I think any craft beer drinker who smokes an occasional cigar has to visit this place if you are in Omaha. I arrived on a work trip and searched a craft beer location. When I looked online at the options of what was on tap, most bars, even the craft beer bars had the same six beers on tap. This place had a list, according to their Yelp links and menu pictures, of more eclectic craft beers. Having more emails to process, I went there with a desire to work and drink craft beer in solitude. When I arrived, the final four games of FIFA were playing, so I thought, this is a good sports pub to watch events. I got some good advice from the beer tender, Benjamin, and reclined to the outside beer patio to do emails but heat the game. After the first beer, as an occasional cigar smoker, I did inspect their humidor and found a nice 10-pack of cigarillos, to enjoy. I had no matches or a lighter, but was taken care of. Nice place to come and chill after a concert or if you just want a quick drink. They have a selection of cigars, but always seems to have been picked over...never seen a full box before and like they're waiting for an order that someone still needs to place. You can save 4% if you pay cash, otherwise you get charged 4% extra if paying with a card. Stopped in today during my travels and picked up a couple cigars to go. Didn't carry my cigar brand Nub or Cain but they had a decent selection. Went on a whim with a friend while having a good night in benson. I know less than a decent amount about cigars and my friend knows absolutely nothing. The clerk working (I think he said his name was Tyrone, wasn't exactly sober when in but that's what im pretty sure he said) was incredibly helpful and walked us through the humidor, took my preference into account as we talked, and ended up picking out a cigar both me and my friend absolutely loved. Plus, when we were having trouble with the matches provided for free to light the cigars, I went and told him that we were struggling and he handed us a nice torch lighter, telling me to just give it back when I was done. Later, I went to the bar to get a drink for us. I told the bartender what we were smoking and he ended up grabbing what may be my new favorite cognac, and it paired immaculately with the cigar. Overall, even late at night, me and my friend had nothing short of an incredible experience. The staff went above and beyond, and even the other patrons were kind and talkative. Jake's is an interesting little spot in Benson, with a cigar/convenience shop at the front and a lounge-type bar at the back. I don't smoke, but have a few friends who do, and they have noted that Jake's has a good selection of cigars and cigarettes, with a lot of variety for each. Now I CAN speak for the bar in the back, as I usually head straight back there. Ambiance-wise, it's a little darker at times than I would like. There is a long curved bar, with comfy leather hightop chairs all along it. If you have a small group, they also have a few booths along one side of the bar. If your group is much larger, there is a little area at the back that is basically one giant booth all around that wall. The staff is great and always tries to find me what drink I'm looking for based on what I'm craving in taste and body, etc. They have a good selection of beers, both on tap and in bottles/cans. So always ask if you're trying to find a certain thing - they may have it! The wall behind the bar also has a million bottles of every liquor you can think of, so whatever mixed drink you may want, I'm sure they can concoct for you too. They also have an outdoor patio, but it can get a little smoky at times, as that is where everyone goes to smoke now that the half indoor/half outdoor little smoking room they used to have is no longer. I've been going to this place for 20yrs; I've always had positive interactions there with vibrant, like-minded people who love art, show; playing and writing music ;beautiful, peaceful people. I've spent a LOT of money there on whiskey, cigars, craft beer & since I'm in the service industry, I'll always overtip. However, this place had done way down hill. A lot of the clientele in the evening and the bartenders are not welcoming at all. For example: I have a service dog named Teddy because he helps me avoid panic attacks and reminds me to take my bipolar meds. I bring him To bars in Benson, Blackstone, Downtown, Vinton, South O, Gifford Park, Underwood; you name it! Finer establishments than Jake's. They love him! He's a service animal so he's trained. I bring this dog in and the young male bartender doesn't even ask if it's a service dog, he tells me it can't be in here. I hip him to the ADA of 1975 and just says yeah whatever like he has no regard for a Federal Law because he clearly doesn't understand law. Two nights after that, I go back to give them a seconds chance: order a cigar and then try to order a beer but this bartender tells me he can't because he said I was doing whip it's outside with some guy. I suffered from a panic attack on the way to Jake's that night and he could tell so did a hit of oxygen so I could breathe. It was an handheld oxygen tank, not