One of my favorite spots to stop with my family. The food is great! If it's busy, parking can be tight, and service can be a little slow, so I wouldn't recommend going if you are in a hurry. My favorite thing to order is the Big Ben Burger. The BBQ chips are also a great appetizer. Highly recommend it if you're in the area. read more

We arrived on a Sunday night, about 6:30 pm or so. We were quickly seated. Our server was adequate, but not overly friendly. The restaurant was out of some items. No big deal; it happens. But she didn't tell us until we were ready to order instead of when we were given menus. The bloomin' onion appetizer was burnt on the edges, but raw in the middle. The pulled pork was very bland, to the point we questioned if it was turkey instead of pork. The ribs (dry rub) were poor quality. The corn-on-the-cob was mushy and old. Saw this restaurant from I-55 and came in because of the big BBQ AND STEAK sign. We were greeted by a wonderful staff and got sat down quickly. I ordered the Pulled Pork Tater (best dish I ever had ) they ain't greedy about how much pulled pork goes in the dish. Excellent plate. The numerous pathetic reviews are not kidding and make sure you get the "newest first" not the Yelp pre-sort. Also, do yourself a HUGE favor and read the "Not Recommended" reviews as well, Yelp should have left them up. Then get up and go to a much better restaurant, and believe me, it won't be difficult to find one. The GAS STATION next door probably has 5-star food compared to this place, OMG. Just unbelievably terrible food!!! The food was not cooked recently, semi-reheating doesn't count. My mother-in-law's brisket sandwich meat was sliced HORIZONTALLY with the grain instead of against it, and then reheated it on a flat top which means the brisket was not fresh out of the smoker, and it was at least three days old it was dry and stringy. The ribs that they served me hadn't been cooked recently either, they were at least three days old as well, microwaved to reheat with some kind of orange seasoning sprinkled on them. No smoke ring, no smoke flavor, no nothing. This is three of the 10 worst barbecue restaurants I've ever been in my life, do yourself an ENORMOUS favor and don't eat here. I was told the ribs spent "at least 3 hours in the smoker" which was WOEFULLY inadequate both to properly cook the ribs and to impart any flavor. They boil the ribs and then give them that whopping 3 hours in the smoker for tough, dry and flavorless ribs that they sprinkle with a dry rub just before serving. Are you FN KIDDING ME?? I've had better barbecue NORTH of the Mason-Dixon line--and that's an insult on steroids. I want to formally apologize to the dog they killed for these ribs. I am floored that these people are still in business, they certainly won't be for much longer. Stale, reheated food with no flavor at a shameful price point is not a recipe for success. No wonder the place was empty at noon on Sunday when every other place was SLAMMED. Terrible food. Dirty restaurant. The waitress was pleasant. She's not responsible for the food and she's not responsible for that incredibly poor quality. This is right next-door to the kennel club steakhouse so I'm pretty sure they're getting their meat from the same dogs. If you like boiled dog ribs this is the place for you, these ribs are clearly boiled in water, sauced and served. Revolting, disgusting and appalling. I would give it zero stars if I could--actually I would give it a negative stars if I could. It's about a -3 on a scale of 1 to 5, pitiful and pathetic. I throw better food than this away. Any given gas station in Mississippi has better barbecue than this. It is an out right disgrace. They need to close down and get it over with. It would be a mercy kill and the mayor would give them a medal for closing. I eat BBQ at every opportunity and this place should be sued for false advertising for desecrating the word "Barbecue" on their sign. So disappointed in this restaurant. We have been to this eatery several times and have always enjoyed it in the past. Making the long trip from Memphis to Grenada was a nice get away we all enjoyed. However, after today's experience we will never recommend it or go back. First, the servers we NOT wearing masks. Second the food was not good. How do you mess up a cheese and sausage plate? Answer: By leaving it under a heat lamp for hours . When I called to speak with the manager, about my concerns, she was Not accommodating and borderline rude. The