Have eaten here a few times. Some good things some subpar. Chicken nachos - 4.25 out of 5, delicious slow cooked pulled chicken and a cheesy queso white sauce that thickens as it cools. House made chips are great. Side of Pico - 4.0 - fresh and tasty though could use more salt and lime. Enchilada - 3.25 - has a plasticky taste somewhere in there but still somewhat enjoyable because the other flavors are decent. Enchilada sauce is ok. Does not taste canned but not fresh. Kinda beefy tasting. Their ground beef though is definitely one of their poorer offerings. Their shredded chicken and steak are definitely better. Crawfish burrito with cheese sauce - 2/5 - kinda sad actually. I remember having their Tres Crawfish menu item once and it being good; in this case I think their shrimp is better. Cheese sauce is good as usual. Burrito shell is good. Guacamole salad and pico mix - 4.25 - this is so fresh and good that if your meal doesn't come with it you should order it. Their guac isn't the best in the area but it is above average. Beans and rice - 4.0 and 3.0 respectively. They make great beans. Rice is seasoned nice but still boring. It's just rice. If you're going to La Chula just know that not every thing is done perfectly, but some things are executed well. Not something you'll tell everyone about but there's a good probability you'll enjoy your meal here. read more

The chips and salsa were delicious! I loved the tanginess and freshness of the salsa and the chips had great flavor, too. We were attended to promptly by the server who was very polite. I had the lunch quesadilla with chicken, covered in queso. There was no skimping on the meat. The queso on top compensated for the lack of cheese in the actual quesadilla, but it was loaded with shredded chicken. Overall I was satisfied with the food. For lunch time, it did take a little longer than one would expect for a Mexican restaurant but luckily I was not in a hurry. The prices are very reasonable and the menu is expansive. It's cozy inside the restaurant and there is a large patio. I look forward to trying something new the next time we come! read more

This is a staple restaurant for me. When we want to meet friends and enjoy a good meal, we go to La Chula. When we're ready to celebrate a good time, we go to La Chula. When we're hungry, we go to La Chula. The staff are all tight knit and highly personable and friendly. Their food is top tier and their drinks are perfect. They also have various specials on drinks, a semi-outside bar and music in certain nights. Definitely give it a try if you haven't yet! read more

Food was your average Mexican food, what stood out was the service. Our waiter was phenomenal.

Worst service ever in my life, and I'm not exagerrating. The waitress admitted to being new and and being overwhelmed. Every time she came to the table she was rushed and repeatedly complained about how busy they were (which they weren't), and constantly fanning herself with her pad. The eye contact was poor, but her English and attitude were even poorer. She did not know the menu, and the language barrier made it worse. I had to call a male server to the table to make sure she got my order correct. After the food came, she did not come back once to check on us--but you could hear her singing in the kitchen and see her dancing in the restaurant. When the bill cme, i was a bit confused by the charges, and asked for help. and again her being non-English speaking didn't help. She tried to blow off my questions, then laughed at me as she walked away from the table. I called her back and told her how I felt--and she sure understood me then. Her profound rudeness and bad attitude continued. She refused to give me her name, and no one else seemed to know each others names either. But they stood around the service counter talking to each other in Spanish and glancing at me. I asked the other server for a manager, who wasn't there. If you go, look for the short, squat, unfriendly one--and then ask for someone else. She's beyond awful. ...(Of course I was able to find out the owners name, only I probably won't waste my time with her. However, being that they're all non-English speaking, I bet I know an organization that will probably welcome paying them a visit. Let's see how their attitudes change then. read more

