed with the toilets here, they were lovely and I liked the little notice board in the ladies' with local notices on it. The breakfast menu has a great selection, with everything from a full breakfast to pancakes to French toast to eggs benedict to simpler options. And it's really reasonable - french toast with bacon and maple syrup would only set you back £4.50, the full breakfast is under £8. I went for the eggs benedict with crispy bacon, Him Indoors went for the full breakfast. Both were good - not knockout fantastic (one day I'm going to write a book about my hunt for the best eggs benedict in Scotland), but really good and, considering the prices, seriously good value for money. We sat and had a second round of coffees afterwards (the coffee was lovely) and with breakfast and two drinks each for three people it came to around £35. The staff were super friendly, really chatty and the whole atmosphere is warm and welcoming. I'd like to go back to try their evening food as well to see how that compares, but I would definitely recommend it for a good breakfast at a great price. read more

Jam Jar is new to Bridge of Allan. I'd walked by it previously at night and it looked amazing from the outside. I was immediately drawn to it. It's got a very cosmopolitan, chic vibe! Bridge of Allan doesn't have much from this vein at the moment and the bar style and decor are enviable to that of bars and restaurants in the bustling centres of Glasgow and Edinburgh! Despite it's flashy designs, there's a quirky homely feel with tables of cookbooks and a steel cabinet where you wait to be seated. In this sense, it is a little clunky and you do feel a little bit like it's been thrown together. But it goes with the atmosphere well. I did like the pin board with magazine cuttings in the toilet! My first visit to Jam Jar was a quick one. - I went for an afternoon pot of tea for two and the place was packed. So much so that we only just managed to get a table. The pot of tea was a little on the expensive side, coming close to £5! The staff weren't particularly unfriendly but could have been a little more welcoming, and it would have been nice to get the bill at the table rather than paying at the till! I'm hoping the staff were just stressed with the afternoon boom more than anything else because I'd love to come back and sample Jam Jar's menu. (They open super super early for breakfast if you're a keen bean!) I think this is where Jam Jar will excel. - I just couldn't help but stare at all the delicious dishes being served! read more

Just eaten here for my friends 21st birthday lunch. Food was delicious, menu is cool (drinks menu looks great too!) we all had a lovely afternoon here, great atmosphere, lovely helpful friendly staff who brought out came out in a lovely fashion, playing music but only long enough to make a fuss but not make it embarrassing! They added their own touches to the surprise by bringing a sparkler and card out, which they put a Polaroid on (taken then and their). Would highly recommend coming here for a celebration as well as general lunch/dinner occasions! We'll be back again soon! read more

This place is awesome! We were on the way from Stirling into the Grampians and found this spot when looking for a sunday afternoon bite. I picked up an awesome burger and my girlfriend chose the chicpea pastry with seasonal vegetables. Both were delicious, service was very friendly and there was a very nice sunday atmosphere with plenty of locals. They also offer a very inventive service where you can bring homegrown veggies into the restaurant and sell them at market price! read more

Visited here on Sunday with a group of 9. This place is huge, with seating at both the front, the back and inside. We asked to sit out at the back in the sun, but were told no even though the place was empty. (Not sure if it was due to us having just run a half and all being in more sport-leisure gear than glam fab). Apart from a fairly grumpy server, who didn't appreciate having a loud group the place was great. An excellent menu, from pizzas, to burgers to fish finger sandwiches, roasts and plenty of tapas style dishes. The group of people that had the fish finger sandwich could not have been happier. I opted for an amazing burger, with coleslaw in a glass jar, the thickest chips which was much needed. The bun was great, but I ended up leaving half of it as I just got too full! Had 2 great americanos. The cakes are also meant to be very very good here. The roast also looked amazing, plenty of gravy and a huge yorkshire pudding! I was not impressed with this restaurant. The menu is extremely limited with options such as toast and eggs or regular pancakes. I had a stack of pancakes and they were not very good. The service was also not very good. I asked for water and never received it and our waitress did not ask us what we wanted too often. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. read more

Just been to Jam Jar for the first time and I can't believe this is on our doorstep, fantastic! It has undergone an incredible transformation from the previous restaurant, great job. I went with my wife for dinner on a Saturday night and it was packed, good job we had booked at the start of the week. I had the mussels to start, not your usual small ones, these were a great size and really juicy. My wife had the prawn popcorn, tempura battered king prawns, delicious. My main was a ribeye steak, a very generous cut of local beef, aged for 21 days, amazing flavour and perfectly cooked to my liking, pink! My wife had the hake which she said was beautifully cooked, the presentation was faultless. Great night out with excellent wine, fantastic atmosphere and lovely friendly vibe. Brilliant value too, just what Bridge of Allan and Stirling needed. read more

Best suggestion: only go here for drinks and appetizers. The atmosphere is fab, but the food...not so much. The wine and drink options are pretty good. We tried their burger; it is average quality, though big enough to split between two adults with light to medium appetite level.The burger is accompanied by a yogurt beet or red cabbage salad and chips (meaning steak fries, to USA folk like us). If they could use bison, it would greatly improve it and make their burger stand out from the other restaurants we came across in our travels. We also had their chicken Caesar salad, which I found aggravatingly terrible. To be fair, it may just be a difference of interpretation as to what a salad really is...I fully expected a crisp romaine lettuce salad with some Parmesan cheese, Caesar dressing and a few meaty bits I could pick around...what we got was a heap of about 8 to 10 cups worth of creamy, meaty sandwich filling, possessed of maybe 10 small, thin, pathetically limp shreds of some kind of lettuce--maybe romaine, maybe iceberg...it was too small to tell. I would expect something like that from a Safeway grocery deli counter in the Midwest USA...not something so far removed from a traditional Graham Kerr or Julia Child's Caesar salad recipe--one that actually features greens, as in romaine lettuce, being the primary and most copious ingredient.