food was delicious. We got the pulled pork sandwich, the catfish platter, and slaw burger. All very good. The lower rating comes from the service. Our waitress was polite but we never saw her! She brought our waters, took our orders and brought our bill. She never stopped in to see how we were doing. We had to flag her down to ask for salad dressing, which she never brought. We actually had to flag down other servers and (I think) the manager to actually get anything. In the end, we had to walk our bill up to the bar to cash out because she never came back. Whenever heading to Memphis, if I am going to make a pit stop, I always stop in Grenada. There's an Exxon gas station in front of Wall-Mart, but I always noticed this restaurant and always wondered about the grub. This is for 20 years, so to my surprise, finally had a chance to go. We ordered some appetizers, fried cheese sticks, and fried pickles, fried green tomatoes, and fried mushrooms. The fried pickles were a tad salty, but when are fried pickles not salty anywhere? By far the fried mushrooms were the best - nice sized, with a nice seasoned breading. Cheese sticks weren't bad, they were standard, so no complaints. The fried green tomatoes were o.k. too, not bad, but not the best I've ever had either. The party I was with, ordered the same thing - Fried Catfish and BBQ plater (@ $17.99) - thats with 4 pieces of catfish and 4 rib bones. You can get your ribs wet or dry. For sides, you get coleslaw, and hush puppies, with choice of fries or onion rings. I was happy, ribs were tender, sauce was decent. Catfish was nice, crispy and fresh. Coleslaw, meh - I've had better. Fries were good. The only knock was that they forgot the hush puppies on my platter. But they were lucky, because I can do without them. All in all, everyone in my party was happy. The menu had great options, plenty to offer. Service was good, beer was nice and cold, drinks were constantly filled. My second mistake was getting annoyed while waiting to be seated (with only one couple ahead of me, all 3 of us were ignored by over 6 employees for over 5 minutes) and deciding to sit at the empty bar (that should have been a clue the the bartender's lack of lunchtime fans). I'm not sure what is up with the Yelp ratings in Grenada. I went to this place with some coworkers on Monday and it was really good food with a really good atmosphere. Service was solid as well. I had a grilled chicken salad, one coworker had a Philly sandwich, and the other had the hamburger steak special. We were all happy with the overall experience. My coworker told me the service was "a little slow".... I should have taken the hint! I went to this place on my lunch hour and they brought my water pretty quickly. THat was the end of anything quick at this place. It took about 10-12 minutes for my garden salad to arrive, only to discover it was covered in bacon, which I don't eat. I waited and tried to get the attention of my waitress to have it switched but she never looked my way for another 20 minutes! In fact, none of the other waitresses looked my way either! They came to the tables in front of me, beside me and behind me but never glanced at me. Just as I was about to give up and just leave, my waitress appeared to give me more water. I asked her for a replacement salad which she returned with in about 5 minutes. She put the salad down so quickly that it slid across the table and stopped in front of me, ejecting croutons on the table. After suffering through the wilted salad, I waited another 15 minutes, watching my waitress go everywhere except over to my table. Eventually, she made eye contact with me from behind the bar and I saw her turn and enter my order into the kitchen computer!!! I could stand it no longer and just got up to leave. I passed the waitress and told her I had to leave. She offered no apology, no question about my choice to leave. My husband and I had an excellent experience at Jake & Rip's and we are looking forward to returning. We were there after dark and the ambient light in the booth was beautiful. The employees were so nice and the food and drinks were delicious. I ordered a bacon cheese burger with fries, and while both were delicious, the fries were most impressive. Crinkle-cut fries at restaurants are often soggy and heavy with oil, or else almost burned, but these were light and the right amount of crispy. They were probably the best crinkle-cut fries I have ever tasted. I definitely recommend Jake & Rip's. read more

