If I'm being honest, I've had better experiences at La Chulas across the road. Our server was one of the best I've ever had. I have absolutely zero complaints about service which was quick and kind. The salsa was more like Mexican tomato soup but the puréed black bean dip was pretty good. We had 1 wrong order, but it was fixed quickly and everything was good. I got the grilled shrimp (about $15) which said it came with a salad, so I asked for just lettuce and chicken. They ended up pricing the "chicken salad" separately so my food (chicken and lettuce and a small grilled shrimp meal) was about $27. Also, they have some old menus in rotation, which are cheaper. The food was good, but I've had better. They were renovating at the time but they had Christmas lights up and a Christmas tree. It was very festive. Once again, I would rather la Chulas which is better priced for its result. read more

We only go here when we are in the mood for fresh guacamole, as the servings and quality on everything else is completely out of line for the area. But, lately the price on that has increased as well, making it a virtual no-go for us. They do one thing well - their thick guacamole. But now they know it - and for $12, for 4 tbsp of Guac and a lunch sack of chips, it's no longer worth it. I still think about it, but it's a premium treat. We never felt excited about anything else here for what it's worth. If I'm super desperate for Guac, I'll come here. But that happens like twice a year. 1.97 / 5 read more

I've been eyeing this place in Bay St. Louis Mississippi for a while, and it was just okay. The service was absolutely fantastic, top marks for that. They were friendly, seated me quickly, took my order accurately, and delivered in a timely manner. The place was clean, organized, and neatly arranged. The appetizer chips and salsa/black beans was awesome, and I ate a good amount of it. In fact, the overall experience was great, except for that beef chimichanga. Between the cheese dip it was glazed with and the beef inside, it was way too salty, and a little pricy for the size. Service was great. Food not so much. It started with stale chips and ended with bad tasting ground beef in the chimichanga, so much so that only one bite was edible..the beans, rice, and salsa was great though. This was so good!!!!! I really wanted chilaquiles, a classic meal in Mexico City, and they made it like it was on the menu all the time. I would def recommend this place if you have any authentic dishes you are wanting to have from your travels. They seem eager to make it for you! It was a very enjoyable evening. The happy hour margaritas are only $3. Not much tequila but delicious and the tamales were OVER the top. I thought the avocado sampler plate was lacking. We are here in Bay St. Louis doing a vacation from Texas. I guess we are spoiled because in Texas, we have such great Mexican food called Tex Mex. However, tonight, we decided we wanted to have Mexican food. And we went to Avocado's. We're very disappointed to start off with. The building is old and needs renovation. Also, the salsa is very bland and has very few spices. We asked the waitress if they had any salsa that was hotter, more spicy, and she said yes, that she was bringing us out some. She said yes but never brought us any. We both ordered Iced Tea, but it had to odor of sewage. We told the waitress, but she looked at us like we were crazy. I told her they needed some type of water filtration system. She just blew us off & I am sure she didn't tell the manager. We ordered. I ordered chicken enchiladas with chili con carne & chopped onions. Once we received our food, it was very bland and did not have much flavor. They didn't include the requested onions, and on my crispy taco, there were no tomatoes, so I asked the waitress if I could have some tomatoes. The refried beans were water down with no favor & we were very disappointed and only ate a little bit of our orders. When we received our check, they charged me 75 cents for the tomatoes & 75 cents for the chili con carne. I have always thought chrispy tacos came with tomatoes. All in all we were very disappointed. Their Mexican food is nothing like we are used to. The owner needs to bring in a cook from Texas that knows how to make great Mexican food, get a water filtration system to fix the sewar smeel in their water, revamp the restaurant including the broken furniture, stop charging for small items like tomatoes, require the waitress to write the entire orders down so they don't miss anything and train the waitress that anytime a customer says something is not right, get a manager to the customers table. read more

Went here for dinner and conversation and it was apparently karaoke night with the staff. Loud off key singing by workers not many guests in the place. Asked to be moved and apparently the waitress did not like this by the look on her face. Decent food just save karaoke night for a night where customers are down to participate. read more

