The food was fantastic. I got the tortellini and it was hearty comfort food. The building is unique, kind of a mall setting with a fountain, lots of old brick. BUT, I am going to drop a star due to the general state of the dining area. The floors desperately need to be professionally cleaned and the fountain wasn't working. My family and I moved away from Grenada 5 years ago and there are few restaurants we miss, Carmella's being one of them. This weekend we came to visit family and I just had to stop in for a dessert to go. Their Tiramisu is the best I've ever had! It's so fluffy on the top layer and there is enough coffee liquid on the bottom layer, but it stays together very well. The flavors combined are perfect! I hate we didn't have time to stop and have lunch because their stuffed pizza is pretty good as well. I haven't found another place that will cover the pizza with a crust layer like Carmella's does. All their ingredients taste fresh aw well. The place inside is very cute. I've attended a couple baby showers there and it's really a perfect spot for this. Over the years we've gone, the service is hit or miss. Mostly it's been good, but occasionally there had been a server who seemed to be having a bad day. This is quite likely the best restaurant in Grenada! Upon entry, the dining area is bright and cheerful, with a lovely atrium with skylights and fountains. We tried this place after a long day of hunting. The food was good. The ambience needs a little work. The service was pretty good. We started with the fried cheese which was very tasty and different than most restaurants. I had the smothered chicken which was very good and rich. The garlic knots were heavy on the garlic. My husband and son had the meat trio pizza. My husband liked the pizza crust. My other son seemed to like his chicken tenders as well. The only negative I would say is the bathroom was weird because toilet stalls were up on a platform that you had two steps to get to and the hallway was very narrow to get to the bathroom, so this place is not handicapped accessible unless there was another bathroom somewhere else. First time here in 6 years or so. Early afternoon on a Monday. No other customers there except a few picking up to-go orders. Ordered a sandwich and a pizza. Took a lot longer than expected given we were the only dine-in customer. Sandwich was a muffaletta. Hot and fresh. It was really good. Pizza was piping hot but they were really stingy on the toppings leaving some 4 inches on the outside with just scant pieces of pepperoni (see pic). This was a let down and not a good look. What a hidden gem! This small restaurant has tables that wind through the aisles of a small strip mall. The friendly waitress described the stuffed eggplant mentioning it is one of her favorites. Wow! We know why. This place definitely tries to replicate an Italian feel, but it has an attached sitting area that offers a cool vibe. The service is pretty slow however. I went twice and the first time I got the shrimp corleone which was ok but the shrimp, penne, and complimentary ingredients weren't particularly tasty. However, the dish grew on me the more I ate it- 2/5. Upon my 2nd visit, I ordered the smothered chicken which was much better as the sauce was very tasty and the chicken was tender- 3/5. Flash-fried Shrooms wins the race. Golden and flakey. Unevenly battered and peppered. Two silver ramicans overflowing with ranch. Your teeth break that golen seal and those Grenada Shrooms ooze and condense--beautifully I might add. Your reward will come to soon if you order the fried shrooms at this stip-mall pizzaria with a dead-pan late 90's feel. This is an outdoor setting (complete with heavy and black cast-iron lawn furniture) but takes place inside. That iconic mall water fountain will lurch and patter in ominous cadence to the polite doldrums of dinner conversation. With friends or family, this restaurant casts an all-too-intimate feel against the pace of the fountain and the tuesday-afternoonesque feel of the food. Possibly because no one goes to malls anymore and it feels like Dawn of the Dead is approaching. Do not be fooled by the Pizza. The Pizzas are dainty and have wilted veggies that will remind you of an after-market frozen pizza at home. Good but not $12.00 or more good. Order the Spaghetti. It will not make you scream BAZINGA! It will not make you scream in ANY respect. The Spaghetti is an honest and humble plate. Almost one that makes you consider your station in life. Al Dente white noodles (unbroken) a size or two above angel-hair. A thick hearty meat sauce provides a blood-red base you would crave in any college cafeteria on Saturday morning. The three large (and delightful) meatballs will struggle to balance at the center of that white-red pyramid. Your child-like instincts will kick in as you slurp it up like you did back then. A kid back in the late 90s when Malls were dying out and you pitched your pennies in their fountains (and quarters arcade-shooters) nonetheless with reckless enjoyment. My best advice--order the shrooms. Order two batches of those. Next, GET THE HELL OUT OF THERE before the zombies descend! Poor service; looked like they had 4 servers and a young lady answering the phone for to go orders. This lady was not very happy working and not friendly to non locals. 1st, we were not sure where to seat, so asked and she rudely said "really anywhere you can find a table". That really should have been a clue but we were hungry and the reviews looked positive. Once seated saw there were more tables in a hallway that connected by different businesses for the complex. The place got really busy once we sat down which was 6pm. Server was ok, but noticed all the front staff would go to the kitchen. You could hear them talking and cutting up instead of attending to the customers. Got pizza and sandwich an hour later. Our server came up once to say food was coming out soon. No refill on our water either. The kitchen was really behind and the take out orders backed up along with the in house orders. I felt really sorry for the 2 local guys waiting 30 minutes for their to go orders. Pizza was to have pesto on it but no pesto. Pizza came out before my Mom's sandwich, which took another 15 minutes. Food was just OK. Same girl who answers the phones also checks out customers. We had no ticket yet because our server was getting chewed out by a the Dad of a large family who came in about 10 minutes after us and they have no food yet or refilled drinks. We explained to the girl that our server is getting chewed out would she be able to help us checkout. She was not happy about that with major eye rolling and very cold to us. read more

