This restaurant used to be great and was one of my faves. Not anymore. Last time we went we were told a 15 min wait and to sit in the bar area. We were ignored for over an hour, even as tables opened and remained empty. We had to go to the hostess and remind her we were there. It was another 30 minutes to get our order taken--the waitress had clearly forgotten us. We gave it another try tonight. There were very few patrons, and numerous staff, but we were still left waiting for long periods. The outside seating in back is awful, replete with mosquitoes. What happened? Like many others here have said, this used to be one of my favorite places. Good food, good services, good atmosphere. Was it the pandemic? Is it the labor shortage? We stood at the door for a while before someone greeted us, and even then I had to point out that a family of 4 had been waiting before us. It wasn't overly busy. The host, who looked like he was 14-15, seemed lost all night. Not to say he wasn't busy, just looked panicked like he didn't quite know what to do next. We finally sat down in an absolutely full small section right by the entrance. for some reason, more than half of the dining room (the bigger half) was closed, so 5 tables were squeezed together. That's why I'm thinking a lack of staff, even though I saw no fewer than 6 staff walking around the area, walking back and forth, but not always with any purpose. Our server was Daniel, who really tried hard keeping up with the 5 tables he was covering. I would have liked at least to have been asked if I wanted a lime, or glass, with my Corona. And I know one of the tables near us had to wait a while to get their check. He seemed overwhelmed, but he was the only one we saw that was competently working, or at least trying to, to make sure his guests were ok. We got chips and salsa right away. Daniel took our order, and the food was pretty quick coming out. I think it was the manager who brought our food out, and we didn't recognize one of the plates he was holding. He took it back to the kitchen, and Daniel came right back out with the same plate. The manager called it the wrong thing, which is why we didn't think it was ours. The food was just ok. I remember it being better. The tamales were dry, and the meat wasn't as good as I remember. I had the carne asada tacos, which I'd never ordered before. In Spanish, "carne asada" means grilled meat, usually served in strips of beef with some char on them. What I got was small cubes of beef that had never seen any flame at all. Cooked, for sure, but I've never had carne asada this way. For a place that says it's "authentic Mex without the Tex," it was disappointing. At one point, a boy came to one of the table near us, sat down, and took his phone out. I thought he was a customer, or someone waiting for takeout. After 5 minutes, he stood up and started bussing the table. I guess he was just tired and needed a sit-down. At the end of the day, what was once a go-to when we were in the neighborhood is now a no-go. Too many alternatives for better Mexican food in driving distance. It's too bad, really. read more

I'm giving three stars to the amazing bartenders and waitstaff. My friends and I went for the anniversary of our friend's death. They were beyond accommodating and it was so comforting. However, the cook was constantly walking by and going to his car. He was also watching us out the windows so it was a bit uncomfortable. It was awkward. I will definitely be back for the service. Salsa is the best around and Margaritas are amazing, the people who mentioned they weren't good clearly have been in quarantine and have been heavy handing their home drinks . Just shot over to jalapeños during this covid 19 pandemic to grab some pre mixed coconut margarita mix and some apps take out, awesome as always so glad they are selling the mix, stopped at the liquor store after that to grab some 1800 coconut tequila to add to mix, mix was great enough to make 5-6 margaritas for me. read more

FANTASTIC EXPERIENCE! All I can say about the one and two-star reviews is that they are all lies, lies, lies. It was a beautiful day outside and my husband and I were in search of a place that has an outside seating area that we could sip on some drinks to start our weekend. We live in Norwood and decided to come over to Walpole and find a place. Side note, we are both originally from Texas and we really miss our fav Mexican restaurants. We decided to take a chance at this Mexican restaurant. The patio was in full view of the sun, which I love, and we were lucky enough to get a table. Our server, Roberto, was a gem. He was soooo nice and told us a little about himself which made him a lot more personable. For drinks we started with the Mango Mojito and the Jalepeno's Traditional Margarita. I thought the Mango Mojito was GREAT, and if it weren't for the price I would have got another one. My husband liked his Margarita. He ordered beer after that. We then ordered the guacamole and it was FRESH and DELICIOUS with just the right amount of heat!! Also, the salsa is obviously homemade. I could have asked for better chips. For a main course we tried the chorizo tacos. It was the first time we had chunks of chorizo, and it was a pleasant surprise. Normally chirizo is crumbly in our experience. The tacos were remincsent of a restaurant in Houston, TX that has the best tacos, El Rey. Very fresh and I seriously have no complaints. We will definitely be returning to try more dishes on the menu. read more