The exterior of the building leaves a lot to be desired but it's quite cute inside. That being said, it was a little bit stuffy (temperature-wise) in the restaurant. The menu is expansive and I really appreciate the pictures! The queso was delicious as were the chips and salsa. The entrees were ok--not awful and not amazing. I found the nachos underwhelming as well as the Mexican egg rolls and quesadillas. I did, however, really enjoy the fried avocado and would absolutely order that again. The service was above average but also had a little room for improvement. That all being said, this place still seems to be the front runner of Mexican options in the area. Looks kinda bland from the outside. But it's bigger than it looks. Our waitress didn't speak much English, so we had a hard time ordering. The food was alright for what it was. I had enchiladas. Kinda hard to mess that up. But we asked for a to go box. She never brought us one back. And she never returned with our change. Got tired of waiting so we left. Avacodo's is a really good, fresh option for Tex Mex style cuisine in Bay St. Louis. I've been several times and have always left impressed. The service is good and the food is well prepared. My favorite item is the chicken avocado salad... very refreshing with large perfectly textured avocados and moist, well seasoned chunks of grilled chicken breast. Its served in a tortilla bowl and a delicious chipotle ranch with a pronounced smoky taste. They also have great margarita specials... tons of options, too shelf tequilas and good prices. BOTTOM LINE: BSL's best Tex Mex option. read more

I have heard mixed reviews about Avocados, but wanted to go check it out. The restaurant has good business on a Friday night. We didn't have to wait for a table, but most of the tables were taken. I order the Three Amigo special which is one ribeye taco, 1 fish taco, 1 carnitas taco served with a side of rice and beans. The tacos and rice were excellent but the beans weren't where I was expecting at a Mexican restaurant. My wife got the stuffed avocado which she loved. The AC is out and in the middle of July that is a not a good thing on the Ms Coast. We enjoy this place most of the year but when we went a month or two ago it was hot and we asked the manager about the air. He said it was working. So we waited a couple of months to try again thinking by this time the AC would be repaired. It was not. On top of that my husband bit into a rock in the beans. Had he not worked in a Mexican taco shop in high school and one of his jobs was to sort the rocks out of the beans we may not have realized what was happening. But sure enough it was a rock. We are just hoping he doesn't need dental care from this adventure. read more

Avocados was closed for a long while and we were excited to try it when it reopened. We were sadly disappointed. We both ordered one of the combo plates. They arrived hot, which is a plus. However, they were bland and the salsa was not enough to make up for the lack of basic seasoning. The thing that really turned us off were the watery beans. They were disgusting. They were so unappetizing that it really did take away from the whole meal. The drinks were average. We will not be going back. read more

Also I live in New Orleans and we know flavor. Staff was very nice but the preparation of the food seems to be on the lazy side. Visited my mother-in-law in Bay St. Louis for vacation this past July and of course had to have tacos on Taco Tuesday! This place was fabulous! We had fried avocado, grilled fish, and shrimp tacos. All were perfect. I'm fish tacos biggest fan and this one was up there with the best I've had! My son loved the shrimp taco and we both enjoyed the fried avocado. My daughter is isn't as adventurous as we are so she ordered the chicken nachos (FYI, she alleyways orders nachos!) and loved them too. If your in Bay St Louis check this place out! read more

Coming from Covington to here is completely different. You'd think they'd keep this place clean but there is dirt EVERYWHERE. Their salsa taste like marinara sauce and the chips are stale. I will say the meal was HUGE and delicious read more

Wow! Do to Covid 19, we went and ordered food to go. The man who took my order was really nice. He brought the food out to us. Social distancing from the truck. The quality and taste of everything was a pleasure to eat. Hubby had the El King Burrito which has chicken, beef and shrimp, cooked to perfection! I had the combo fajitas. The shrimp were delightfully crunchy and the asada was super tender. The chicken just fell apart. I also ordered four tacos. Pastor, 2 chicken, and beef. Absolutely delicious!! They gave us chips and salsa, too. Their sauces were great. I love hot food, (anyone who follows me knows i love Thai spicy!) and they gave us a hot sauce that was so hot i just couldn't stop eating it! For $40, we had so much food that we have a container full for tomorrow, or maybe later! Go get their food! It's really good! read more