My friend and I decided to try Carmella's on a Saturday night, but we had limited time before we had to be at a meeting. I asked the young lady when we arrived if they could get us in and out in an hour. She hesitated and said, "Let me check the tickets". She came back and said, "Come on; we're going to take care of y'all". She seated us and another young lady came almost immediately to take our orders. We asked her what was the quickest item to make and she said not pizza, but anything else. We ordered wraps with curly fries and sure enough, they came out quickly and we had plenty of time to eat and get to our meeting AND they were delicious! The young server was also very nice and efficient. I would love to eat there again when I'm not in a hurry and try their pizza! I absolutely loved my meal! Me and my boyfriend stop in there every once in a blue moon. The servers are always very friendly and helpful. They always keep your drink full ! Today I decided to order, but I was afraid it wouldn't be as good if it sat for a while until I got there and picked it up. It was just as good dining in. The tortellini ala Carmella is my to go to it was delicious with the buttery garlic knots they came with. I got spinach artichoke dip for a side ,my only complaint is the bread got slightly chewy instead of crunchy but completely not their fault. The tiramisu is so light and perfect . Tried this place while traveling through town based on other reviews. It was an average meal with reasonable prices and friendly staff. The fried cheese was outstanding and the best thing I had. The accompanying marinara was tasty. Did not care for the baked ravioli because it was filled with ricotta cheese, which I don't like, and must have missed this description in the menu. We got the supreme pizza based on the server's recommendation. It was ok but not great in any way. Here's the one very odd and somewhat repelling thing about this place, which seemed to present itself as a nicer Italian restaurant - all of the plates that they served food to us on were old and filthy looking. We were just looking for a decent place to grab a bite to eat while traveling. This place had good reviews so we thought we would try it. We found it to be just as good as everyone said it was...maybe even better! Everything we ordered seemed to be homemade. The calzone dough was light and tender, the sub bread was made in house, the fried cheese was perfect and the marinara that accompanied it was very tasty. Portions were generous and the prices were reasonable. We ended up talking with one of the owners for a bit and got to hear the story of how they came to have this wonderful gem of a place. My mama and I passed through Grenada looking for something tasty but a little quick after the Egg Bowl. We actually stopped at Applebee's first and quickly left, because the service there was slow and rude (and Mama was already a little upset because the Rebels lost). What a blessing in disguise! First of all, our waitress, Krista, was fantastic! She was kind, knowledgeable, and attentive. As for the food, my family and I believe a restaurant is really good if it's worth driving more than an hour for, and this place makes the list! Overall, I had a pleasant experience. The restaurant looked to be exceptionally clean and the atmosphere was charming. The service was impeccable. And the prices were reasonable for the portions that I received. I had small issues: The Baked Ziti that I ordered was a plate of penne, with sauce poured on top, with a layer of cheese added. This was then passed under heat long enough for the cheese to melt. While this dish was neither "baked" nor "Ziti", it was pretty tasty. And the garlic bread that they sent out with it was exceptional. Quirk alert! I also do not like going to a restaurant and seeing employees smoking in front of the business. Maybe that would not bother some folks, but that is one of my pet peeves. I would be willing to make another trip to see these folks. read more

My husband and I recently arrived to this quaint town and wanted Italian food. Well let me tell you this restaurant will not disappoint! First and foremost our waitress Brittany is the most charming beautiful friendly woman that it's been our pleasure to meet. We're not just saying this to ring a bell for her, seriously she was engaging, humorous, a kind soul who is attentive to all patrons. Thank you kindly Brittany! Now the food! Oh my! We travel the United States year round with work and the food is absolutely delicious. Great presentation too. The cheese sticks (huge) are marvelous, crispy coating that is not generic, we have had the fried mushrooms (yum), the chicken wings, pizza pie, calzones, salads ( May different types, the chef & spinach w/bacon, almond slivered, cheese is fabulous, (you can get a half or whole salad)the shrimp fettuccine & lasagna is sooo amazing. This food is fresh and homemade. We always get dessert too, I love the triple chocolate cheesecake type, has additional ingredients, today one of the other waitresses ( I should have gotten her name as she was so sweet too) told me that they have a cheesecake ( regular New York style) they wrap and put pineapple inside, fry then drizzle with caramel sauce, I will definitely be trying this girls! Kudos to the chefs you are amazing! If you driving through or have not tried yet, don't deny you foodie experience, this place will not disappoint! I know when we get station somewhere else I will miss this place. By the way they take great measures to keep you safe and themselves safe, please wear your mask when you enter, you may remove once your at your table.