2.5 stars Came in for a double date (plus a baby) for dinner. Cons: -We had a whirlwind meal. Appetizers came out at the same time as our entree. Overall, we were rushed in and out. Didn't get a chance to enjoy one drink, let alone have a nice meal and enjoy a couple of drinks. -Speaking of margaritas: because it is Cinco de Mayo weekend, they won't do frozen drinks. Look, I get it, they're harder to make than on the rocks. But if it's (probably) your busiest weekend of the year, buy an extra blender and have more people working. Just because too many people want them isn't a good reason to stop making them! I ordered a beer in lieu of a margarita and someone else in my group opted for water because all she wanted was a frozen marg. -The chipotle meatballs were terrible. Meh: -I ordered the enchiladas and the sauce was excellent. However, there was barely any sauce on them. The majority of the flavors I got was from the shredded chicken inside. -Our server was too attentive. Every couple of minutes she asked if things were okay, or she'd get down and play with the baby in the high chair. We couldn't get into the swing of conversations without constantly being interrupted. Pros: -Inside has a nice vibe and there's ample parking out back -The chorizo empanadas were great Overall, I'd go again if invited, but I'd never suggest the place. Jalapeños is probably in the running for one of my favorite restaurants. If you are craving authentic Mexican, this is the place to go. Menu offers a wide variety of both food and margaritas. Atmosphere is great for a drink, a dinner, or a gathering of friends. Some of my favorite dishes are the empanadas, the chicken nachos, or taquitos. They truly have something for everyone and you really can't go wrong ordering. You'll be full by the end of your meal - but you really can't leave without ordering the churros (seriously - they have the BEST churros ever). Great food, staff, prices and atmosphere. We went on 5/4. I'm not sure if the "eve" Of cinco de mayo was the issue or the fact it was a Friday night or if it was just a perfect storm of factors. The seating back up stems from Jr high hostesses (4?!) managing the list and calling your phone when they're ready. They then wait an inordinate amount of time - leaving multiple tables (5 at times) open for 30-40 minutes. Meanwhile you walk in and they tell you it's a 30-40 minute wait. See the issue? The food is fine. Nothing spectacular but fresh. The servers are working hard. I had the carnitas pork tacos special which was very fresh but could have used a bit more seasoning. Family owned business where everyone who comes in has to smile. Make sure you check out the sign next to the cash register that one of the things that will make you smile. The server comes to your table with the best homemade salsa and chips. If you call ahead and ask for the green salsa you will be pleasantly pleased. The portion are a good size, specials are excellent and the desserts great. This is a small place so do be surprised if there is a wait for a table. Take out is also available. Ok so when you first walk in everyone turns around and looks right at you... it was a little creepy. They all just stared at us while we walked through the restaurant to find our party. Maybe its a local hangout and I didn't realize it. We get to the table and my brother and his friends were already there. The table was packed, so we just kind of stand there waiting for the waitress. She comes over and tells us that she can't bring over another table right now because of something (I didn't hear her). So we all squeezed together. The margarita menu was extensive, and a bit overwhelming. I wasn't sure which one I wanted... then I spied a margarita that had some cranberry and raspberry in it, I think it was called Violet Corzo (or something like that). The fiance got the 1800. So a few minutes later she comes back with these massive glasses filled with margarita-goodness! So its been a while since I have had the opportunity to enjoy some drinks with some friends.... so when I tell you that drink was strong... IT WAS STRONG!!!! I had 4 of them and was feeling really good! hehe. The food was decent. The fiance and I shared some chicken quesedillas and the chicken fajitas. The food was alright.... it wasn't the best I have ever had. But it definitely hit the spot after some yummy margaritas. So the lack of a star, the waitress was a bit slow. At first, she was attentive and always on top of the empty glasses. But close to the end of things, I think we only saw her twice. And I really needed a water at that point. read more

Second review. We've had dinner twice in the last month. There is a restaurant side and a sports bar side, take your choice. The food is well prepared and the plates are a lot of food, so come hungry because you were going to want to eat it all. There is a good selection of meat, seafood and vegetarian. There are daily specials that may or may not be truly "daily," we just haven't gone two days in a row to check. The chips, salsa and the guacamole are all fresh. As with my past review, I am partial to more heat and more flavor, but there are two good bottled sauces at the table, which I added liberally. The big difference between my first and this review is not the restaurant, but me. I appreciate more now competent food and the time savings of someone else creating it for me. Well, I am normally a very generous yelper, but that's going to end now. I decided to give Jalapenos a chance because I love Mexican food and it always seemed to be packed. I arrived at 4:45 on a Thursday. I wasn't greeted, as there was no host/hostess to be found. After waiting for 5-10 minutes, I decided to walk into the bar and ask a server if I could be seated. He told me that I could pick any table I would like. After about 10 minutes with no service I tried the whole "I'm making eye contact with you, buddy. Get over here" to my server and it didn't work. It is out of my character to yell out to someone for service, so after sitting at the table for 20-25 minutes, with nobody offering a menu, chips or even a drink, I got up. While leaving, I found that same server who told me to sit anywhere and asked why nobody ever came to my table. He answered with a smile: "Oh, I'm sorry my friend. Please, come sit down." Nope. You had your chance. I love Mexican food like most people love their mother. You lost out on a great customer. 1 star for service. 1 star because the service was so bad that I never even got to taste the food. I'll consider giving them another shot in the future. Maybe I will have to place a to-go order to actually ensure I eat. read more

