Ground beef enchilada with tamale, delicious! Rice and Beans are good too?

PROS: Food is very tasty, yum! CONS: Looks rundown, in serious need of weeding, cleaning and painting outside! See pictures. If you eat in the restaurant, you get FREE chips & salsa. If you place an order to go, NO CHIPS, you have to pay $3.99.... WT? I ordered 2 combo plates, you can't throw in some chips? Poor Customer Service

Carne Asada is what I judge a Mexican Restaurant with and it was way delicious. I plan stopping there every time I visit Evanston.

The restaurant was a Ford service station from 1906 prior to becoming Current Fish and Oyster. Unisex bathrooms were around the corner from the bar. Bonny was our waitress . We started with a planet Oregon rosé from the Williamannette Valley, Oregon. Mike enjoyed Pinot Grigio from Marlborough, New Zealand to start. Since we are in Utah, we can't taste the wine, as they can not give us free wine, so we could pay $1 to taste, and it cannot be combined with our drink. We began by sharing the grilled calamari with jalapeño, grilled fingerlings, lemon and red onion. Our calamari came out very very quickly as did our wine. Our wines were delicious and the calamari sauce was very interesting. It had a nice kick. I ordered the scallop dinner and my husband Seabass. We wanted bread to soak up the sauce, but it was a heavy & detracted from the sauce, we were charged $6. My scallops with carrots, mushrooms, snow peas were in a flavorful sauce over a rice cake; it was delicious. My husband enjoyed his sea bass with beans over a corn avocado tortilla. The restaurant was very quiet there were free tables. Yet a bus boy tried to take our plates while we were eating from them. We shared the flourless, chocolate tart with Chantilly cream & cherries. Dinner was very very quick, with our three courses we were in and out less than an hour. I would have preferred a more leisurely, relaxing dinner.

We made reservations and showed up at 7 pm on a Saturday night to a nearly empty restaurant. The outside patio was shaded and the beautiful evening conveyed a relaxing ambience. The waiter gave us the menu and we elected to share 3 appetizers and a large salad for a light but flavorful dinner. The grilled three small oysters had charred scallions butter and focaccia bread crumbs. They were delicious but not much value for the price. The grilled Spanish octopus with pineapple ponzu, peanut salsa machu and shishito peppers was next. This, according to the waiter was one of their signature dishes. A total miss with a tough and chewy octopus and literally no flavor. The crab cakes with shrimp mousseline, pine nuts, lemon aioli and asparagus salad was an epic fail. The crab cake was dense, packed with filler and again lacked flavor. Our final selection was the shrimp and crab salad with mixed greens, fennel, citrus, cucumber and carrot tahani dressing. It was fair but definitely not wanting to order it again. Our waiter was trying to remove our plates before we were done. We felt rushed and pushed to move on. The food combinations sounded good, but did not come close to hitting the mark. The empty restaurant should of been a clue. Out of all the meals in SLC this weekend, Current Fish and Oyster was a total disaster. I hate to leave this type of review, but it was well deserved. To the service staff, read the room and to the kitchen, taste the food you are serving.

As you step inside, you can immediately tell that the establishment is well managed. Everything is beautiful and the staff and quick to welcome you with a smile and seat you. They welcome you a cold glass bottle of filtered water. Make sure you sit outside at shaded table near the fountain. Even in 90-degree-weather days, the coolness from the fountains splashing and numerous nearby trees and bushes make the experience very pleasant with even a slight breeze. The entrees are reasonably priced and very tempting, it's a challenge to choose what to eat. My suggestion? Give the wait staff an idea of your favorites and ask them to make a suggestion. Both times I've been here, I ordered what they suggested and it was amazing. The seafood, sauces and flavors are elegant and well executed. They have lots of options for seafood lovers and those who love it less. On my latest trip, I got the Prawn Scampi. The spaghettini noodles were cooked al dente, the butter garlic sauce was delicious, and when you combined them with a grape tomato, a part of the asparagus heart, and one of the prawns it was a taste symphony! A tip! Sometimes they have special where if you show them a ticket to a movie at the nearby Cinemark theater, they'll give you a free appetizer. I got the Seafood Chowder. It was rich, thick and savory with small chunks of scallops and fish with corn, onion, and bacon. Delicious!

Well the day finally arrived and I opted for takeout. I went with the "Make Your Own Seafood Combo" seafood boil and went with: - Shrimp (head-off) .5 lb - Snow Crab Legs .5 lb - Lobster Tail 6 oz You receive one corn and one potato with this particular combo. You can substitute the potato for an additional corn, and vice versa. You also can add on additional at an extra fee. You get several sauce choices along with spice level preference. I settled on Cajun with Fire (which is supposed to be the spiciest/hottest but I found it to be the weakest out of all the seafood boil restaurants that I've tried). Was definitely more medium spice level than the HOTTEST that I requested. The snow crab legs and lobster tail were both delicious and had a lot of meat to be found in both. The shrimp didn't seem to be cooked very well. Even after peeling and taking off the tails it was still quite a bit crunchy. I had requested utensils/napkins, and absolutely nothing was received (so I thanked God I had visited Red Lobster previously and they had given me a reusable plastic crab leg cracker with my previous meal there) otherwise I would have been stumped cracking legs all night long! For the prices at Hook & Reel Cajun Seafood, I really was not that impressed. The fact they only give you one corn (I couldn't care less for the one red potato) and the fact they don't include any utensils or napkins (as this meal is VERY messy) is a complete turn off because the restaurant can definitely afford to compensate. Overall I'd rate them a 3.5, but since that's not possible, I'll round up to a 4 as the lobster tail and snow crab legs were delicious.