I do not recommend this place whatsoever! Terrible and rude service. After we got our food, the waitress didn't even bother to check on us to see if everything was OK she only came to give us the ticket. The food wasn't a big deal either, Rice tasted like it wasn't cooked at all, we got dirty silverware and dirty glasses. I was not happy with the place at all. I will never go back....!!! Rachel made my first visit to the Lachula made a great impression! I'm very particular about my margaritas and she nailed it the first time. The food was hot delicious and very affordable. Three of us ordered two of the fajita entrées and we all walked out stuffed. I moved here from California and I have not found Mexican food here that has been as enjoyable as this meal was. The food was horrible! My boyfriend and I are sick with food poisoning. He had the Quesabirria tacos, refried beans and a beef taco. I had El Tapatio #58 and the flauta plus chimichanga, I paid extra for steak and it was rancid. It tasted nasty. I'm hard to please and have a refined palate. To me, it tasted like they doctored up Hormel chile for the big burrito. The tiny amount of homemade guacamole served in a to go container was a $1.00 and tasted on par to wholly guacamole in its smoothness and flavor. I wished for cilantro, or chives on top of the massive burrito. The food 2.5 stars. Plus I couldn't stand a fly that kept swarming around my plate in the over air conditioned covered patio. Service 5 stars Luis was Very nice, helpful, and poured me a great Dos equips amber in a chilled mug with an added fresh lime. They also turned the meat locker coldness off for me just bc I was cold. Maybe next time I'll go for the carnitas. I didn't know it was $1 taco night I found that out later during my order. When I asked about the happy hour specials, my server could have thrown that in there as far as what was going on. This is my 3rd time here, 1st review of La Chula. Asked for a shrimp burrito and they gave my 27 year old boyfriend the wrong burrito with beef then came back with a dry tortilla with a couple pieces of shrimp thrown on it. She said he needed to tell her exactly what he wanted on the burrito and snapped back attitude. Asked anyone and they tell you cheese tomato's lettuce onions peppers whatever goes on a burrito they only ask what do you NOT want on it. Not just meat goes on a burrito. Service and restaurant were 5 stars, the food however, and please take my review with a grain of salt because I'm pretty spoiled on the west coast with mexican food. Taquerias on every corner, not all great, but for the most part really good mexican food, most of which blow this place out of the water. The chips and salsa were good. I had the "E" combo, which was a chile releno, beef enchilada, and beef taco. The side of beans and rice were good, pretty standard. It was just the type of the cheese (had a processed taste) in the releno and the way in which the chile was breaded and cooked. The beef in the taco and enchilada was not good, it was ground or minced (couldn't tell exactly), salty and little spice. The shell on the taco was one of those pre made store bought kind. The enchilada sauce wasn't very good either. I was expecting more quality in the food, but with like most things in this area the customers judge the food on quantity and price. read more

I actually liked the salsa! It had a nice cilantro bite to it and just the right amount of pepper. Others posting state the salsa was watery. It was just not blended smooth. The tomatoes were a bit chunky which I liked. This is an above average "regular run of the mill mex joint". From the Louisiana/Mississippi line to Gulfport its the best ya gonna get. Try it. The service was horrible the day we went. They messed up our order twice. Then I ordered chicken with mole sauce on it. It was burnt and the sauce was so bad, I couldn't even eat it. We were charged an additional $1.10 per enchilada for having cheese sauce instead of chili sauce on our enchilada, waitress never told us, never been charged this at any other Mexican restaurant, and I eat Mexican food at least once a week! Guacamole salad was a hunk of avocado on lettuce with a few pieces of tomato and cheese, lacked seasoning for sure! Then to top things off I asked if they had sopapillas and the waitress had to think about it first, then said yes, it was nothing but a fried flour tortilla with sugar and cinnamon sprinkled on it then honey drizzled over it with a blob whipped cream!!! We got there at 615pm. We placed our order for food amd drinks. Our drinks arrived, got looked at by our waiter several times who refused to give us more chips and refills. When it came time for the food we never received it and they gave us problems canceling our order to just leave. No warning that the wait would be over an hour. Horrible Mexican food. We got overcooked fajitas mostly filled with onions, peppers and tomatoes. Not worth the price. My daughter got the wings and she didn't eat them all. She said they were not good quality. The only good thing about this place was the salsa they served with their chips.