a whip-it. He accused me of so I didn't do & then when I tried to explain myself he kicked me out . I left willingly and in peace but as I'm leaving, "PJ" says hey in a an agressive tone and try's to walk up quickly behind me so U turn around and said don't ever walk up on a man like that again. That's what cowards do; if you want to have a conversation, make eye contact and talk to me mano y Mano. Of course this would be his childish behavior. So in conclusion, if you're looking to chill, order drinks, lounge, vibe, vent about all the BS going on in your life, this place ain't it at least IMHO. Also, I work in the restaurant and service industry and this was the absolutely worst customer service and experience I've ever had in my entire life and that says a lot because I'm. No Spring Chicken! I tell the bartender that and he doesn't believe so he basically called me liar. My rebuttal: perception is not reality; just because you think it's truth doesn't make it so. So then I start filming it again because my rights have already been violated AND I'm PJ the "owner" who's not an owner but says that he's a God & he can do whatever he wants to do. Ummm PJ, that's not the way it work; you are an ignorant bully with low intellect & a lot of anger & bitterness & pain thats hopefully going to end soon for you. I've been hurt a lot dude, I get it. sho Then PJ tells me he's the owner, which I know he's not because I looked them up on BBB & they're each 50% owner; neither of which these guys is "PJ". If he lied about being the owner, he probably lied about his name because he knew he was in the wrong. Sorry if I already stated this but as I was volunteering to leave, OJ says hey pal and walks up behind me really fast like he was going to try and physically assault me. I told him don't want up on someone like that because that can be taken as a threat and I know how to defend myself Mx from There I just stared at him and he walked about which was the best decision. I'm sorry this happened and I'm sure all of these dudes are cool; maybe they were just having a bad day because I know I do: it's been a thought 6 mos. I hope PJ & the other bartender are doing ok: I forgive them but I'm never going back here again because you should be able to go chill and smoke a cigar with bourbon and other men( or woman) & this ain't the vibe they're pushing here these days. Always here and never disappointed. Good beer and environment. If you want a true Benson experience you'll have to give it a shot. I can't say how many times I've came here to unwind. Almost a meditation on other places in the area that have been ruined by popularity and the tragedy of what the madness of people flocking to the next big thing. I talked to some local/lifers of Omaha that have seen the rise and fall of good bars like this. Come to support and experience some of the best people watching imagined. My husband and father are both cigar smokers so I end up at the random cigar bar from time to time. Here is the real winner about Jakes - they have a designated walled off smoking area, this keeps the strong smells away from everyone else. In other shops around town like Havana Garage and Safari, it is in all-in-one type set-up and is frankly too overwhelming for many. I can't really speak to their humidor, but on the drink front I was really impressed with the variety of not only beer but also unique liquor infusions. I live in the neighborhood and stopped by the retail shop for craft beer for what I hoped would be the first of many visits. One 4pack, and one single stout. I got home, opened the single bottle and realized it was rotten. Expired in November 2022. Came back and they exchanged it. Cool. Next can also rotten. Checked the 4 pack at this point. All expired. Came back with everything, brought the emptied can (down the sink) so they could smell the vinegar I had purchased. They then refused to exchange it and would only refund the 4 pack I brought back. Simply put, my favorite watering hole in Benson. I've spent many an hour, marveling at the scenic urban landscape, and discussing the merits of Jameson Irish Whiskey at Jakes. A who's, who, of Omaha's burgeoning sub-culture. The salt of the earth working class, and tight jeans wearing, hipster fashion tragedies all abound at this mecca of boozy delights. High end beers, and lowbrow brews such as Old Style (a personal favorite) can all be purchased with reckless abandon. I'm always thankful that I discovered this place. Finally sat down and had a cigar here. For me this is only a 3 star spot. Their humidor is small, dark and tight. It has a dive quality that the regulars here probably love. Folks kinda start piling in and they can get a little rowdy for my taste. They had a good mix of music playing which I appreciated. I go to cigar bars (and everywhere else) alone a lot and usually a person or two will chit chat a bit in passing. That didn't happen here, so that's something to keep in mind if you're alone and want to mingle. The service was great, and they had High West Campfire which is a major plus! Located in downtown Benson, this place is great. They have quite a selection of imported beers, a wide selection of cigarettes and yes, a walk in humidor. They also have a small bar in the back. I started frequenting there when I moved in the area a few months back. It's a lot more than a typical liquor store or smoke shop. They also have a rewards card. For $5 you can get a card that gives you points towards gift cards. Basically you get 1pt for each dollar you spend and 2pts for cigars. They also start you out with 25pts just for buying the card. If your looking for some non run-of-the-mill smokes (like cloves) or some good premium beer, this is the place to go. They have a good selection of premium beer incuding most of the New Belgium line as well as a few from Odell. They also have a good selection of imports from Germany and Britain. read more