I'm going to start this baby off with some caveats. "As good as it gets?" Absolutely as good as it gets within a 45 minute drive of Bay Saint Louis. I'm kind of an authentic Mexican food snob, too, and this place isn't that. It's more of a Tex-Mex/Baja hybrid. Those can be good too, and they're pretty good here. I've read the other two reviews, and I'm hoping those experiences were new restaurant hiccups. I haven't had a bad meal yet, but I'm only at three visits so far. Twice now I've had the steak fajitas. The steak had a nice sear, and nice beefy flavor. Good quality meat, well prepared. The guac and pico they serve on the side are good too, though I'm thinking that scant tablespoon isn't nearly enough. I ordered extra of both last night, and they charged me for it. If you're reading this, guys, figure that one out. There's not nearly enough condiments for the amount of meat you serve, and you shouldn't be charging extra for a guy to have enough. On the other hand, there's that "amount of meat" thing. The first time I had the fajitas, there was a lot of meat for one guy if you're having anything else. Last night, the meat covered my plate. There must have been twelve ounces of flank steak laid across the sauteed veggies. I wound up letting my wife have a couple after stuffing myself silly. So, guys, if you're worried about the meal being too expensive, cut out some meat and, er, beef up the condiments. Make me happy, I'm giving you a good review here. (I'm actually wondering if the amount of meat I got last night was because someone saw my picture on yelp LOL) On the authentic Mex subject, they quite nicely give you your choice of corn or flour tortillas (fajitas are much better with corn), and they have horchata to drink, though I haven't actually seen it on the menu yet. My wife is partial to jamaica, and our server reported that the manager expects to add it in the next couple of weeks. They have carne asada and carnitas tacos. First thing I ordered there was a pair of tacos to go, one of each, a la carte, and they were legit. Now gimme some adobada, some cachete, some lengua, and some al pastor. I love me some of that stuff. You can also get a carnitas torta, which would be good if the pork is good (I saw that other review complaining about the pork, and I'm hoping that was a one-time problem; the carnitas taco I had was pretty good). And then there's something called a carnitas burger. Hmm. My wife and son have tried the ribeye tacos, the Benjamin tacos (they have shrimp in them, I think? I dunno, I was packing away fajitas), the cheese enchiladas, and the stuffed avocados, and reports were positive all around. And the chips and salsa are quite good, I thought. I saw that review about the runny cheese. I'm nervous about that. There's a cheese some Mexican restaurants use for quesadillas and chiles rellenos and such that I think of as Mexican Velveeta; it tastes like white American, and it basically turns to a runny fluid at just above room temp. I hate that stuff. Avocado's, if you're reading this, please don't use runny cheese! They also have chiles rellenos and tamales, but I don't know if they're going to be Mexican, Tex-Mex, or Mississippi hot tamale type stuff. Well, by golly, we'll just see, and I'll get back to y'all on that. Right now, I'm just crazy glad I can get proper Tex Mex fajitas less than a mile from the house. Yes! UPDATE: We went again last night, curious about that runny cheese issue. Two things. First, the chile con queso is in fact runny, but it's also exactly like what I've had at any number of Tex-Mex places in Texas, and it's delicious. Very simple, cheese, chile peppers, maybe some cream to make it flowable (or runny). It was completely legit, definitely not from a jar, and very good. If I really want to test a Mexican restaurant, I get the chiles rellenos. They're such a pain to make that most places make them up in advance, so with the usual simple cheese-filled peppers, it mostly comes down to what kind of cheese is used and how long they've been in the fridge. In this case, the cheese wasn't the "Mexican Velveeta" I described, but it was moving in that direction, and I don't think the rellenos had been kept in the fridge more than a day. In short, don't expect much on that score. It's still better than anywhere else in town, but meh. My wife ordered the tortilla soup, which was much heavier on veggies than I've ever seen. Carrots, cauliflower, broccoli. For US tastes? I don't know, but it's probably good if you can eat cauliflower and broccoli. I can't stand them. Or brussels sprouts. Ick! read more

Big enough that I felt safe during Corana times! As soon as we arrived, they gave us chips, salsa and bean dip along with our drink orders of sweet tea. Husband got the Tamale Pie and enjoyed it so much he took his leftovers with him, which he usually doesn't do. I got the Vegetarian Quesadilla which was oh, so, delicious! I asked for a little guac in place of the cheese and sour cream and they happily complied! We both enjoyed eating at Avocado's! Yes! I highly recommend Avocado's! read more

Visiting BSL a area and decided to try Avocado's. Terrific chips and salsa - the chips were so thin & crispy! Margaritas before 7 are buy one-get one and we're great. My husband got their stuffed avocados and thought they were very good and totally unique. You could tell the food was fresh and made in-house. read more

Obviously went on an off night, the food was just ok. I had the steak quesadilla and chili releno on the side. My husband had the steak enchilada plate. My peppers in my quesadilla were uncooked as well as the tomatoes. There was a small container of cheese on my plate as well as sour cream, lettuce when I received my bill there was a $2 charge for the cheese which I did not order, my chili releno was delicious with the exception for the mass of seeds near the top. My husband could only describe his enchilada plate as different. The waitress was nice extremely nice. It took a long time to be seated due to some problem with a customers credit card but I'm not sure why it stopped every from being seated, numerous people left due to this, one group set themselves which I thought was rude considering they were behind everyone waiting to be seated but they promptly received chips and salsa ‍. It was supposed to be happy hour also but we were charged premium prices for our drinks so I think next time we will choose another place, pics looked nice. read more
