I was craving Mexican food and was in Gulfport so I tried somewhere new. It was Sunday around 2:00 so it wasn't overly busy which I liked. They offer lunch specials daily until 3:00, but I tried the vegetable fajitas off the regular menu. The food was well seasoned and came out quickly. I noticed that kids eat free on Sundays and they have specials on the margaritas. My total for all of this food before tip was less than $18. I do prefer a chunkier salsa though and theirs was smoother, I did appreciate the kick in it . The drinks were mediocre but it doesn't take much for me to be lit anyway lol! Went for taco Tuesday where tacos (usually 2.38$) are 1$ with purchase of a drink. The small beers is 2.50$ for any of their draft beers (got a shock top!). They give you chips and a great size portion of salsa. The chips are not the best but not bad. I got a shredded beef and also chicken fried taco and a soft taco. This is the closet thing to real Mexican food that you will find in this area. Although the outside appearance is not spectacular the food and the service is! The chips and salsa are great. The chips are not too thick but they aren't thin and flimsy. I love how they give you the container of salsa so you are able to refill it yourself. This is especially great for chips and dip fanatics like myself. My husband was craving eggs and chorizo. This food combo is not on the menu however, they still let him order it and charged him reasonably for the request! The lunch menu is very cheap and the food portions are great! With the perfect blend of annatto, guajillo chile, Mexican oregano, bay leaf, tomato, cumin, tender tripe and of course calf's foot--this is nirvana in a bowl. It is sticky on the fingers, smooth in the mouth, and just slightly a slow simmering burn on the lips. It is done right. The gelatin from the bones has been sufficiently rendered. The traditional side garnishes are served with steaming tortillas of your choice. And as every Texan or gringo visitor to Mexico knows--get the rustic corn offerings. Forget the public space--this generous dish will have you sucking and gnawing on righteous toes. Good Lord it's good! As a dedicated patron of St. Menudo and a specialized chef saucier I can attest that it is as good or better as any in Mexico or the Texas Rio Valley. Enjoy it with Tecate, Modelo Negra or horchata all ice cold. But if you don't like bone soup you will say mucho gusto the superbly seasoned carnitas. The pastor will literally melt in your mouth--try it in an overstuffed burrito. And the vegetarian enchiladas verdes are supreme by my taste. Traditional agua fresca is also sold and served in individual pitchers. I am a horchata fanatic--also tamarindo. The portions served here are so huge no wonder Mississippi is fat.