Even when there's a ton of people there it's not overwhelming, the lighting is always perfection, & the bartenders are nothing short of phenomenal. They have an impressive drink selection, their average choice of music is commendable, & there's a ton of seating in addition to stools at the bar. And then there's the Maple Street side of Jake's where they have their retail, a commodity that I feel is often under-appreciated. They sell alcohol, assorted tobacco products, & some other small miscellaneous items. It's no convenience store, but it sure is convenient when you're in the heart of Benson & you just need a pack of smokes or maybe want a cigar to enhance your night. I recently had my first Jake's experience as part of the Benson Pub Crawl. No one in our enormous party, save Jeff and Matt, had any idea how cool this place is. Fantastic on-tap beer selection, lots of space, whodathunk it?! I have driven past this place numerous times. I used to live 3 blocks away. I feel like I have been missing something wonderful that was right under my nose the entire time. The package selection is as extensive as the on-tap selection that I was gushing over one paragraph ago. I am not a cigar aficionado, nor do I subscribe to the magazine with that name, but it would appear that Jake's has quite a selection of cigars as well. Why not five stars? I like coming to Jake's to sit and have a quiet drink without paying through the nose. Overall it's just a good bar to sit and drink at, but there are a few things I like in particular. First, they have two bar areas, if someone is being obnoxious, or you the bartender isn't being friendly (unlikely!), just walk yourself to other bar and have seat, this is especially useful on nights when the big area is crowded. Second, the people are always friendly there; staff and customers alike. I think it's mostly attended by local regulars, but I don't get the 'gtfo, this is my bar' stares like I do at other 'regulars' bars. Joe is probably the best bartender I have ever had, anywhere. Finally, the Pizza Shoppe delivers there... that's all I need from any bar, really. The bar is clean, big, they have a wide variety of liquors and beer and their prices are perfect. 4. For those of you who smoke cigarettes there is a heated smoking patio too. 5. This is an interesting place, with three different businesses going on in one. You have a well stocked tobacco and beer store on one side, a Cigar Bar in the middle, and the bar on the other side. The 'store' looked well stocked, and as others have said, a good selection of beer. I can't comment on the Cigar Bar, as I am not a cigar guy...The bar side though, I can :) It is a small space, but warm, I dig it. Jake's beer selection is very, very good. They always have 5 - 10 pretty uncommon microbrews on tap. They usually carry the seasonal offerings from Colorado breweries like Avery and Odells. There are some comfy booths along the window, but I like to sit at the bar because the bartenders are always friendly and entertaining. Of course, you could always buy a cigar from the large selection and smoke it "outside" in the smoking area. Although sometimes crowded, the atmosphere is mellow. Jake's is just about as good as it gets in Omaha. They have just about everything you could possibly want at a bar, and more. Great selection of beers on tap and they rotate them frequently. They have multiple beers by local Nebraska breweries which I think is great. Great selection of liquors as well. Now the front of Jake's is like a little convenience store type thing where they sell alcohol, cigars, and a few other things. It looked like they had a decent selection in the coolers, as well as wines, but I didn't spend very much time looking around. The next part of the bar is the side where you're allowed to smoke cigars. They have a bar with a small selection of drinks, but they can run and get drinks from the main bar if need be. There's a limited choice of cigar lounges in Omaha which is a plus for Jake's. The main area of the bar is pretty open with booths lining the windows. They also have a little seating area with some benches and a large TV or Projection screen (I can't remember, it was New Years?). This side also has the heated smoking patio (which is nice for smokers I guess) but sometimes it can make the air a little stale or smokey if you're sitting near it. Yes, there's hipsters.
