I've eaten at many Waffle Houses over the years, and this one is top notch. We refer to the staff here as "The A Team" - the district manager, the store manager, the waitresses and the cooks - they're all the best! If you're one of the poor pitiful souls who's never been to a Waffle House, here's a list of my favorites: scrambled eggs with cheese and raisin toast with apple butter; cheeseburger and hash browns; and on a cold night, you just can't beat Bert's chili and a BLT. Notice that waffles didn't even make the list? That's my son's go-to, and they are good, after all, that's why they call this place Waffle House. There's something on the menu for everyone's palate. That said, the Starkville Waffle House really impressed me today. Even though the place was packed, every booth and table full, and a few of the staff clearly new on the job, everyone was attentive and friendly. My double hashbrowns "all the way" were cooked perfectly, and my Mr. Pibb never ran dry thanks to the quick refills. It did take a little while to get someone to handle checkout as the line started backing up, but once they noticed, things moved smoothly again. Bacon, egg, cheese, on Texas toast. Hash browns topped with Bert's chili. Yum. I can feel the grease coursing through my clogged arteries as I type this! Side note: Bert's chili is only $.99 to add to Hash browns. It only adds 80 calories, but packs 8 grams of protein because of the over portion that happens every time. Nowhere else on earth can you get that much protein for $.99 that tastes good. I ordered something different at first, changed my mind. How does a place with "waffles" literally in its name run out of waffles???? I almost walked out but my other choices in that area were pretty bleak as well.