First of all, this city has a very limited selection of sit down style restaurants to choose from with Jake & Rip's being one of them. This is pretty much a middle of the road type of restaurant to me. The food isn't great but it isn't bad either. There is a no public smoking ordinance but people are always allowed to smoke in this restaurant....can be kind of irritating at times. The bar is okay....limited selection of beers but just like i said...don't expect the world from this place. Drinks are kind of weak on a regular basis also. This is not a bad place but i can't go and give it a raving endorsement either...if you're hungry in Grenada, Ms...this is one of the best places you can stop(but that isn't saying much about Grenada tho) -------- Just returned home for Christmas and went here twice....service was horrible the first time! A friend I hadn't seen in ages came into town and wanted to go here so I went a 2nd time to be compromising. And service was horrible! We were sat in the back of the restaurant....it took over 30 minutes(after we got someone's attention) before anyone even came to our table. And it took them forever to fix our food. Waitress continously came to the table around us but rarely checked on us! Don't go here unless you don't have other options(which is usually the case in Grenada sadly...which is the only reason this place is still around imo). read more

Stopped in off the highway, and we were pleasantly surprised. At 6:30 on Friday night we got a table right away, and we weren't expecting to because the parking lot was full. The staff was friendly, and the BBQ was good. We each had the pulled pork plate and a sweet tea. Not the best BBQ, but by far not the worst. Our server was the quietest human being on the planet, but she did a fine job. All in all, dinner with tip for two was $23, our cheapest meal of the day. The BBQ Platter (pictured attached) was great. $15 includes ribs with a nice pepper dry rub, chicken leg, and pulled pork with a great sauce. Stopped in looking for some local Mississippi fare and was pleasantly surprised! I ordered the catfish platter and added a quail because I'd never tried it before. The catfish was really clean and fresh, served with great tarter sauce and hush puppies. The quail also was excellent and I thought it was neat they offered it as an add on to a meal like you would add shrimp. Service was top notch. Definitely worth your time! read more

Easy access off the highway, looks small from the outside and mildly delapidated. But inside it is open, huge, and uniquely decorated with hanging plants, animal heads and lots of hanging Xmas style lights. Staff is very friendly and was pretty quick on our visit(thankyou Dawn!!). Food is good southern fare, crowder peas and fresh fried okra were on the special board this visit. Pulled pork was great, not too smoky and with just a dab of sauce served on top and extra on the table for those who want it. The sauce is Memphis style, sweet and a little thick. All the sides were good; good onion flavor and pork in the baked beans, coleslaw was fresh and refreshing, okra tasted fresh picked. Wrap it up with good iced tea and we came out with tip at just $20. A great deal for a very tasty and satisfying lunch. read more

This was the last chance we give them and my husband and I agree never to go back. They no longer carry the appetizer we wanted "Louisiana hot legs", take it off the menu if you don't carry it!! We then ordered the BBQ chips for appetizer. The chips were burnt, pork did not taste good. The only thing that tasted good was the BBQ sauce. So we barley ate the chips. We both ordered the fried white fish for each of us. They brought us the catfish instead and then the waitress came and explained that they no longer carry the white fish so she put in for the catfish instead. I didn't want the catfish and would have liked the option of choosing something else on the menu instead of my waitress deciding for me.....By that time I was hungry so we ate it anyways so we wouldn't have to wait another 30 minutes for food. If you want to eat in a run down shanty setting with plastic picnic basket things and sauce that comes in little plastic to go containers and if you want to order one thing and get another and have them tell you, "too bad for you" then this is your kind of place. I ordered the queen prime rib at a cost of $28 and expected and prime rib....duh. They brought me sirloin. When I tried to send it back, the manager told me that it was indeed a prime rib. that all of their meat comes pre cut or pre packaged or something like that and that my steak was a prime rib. I said--no, it is not. It was not marbled or having that fatty edge like a prime rib. It was a long, thin cut of meat with no fat, just a meat chunk. She said--well, too bad, I am not taking it off of your bill and I am not bringing you another one. So I was stuck with this big meat chunk. I was so disgusted that I couldn't even eat it. AND i had to pay for it too. I should have read the terrible reviews before I went there. I guess they will go out of business one day and wonder why.
