Nice pub with a killer location by the city walls. Has a tad of a generic sports bar vibe when you…read morewalk in but it's really quite friendly and unpretentious. Filled with tourists and families. On the day I was here they were playing a big Celtic-Aberdeen match and the atmosphere was bonkers. There are a few good beers available and the food is reasonable: pub fare. I got myself a fish and chips, which filled me up nicely. Not a ton of great choices in central Stirling (at least according to Yelp), but this one passes muster.

A smart little gastro-pub in a nice building!…read more I was told by one of my friends that this place used to be a somewhat disreputable nightclub with very sticky floors. But no trace of that remains and The City Walls has been very well renovated indeed. When I first walked in, I thought it looked rather fancy! But then I spotted the football on the TV screens and the very slightly Wetherspoons-ish bar area and I realised that it's not quite as posh as the entry-way would indicate. It's actually very large and spacious inside, with lots and lots of seating. The decor is warm, muted, comfortable and done to quite a high standard. There isn't a huge amount of character or atmosphere, but you can't have everything. We had a couple of drinks, which were very nice indeed, and ordered lunch from some grubby, sticky menus. The waiter took our order from the table, instead of us needing to go to the bar to order, which is a nice touch for a pub. The food was really tasty! Myself and my party all seemed to find it really good, decent quality and portion sizes. For the price, which was very reasonable, I don't think you could fault it much.

Still a pretty new looking place that's bright, modern and very clean, with the weather being cold and raining outside I needed a hot drink to warm me up. I sat near the back area of the cafe where I could see a log burner on display, not sure if this was an ornament but could have done with being lit. I chose the large latte with a slice of the fruit loaf, service was quick but the young server placed my order at the opposite end of the table than in front of me, with the knife being placed blade towards me, I've been in the hospitality trade for over 25 years and this is the first time that I've seen this. In the time I was there that was a whole twenty minutes I was asked for my order twice even though I already placed it at the bar, the confusion was that the servers where not assigned a particular section and clearly didn't know what they where doing. The table of two next to me had the same problem. The atmosphere was 4/5 Food & drinks 4/5 Service was a disappointing 0/5

The space is nice - there's lots of room and although it got a lot busier quite quickly after we went in, there was nobody sitting really close to us and it didn't feel crowded. As an aside, I don't often comment on the toilets but I was actually really impressed with the toilets here, they were lovely and I liked the little notice board in the ladies' with local notices on it. The breakfast menu has a great selection, with everything from a full breakfast to pancakes to French toast to eggs benedict to simpler options. And it's really reasonable - french toast with bacon and maple syrup would only set you back £4.50, the full breakfast is under £8. I went for the eggs benedict with crispy bacon, Him Indoors went for the full breakfast. Both were good - not knockout fantastic (one day I'm going to write a book about my hunt for the best eggs benedict in Scotland), but really good and, considering the prices, seriously good value for money. We sat and had a second round of coffees afterwards (the coffee was lovely) and with breakfast and two drinks each for three people it came to around £35. The staff were super friendly, really chatty and the whole atmosphere is warm and welcoming. I'd like to go back to try their evening food as well to see how that compares, but I would definitely recommend it for a good breakfast at a great price.

Having the possibility of many highly reviewed restaurants in Perth (on Google and TripAdvisor)…read moremeant that we were spilt for choice. We eventually settled on the Venue because of their beautiful looking food and their array of gins. And we were not disappointed. I really can't rate this place highly enough. The staff immediately made us feel extremely welcome and completely attended to. They were knowledgeable, friendly and hilarious. A great discussion and recommendation of the menu meant that I had the scallops to start and the belly pork as a main. Everything cooked to perfection and beautifully presented. Not only that but my sweet, tender belly pork didn't need a knife as it just fell apart, and was huge! The place itself is made up of several little areas and they had a community dining set up where you share a giant table with other guests. I'm personally not normally a fan of this because I like my own space... But it worked well here as it added to the cost ambience. I could write a separate review on the range of gins and whiskey... But I'll just say, it's absolutely massive. We also tried some cocktails which again were wonderful. After eating our fill (and then finding room for pudding and some complimentary treats) we spent £65 on 3 courses each a one a few drinks. I have paid much much more before for a lot less. One of the highlights of our entire trip to Scotland was visiting The Venue, in Perth.

Nice little pub. They were out of fish and the meat pie but I found something that worked.read more