As a lover of Mexican, it is great to have a local place in Walpole. Aside from the margaritas, I find the quality of the food at Jalapeno's less than mediocre. The prices are quite high for not only the portions, but the quality. I would like to give a shutout to the bartenders, as they are always friendly and welcoming. Service was good, one guy was running around the entire restaurant but was incredibly attentive. there aren't a ton of options for mexican in the area so this is a great little local spot. prices are spot on for the food and drink read more

We ordered the Tacos Al Pastor and I have to say it's as close to real mexican as you can get. The soft taco shells almost feel handmade and the fillings were tasty. I just wish they had more sauces to put on it like the restaurants in Mexico do. read more

One just disappeared to the kitchen and didn't return then finally we got seated by a kid who looked like he was 10. While seated a worker sprayed strong scented chemical cleaning solution on surrounding tables. The smell was noxious and not something you want to smell while trying to eat. As someone who has worked in the food industry before, it continues to be a 'pet peeve' so to speak of mine when waitstaff do not write down orders. As someone with food allergies, it always has bothered me when things are not written down and come out incorrect. This has happened to me more than once here. I understand waitstaff are in a rush, but getting an order right, even if it is only two people, is important. My advice to management is to encourage waitstaff to write down orders, even for small parties. Aside from my orders not being correct, the food is just ok. The sangria is delicious and a large reason I continue to go back. I've tried the margaritas.. they are just ok. I love the atmosphere here but it does seem to be hit or miss. read more

I originally posted a review four months ago giving a 1-star rating because they did not have any vegetarian options on their menu. But I promised to re-review if things changed. Somone emailed me recently and said they had updated their menu. So we gave it a try early (5:30pm) on a Sat night. The place was already crowded (about 50% full) and we were led through the large comfy diningroom, past a bar and into a backroom with 6 tables reserved for families with screaming kids. There were two of us. No kids. Looking for a nice quiet dinner, and this is where they seat us? Plus there was a loud TV at one end of the room and a blaring speaker playing music right above our heads. Strike one. The service was sub-par. Asking for drinks before we even cracked the menu. Had to ask for water. Ordered a side of guacamole which never came. Had to ask for chips (decent) and salsa (mediocre)....oh and they charge $2 for chips and salsa. Strike two. My grilled veggies were actually tasty, but the fajita wraps -- though apparently handmade -- were a little too bready for my taste, the black beans heavy and inedible, and the Mexican rice uninspired. The veggie enchiladas left my companion unimpressed. Strike three. It's nice to see a Mexican restaurant in Walpole Center. We had high hopes as we love Mexican and no doubt would have been regulars. But for the time being we'll stick to the best Mexican around -- made fresh at home. Still, sincere kudos to the owners for venturing beyond the original menu and adding half-dozen vegetarian options...and its on that sole basis that I am upgrading my rating to 2-stars. My original review: 1-Star follows: Got excited when I read the reviews because I live not far from Walpole center and love Mexican. However, after finding the menu online, I discovered not a single vegetarian option. Boo! Really, how hard is it to offer vegitarian Fajitas or a few other dishes?? Until they modify their menu with some veggie-friendly options, I will be eating at Acapulco's in Norwood when I need my Mexican fix. But I will check back in the months to come to see if anything has changed and promise to update my Yelp review if it does. read more

I have been coming to Jalapenos since it first opened in a small space on the corner of Main St. and 27. When it first moved down to the bigger location in the center of town, I didn't know if it would keep the same great, local feel, but I have not been disappointed! The expanded menu and staff are all great, and the margaritas are the best you can find inside or outside of Boston; however, I stick to the sangria, which is truly the best I have ever had. I recommend chicken enchillidas which come with beans and rice, but have also had burritos, fajitas, and nearly every appetizer- all have been good. While you are there, introduce yourself to Ricardo- local resident and owner, and he will help you pick the perfect meal for your tastes. The first few weeks open I think they were busier than expected, but all the kinks are worked out now so if you are in the area and looking for a good, fun place to come with friends I highly recommend it. read more
