Who knew you could find the best fried chicken at a gas station convenient store?!…read more Ever since I can remember, we'd stopped at Dodges to fill up the gas tank. My brother and I always joked that they had chicken wings at a gas station. "How good could they be?" We'd always laugh. But then one time we were down south with husband and he commented on the fact that they sell fried chicken wings at a gas station. After passing it up several times driving back and forth between Leland and Greenville, my husband decided we had to stop and try it. Good thing we did! Best darned spicy fried chicken wings I've had, anywhere! Crispy, flavorful and spicy! Delicious combo! Too bad they don't have these out in California!

Well, I have been wanting to try this new restaurant out for awhile. First of all, I walk in at…read moreabout 6pm and notice they have put most of their hot sides up even though they close at 8pm. So, I can't get any macaroni and cheese nor mashed potatoes and gravy. Therefore, I have to settle for coleslaw and potato wedges. Anyway, I recommend getting here a few hours before they close or you will have only a couple sides to choose from as they put up the good hot sides. I ask cook for what I want and she gives me a look as if though she wants me to leave her alone. Anyway, she wasn't very friendly to say the least. She also didn't give me a plastic fork to eat my meal with. I had to ask them for a straw too which they keep behind the counter. Plastic forks are back there too. I ask for a combo meal which includes 2 pieces of dark meat chicken, 2 sides, biscuit and a drink for about $5.50. However, cashier tried to charge me $8.00 for it. So, I had to question her and have the price corrected. The fried chicken was great but my biscuit was hard as a rock. The coleslaw was not good. I decided to take my potato wedges home to give to furry friend who will love them as I didn't like them either. However, the best part of the meal was the fried chicken which gives them a solid 3 stars. Location: It's located a few miles East of Greenwood off Highway 82 close to The McDonald's.

I have feeling the locals call in orders to pick up. One thing I didn't like was that it was dark in here. Why? They didn't have the lights on. What's up with that. Anyway, there was a little sun light shining in thru the blinds but they could at least cut on the lights when a customer like me comes in. Anyway, I was the only one inside dining in. It's really nice inside with nice looking booths and tables. There's also several paintings on the walls I assume the owner likes. I also noticed a TV inside. To go menus are available at the counter as you check out. Some of the menu items are; sandwiches, poboys, wraps, salads, and several sides. The sides available are, chips, pasta salad, potato salad, corn salad and green salad. What did I get? I got a jalapeño pimento cheese sandwich. It was good and filled me up as I am about to pop.

There were people drinking, chatting, standing, sitting, and two bartenders trying to keep it all going. I got one's attention and she let me sit in the back room, where there are some tables, couches, a TV.... all while a live band set up in the front room. That kind of atmosphere. To her credit, the bartender kept up with me and the food arrived quickly. Appetizers are expensive, entrees are cheap, but I saw a lack of portion size. Great hushpups, which I dipped in the comeback. Good "local pond-raised catfish" but would have been better with two filets like most places provide. And more dipping sauce for everything. The slaw wasn't as great as she suggested, or as plentiful. Finally, the bar: As I said, it's kind of divey. No craft or local beers on tap. But that's not unexpected. Just forewarning you. Verdict: Come for the ambiance more than the rest, but the rest isn't bad either.
